The Lunar Month of
April 5, 2008 - May 5, 2008

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

Please remember that the purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

New Moon Phase Characteristics

The New Moon

The Cat's Eye Nebula

The Cat's Eye Nebula at the North Ecliptic Pole around which lies Draco the Dragon. Seems to be an appropriate stellar dynamic overseeing our ecliptic plane from the capstone of the ecliptic sphere of consciousness.

Our New Moon of April 5-6, 2008 occurs in sidereal Pisces. It conjoins the Second Node of the Dragon; a star which lies quite north in the ecliptic in Draco; and the Irregular Galaxy C-1613 in Cetus, which lies just beneath the psycho-emotional waters stirring in sidereal Pisces. Near by and contributing to this month's lunar theme are Alpheratz, Alpha Andromeda, the head of the chained princess, and Alderamin, Alpha Cepheus. Flanking is Revati of Pisces, which also marks the exalted seat of Venus.

Here we have a mixed group of forces, often obscured in the psycho-emotional fog of life. These forces bring issues of growth that we may be dealing with and that have been obscured by our own psycho-emotional congestion to our conscious awareness. These issues are those that may have been contributing to our inability to make the changes in our lives that we mentally know we need to make, and have recently committed to make. Also contributing are the stirring psycho-emotional forces around us of a diversionary nature. However, they only have influence when we have not done the inner emotional clearing required, which perpetuates our resonance with them.

Issues surrounding our personal resources, money, and the resources in the world (Revati) are also brought to the foreground in this lunar cycle. This involves how we feel, consciously or un-consciously, about financial matters, including wealth and poverty; and money's relation to our own self-worth and self-empowerment in the world. Again, here we must realize that money, whether we have it or not, is not the issue, but our inner emotional values and issues are, how we feel about self, which precedes the nature of our expression, participation, and status in the world. Both, our inner emotional resonance surrounding these issues and the collective emotional state created in world are at play here. It helps to remember however, the collective is comprised of individuals, thus by making the inner emotional changes within precedes changing the conditions in our lives and those in the world. As always, change occurs from the inside-out.

Nodus Secundus and the irregular shaped galaxy IC 1613 of Cetus conjoin the theme of Alpheratz, the head of the entrapped princess (Andromeda). Here we are asked to become attentive to the fact that our intent of purpose can be diverted and dispersed by psycho-emotional forces that congest us when toxic physical conditions exist, or when we are naive to such forces. Our psycho-emotional fog can then perpetuate confused life scenarios, antiquated involvements, or entrapments that are no longer in our highest interest. The Second Node (or twisted knot) of the Dragon can indicate our need to claim our own power regarding this theme rather than turning our heads in denial about it and falling into a victim-based sense of helplessness.

Our last lunar cycle invited us to make a fresh start, a radical break from the conformity of our life scenarios. This lunar cycle is one where we must now demonstrate that desire to start anew at the palpable emotional level; and to do the inner emotional work required to actualize this change.

Mercury and Uranus

Mercury and Uranus, the paradigm breaker, begin a new 88-day synodic cycle in late sidereal Aquarius on April 8. This marks the start of a new 3-month period about exploring and developing new logistics that support the radical changes commencing in our lives, which the last lunar cycle had inspired us to make.

Mercury-Uranus synodic cycles are rather quick because of Mercury's fast orbital speed around the sun and Uranus' slow orbital speed, thus, Mercury catches up to Uranus about every three months.

Synodic cycles create our underlying cycles of growth in human consciousness, thus we can think of them as the subtle background music in a symphony whereas the aspects as seen from Earth, planetary conjunctions, etc., create more of the punctual music that stands out in the musical score. See Synodic Cycles and Planetary Retrogrades to learn the basics about synodic cycles and their role in astrology.

This is a dynamic duo and the two work quite well together. Mercury and Uranus are also of higher mental faculties and neurology. They motivate intellectual exploration, to break new ground and move us from our limiting mental constructs of the past. They motivate us to translate our discoveries through communication and the intellectual realm into a logistical expression that is applicable in the daily world of human affairs.

Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations

For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, this time (April 7 and 8) is ideal to work with both the Mercury and Uranus audio mediations in conjunction.

Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics

Expanding on the Theme

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

This Crescent Moon occurs in early sidereal Taurus and conjoins the asteroid Ceres. The crescent conjunction lies just under the Foot of Perseus, which is composed of Zeta Perseus and the potent X-Perseus neutron star; and also Menkhib, on the calf of Perseus, all of which hallmark the need and capacity for dynamic action, that which supports our long-term sole / soul purpose. Sidereal Taurus, in general, is of the physical world, of the home and family, and is of productivity and manifestation providing concrete action is taken for manifestation to occur. Ceres brings awareness to how we nurture and to that which is truly nurturing to us. Ceres embodies mothering and agricultural qualities and brings attention to our relation with the Earth, the land, and nature. Here we are inspired to ground the changes we are making in physicality and into our daily lives.

The Sun and Eris

Just as the lunar cycle began, the Moon conjoined Eris, one of our newly discovered dwarf planets; and now just after the Crescent Moon, on April 10, as we expand on this lunar month's theme, the Sun and Eris conjoin. With its discovery, Eris brought a significant force active in our lives to our conscious awareness. In the realm of Pluto and cohorts, Eris is found to be the disrupter, sort of upsetting the apple cart, but only so a new order can later be established. The Sun-Eris conjunction marks the mid-point of realization in our current Earth-Eris yearly synodic cycle, which began in Oct 2007. This alignment brings to awareness the role of any disruptions or setbacks that may have occurred over the last several months, and how they may have served us to re-order our priorities. Taking note of our realizations on this day can provide perspective about the role of our recent life disruptions, and also bring more insight about the astrological nature of Eris.

Eris, along with the realizations we may have about how our recent disruptions have served us, plays an adjunct role in this lunar cycle. Eris, a very slow mover, is currently at ~26° sidereal Pisces, but south of the ecliptic in the belly of ole' Cetus the Sea Monster, the technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. More about Eris.

First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Initiate Action

The Temple of Castor and Pollux

The ruins of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Forum Romanum was orginally constructed / finished in 484 BC. In republican times the temple served as a meeting place for the Roman Senate, and from the middle of the 2nd century BC the front of the podium served as a speaker's platform. During the imperial period the temple housed the office for weights and measures, and was a depository for the State treasury. (Wikipedia)
--fitting to Gemini.

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter.

Our First Quarter Moon occurs on April 12 in late sidereal Gemini conjoining Pollux, the principal star of the Twins.

Just before First Quarter, during our "stimulus to action" occurring on April 11 the Moon conjoins Mars, an appropriate dynamic for a First Quarter Moon since Mars embodies the bio-resonances associated with creative action. Any hesitancies that may arise about stepping in to the action phase of this lunar cycle may have to do with judgment about use of power.

You can also see the "Planetary Chart" on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page to learn more about Mars energetics.

For those using the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audios, pre-First Quarter Moon (April 11) is ideal time to work the Mars audio mediation.

Pollux of the Twins is the ambassador, orator and liaison. Pollux is of diplomacy and public relations in the daily world of business and commerce; uniting individuals groups and factions for the betterment of humanity. In classical astrology, Pollux portends eminence and renown.

Our Mars First Quarter Moon invites dynamic assertive creative action, especially in the area of communications, public relations, commerce, and unified efforts.

Phobos, the largest Moon of Mars

LP Update - added April 11, 2008

Phobos, the largest Moon of Mars (March 23 2008 Image)

The High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) camera on NASA's Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took two images of the larger of Mars' two moons, Phobos, within 10 minutes of each other on March 23, 2008. This is the first, taken from a distance of about 6,800 kilometers (about 4,200 miles). It is presented in color by combining data from the camera's blue-green, red, and near-infrared channels.

Venus and Uranus

Venus and Uranus begin a new 227-day synodic cycle in late sidereal Aquarius on April 13-14, thus a cycle running through November 2008. Unlike the Mercury-Uranus cycle, which resonates more to the intellectual and mental levels. The Venus-Uranus cycle resonates more at the intuitive level, to explore and break new ground through intuition. Venus and Uranus can turn the heart inside-out, in a good way, from the more exclusive and introverted self focused love to an inclusive and outwardly expressive love. The 227-day Venus-Uranus cycle supports our evolution regarding heart-related matters and the neurology of the Heart, as well as our immune system development.

Sun Aries

The Sun moves into sidereal Aries on April 14.

Mars and Varuna

This dramatic three-dimensional visualization of Mars' north pole is based on elevation measurements made by the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA). The data has now been translated to a detailed topographic map of Mars' north polar terrain.

Mars and Varuna conjoin in the midst of sidereal Gemini on April 15. Varuna, also a newly discovered member of our solar was the first planet beyond Pluto to receive a name. In mythology, Varuna is considered to be the merciful, supportive, and heavenly king of both the gods and humans. Varuna upholds cosmic (natural) law (not man's societal law) and a path of natural order. Varuna is considered to be the all-embracing lord of the waters. Varuna's astrological influence, as identified by some astrological researchers (e.g. Juan Antonio Revilla of Costa Rica, Revilla, et.al.), seems to be a force working behind the scenes, in the vast and underlying aspects of nature and consciousness. Varuna appears to have a role in establishing equilibrium via naturally occurring events. Like all new planets, astrologers are just discovering the role of Varuna. Varuna was discovered in early sidereal Gemini, which also lends insight into its role in our lives. More on Varuna.

Astrologically, Mars and Varuna would seem to make a good paring; supporting the use of creative power in concert with natural order and environmental conditions; bringing awareness to our need to use our creative power to support life rather than to destroy it--seems a hard lesson for humanity to get, and perhaps natural disasters or disruptions in our lives is nature's way to tell us when something is wrong that needs to righted.

Mercury Sun

Mercury, now at its superior conjunction on April 16, just hours before the Gibbous Moon, resides at the mid-point of realization in the current Earth-Mercury 116-day synodic cycle that began in Oct 2007. The theme is about questions and realizations about intimate support in our lives, our personal relations, and the nurturing quality of our environments in which we live-- are these bonds of strength or sticky emotional entanglements. Now is the time for realizations regarding the meaning of this current Mercurial theme in our lives. The current Earth-Mercury synodic theme was presented in the Oct 11 2007 lunar Planner.

For Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio users: April 15, in the crescendo of the Mercury-Sun conjunction, is an ideal time to work with the Mercury Audio. (See this month's Lunar Calendar for exact times for planetary configurations.)

It is not uncommon for suppressed anger or resentment to surface upon the Mercury opposition. The reason for this is that Mercury's bio-harmonic resonance is with the thyroid / throat chakra, which is the seat of this specific emotional tone. (Many astrologer's mistakenly relate anger issues solely with Mars. See the Planetary Chart on the Planetary Bio-Harmonic web page for Bio-harmonic / emotional correspondences.) When the thyroid / throat chakra's neurological vibrational resonance is underactive, we may function at a level of victim consciousness; hence validating any anger or resentment we may righteously hold. When the neurological resonance of the throat chakra is evolved to a more refined level, we function as co-creators of our experience, realizing our role and responsibility in creating our life experiences. From this resonance, we articulate our truth and take creative action to change our experience from a place of inner peace and personal empowerment. In the lesser vibrational resonance we merely re-act in apparent helpless frustration, venting any suppressed anger / resentment. The Mercury opposition provides and an ideal time to shift any lesser vibrational patterns and subsequent emotions that are throat chakra related to a higher vibrational expression--hence why it is an ideal time to work with the Mercury Audio Meditation.

Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics

Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

This Gibbous Moon of April 15-16 resides in mid-sidereal Leo. It lies over the Sextant and conjoins Suhail Velorum on the sail of the Argo; and Zosma and Chort on the hind of the Lion.

Changing winds are up. There can be diversionary foul winds present while at the same time transcendent subtle currents leading to our greater fulfillment. Discernment, inner clarity and centeredness are required to know the difference and which winds and currents to set our sails to. The winds occurring now are of a magnetic nature that can draw people together or pull others apart.

Juno Retrograde

Juno stations to begin its retrograde while conjoining Pluto on the Gate of God in sidereal Sagittarius on April 18. An opening in partnerships occurs, perhaps endings for some. Juno will soon begin a new 486-day synodic cycle with Earth in the midst of its retrograde in June. Now through then is the period when we start a redefining period in relationships, and where we start to disengage from the previous Earth-Juno synodic cycle, which began in April of 2007; and which was presented in the March 18 2007 Lunar Planner.

Full Moon Phase Characteristics

Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

Our Full Moon occurs on April 20 in early sidereal Libra and conjoins the significant Miaplacidus of Argo Navis.

Miaplacidus, Beta Carina of Argo Navis, is the second most important star of the Argo--the first being Canopus, Alpha Carina (the helmsman). Miaplacidus is of navigation and migration or pilgrimage to appropriate places and creating spaces of harmony for a new birth in life.

Miaplacidus also embodies the artscience of astronomical Earthgrid mapping work. "Mia" is of greater universal flowing waters of Source; and "Placidus" is of grid-navigational-mapping. Miaplacidus creates a significant part of the theme of Carina, the keel of the Argo. Miaplacidus involves spacetime navigational mapping of cosmic evolutionary currents (evolutionary intelligence) that naturally occur in the greater ocean of Unified Creative Substance, the ocean of Divine Love in which we live; or more simply put, the mapping of Earth's and our natural, and currently accelerating, evolutionary process. More succinctly, Miaplacidus inspires us to find and ensure a harmonious environment in space and time for the pursuit of our purpose and our greater fulfillment and wellbeing.

Allen (Star Names: Their Lore and Meaning) points out the name is possibly derived from Maïa-placidus, and that Higgins asserts it to be from Miyah, the plural of the Arabic Mâ, Water, but the original better described as Mi'ah. In either case the essence here is that of the navigation upon the waters, but meaning not only the waters of the Earth, but also the galactic waters of light, which comprise the flowing essence from which manifestation comes. Also let us note that the Indian Sanskrit Maya is indicative of the illusory nature of the solidification of light, matter, which hides the flow of the waters of light, or the "creative power of God."

The Earthgrid is not a separate isolated geometry. Astronomical orientations and geometries provide the dynamic activation of the Earthgrid--making active specific places at specific times in one symbiotic process that supports the spiritual awakening of Earth and humanity. This same spacetime activation process occurs in our individual lives (as can be seen in the continuing unfoldment of a natal astrology chart). On a personal level, Miaplacidus can inspire traveling, explroing, to or moving to different locations on the Earth at different times in our lives that support our evolutionary fulfillment. Identifying the right place and the right time can be an intuitive process and / or one mapped at an individual level with the artsciences of Astronomical Earthgrid Mapping (or astro-cartography).

This is a migratory Full Moon. Our vision, enthusiasm and realizations regarding this lunar cycle may incorporate a need to travel or to move to new locations that are more in resonance or in harmony to our changing needs or the new births we are making.

Venus and Pallas

Just after Full Moon, on the day of realization in the lunar cycle, April 20-21, Venus and Pallas conjoin in sidereal Pisces augmenting the Miapalcidus Full Moon with matters of the heart--whether we suppress our hearts' truth with attitudes and judgments about what is right or wrong, good or bad; or artistically express our true hearts' passion beyond all of the reasons "why not." The synthesis of Venus and Pallas is also of the arts and artists. Uninhibited expression of the art/heart is abundance. Suppression of it is only based in fear and judgment that shuts us down from the abundance life has to offer.

Disseminating Moon Phase Characteristics

Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift.

Our Manifesting Moon of April 24 resides in late sidereal Scorpio and lies over the Altar of the Centaur and the potent Ara X-ray source V821.

The mythical image here is of the Centaur placing Lupus the beast, with conscious deliberation, upon the Centaur's sacrificial altar.

V821 in Ara is an x-ray emitting & fluctuating binary star. This is a collapsed object (like an old neutron star) that accretes matter, and thus had been placed in the Black Hole model by astronomers and had for a long time been called the Ara Black Hole. V821 accretes emotion for consummation in the Centaur's Pyre. Here we must place, with conscious deliberation, any long standing grief, guilt, anger, and any other emotion (especially self-judgment related), our neural knots of blockage, upon the Altar of the Centaur for our transmutation. North from the Sting of the Scorpion drips the transmuting elixir (the often harsh lessons of life), upon the Altar. This act is essential to experience the actual neurological transmutation made possible here, and that leads to our greater self-mastery and fulfillment: the mastery exemplified by Ophiuchus, who stands over the Scorpion and this entire scene. If we are not ready to surrender and relinquish our antiquated emotional baggage, we are held back and continue to experience upsets, diversions, and even traumatic and catastrophic events in our lives.

This sacrificial rite, occurring at the end of sidereal Scorpio, under its sting, and upon the low Altar of the Centaur, precedes movement to the high Altar, which resides in early Sagittarius, and where upon lies our Galactic Center--and which leads to the subsequent passage through the Gate of God (5° sidereal Sag)--which is currently guarded and opened only by autonomous Pluto.

Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter.

Last Quarter Moon occurs on April 28 in the middle of sidereal Capricorn and exactly conjoins the "the Hyperborean Cusp of the Heptanomis."

Mid-Capricorn marks the beginning of where the "constellation" of Aquarius begins, thus, the energetics of both Aquarius and Capricorn overlap in the second half of sidereal Capricorn and create a shift from the more personally focus, covert and exclusive nature of early Capricorn to the more inclusive and mature nature of latter Capricorn.

A principle resonance occurs here at the start of the Capricorn-Aquarius overlap created by the Hyperborean Cusp of the Heptanomis. What the heck is that you might wonder. This is the polar location occurring early on in Earth ~25,000-year precessional cycle (in the reversed direction of Earth's pole through the eclipitc) that marks the start of the second of seven heavens, the second day of creation, that is, the second epoch in our current evolutionary cycle of the soul. This is where Earth's pole tilts at the perfect angle of incidence away from the plane of galactic light such that the Light of Source begins to refract, disperse, and fragment into rainbow colored rays. (Hyper means to move away from, while Borean is from Borealis, which means the most northern and magnetically charged galactic location in Earth's precessional cycle). This ecliptical location in mid-Capricorn creates a divine divisioning into new and unique paths of soul expression, a divisioning into soul complements.

Back on the Earth plane (and in the normal direction of planetary movement) the issue of Trust arises at this location in sidereal Capricorn. Here lies our need to participate by trusting in the paths of our souls and in the spirit force guiding us rather than to participate from decisions made from our limited egoic selves that think they know better but that only see the deceiving physical facades we ware upon the incarnate stage of life. Here is where we are asked to shift from fear-driven motive to "trust."

Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics

Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Balsamic Moon occurs on May 1-2 in early sidereal Pisces and conjoins the Theta, Lambda and Iota Pisces, which creates the Head of the Fish; and also Matar of Pegasus, which lies north.

This point in the ecliptic marks movement from high mental activity and the vulnerability to psychic manipulation and entrapment that living in the mind causes, to the wet sensual emotional world of Pisces and the aquatics. Matar, on the left forearm of Pegasus, is from Al Sa‘d al Matar--the Fortunate Rain--the wet emotional gush point in the zodiak providing a release from built up psychic-emotional tension.

Saturn Direct

On May 2-3, Saturn returns direct, which marks the full commencement of our new Earth-Saturn synodic cycle, which began during its retrograde on Feb 24 and which was presented in the Feb 6, 2008 Lunar Planner. The theme: "This new 378-day Earth-Saturn theme starting on Feb 24 brings to conscious awareness our responsibility to navigate our evolutionary course with the understanding of the long-term ramifications involved. In addition, we find the need to shift what was perhaps a long-standing momentum established in the patriarchal-based bureaucratic structures governing our world, as well as our need to take a new approach regarding those long-standing but now out-dated established life scenarios or modalities of being within our own lives."

The Cycles of Saturn

The Sidereal Return

The "sidereal return of the Moon" occurs on May 3. (The lunar sidereal return is when the Moon returns to the location of where the New Moon occurred in the ecliptic. The sidereal return always occurs soon after the Balsamic Moon.) This is when we fully adsorb the experience of the lunar cycle into our total human memory matrix--adding to our wisdom. The lunar sidereal return can be considered the formal close of the lunar cycle.

Our next lunar cycle begins on the New Moon of May 5, 2008 in late sidereal Aries. More to come then.
