Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
Thanks to the search capacity of the modern computer and the efforts of Jill Whitman of Toronto Canada who identified the Grand Quintiles of Oct 1 and Oct 28 and brought her findings to the attention of the astrological community.
The general quality of a Quintile (a 72° aspect) (the Fifth Harmonic) drives a powerful inner motive to create metamorphic change through a unique creative expression without the need or ability to define, justify, conform, or even understand why. The motivation is to rise from the bounds of restriction, to just break free like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Our "Grand Quintile" offers an unprecedented portal for radical change in unbounded self-expression.
Our Grand Quintile, consisting of five individual quintiles, also consists of five bi-quintiles (144°) that create the inner strcuture of the Grand Quintile, thus providing motivation to manifest our creative metamorphosis.

The Fifth HarmonicFive, begotten by none, is sacred. Of itself, five is the pent, the grand quintile, unique, different from all that has been before. Five is of transmutation and transformation. Five allows freedom from being locked eternally in a cyclic square of time.… To read the rest of this material on Five and Phi (the quality of the quintile), see the "Unfoldment of Number" |
The first Grand Quintile occurs on Oct 1 centering around 13:25 GMT (6:25 AM MST), just before the Disseminating Moon of Oct 2 in the Sept 14, 2004 lunar cycle. The Stellar Theme of this Grand Quintile nests within the context of Lunar Month's theme, which I entitled "The Winds of Change."
This article is an addendum to the Sept 14 lunar month's theme, which can be found at:
http://www.lunarplanner.com/LunarMonths2004/lunarmonth.04.09.14.html
The character approaching the Disseminating Moon is one of acceleration as we prepare to bear the fruit, the revelation, and gift of growth that the lunar cycle offers.
The Moon's placement creates the activating fifth element in this Grand Quintile planetary configuration. The other members are Saturn conjoined Procyon; the Sun in mid-sidereal Virgo, conjoined Porrima and Vindemiatrix; Pluto in Ophiuchus (sidereal Scorpio), and Uranus, which is empowered in sidereal Aquarius, conjoined the very significant Fomalhaut, one of the Four Royal Architects of the Heavens. All of these create a rather dynamic portal in an already intense and dynamic lunar cycle.
In this article, we will explore the star alignments conjoining each of the planets in the Grand Quintile, in the order that they form the portal.
We first have the longer standing quintile (72° aspect) that is currently in place between Uranus and Pluto. This quintile is active over a few years, from 2001-2005, due to the slow movement and retrogrades of these two planets.
Recently, Saturn, which moves a bit faster than the other two, has come to create a bi-quintile (144° aspect) to both Uranus and Pluto. This threesome is active for the few months ending 2004. This creates a "Quintile Yod," with Uranus and Pluto pointing to Saturn. In this configuration, Saturn demands our attention--now. |

The Sun, on Oct 1, moves into quintile between Saturn and Pluto, which locates the grand portal on that specific day, creating the fourth point of the portal. |
Lastly, the moon moves into quintile between Uranus and Saturn, activating the Grand Quintile portal to the minute (13:25 GMT)--the door opens. |

The placement of Uranus reveals where we radically break from the conformity of the past. Planetary Qualities in Clear Expression: Uranus brings us the ability to change and create new frontiers in our experience and in consciousness. Uranus, the true pioneer and humanitarian, is uninhibited by convention and establishment. Uranus stimulates spontaneity and individuality and provides a future focus and orientation. Uranus is very much in its true home in sidereal Aquarius. In fact, Uranus is currently retrograde over Fomalhaut, which embodies the essence of sidereal Aquarius.
Fomalhaut, one the "Four Royal Architects," inspires future vision for an evolved humanitarian-based society. Fomalhaut inspires new ideas and pursuits in the art-sciences, in technology, and in social issues of the world. Fomalhaut promotes the flow of resources within the human populous that creates a wholesome human condition. Fomalhaut defies convention and compartmentalization, but supports individuality, progress, and freedom.
Being fully empowered here, Uranus-Fomalhaut inspires a radical break from the restrictions of the past so we may move toward this humanitarian ideal. On a personal level, Uranus-Fomalhaut supports the radical transformation to break free and live the future vision we hold for our lives.
Pluto, also quite at home, but in sidereal Scorpio, and in the constellation Ophiuchus where it has been traveling for several years now, is fully supportive of the death and destruction of that which keeps us from claiming our true self-empowerment. Pluto supports us to graduate as responsible co-creators of our reality, rather than playing blind victims to the multitude of creative and destructive forces of life. Pluto works for the integrity of the soul by bringing to surface and destroying the engrain patterns of behavior that perpetuate our entrapment.
Ophiuchus lies above and on the ecliptic, standing over the Scorpion, which swings quite south of the ecliptic under Ophiuchus. Antares, heart of the Scorpion, defines the center of the sidereal sign of Scorpio, the Serpent Point, and embodies the essence of the Scorpio constellation. Antares lies below the ecliptic as well, in the body of the Scorpion. Because Ophiuchus actually crosses the ecliptic, it is the thirteenth ecliptical constellation, but it lies in the sidereal sign of Scorpio.
Ophiuchus is knowledge holder over the raw creative forces governing life and death--one who has attained ascension from the lower-order forces that perpetuate our scenarios of (re-incarnational) entrapment. Ophiuchus is exemplar of one who has brought the interplay of these forces to a greater spiritual fulfillment.
In Greek myth, Aesculapius, the mediciner of the ship Argo, is also imaged as Ophiuchus, knowledgeable of advanced healing processes beyond the cycle of life and death. The Christian resurrected Jesus (Jeshu) also articulates the theme of Ophiuchus.
In our stellar image, Ophiuchus stands with the serpent (Serpentis) coiled around his body and held in his hands. The neck and head of the serpent reach toward the Northern Crown (Corona Borealis), which lies above the Chelae (claws) of the Scorpion. The neck (Unukalhai) and head of the snake embody the essence and wisdom of living true to soul, in one's true self-mastery--as a soul-infused being of light.
The astronomical symbol of Ophiuchus is the caduceus--the symbol of the American Medical Association, the entwined double serpent upon a staff--the double helix of the DNA.
Ophiuchus and the sidereal sign of Scorpio are associated with our education regarding the use of sexual creative forces and raw creative power. The entire image of Ophiuchus standing upon the scorpion with this magnificent snake reaching for the North Crown represents claiming our self-mastery to attain evolutionary fulfillment out of the karmic-dharmic based reincarnational process of growth. This is to become ascended in vibration, an illumined being free from perpetuated entrapment. Having claimed the wisdom the serpent has to offer, this is literally the illumination of the DNA, the urn of the soul
Pluto currently conjoins a potent Ara Black Hole (V821), which lies below the Scorpion on the Altar of the Centaur. The image here is of the Centaur placing Lupus the Beast (our lower-order personality-based patterns of self-importance, and associated emotional baggage) with conscious deliberation to be consumed in the Centaur's transmutational pyre. Venom from Lesath, the sting of the Scorpion--the often harsh but required lessons incurred while incarnate--dripping upon the altar, provides the required transmutational elixir. The Ara Black Hole V821 demands this as an all or nothing deal.
The phenomena astrophysicists call Black Holes can be thought of as very deep pools of consciousness, places we can enter if we dare, and return (or not) forever changed. Black Holes have an all or nothing nature to them and offer no in-between. To enter a black hole in consciousness requires relinquishment of lesser modes of being, of the attachments associated with our existing lives. This requires the willingness and personal integrity to go deep within our consciousness, to allow a disintegration of the constructs of self we hold, of what we think ourselves to be, and to emerge with a far deeper sense of our true selves, the truth of our souls. We then must then bring that pure intent back into our life expression. The successful feat can result in an inversion or flip in consciousness--with an 'aha' of great magnitude, one that may change our lives forever.
The quintile between Uranus and Pluto has been at work in our lives since 2001 (of course accessing different stellar themes in the process) and it will continue to be active through 2005. This dynamic duo is igniting a deep-seated fire within us all to claim our responsibility as creators of our reality and radically change how we co-participate on Earth--to find a radical creative solution or die. The destruction occurring around us and in our lives is ultimately forcing us to move toward a humanitarian vision where people unite for the betterment of all and live the future we dream of.
More recently Saturn has moved into its bi-quintile position--a separating bi-quintile from Uranus and an approaching bi-quintile to Pluto, creating the Quintile Yod. Saturn lies exactly on the cusp of sidereal Gemini / Cancer conjoining Procyon of Canis Minor which lies just south Pollux, the ambasador of the Twins (Gemini). Procyon is the Babylonian "Kakkab Paldara," which means "Star of the Crossing." It is one of the five stars creating the "Egyptian X" with Betelgeuse of Orion, Naos of the Argo, Phaet of Columba the Dove, and with the center star Sirius--the Great World Teacher. In classic astrology, Procyon portends wealth, renown, and good fortune. Conjoining Pollux of Gemini (the ambassador), Procyon supports allegiance to a greater cause, purpose, or faction. Procyon inspires us to ally with others or with a group, specifically our true soul colleagues, to achieve a greater purpose than we could achieve alone. The desert Arabs knew Sirius and Procyon as "Al Ahawat al Suhail"--the (radiant, glorious, and beautiful) sisters of Canopus: thus recognizing all three to be associated with the fulfillment of souls' greater evolutionary purpose.
Saturn is demanding we step from that which is crumbling around us (Pluto-Ophiuchus / Ara), to surrender it and claim our metamorphic power to make change, and leap through this portal into the future vision we hold (Uranus-Fomalhaut)--individually and globally. Saturn-Procyon draws those of like mind together to make the crossing providing the mutual support we all need.
On Oct 1, the Sun moves into place at mid-sidereal Virgo. The Sun is leading a dynamic and mobilizing stellium itself comprised of Mercury, Mars, Jupiter, and Ceres (all discussed in the Lunar Month's text.) The Sun conjoins several principal stellar entries in the midst of the Virgin:
Two of these are the Diadem of the Virgin (Alpha Coma Berenices) and the Antenna (of the Ark) the Spiral Galaxy NGC 4039 in Corvus the Raven, the messenger bird, which lies south of the Virgin--both of which tightly conjoin.
Diadem, the jewelled crown in her hair, more appropriately describes the essence of Coma--the beautiful Coma Berenices cluster of galaxies which lies a bit west of the primary stars Alpha and Beta. The theme of the entire Coma constellation, the halo of the Virgin, is that of our unadulterated spiritual soul essence expressing as our guidance in life. This guidance communicates through the magnetic forces of nature, through the world around us as articulated by the stars of southern Corvus the messenger bird. Alpha Coma articulates the importance of this attunement while the Antenna of Corvus articulates the ability to receive such information through the natural world.
Corvus, combined with Crateris, has also been imaged as the "Ark of the Covenant." Although the Ark can be considered a technological transceiver for extraterrestrial communication, or a measure of arc in precessional (God's) time, it also has to do with our personal attunement. Our spinal columns are vertically arrayed antenna systems, the most sensitive of all, which receives gravitational waves encoded with cosmic intelligence from the core of the Earth. These waves of guidance culminate in our cranial structures where they are then refocused to our pineal glands, neuro-endocrine transducers that translates this information into that which the pituitary, the master control center of the brain, can use. Being a clear, open and grounded vessel is required for perception of these subtle energies. Following them is yet more important.
Vindemiatrix and Porrima mark the centre of sidereal Virgo and also define the theme here. They mark the time when Winds of Change are at hand, and provide the forevision to act accordingly on the signs presenting themselves in our lives and in the natural world around us. They also mark the exalted seat of our winged messenger Mercury, significantly adding perspective and understanding to the nature of the stars at this ecliptical longitude. Mercury is the vessel by which these stars function in their highest expression, that is, through the neurology of communication and logistics, and all that Mercury characterizes.
Porrima, just two degrees north of the ecliptic expresses through the higher nature of the Mercurial mind--our higher brain centres that activate our capacity for clairvoyance and telepathy. Porrima opens our ability to have foresight to see future probabilities.
Vindemiatrix, just north of Porrima, classically the Harvester, tells us it is time, that it is in the timing. "This star is said to confer great powers of thought and an exacting, severe nature" (siderealist Andrés Takra). Both stars lie over Corvus the Raven, the messenger bird. Corvus communicates through all of nature, and asks us to read the natural world, to listen to and observe the signs expressed in daily life from the world around us.
Non of us are forsaken or deprived of guidance, nor even need intermediaries like those found in religions or those of the astrological arts. All of us are merely learning to see, feel, and listen to the guidance of the divine expressing in the everyday affairs of our lives, palpable guidance which is around us continually, moment to moment, communicating through everything, the simple things occurring in our lives--its nature's way.
The essence of this zodiakal area, comprised by all of these conjoining entities expresses through the higher mental capacities associated with the ability to for-sense future probabilities, which includes clairvoyant and telepathic awareness. This prophetic ability is with specific purpose, not only for communication, but action. This is much more than receiving simple impulses of premonition, but is about how our attentiveness "extends" or reaches from the present into the future. This implies the ability to sense future unfoldment. The purpose of such eves-dropping into the future provides advantage in how to use our will in the present. The purpose of such future-seeing is so that we can prepare and create NOW what is needed "to meet" the future events to come. The events seen are already precipitating from the realm of probabilities, which we then meet in the unfoldment of our spacetiming.
The Moon is the trigger to this event, and thus, its placement is quite significant. The Moon makes passage through the last decan (the last 10°) of sidereal Aries from the time of the Grand Quintile to the time of the Disseminating Moon (a several hour period) where it then conjoins Zaurak of Eridanus.
At the time of the Grand Quintile, the Moon resides at ~20° sidereal Aries, which happens to be the exalted location of the Sun in the sidereal zodiak.
The Moon conjoins several principal stellar entries as it activates the Grand Quinitle: Zibal, Zeta Eridanus, is a stopping point along the river of life. Here we find Tish, the whip of Cassiopeia; Almach, the snagged foot of the princess Andromeda; Menkar, the gnashing teeth of Cetus the Sea Monster; the Little Dumbbell Nebula in Perseus; Alpha Horolgium, of the pendulum clock: and LMC X-3, a potent black hole on the head of the golden fish Dorado, which lies in the very southern heavens--at the seat of the soul.
Here we have the story of Andromeda and the Royal Family creating our backdrop theme. To learn of this story see:
The intolerant queen, crusted with frustration due to finding herself unable to have that which she knows she is entitled, in-between the tormenting forces of both the manipulative gods (astronomical cycles of life) and the monstrous human world, and at loss with how to deal with either, becomes spitefully arrogant. Fortunately, when feeling trapped and we lash out against the world around us, the whip of arrogance (Tish, Gamma Cassiopeia) often snaps back to scar our own hand, especially when applied with vengeance. Lowering ourselves to this level or resourcefulness, using a tool found only in the dramatics of the monstrous world, will lead us only to our own demise. Here we have a statement of something we must surrender to make passage through this portal--righteous arrogance.
Almach is Andromeda’s beautiful but snagged foot about to be bitten off by conjoining Menkar, the jaws of trashing Cetus, the fear-instilling technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness.
Tic-tock, the pendulum clock, Alpha Horologium holds the characteristic of "impending time." Here there is a relentless and underlying sense that there is a finite period with time ticking away, and that more than is humanly possible must be done with need to go back before going forward. Seemingly, a miracle is required, and often time at the last minute, one arrives--usually provided by another party. But here, we must be willing to release the pressure we are applying in attempt to free ourselves, as it really creates the tension that keeps us entrapped. Only then can we make our passage.
The Little Dumbbell Nebula paints this scenario nicely. Using brut force is a stupid move that only tightens the chain of human bondage. Patience and gentleness are required to make this passage.
The Large Magellanic Cloud
Far below the entire scene of the Royal Family, deep in southern sky, lies Dorado, the gold fish--embodiment of the illumined soul. Dorado "refers not to our little exotic cyprinoid, but to the large coryphaena of the tropical seas, of changing colors at death" (Allen). The head of the goldfish marks the southern pole of the ecliptic--the foundational seat of the soul--the pot of gold protected by the dragon (which encircles the north ecliptic pole). This is why the royal family is adorned in gold and gems / riches--representing the illumination and wealth of the soul--not the illusory wealth of the mortal world. Hence, the confusion about our true riches--why we fight over the mineral gold, or even try to ingests it, rather than delve deep within for the golden soul. Upon Dorado's head lies the LMC X-3 black hole in the " Large Magellanic Cloud."
The Small and Large Magellanic Clouds (SMC and LMC) are small galaxies that orbit our Milky Way galaxy. We might think of them as our galaxy's young, although not necessarily birthed from the Milky Way. It is more like they are being cared for and reared by.
The LMC X-3 black hole provides the opportunity to relinquish our arrogant attitudes about our rightful places in world (or heaven), and that keep us entrapped. It asks us to realize the freedom we seek is found only through the initiations of the maturing soul, not in the blessings or curses we think we receive at personality level.
In Black Hole fashion, our Grand Quintile portal offers an opportunity for profound change, but there is no halfway step, no in-between. Either we make the transformation required within ourselves, relinquish the past, and make passage into a new realm of creative expression--or simply pass. Like always, the choice is ours.
