There are several excellent "Download Managers" available that work with Firefox and other browsers, for both MAC and PC.
FlashGot (MAC & Windows)
FlashGot is a free extension that turns every supported external download manager into a download manager for Firefox. FlashGot also works with Mozilla, Flock and Thunderbird browsers. FlashGot will work with Firefox's built-in Download Manager, however FlashGot recommends downloading an "External Download Manager" to use with FlashGot for best performance.

An External Download Manager can also improve the download speed; allow auto-resume on broken downloads, auto-redial on broken dial-up connections, along with many other features.
When you add a file type to a browser's Download Manager or to an External Download Manager, you will also need the MIME type for the file type you are downloading. (MIME types are descriptions of the contents of a file.) The MIME type for m4a is: audio/x-m4a
