The Lunar Theme for the

Diversions & Distractions

The Lunar Month of
Sept 11, 2007 - Oct 10, 2007

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

Please remember that the purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your unique new lunar month theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

New Moon Phase Characteristics

The Butterfly Star Cluster (M6)

M66 is a distorted spiral galaxy nesting in the hind of the Lion, estimated to be 35 million light years away. Its distortion is fitting to the stellar theme of this part of the zodiak.

The New Moon

This New Moon of Sept 11, 2007 snuggles in the hind loins of the Lion in late sidereal Leo. The New Moon also conjoins Asterion of Canes Venatici, the barking dogs, which lie north of the ecliptic. Also influencing is fiery Mizar on the tail of the Great Bear; and Denebola, marking the tip of the Lion,s tail. South is Antilia, the hot air pump feeding the fire, dust and smoke show; and Delta Velorum on the sail of the Argo, where we may find more subtle currents that may lead us through the tumultuous winds arising in this lunar cycle.

Expressive fiery energy, diversionary foul winds, smoke screens, and dramatic commotion are a few phrases describing this few-degree band of the zodiak. This lunar cycle requires piercing intent and keen discernment to move through the diversionary dramatics common to this very active but swirling energetic of cosmic stirrings.

The Solar Eclipse

A Partial Solar Eclipse occurs on the Lunar South Node that will be visible only in the southern parts of South America, Antarctica, and the South Atlantic Ocean.

http://www.mreclipse.com/Special/SEnext.html

This south node solar eclipse provides opportunity to disengage from past scenarios or patterns of the past that have kept us from the changes we seek. It provides opportunity to redefine our roles in life and how we present ourselves in the dramatic commotion late Leo provides. It also provides opportunity to get clear of any distractions we may encounter in our lives that keep us from stepping forth into our true hearts' desire, which now becomes possible since Venus has completed its retrograde a few days ago.

The issue here is not about the potentially entrapping stirrings around us but about our inner clarity and sense of self that is required to navigate though such swirling diversions and to manifest the changes we know are right in our hearts.

Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics

Expanding on the Theme - Relationships

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The moon conjoins Juno and Miaplacidus of Argo Navis in early Libra on Sept 14 just before the Crescent Moon. This stimulates issues in relationships, particularly issues surrounding mutual compatibility and the places and spaces in which we partner. Miaplacidus is of navigation and migration or pilgrimage to appropriate places and creating spaces of harmony for a new birth in life.

Juno

Juno's placement in the astrological chart plays a key role in revealing the nature and dynamic of our significant relationships. Juno also reveals issues we may have regarding our self worth--how we feel about ourselves. Thus, those inner emotional resonances derive the types of partners we draw, reflective of our inner self-worth issues. More on Juno.

The Crescent Moon of Sept 15, just a couple degrees past Juno, conjoins the Centaurs-A black hole, a spectacular portal so uniquely oriented, it seems oblivious and undaunted by its surrounding cosmology. Centaurs-A is the Temple of the Centaur, nesting within a very unusual galaxy (NGC 5128) not fitting into any galactic class, thus, unique as the Temple of the Centaur is, it is unclassified, also the closest active galaxy to Earth.

Centaurs-A inspires need for a contemplative meditative harmonious sacred space or environment for prayer or meditation to access our inner soul truth, our unique purpose and intent.

In this case, the Juno-Crescent Moon may bring deep inspiration regarding our relationships. We may find opportunity to relinquish inner self-worth Juno-related issues, so we may creatively expand the nature of our relations. It may also inspire clandestine meetings, whether for business or romance, or the need to redefine relations altogether, or to establish new relations more fitting to our newfound heart truths (truths explored during the Venus retrograde period, which occurred over the last several weeks).

The phenomena astrophysicists call black holes can be thought of as very deep pools of consciousness, places we can enter if we dare, and return (or not) forever changed. Black Holes have an all or nothing nature to them and offer no in-between. To enter a black hole in consciousness requires relinquishment of lesser modes of being, of the attachments associated with our existing lives. This requires the willingness and personal integrity to go deep within our consciousness, to allow a disintegration of the constructs of self we hold, of what we think ourselves to be, and to emerge with a far deeper sense of our true selves, the truth of our souls. We then must then bring that pure intent back into our life expression. The successful feat can result in an inversion or flip in consciousness--with an 'aha' of great magnitude, one that may change our lives forever.

The Sun moves from sidereal Leo into sidereal Virgo on Sept 18.

First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter.

The First Quarter Moon of Sep 19 exactly conjoins Pluto (now direct) in the first couple of degrees of sidereal Sagittarius. Pluto began its recent 367-day synodic cycle in June of 2007 under the auspices of Galactic Center and Etamin, eye of the Dragon. The theme of the current Earth-Pluto cycle was presented in the June 14, 2007 lunar planner: Tenacity of the Heart.

Juno

Although the new Earth-Pluto cycle began in June, during Pluto's retrograde, this new Pluto theme engages fully now since Pluto has recently returned direct just several days ago.

This Pluto-First Quarter Moon brings a potent external stimulus regarding our current Pluto synodic theme. The stimulus to action may invite us to step through a wide open door for those who have done the inner work and are willing to leave behind the initiations and limitations of the past--doors seemingly sanctioned to open by higher forces.

Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics

Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

Our Gibbous Moon occurs on September 23 in sidereal Capricorn nesting between Chiron and Neptune (both retrograde) and conjoins Cygnus X-1, an eclipsing X-ray binary-star system; and Al Nair, Alpha Gruis; It also lies under the auspices of Delphinus, the Dolphin star system. The equinox occurs within two hours preceding the Gibbous Moon--marking the "time for change" in the annual solar cycle.

This location marks a significant shift in sidereal Capricorn. Cygnus X-1 lies in the northern heavens on the galactic equator, almost equidistant between Albireo and Sadr, in the neck of the Swan. Cyg X-1's placement on the galactic equator provides opportunity to participate and express from the intelligent maturity and truth of a self-realized conscious being rather than as self-consumed sleeping people lost in collective mind.

Gruis the crane enters the ecliptic from the south as an underling and eloquently supportive influence to the last decan of sidereal Capricorn--where our Gibbous Moon resides. The stellar influence of Gruis brings brilliance in grammatical arts, is a contributor to the excellence in law and associated disciplines requiring articulation of the written word.

The last decan of Capricorn is of libraries, courts, publishing houses, literary agencies, or where any legalities are formulated, agreed upon and concretized. Here lies the constructive character of Saturn, which is at home in Capricorn.

Gruis as the stork, is carrier of bodies of knowledge, information, and news associated with new life and new beginnings. The southern Toucan’s loquacious and gregarious qualities also underlie Gruis contributing to the expressive and articulate nature of this area of the zodiak.

Another mythical image of Gruis is that of Aaron the high-priest scientist with Al Nair, Alpha Gruis, being the head or wisdom of Aaron, the embodiment of knowledge.

Al Nair also conjoins Alpha and Beta Delphinus, Sualocin and Rotanev, of the northern Dolphin star system. The Dolphins are angelic guides who safely make passage for the wayward. Alignments with Sualocin can indicate the need to allow one’s self to be led and / or expressing the guiding nature for others.

Full Moon Phase Characteristics

Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

The Full Moon occurs on September 26 in sidereal Pisces and conjoins Diphda, the thrashing tail of Cetus, the technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, the Kraken in the story of Andromeda and the Royal Family. Diphda creates a strong emotional turbulence, bringing the potential to get knocked down and thrashed around due to the inability to lift one's self (fly upon Algenib, the wing of Pegasus) above the dramatics of the intense psycho-emotional forces of the human world. The stars of Cetus comprises a principal part of the theme of sidereal Pisces.

In the context of our lunar cycle theme, our Full Moon brings realization regarding the diversionary nature of the dramatic commotion occurring around us and about our need to have the emotional clarity to move through the tumultuous waters of life, and the entrapments in which we find ourselves, and step forth into our greater freedom and fulfillment.

Disseminating Moon Phase Characteristics

Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit in the cycle, of claiming its gift.

The Disseminating Moon occurs on September 29-30 in sidereal Aries and conjoins Sedna, one of our newly discovered heavenly bodies. The Moon and Sedna conjoin Rana of Eridanus and Botein of Aries.

Rana of Eridanus, another stopping point along the river of life, articulates the theme of those lost or tired through their initiations stopping in need of aid. Conjoining Botein, although meaning the belly (of the Ram) actually marks the hind, the anatomy articulating the theme of those either lost and stranded, or simply left behind (the lost or following sheep).

Although we may feel lost or left behind at times, we must forge ahead knowing there is a way for each of us. Sedna may add an element regarding withdrawal or self-exile of the feminine principle, or the refusal of the feminine to commit to any participation what-so-ever due to a deep fear about the awry or deceptive use of masculine power in the past. However, Sedna has re-emerged into our conscious awareness and thus may bring up our need to honor and have trust in the feminine, and to support its re-emergence to its rightful place. Without it we have no hope of finding our way.

Astrologers are just starting to get a feel for Sedna's astrological role, so the thoughts above are rather speculative at this point. So let us see if we can gain more insight on Sedna on this Disseminating Moon. More on Sedna.

Also near by and amalgamating with our Sedna Disseminating Moon theme is Ceres, which just began its retrograde. Ceres may raise issues regarding the environments in which we live, the land, and what is truly nourishing in our lives. The lack of warmth and caring of the feminine principle as a nurturing facet of our lives is certainly visible in the clod-hearted business, political, and monetary systems common to our modern metallic-like modality of living. Sedna and Ceres have an interesting resonance in this light.

Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter.

The Moon conjoins Mars on the day before the lunar phase shift, and contributes to our arising inner need, here bringing attention to how we are using our creative power as well as our need to choose to use our creative power differently in order to change.

Our Last Quarter Moon of Oct 2-3 resides in mid-sidereal Gemini conjoining Alhena. Alhena along with Alzirr marks the foot of Pollux the ambassador. Alhena is the brand, or mark. Alhena represents "commencement" and inspires us to act on our greater truth and purpose. Alhena is a marking stone for the unfoldment of what lies ahead. It can indicate a separating of the ways is at hand. Alhena indicates a milestone or a turning point has been reached and reveals the need to get off of the fence of indecision, to drop any hesitation, as the "time is at hand" to go forth anew. As the brand, Alhena also indicate that the time, events, or relations are marked or destined. Alhena may indicate the need to sign a document or legalize a project, involvement, or commitment. It is the consecration of our commitment that anchors the etheric vision of our soul truth into the physical plane to become realized truth. This concretization prepares for a greater event yet to come. Alhena can also manifest simply as a unique sign or mark, indicating an opportunity is at hand.

Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics

Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

Venus

The Balsamic Moon of Oct 6-7 occurs in early sidereal Leo under the head of the Lion and conjoins Venus and Orcus bringing our attention back to the heart and living true to our soul oaths.

The Venus retrograde occurring throughout the last lunar cycle provided a time of redefining heart; i.e., a time of exploring a new level of our inner heart's truth. Venus recently returned direct, and now, in this lunar cycle, under the auspices of the head of the Lion, Venus re-conjoins Orcus and then Saturn in the next lunar cycle. Thus, we can begin to concretize our realizations regarding our "matters of heart and soul." More on the Venus-Orcus-Saturn topic and the new Venus synodic cycle now engaging can be found at: The New 32-year Saturn-Orcus Synodic Cycle and in the previous Lunar Planner.

The next lunar cycle begins on the New Moon of Oct 10 in sidereal Virgo--more to come then.
