Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
Please remember that the purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your unique new lunar month theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life.
New Moon Phase Characteristics
Our Feb 27/28, 2006 New Moon lies in the exact center of sidereal Aquarius--the "angel point" of the zodiak. In this lunar cycle, we will experience the Mercury retrograde period, thus completing the previous Mercury synodic cycle and starting the its next; Jupiter will begin its retrograde; and we will enter the next eclipse pair--with a Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on Mar 14. A Total Solar eclipse will occur on the following New Moon of March 29.
This New Moon conjoins the Urn of Aquarius, from where the nourishing humanitarian waters flow. Here lie the stars that create the means for the humanitarian waterman--Aquarius--to nourish humanity. The principal stars are Skat, star of the foundation, and On the Urn, Zeta Aquarius. Both are of humanitarian philanthropic foundations, organizations, and business vessels through which material and financial support can flow for future-oriented humanitarian focused projects and for the general nourishment of all.
Our New Moon also conjoins Uranus emphasizing the Uranian qualities of unexpected spontaneous radical change in this month's lunar theme. Uranus is about breaking from the conformity of the past. Expect the unexpected.
Uranus inspires new frontiers in experience and consciousness, the true pioneer and humanitarian. Uranus asks us to break from tradition--uninhibited by convention and establishment. Uranus (Qabalistic Shin) is the embodiment and expression of unified and unique soul-level self in radical confidence. Uranus produces uninhibited spontaneity and individuality. Uranus provides a future focus and orientation; and embodies quickness and alertness of consciousness with a lightning like mind. Uranus provides an ability to work with higher orders and principles, providing a higher-mind prowess for telepathy and all super-consciousness functions and mechanisms. Uranus brings appreciation of excellence and perfection; is applier of the higher sciences; and is super-consciousness in creative expression.
The Sun makes its exact conjunction with Uranus on March 1, which marks the halfway point of "enthusiasm and realization" in the 370-day Uranus synodic cycle that began on Sept 1, 2005. The Uranian synodic theme was set by same stars as this New Moon aligns with, thus making this lunar month's them the same as the current Uranus synodic theme. The Uranus synodic theme was presented in part in the snippet: "The Pouring Waters of the Waterman."
Now, at the halfway point in the Uranian cycle, and throughout this lunar cycle we realize the gift this Uranus cycle brings into our lives--the essence of the radical changes we are in the process of making.
I have created a planetary synodic timeline as a reference for astrologers interested in or working with synodic cycles. As encouragement to astrologers starting to work with synodic cycles, I pass on this comment emailed to me from a seasoned astrologer from the Netherlands working with synodic cycles:
"I've been visiting your site for quite a while. I'm very impressed. I must say that my interests at first were focussed on the new moon themes, but I'm noticing a change towards the synodic cycles. Although I've been studying astrology for nearly two decades now, I've never worked with them (retrogrades and direct motion, yes). You've really hit the spot there. The synodes form a guiding line for those wanting to work for the greater good. All the best and I wish you sustained inspiration for your great work. It guides more people than you perhaps know. Best regards, ..."
On March 2, just before the Crescent Moon, Mercury begins its retrograde as we disengage from Mercury's previous 116-day synodic cycle--its theme presented in the Nov 2, 2005 Lunar Planner. Mercury starts its retrograde just across the cusp in sidereal Pisces, it will conjoin the Sun in sidereal Aquarius later in this lunar cycle when it begins its new synodic cycle.
Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the theme now unfolding (a fitting time for the start of Mercury retrograde). The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.
Our Crescent Moon of Mar 2 resides in the first few degrees of sidereal Aries conjoining the CAS-A black hole in Cassiopeia and the beautiful Andromeda Galaxy inspiring us to focus upon the opportunity for our attainment rather than upon the limits we face or what we may lose.

Jupiter begins it retrograde on Mar 4 in sidereal Libra. Although in Libra, Jupiter resides just in the karmic-dharmic clutches of the Scorpion--perhaps creating a bit of indecision about staying stuck in the past or breaking free into our future. However, the next few weeks marks a time to get un-entangled from our previous entrapments and get clear on the way to mobilize our creative power.
This retrograde point begins the completion period to Jupiter's previous synodic cycle, which began on Apr 3, 2005. Its theme, set by Corvus the Raven, the messenger bird, was discussed in the Mar 10, 2005 Lunar Planner. Jupiter will begin its new 399-day synodic cycle on May 4 in sidereal Libra.
First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on Mar 6 in late sidereal Taurus conjoining Rigel of Orion and Kursa of Eridanus. Rigel is of enterprising entrepreneurialship. Orions in general are known for their architectural capacity. Prominent alignments with Rigel (and conjoining Bellatrix) bring the capacity to embody, direct and execute large, extravagant and grandiose projects; bringing good through commerce and business affairs. Kursa, conjoining Rigel, is of new beginnings, new journeys, new involvements, and new legs of our lives--thus the nature of our challenge to action.
Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction. Our Gibbous Moon occurs on Mar 10 in sidereal Cancer conjoining retrograde Saturn inspiring concretization and solidification of our new paths of action. Saturn recently began its new synodic cycle on January 27, but will not return direct until April 5 fully commencing its new synodic theme--emergence--presented in the Dec 31, 2005 Lunar Planner.
Mercury begins its new 116-day synodic cycle on March 11/12 as retrograde Mercury and the Sun conjoin in sidereal Aquarius. Mercury's new theme is set by the stars in late sidereal Leo as seen looking from the Sun toward Mercury and Earth. Here we find the hind of the Lion, specifically Denebola, the tail of the Lion. Also conjoining is Delta Velorum of the sail of Argo Navis and Alpha Antilia, the air pump generating the winds.
The essence here is that of discernment--to see and sort through that which is merely diversionary hot-air antics of those spouting to have answers from those who really do have a transcendent wisdom that leads to solution. Here we find breezes blowing that either fuel diversionary fires and create obscuring smoke screens or breezes that truly carry us to the rewards we seek. Being clear within and creating order in our personal lives precedes the ability to discern the way.
Full Moon Phase Characteristics
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
Our Full Moon eclipse occurs on March 14 in the last degree of sidereal Leo, near the location of Mercury's synodic theme. Here we have Avior on the keel of the Argo and Alkes of Crateris, the cup of salvation. Our lunar eclipse provides opportunity to let go of emotional attachments that keep us diverted thus allowing us to resynchronize with the wisdom that leads to our greater fulfillment.
The Penumbral Lunar Eclipse of Mar 14 will be fully visible in all of
Europe and Africa (visible at moon rise in North and South America.

Disseminating Moon Phase Characteristics
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit in the cycle.
Our Disseminating Moon of Mar 18/9 resides at the feet of the Virgin (which extends into sidereal Libra) just before conjoining Jupiter. It conjoins a star cluster in the Southern Cross called the Jewel Box. The Southern Cross embodies the principle of holding pure intent, our unadulterated cardinality, hence inspiring us to be clear of our intent and purpose in equipoise.
Spring Equinox occurs on March 20, 18:26 GMT (11:25 AM MST)
Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics
The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycles last quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon of Mar 22 occurs at 7° sidereal Sag, the location of the "Solar Apex," a point in the northern heavens at the outstretched hand of Hercules, who holds this portal open, and near the star Vega of Lyra. Our sun speeds through space at approximately 8,200 miles per minute along its own unique path in our galaxy. The direction toward which our sun travels is called the Solar Apex.
The Solar Apex embodies the unique and majestic path of the soul. Alignments with the Solar Apex ask us to honor that we each have a path that is totally unique to ourselves, a path which is beyond what others can see or even relate to. This is why we must not judge the experience or choices of others and must accept our own as right for us no matter what it may look like to others.
Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics
Our Balsamic Moon occurs on Mar 25/26. The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn from looking back over the past cycle and look toward the future cycle to come.
Just before the Balsamic Moon on March 25, Mercury completes its retrograde thus fully commencing its new 116-day synodic cycle (discussed above).
Our seeding Balsamic Moon lies in late sidereal Capricorn conjoining Neptune and Venus in the overlap area of Aquarius and Capricorn and under the auspices of Delphinus, the Dolphin Star System, our oracular angelic guides.
To trust in the serendipity of life is merely to surrender our personal righteous reasoning mind that needs to define and control, and to allow our selves to move with the Divine Intelligence that permeates and fluidly guides our lives. Here is the art of getting out of our own way to allow a creative solution that leads us from the conforming bounds of limited mind. Venus and Neptune will dissolve our fear into universality if we are willing to trust in the visions alive in our hearts. Idyllic love abounds.
Our next New Moon is a Total Solar Eclipse occurring on Mar 29 in the midst of sidereal Pisces. More to come then.
