The Lunar Theme for the
March 7, 2008 New Moon

A Radical Fresh Start

The Lunar Month of
Mar 7, 2008 - April 5, 2008

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

Please remember that the purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

New Moon Phase Characteristics

The New Moon

Our New Moon of March 7, 2008 occurs in sidereal Aquarius, the water-bearer. It lies just past the longitudes of Achernar of Eridanus and Ankaa of the Phoenix, indicating the completion of a long journey has recently occurred. The New Moon stars are Homam of Pegasus; Beta Horologium of the Pendulum Clock; and the mouth of the Piscian Fish, which is marked by Beta Pisces. (The head of the west fish reaches back from Pisces into the latter part of sidereal Aquarius.)

Or principal New Moon star is Homam, Zeta Pegasus, a fortuitous star. Classically, Homam is "lucky star of the hero," also "lucky star of the high-minded man." Homam embodies the essence of the Pegasus theme in completion. Homam inspires the inner drive to find a solution to our physical needs. It is of achievement and success.

Homam conjoins Beta Horologium, of the pendulum clock, and adds an additional element to the Homam theme. After what may have been a long but prerequisite journey, we are now able or in a position to return to reclaim what is rightfully ours or to achieve our original goal, which could not have been possible without having to go through the last many month prerequisite journey. We can now participate in a new way, and make a fresh start. This is also fitting to begin the first lunar cycle after our previous Eclipse Lunar Cycle.

Uranus

Uranus

Our New Moon also conjoins Uranus, which is in its home domicile, sidereal Aquarius, and which adds a key component to this lunar cycle's theme.

Uranus inspires new frontiers in experience and consciousness, and is the true pioneer and humanitarian. Uranus supports us to break from tradition--from the conformation of our past life scenarios. Uranus honors and expresses uniqueness in radical self-confidence. Uranus produces uninhibited spontaneity and individuality and brings the unexpected. Uranus provides a future focus and orientation; and embodies quickness and alertness of consciousness with a lightning like mind. Uranus provides an ability to work with higher orders and principles, providing a higher-mind prowess for telepathy and all super-consciousness functions and mechanisms. Uranus brings appreciation of excellence and perfection; is super-consciousness in creative expression; is applier of the higher sciences in technology; is electrical and of light impulses. Uranus is of global mind and global communication.

Also see the Planetary Correspondences Chart for more on Uranus and Uranus issues.

This lunar cycle is of the unexpected and spontaneous; even offering us a radical or shocking change that serves to break us from the conformity of the past and to engage us in a new way. After what may have seemed a diversionary journey, we can now return to a truer path--a fresh start as we continue to sculpt our lives. We can now move onward from an entirely new and changed perspective due to our experience over the last several months (the last eclipse cycle)--and with a more open, palpable and embracing mode of participation.

The Sun and Uranus conjoin on Mar 8, a day after the New Moon. This is when the Earth, Sun and Uranus align. This event marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Uranus 370-day synodic cycle that started on Sept 9, 2007.

See Synodic Cycles and Planetary Retrogrades to learn the basics about synodic cycles and their role in astrology.

The theme of this synodic cycle is one and the same as this lunar cycle. Because of the New Moon-Uranus alignment, this lunar cycle embodies this point of Uranian Realization--providing the ah-ha about the current role of Uranus in our lives--especially regarding our need for radical change. We are all being asked to graduate into a new octave of harmonic resonance, to change along with the accelerating evolutionary transition occurring on Earth. This entire Earth-Uranus synodic cycle and its culmination occurring now is highlighted and accentuated by this lunar cycle which supports a graduation in consciousness, if not stimulating a higher neurological function which in turn demands we break away from our past modalities of being and change.

Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations

For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, the day before, during, and immediately after this New Moon (Mar 7-8) is an ideal time to work with the Uranus audio meditation.

Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics

Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

Mercury and Neptune conjoin in late sidereal Capricorn, near the cusp of sidereal Aquarius conjoining fortuitous Sadalsuud of Aquarius on March 9 just before the Crescent Moon catalyzing inspirational communication, especially about our dreams and visions. Due to it preceding the Crescent Moon, it may also serve to help dissolve limiting mental constructs about manifesting those dreams and visions.

M33 Spiral Galaxy in Triangulum

Our Crescent Moon of Mar 10-11 occurs in sidereal Aries and conjoins Caph of Cassiopeia and Alphirk of Cepheus. Although there are stars in Cassiopeia and Cepheus, constellations that can embody the human aspects of arrogance and denial (as presented in the story of the Royal Family), there are also stars in these constellations that are of a refined and beneficent quality. These are Caph, the palm of Queen Cassiopeia’s hand, and Alphirk, the truly wise essence of the King. Also conjoining is Triangulum--the golden key.

Caph, the palm of Queen Cassiopeia’s hand, expresses a gentle and tender ability to be a true guiding and stabilizing force. Caph provides an in-between or holding place, and indicates the need for arbitration, meeting, and compromise in the midst of our conflicts and struggles in life. Caph offers a truce, even honoring what appear to be irreconcilable differences. Caph provides a calming force, bringing the composure, level-headedness, and emotional balance that are required to come to this place in-between. Caph is sometimes indicative of a female in an authoritative position offering aid.

Alphirk, Beta Cepheus, brings empathetic support, a door easily opened in the physical, but only manifesting after a long and arduous journey through the initiatory fires of life. Alphirk is a demonstrable force working though the world that actually lifts us from the struggles of life, or alters conditions in a way that otherwise would be impossible through our own power alone. Alphirk is sometimes indicative of a male in an authoritative position offering aid.

Triangulum, also called the Holy Trinity, a golden triangular channel embodies the essence of seeing unity beyond duality of opposing forces. Perseus, while flying upon Pegasus over Cetus, the technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, holds his sight upon guiding Triangulum so as to not be pulled into the dramatics of the fear-based drama of human world. Triangulum is the gate of ascension through the initiation of the fire of sidereal Aries. Beta Triangulum's message is "Let Thine Eye be Single," and asks us to see that the primary issue to overcome is our judgment of right and wrong, of white and black, of this side verses that side. As long as we carry judgment we can be lured into the dramatics of the affairs at hand. Only by surrendering our judgment can we see solution beyond the apparently impossible and act beyond the entrapment of the fear instilling, opposing, and tormenting forces comprising collective human consciousness--ole' Cetus.

First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter.

Our First Quarter Moon occurs on Mar 14 in the last degree of sidereal Taurus--in the Horns of the Bull and over the Belt of Orion. Also conjoining is Super Nova Remnant of July 4, 1054 AD, and the bright Crab Nebula and Pulsar of Taurus.

The Horns of Bull (Al Hecka and El Nath) can express in two ways, one is perpetually fighting antiquated crusades, in essence beating our heads against the wall. The other is to have the tenacious perseverance to achieve a breakthrough. The issue arising here is to know the difference.

The Super Nova and Pulsar inspires an expansion of consciousness and an intense drive to move from fighting faction out of habitual pattern to bringing factions or opposing forces together for a greater allegiance and purpose (the shift created as we move across the Taurus-Gemini cusp). Our First Quarter stimulus to action challenges us to take the action that creates this breakthrough in our lives.

Sun Pisces

The Sun moves into wet and sensuous sidereal Pisces on March 15.

Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics

Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

Our Gibbous Moon of Mar 17 resides in sidereal Cancer. It conjoins Alpha Lyncis; Acubens of Cancer, Epsilon and Zeta of the Hydra, which lie immediately south of Acubens; and northern Dubhe of Ursa Major.

Acubens, Alpha Cancer, indicates entrapment in dogma. This can be the current political / religious beliefs of the times, as well as that created by our personal belief structures--the ideas we have about our lives and experiences we have in our lives. Acubens indicates a tenacious hold and stubborn resistance to release the patterns we hold that keep us entrapped in our limiting life scenarios.

The conjunction of Acubens and Zeta Hydra reveals that the repetitive undermining experiences in our lives are manifest from our own tenacious belief structures. Associated Quasar 3C206 of Hydra, one of the brightest & closest quasars, suggests that although our dogmatic beliefs can take rather strange and unexplainable forms, they are not outside the realm of our own creation. They are however laser-like in their power. Quasar 3C206 reminds us to not be naïve to the powerful momentum of our beliefs and the undermining behavioral patterns they can create. This quasar tells us to not turn our backs on that momentum, to know it may take more than one attempt to overcome our dogma's hideous tenacity.

The outstretched Lynx lies just north of sidereal Cancer. The Lynx, or mountain cat, is known for its extraordinarily effortless ability to quietly move through the physical world, it is of intuition and of secrets shared or revealed. Symbolic of the ability to see the hidden mystery and secrets of life, our stellar Lynx represents the ability to see the spirit moving or expressing through matter. To have this perceptive and sensitive ability is to see where doorways become accessible in what otherwise may seem to be just a repetitive and mundane world.

Dubhe of the great Bear provides an overseeing and significant energetic. Dubhe, Alpha Ursa Major and Merak, Beta Ursa Major, are the two brightest stars of Ursa Major. At this time in Earth's precessional cycle, a line drawn from Dubhe through Merak leads directly to Earth's current North Celestial Pole (near the star, Polaris, of the Little Bear, Ursa Minor). Merak and Dubhe represent the alignment of personal will and divine will in allegiance to the evolutionary fulfillment of Earth's polar precessional cycle--to the fulfillment of evolutionary cycle of the soul.

The stars of the Great Bear also represent the world powers. The theme of the great Bear is torn. Part of the Bear is of the fallen world powers, those of a totalitarian, controlling oppressive rule. Dubhe and Merak are of the integrous part of the Great Bear, that which is oriented toward a greater vision, for that which is truly nourishing for humanity, for that which is focused toward our evolutionary fulfillment.

Dubhe embodies the pursuit for a greater vision beyond the accepted political-religious dogmas of the human world that keep humanity in darkness and delusion; and against the controlling global forces perpetuating that dogmatic rule. At a personal level, Dubhe asks us to do all we can to achieve the greater vision that we hold for the unfoldment of our lives--for the true nourishment, fulfillment, and freedom we seek. Dubhe asks us to emerge from the collective and our own personal dogmas (our belief structures) and our limiting life patterns that keep us bound in life scenarios that are less than those we truly want. Dubhe supports us to strive for a new and better future rather than merely staying reactive to the limitations we have already created and reinforce with our existing beliefs.

The Equinox

Occurring on March 19-20 is the first equinox of this Solar Year. It is much like the First Quarter Moon in a lunar cycle, marking the time of stimulus to action in the solar cycle. On this Equinox, the Sun aligns resides at 5° sidereal Pisces, on the precessional vernal axis and it creates a significant activation of Earth's Precessional Cycle of the Holy Cross.

Full Moon Phase Characteristics

Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

Our Full Moon occurs on March 21 in early sidereal Virgo and conjoins a very significant point in the ecliptic: Our Super Galactic Center.

M100 Spiral Galaxy in the Virgo Cluster

Our Galaxy, the Milky Way, is a whirling disc composed of hundreds of billions of stars, of which our sun is one, spinning around a dense and massive bulge of stars and a black hole called the Galactic Nucleus or Galactic Centre. Our galaxy is one of about 30 galaxies comprising a cluster of galaxies called our "Local Group." The galaxies in our Local Group gently revolve around each other much like organisms floating in a protective embryonic fluid.

Our Local Group is merely one galactic cluster of many that comprise yet a large group called our "Local Super Cluster." All of these embryonic clusters, harboring many evolving galaxies and forms of life, are like protective cocoons floating within the care of our Local Super Cluster.

The Virgo Cluster, one of the larger members of the Super Cluster, a highly non-uniform galaxy cluster, and the closest to us, is comprised of many hundreds of galaxies, ranging from giant and massive elliptical galaxies and spirals like our Milky Way, to dwarf galaxies, hundreds of times smaller. "Sub-clusters of galaxies" are seen to be forming around the major galaxies in the Virgo Cluster (around Messier 87, Messier 86 and Messier 49), which have yet to coalesce into new galaxy clusters of their own, revealing the continuing creative unfoldment of the Virgo Cluster.

Recent observations also reveal a sparse population of stars in the intracluster space of the Virgo Cluster--the space between galaxies in the cluster. Also found within this population were several hundreds of planetary nebulae wandering within the gravity field of the whole cluster. Planetary nebulae are stars, much like our own sun, but in their final dying phase. At this point in their (old soul) lives, they eject their outer layers, the experiential mass they had accumulated, and unveil their small and hot stellar core, which appears as a "white dwarf star"--their coalesced wisdom, their naked essence. The intracluster population of floating stars and these "old soul cosmic wanderers" are a new revelation articulating yet another facet of our Virgo Super Cluster and the astrological character of our Super Galactic Center.

The Virgo Cluster lies at the center of our Local Super Cluster. "Super Galactic Centre" (SGC) is a term that refers to a point in the Virgo Cluster that marks the centre of our entire Super Cluster. The supergiant galaxy M87 in the Virgo Cluster is believed to mark or lie very close to the Super Galactic Centre--a black hole believed to be about five billion times as massive as our sun. M87 has a halo extending out to at least 65 kpc (more than 200,000 light-years), which is more than twice the size of our own galaxy. Our galaxy, nested in our Local Group, lies about 50 million light years from the Super Galactic Centre in the Virgo Cluster.

If this is not expansive enough for one's mere mortal mind, this vast field of consciousness, which suspends an unlimited number of galactic clusters, all unique with their own galaxies and their diverse star systems, is also filled with "Dark Matter," matter that we do not see. Space, at one time thought of as empty, is now recognized to be comprised of substance--perhaps a step toward recognition of the creative intelligence permeating space. Honoring this underlying or transcendent nature of reality, astrophysicists have come to call Dark Matter, "Quintessence," a term once used by Aristotle to describe the eather. We call this, all of the astrophysical diversity we have come to detect, this field of magnificent stellar creation, our "Known Universe"; and what we see in it, is but through our very limited, electromagnetic-spectrum, lightspeed-dependent modality of perception. Yet still, it appears this Known Universe is too but a bubble of perception amongst an infinity.

Astrologically speaking, Super Galactic Centre can be thought of as the point defining our spiritual origin, a place offering nurturing and guidance for the evolutionary fulfillment of our souls, the spiritual mother center from which guidance and spiritual wisdom expresses. SGC lies in early sidereal Virgo (~7°), just above the Virgin's head, near the Halo of the Virgin (Coma Berenices), but on the border of the two constellations.

Super Galactic Centre provides a phenomenal opportunity for our greater wellbeing, but only if we are willing to totally surrender personality and egoic-based beliefs, attitudes, and past ways of living and follow our inner truths. As is the case of most black holes-–this is all or nothing deal. Super Galactic Centre offers the opportunity to transmute our past for something far greater, but we must be willing to live from Self / Soul rather than from self-importance. We must be willing to relinquish the entirety of attachment to any importance we may assign to our previous experience into this black hole of pure (selfless) Divine Love and follow the emerging guiding currents emanating from it.

On an individual level, the SGC black hole opportunity may present itself in a variety of ways as unique as there are people on the Earth. This can involve the need to relinquish personal scenarios or past events in our lives that may seem that, if we let them go, the ramifications will result in our total demise. But on the contrary, it is only through the surrender, the relinquishment of the past into this massive black hole of cosmic consciousness, of Divine Intelligence, that allows our re-emergence, our re-birth, into a new light of being. This super galactic inversion requires a conscious act where we pull the stream of our past experience into the singularity of the moment, allow it to be consumed in the ever-present now, and re-express self into a new stream unfolding into the future. This can feel as if our world is being turned inside out as our lives are re-defined. In essence, this is a point of Total Trust in Divine Will.

Disseminating Moon Phase Characteristics

Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit in the cycle, of claiming its gift.

Mercury and Venus have been in a close conjunction since the last lunar cycle in sidereal Capricorn and now Aquarius. Mercury now overtakes Venus on March 24, as we move into the crescendo of the Disseminating Moon. This extended conjunction has been supporting the synthesis of Mind and Heart. Mercury will soon conjoin the asteroid Vesta, and then Uranus (on Mar 27), both near by, just after the Disseminating Moon of Mar 25. Mercury, having recently returned direct from its retrograde, provides a commencing force, first to live true to heart; with clarity, focus and commitment; and then stimulating the theme of this Uranian lunar cycle, to engage in our radical break from the conformity of the past--a fresh start--fitting for the birth point in the lunar cycle.

Our Disseminating Moon of Mar 25 resides in late sidereal Libra. The two stars creating the balance of Libra, Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali, are also the Scorpion's Chelae. The Moon conjoins the northern claw, Zubeneschamali.

Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali are the karmic and dharmic seats for humanity, the former about our past experience and patterns of growth, and the latter about our future path of experience and growth, that which we have yet to do, our capacity, or duty in a sense, to balance our experience by doing it differently--to grow and change, to fulfill our lives.

With our Disseminating Moon conjoining Zubeneschamali, we have support to step forth from the patterns of the past, from those life scenarios or modalities of being that perpetuate our entrapment, and to step forth into our future to become.

More about the Chelae of the Scorpion

Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter.

Vesta and Uranus conjoin on Mar 28, during our "inner need, here again influencing our need to get clear and focused upon our Uranian theme.

Last Quarter Moon occurs on Mar 29 in the middle of sidereal Sag. It conjoins Facies of Sag, M22, a globular cluster of stars; Alpha Scutum, of the Galactic Shield of the Holy Cross; Gamma of Mensa, the table mountain; and near by is Nunki of Sagittarius.

All of these entries have a quality embracing forces greater than self, those associated with our evolutionary unfoldment. Here we find the motivation to make the changes in our lives required to keep up with the tremendous evolutionary transition occurring on Earth.

Facies asks us to face this truth; while Alpha Scutum, is defender of this truth. Nunki--of the sea--supports our participation in attunement to Universal Flow. It is by facing the galactic truth and getting in this greater flow that allows our accelerated movement and our capacity to hit the target of our dreams. Mensa, the table mountain, which lies very south and over the South Ecliptical Pole, provides soul-level support to stand for and live in accordance with this truth.

Sun & Pallas

The Sun conjoins the asteroid Pallas on Mar 29-30 in mid-sidereal Pisces just after Last Quarter Moon. This marks the midpoint of the current Earth-Pallas synodic cycle, which began on Sept 2, 2007. Here we may find either issues of judgment, all of the mentalized 'reasons why not' to change, to withdraw; or we use our artistic creative intelligence to move beyond what appears to be the "reasons why not" and to simply make the changes we know we need to make.

Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics

Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

Pluto begins its retrograde hours before the Balsamic Moon of April 2, creating an opening through the remnants of the past.

The Balsamic Moon occurs in early sidereal Aquarius and conjoins Gienah on the tip of the wing of Cygnus and the Cyg x-3 Black Hole, which lies in Cygnus along the galactic equator.

Gienah marking the tip of the wing of the swan invites us to embrace more than self. Cyg X-3 resides in a unique galactic equatorial area, one of the galactic "sacks of coal," a dark void along the galactic plane (easily identified between Sadr and Deneb on a dark starry night). Cyg X-3 provides opportunity to peer beyond the dualities of life due to the absence of "forms" created by the interplay of light. Cyg X-3 offers the opportunity to relinquish segregations based on sex, creed, or culture. Here we cannot wear or hide behind our mortal facades. We are asked to participate from our true unique soul essence and to see the same in others. We are asked to embrace all people from an androgynous perspective transcending soul's incarnational experience in the duality of sexuality. Mutually exclusive attractions based on gender, race, or creed create factions amongst our true soul-level friends and families. Here lies the embracing aspect of the Aquarian Waterbearer, the inclusiveness of Universal / Uranian love.

Our next lunar cycle begins on the New Moon of April 5-6, 2008 in late sidereal Pisces. More to come then.
