January 21, 2004 New Moon
January 21, 2004 - February 20, 2004
Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.
From the Eye of the Eagle
Our New Moon (of Jan 21, 2004) lies in the first decan (the first third) of sidereal Capricorn under the auspices of Aquila, the Eagle. The stars of early sidereal Capricorn narrow our attention into a detailed personal focus. They are of the roles we play and the costumes we wear through which our souls express upon the human stage. They are about our personal strategies and the maneuvers we make to concretize and manifest our goals in the physical.
This zodiakal band is also about strategic locations on the Earth that best serve us in the manifestation of our purposes in world. This can include military-scientific-extraterrestrial bases, spiritual sanctuaries, sacred sites, or simply specific places unique to each of us that best serve us in the day-to-day world of human affairs.
Early sidereal Capricorn brings our attention to the physical manifestation of the ideals and wisdom embodied by sidereal Sagittarius with the sobering realizations encountered while doing so. This lunar cycle brings our focus to the practically apply the ideals we held in the last lunar cycle.

Our New Moon specifically aligns with Albireo, Beta Cygnus, beak of the swan; Sham, Alpha Sagitta, the missile of Zeus; and Altair, Alpha Aquila, eye of the eagle.
Albireo reaches down toward the ecliptic (into the incarnate world) from Sadr, the heart of the swan, which lies further north in the heavens on the galactic equator (and at the cusp of sidereal Capricorn-Aquarius). Sadr is of soul-level self and relations. Albireo refers to the physical and sexual bodies we wear--the facades of soul common to the material world--and is about sexuality-based pursuits and personality level relations. Albireo is of sexy and alluring disguises, cloaks, facades, appearances, masks, makeup, costumes, those that are unconsciously or deliberately used to get what we think is nourishing to personality-level self. Albireo is of egoic, incarnate self, unaware that personality self is but the cloak of the soul.
Here we find the duality-based experiences inherent to the facades of incarnate form. Our seductive human facades can lure us to forcefully attempt to gain personal gratification from a less than soul aware perspective. Personality-based desire can result in covert and manipulative actions not really desired or nurturing to the other party. However, this is a learning ground that asks us to graduate from victim consciousness (personality-based awareness), to realize two parties create their collective experience, to become mutually responsible for the consequent co-creation from our human interaction upon the incarnate stage of life. Here we find the mythical story of Zeus, who disguises himself as a beautiful swan and rapes the alluring Leda. In Atlantian myth, the male / female roles of seducer and seduced are reversed, with the female Cygnus being the seductress and the male Alcyone being seduced. Our incarnate experience offers the realization that life is not only about self, about one over another, that the experience of relationship (ratio) is something unique that two parties create together.
In Greek myth, Cygnus is Zeus, disguising himself as the irresistible, sexy, and attractive swan who seduces the beautiful mortal Leda, who, with lust and desire, invites him into her court. Magnificent passionate love-making results, but Leda with seed already from her mate Tyndarus, a dual birth was to follow--with one egg birthing immortal Pollux (son of Zeus) and mortal Clytemnestra (daughter of Tyndarus); and the other egg birthing mortal Castor (son of Tyndarus) and immortal Helen (daughter of Zeus). These of course are Castor and Pollux, our Gemini Twins, two of the famed Argonauts. Richard Hinckley Allen (Star Names, Their Lore and Meaning) succinctly points out that this constellation predates the Greeks awareness: "Its present figuring (a stellar bird) did not originate with the Greeks, for the history of the constellation had been entirely lost to them, as had that of the mysterious Engonasin--an evident proof that they were not the inventors of at least some of the star-groups attributed to them." Nor was it always the male seducing the female. In Sumerian lore, it was the seductive female Cygnus who allures the masculine Alcyone attempting to protect the netherworld, neither resisting each other and too become lovers. |
Altair, eye of the eagle, in northern Aquila, is of global and extraterrestrial vision. Altair is also the administrative seat for the "Earth-based Eagle Command," which can include military sites as well as Earths sacred sites. Altair inspires us to perceive from a global, even extraterrestrial perspective; and not merely from a local, isolated view, but with a focus in precision detail upon our target. Altair is of assertive authoritarian militaristic leadership. In classical astrology, Altair is of military force and power. Siderealist Andrés Takra adds: "Altair has been associated with kings, emperors, conquerors, tyrants, politicians, but also with mystics, occultists, and wise spiritual hierophants of mystery-religions..."
Amongst the folds of the feathers of Aquila and adding to the confusing sexual facades of Albireo, the autocratic theme of Altair, and the deception and the cost of life insinuated by the mythical imaging of Vulpecula (the fox) is Antinous, a youth of legendary beauty, the favorite Bithynian lover of the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Antinous articulates the theme of consenting self-sacrifice based upon blind love toward an authoritarian and the naive assumptions of oracular information. Hadrian placed the figuring of the boy amongst Aquila in the year 132 in honor of the youths willingness to drown in the Nile. Antinous self-sacrifice was based upon the oracle at Bezas information that only the death of that which the emperor most loved would avert a dangerous threat to the emperors life.
Sagitta, the Missile of Zeus, extends over the first decan of sidereal Capricorn. Sagitta embodies our strategic arsenal of tools--whether applied for war or peace--this includes our personal tools and strategies to accomplish our goals in the material world--the application of our personal power in the world.
Adding to the backdrop of our lunar theme are the stellar qualities of Alpha Indus; Anser, Alpha Vulpecula, the fox; Antinous, Eta Aquila and Algedi, Alpha Capricorn.
Algedi is of covert and secret places: caves, retreats, and sanctuaries. Algedi is also of sacred sites and military outposts. Although such places may seem to be isolated, lying helter-skelter upon the Earth, they are strategically and naturally distributed upon Earths energy grid. That which occurs at these locations is of significance in the greater evolutionary process for all souls and for the Earth herself, because the energy at these points radiates throughout the Earths energy matrix. Algedi is also of covert operations, manipulative maneuvers, and all that is secret or hidden behind the scenes.
Indus is a southern constellation added more recently in the early 1600s by German astronomer Johann Bayer, of Augsberg. Bayer articulates the qualities of this constellation as a nude (native) man holding arrows in both hands, (without a bow). In Chinese astronomy, Alpha Indus is the Persian. Indus refers to the keepers of the sacred places; such beings are most often highly involved in the entire and complex theme articulated by this part of the zodiak. They are highly astute and specialized, able to fight with a variety of means. Not only can they wage battle with weapons of war, but also with ceremonial magik and prayer. The placement of this constellation under the first decan of sidereal Capricorn, alludes to why government installations are often found on sacred (Native Indian) land. To control key Earthgrid sites, of which native peoples are often stewards, is to control Earths evolutionary outcome. Indus also articulates the capacity of persons who are attuned to the Earth and Heavens, particularly the primordial skills typically associated with the Native Indian, Aboriginal, or Desert Arab.
Another recent addition to the first decan of Capricorn is our modern Fox with the Goose, Vulpecula cum Ansere. Placed by Hevelius in the 1600s, it is described (by Allen) as "uncomfortably crowding, and jammed into the space between the Beak of the Swan and Sagitta the Arrow." It lies along the galactic equator. But Vulpecula perfectly and succinctly elucidates the meaning of this zodiakal band. Vulpecula articulates, in the very first couple of degrees of Capricorn, the deep appreciation of the exquisite beauty found in nature, but quickly turns, a few degrees later, into an "insidiously cunning and voraciously violent" characteristic.

Dubhe, Alpha Ursa Major and Merak, Beta Ursa Major, are the two brightest stars of Ursa Major. At this time in Earth's precessional cycle, line drawn from Dubhe through Merak leads directly to Earths current North Celestial Pole (near the star, Polaris, of the Little Bear, Ursa Minor). Merak and Dubhe represent the alignment of personal will and divine will in allegiance to the evolutionary fulfillment of Earths polar precessional cycle--to the fulfillment of evolutionary cycle of the soul.
The stars of the Great Bear also represent the world powers. The theme of the great Bear is torn. Part of the Bear is of the fallen world powers, those of a totalitarian, controlling oppressive rule. Dubhe and Merak are of the integrous part of the Great Bear, that which is oriented toward a greater vision, for that which is truly nourishing for humanity, for that which is focused toward our evolutionary fulfillment.
Dubhe embodies the "willingness to fight for a greater vision" beyond the accepted political-religious dogmas of the human world that keep humanity in darkness and delusion; and against the controlling global forces perpetuating that dogmatic rule.
At the personal level, Dubhe asks us to fight for the greater vision that we hold for the unfoldment of our lives--for the true nourishment, fulfillment, and freedom we seek. Dubhe asks us to emerge from our own personal dogmas (belief structures) that hold us bound in lives that are less than we truly want. Dubhe supports us to create a new and better future rather than merely react to the past we have already created and reinforce with our beliefs.
Dubhe is the star of the "Hor-she-shu," the worshipers of Horus--referring to the moving vernal point in the 26,000 year precessional cycle of the Holy Cross (See the Holy Cross WEB page). The vernal point is also called the Birthplace (of the Sun-Sol-Soul), the Christ Point, and Office of the Christ because it governs the evolutionary cycle of the soul--the re-awakening of soul (Christ) consciousness on Earth. The precessional movement of Earth's pole, the God-Head, governs the movement of the Birthplace (the vernal point) of the soul consciousness. Thus in this context, Dubhe holds the vision for when Earth's pole aligns with Dubhe and Merak--for when our reawakening begins, for the return of the Christ within.
Dubhe also conjoins Zeta Hydra, a multifarious source of destruction (every time Hercules took off one the Hydras heads, it immediately grew another), and Acubens of Cancer, the tenacious hold of religious-political dogma--hence the conjoining theme of Zeta Hydra, Acubens and Dubhe. To overcome the undermining and relentless forces maintaining the very sticky and tenacious hold of religious-political dogma (and of our personal belief patterns) requires perseverance to manifest a greater global vision for the evolutionary freedom and fulfillment of humanity.
Our Need to Change
Our Last Quarter Moon of Feb 13 lies in the clutches of the Scorpion, on the cups of sidereal Libra / Scorpio. Bringing our "inner need to initiate change" is the influence of the nuclear galaxy AP Libra; the irregular galaxy NGC 2915 of Chamaeleontis, the shapeshifter; Beta Lupus, the contortionist; and Zuben el Akrab, Gamma Libra--all (composing the potent cusp of sidereal Libra-Scorpio--coalesces forces to create any type of carnal scenarios that we require to challenge us to change.
Nuclear Galaxies of the BL Lacerta Category, of which AP Libra is one, embody powerful primordial forces. AP Libra is a part of the southern chelae (claw) of the Scorpion, reaching from the Scorpions head, via Brachium (Sigma Libra) to Zubenelgenubi--the south claw--the karmic seat for incarnating souls.
AP Libra primal forces can lure us into intense carnal scenarios. However, AP Libra experiences utimately provide the transmutational elixir which serves us in claiming our self mastery in the incarnate world, to free ourselves from our past karmic entrapments.
The noble and benevolent Centaur is teacher of the right way to live to attain mastery of self in the mortal world. Conjoining Beta Centauri asks us to do what we need to in the physical world to attain our self-mastery. Here we find catalyst to surrender our lesser life modes for new paths that lead to our greatest well being and soul mastery in the world.
