The Lunar Theme for the
September 18, 2009 New Moon

The Administration of Our Lives

The Lunar Month of
September 18, 2009 - October 18 2009

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

Lunar Cycle Overview

This New Moon occurs on the cusp of sidereal Virgo and conjoins Saturn and Makemake (pronounced MAH-keh MAH-keh). Occurring within this lunar cycle is the start of the new 32-year Saturn-Makemake cycle. The theme of this lunar cycle and the theme of the new 32-year Saturn-Makemake cycle are quite similar. The Saturn-Makemake cycle is defined by the alignment (synod) of Saturn and Makemake looking from the Sun. The New Moon alignment is: Earth-Moon-Sun-Saturn-Makemake. The primary New Moon stars are Benatnasch of the Great Bear (Ursa Major); Zavijava of Virgo; and Cor Caroli and the Giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of the Barking Hounds. Benatnasch is of the old totalitarian governing stream of consciousness and Zavijava is of naïve followers of this stream of consciousness.

Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune have been conjoining in the latter few degrees of sidereal Capricorn, at the cusp of sidereal Capricorn-Aquarius since April of 2009. Now, in the midst of their retrogrades, Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune begin new and compounded synodic cycles. The new Jupiter-Chiron cycle began in the previous lunar cycle and a new Jupiter-Neptune 12.7-year cycle begins immediately following the New Moon. The theme of this compounded cycle is defined by the cuspal stars of sidereal Aquarius--primarily Sadr, heart the Swan, Cygnus.

Mercury and Juno, both in the midst of their retrogrades, begin new and compounded cycles with Earth on Sept 20-21. The Mercury retrograde period is when we disengage from the previous 116-day Mercury-Earth cycle and engage in the new 116-day cycle. The few week retrograde period itself provides opportunity to re-define or re-synchronize the logistical aspects of our lives. A new Juno-Uranus 4.5-year cycle began in the previous lunar cycle marking a principal and radical transition point for relationships and partnerships of all types. The new Mercury-Earth-Juno cycle starting now is a part of this transition and will tend to actualize the changes occurring in our relationships, especially in the logistical aspects of our lives. Our new Mercury-Earth-Juno cycle's theme is defined by the stars seen looking from the Sun toward the Mercury-Earth-Juno alignment (synod), which lie within the first two degrees of the wet sensual emotional waters of Pisces.

All of these events, the Saturn-Makemake New Moon (and lunar cycle); the start of the new 12.7-year Jupiter-Neptune cycle; the start of the new Mercury-Juno-Earth cycle; and the start of the new 32-year Saturn-Makemake cycle, which occurs just after the First Quarter Moon (a time to initiate action in the lunar cycle) are a parts of the dynamic set of planetary alignments occurring throughout September 2009; and that are responsible for the "September 2009 Turning" in the very significant 2008-2011 timeline presented in the article: In Search of the Golden Egg: Makemake, Saturn, Uranus & the Global Economy. This lunar month should provide further and significant insight in the Makemake's astrological influence.

The asteroid Pallas will begin new cycles with Saturn and Makemake before the Piscean Full Moon, adding its energetic to the start of the new Saturn-Makemake 32-cycle. Pallas invites us to apply our creative intelligence artfully beyond judgmental sidetaking.

The Sun and Haumea, another recently discovered dwarf planet, conjoin in this lunar cycle, which marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Haumea 366-day cycle. Earth Venus and Haumea began a compounded cycle in early April 2009.

Synodic Cycles

I often discuss longer-term Synodic Cycles in the Lunar Planner. Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.

New Moon Phase Characteristics

The New Moon

This lunar cycle begins a "Solunar Sidereal Synchronization" period that will continue for several lunar cycles-through April of 2010. This means that each New Moon will reside on the cusp of a sidereal sign. During this time, the Lunar Cycles can be more transformative in nature because the transition from one sidereal sign to the next is also of a transformative nature; and although the nature of each sidereal sign changes throughout the sign, the last degree of the previous sign marks a completion and the first degree of the following sidereal sign embodies the totality of that sign yet to unfold.

Our New Moon of September 18, 2009 occurs in the first degree of sidereal Virgo and conjoins Saturn and Makemake. The New Moon stars are Benatnasch of Ursa Major ; Cor Caroli and the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51, both of Canes Venatici; and Zavijava of Virgo. Also conjoining are Epsilon and Delta of Crateris.

Benatnasch, the principal New Moon star, is the tip of the Great Bear's tail (Ursa Major) and one of the classical seven rays. Benatnasch expresses the old dictatorial and totalitarian stream of consciousness that was predominantly dominant when Earth's polar alignment was tilted (had fallen) furthest from the galactic plane in Earth's great precessional year (about 6000 years ago). Hence Benatnasch is mythically considered a fallen lord.

The Makemake-Saturn New Moon - Sept 18, 2009

Benatnasch is of this long-established totalitarian governing paradigm. It is of political-religious factions of big business and of those who tend to act as manipulating and controlling godheads. It is often of those that perpetuate a dogmatic structure that keeps individuals from becoming self-responsible, evolving into their own self-mastery. It is of those who tend to tell others what is right for them and what they should do using propaganda rather than supporting others to make their own decisions in freedom. It is of the self-proclaimed saviors of the world who try to amass their blind followers for their own interest in maintaining a position of power and wealth.

This stream of consciousness ultimately teaches souls to claim their responsibility for self, for humanity to become a self-governing body, for the people to claim their power. As humanity is now birthing into a more self-aware state of consciousness, this could not be more important. However, we continue to see those less aware seeking big brother to care and provide for them, further bolstering this dominancy. Unfortunately our social structure has evolved to a point where dependency for basic survival has become so rampant that it is impossible for the mass majority to even get a foothold into a self-sustaining societal mode.

The days of dictators, gurus and followings, perhaps at one time served the sleeping masses, but they are now manipulative and suppressive to the emergence of a new soul-aware consciousness on Earth.

The Arabic name for Benatnasch is Alkaid, which means "the leader," alluding to its self-proclamation as such. Unlike the five middle stars of Ursa Major (Mizar, Alioth, Megrez, Phecda and Merak), which move as a loosely nit group in the same direction, Benatnasch and Dubhe are not of this group and move in different directions. In contrast to Benatnasch, Dubhe is quite opposite in character. Dubhe, entering the ecliptic in late Cancer and over the head of the Lion, inspires pursue for a greater vision that embodies our evolutionary freedom and our personal and collective fulfillment.

Lying just under Benatnasch and conjoined in longitude is the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of Canes Venatici, the barking hounds, and Cor Caroli, the Alpha star of the hounds. Cor Caroli, M51, and Canes Venatici in general, embody the diversionary tactics, usually of a grandiose scale and glamorous facade, a front large enough to draw attention away from what is really of going on by making the masses believe the staged show is what is of extreme importance and of real issue--corruption and the highest of levels. A Super Nova was discovered in M51 on Apr. 2, 1994, marking another upsurge in this energetic.

Conjoining Benatnasch is Zavijava, which lies nearly on the ecliptic. Although a star of Virgo, Zavijava lies outside the realm of Virgo proper, before the head of the Virgin. It does not offer the clarity and purity of awareness common to the rest of the Virgo stars. Zavijava is of a passive and submissive character, articulating the blind and naïve followers of the Benatnasch directive--those who are swayed by the diversionary dramatics of their manipulative leaders and believe in the miss-information they are being fed.

Many people believe / see that the economic crisis currently at hand was crafted by those in power, only to create a restructuring of big-business for those in power to gain a greater manipulative position. As result leaving even more of the mass populace in need of a bail out, in essence, creating more of dependency on those in power. In the larger context, this dramatic upon the global stage is serving the sleeping to awaken to the manipulative shenanigans going on, to claim their power, and to emerge into a new consciousness and refined societal mode of being.

Saturn and Makemake's presence make this lunar cycle one to bring attention to the extremely significant 2008-2011 timeline and its essence, presented in the article: In Search of the Golden Egg.

Although we have minimal verifiable understanding in the nature of Makemake's astrological influence, Makemake--merely from what I have dicerened so far--appears to bring our attention to how financial resources are administered, with a force to re-define that administration in the greater interest of all life on Earth.

A few summations about Makemake:

Makemake's Myth
- Finding the Golden Egg: Demonstrating prowess and worthiness for leadership and the ability to provide and ensure physical nourishment for the people.

Makemake's Discovery
- interceding in the dramatic, manipulative and diversionary antics of old-paradigm world politics and big-business.

Makemake's Role (Aphelion-Perihelion)
- economics, finance and money
- leadership as protector and provider for the people
- heeding the signs of the times and that of the natural world
- creating environmental conditions supportive of a healthy, prosperous and abundant life for all souls.

Makemake's inspiration for Action (Makemake Nodes)
- surrendering lower-order ego-drivin motives and standing in the wisdom gained from the sting of past experience
- strategic planning and enterprising action based from this wisdom.

Learn more about Makemake.

It seems clear that the aspects occurring with Makemake throughout this 2008-2011 timeline play a tremendous role in what has been a long pending need for a restructuring of our economic paradigm and the economics of our lives. Saturn's conjunction with Makemake (as they approach their synod) make this lunar cycle one about this restructuring; and one about the controlling global powers. It invites us to discern the manipulative dramatic diversions occurring upon the global stage and in our lives from that which is of true essence--to help us realize how to continue to create and cross the bridge required to a new and empowered structure of life. This lunar cycle heralds a "wake-up" call. It invites us to look not only at the administration of government and big business, but also how we are administering our own lives and the structural changes we need to make regarding it.

The Sun-Saturn and Sun-Makemake New Moon conjunction also mark the mid-point of vision and realization in two synodic cycles. The Earth-Saturn cycle and the Earth-Makemake cycle. The Earth-Saturn cycle began on March 8, 2009. The theme of both cycles are presented in the Feb 25, 2009 Lunar Planner.

An excerpt from the Feb 25 Lunar Planner regarding the current Saturn cycle:

"...Thus, our new Saturn synodic cycle (March 8), expressing over the next 378 days, may yield a lot of hot air and foul winds producing a dramatic racket and fiery commotion, but which are mere diversionary tactics intended to distract the masses from the real issues at hand. This may accentuate the last dramatic gasps of the totalitarians and covert manipulators. On the other hand, we may also find those participating in the system (Saturn) with sincerity in their efforts to re-structure the foundation of the system and lead humanity through the diversionary smoke to a greater fulfillment. Remember that Uranus remains in opposition to Saturn--hence this radical upheaval and the challenge for change, to break us free from the conformity of the past. Either way Mizar's fiery expressive force is at work. The primary issue here is one of discernment, to extract a path that leads to our true wellbeing from the dramatic racket occurring in the world around us. Although this predominantly occurs in the global arena, under the auspices of Mizar's dramatic fiery expression, in the totalitarian patriarchal dominant world of Benatnasch, in the midst of noisy Asterion of the barking hounds, and in the toxicity common to the hind of the Lion, we also experience this energetic in our personal lives, with need to discern and sort through the underpinnings of our own lives, of the systems we follow, of the junk we may have accumulated that clutters our lives, as the challenge for radical change is at hand. Hence the months immediately ahead may be of diversionary dramatics, but it is a time of sorting that which is of value from that which is not, one which precedes the point of turning in the Saturn-Uranus opposition to occur in September 2009, and the subsequent mobilization of change in 2010, when Jupiter joins Uranus in opposition to Saturn."

Because this New Moon marks the mid-point of these synodic cycles, it also provides vision and revelation about what these cycles mean in our lives.

The New Jupiter Neptune 12.7-year Synodic Cycle

Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune have been conjoining in the latter few degrees of sidereal Capricorn, at the cusp of sidereal Capricorn-Aquarius. The first Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune conjunction was presented the April 25, 2009 Lunar Planner: "Beneficence - The Crossing Begins." It initiated a several month period with a mobilizing, expansive, optimistic and opportunistic force to create and cross a Chironic bridge.

Now, in the midst of their retrogrades, Jupiter, Chiron and Neptune begin new and compounded synodic cycles. Jupiter and Chiron began their new synodic cycle on Sept 4, in the previous lunar cycle, and Jupiter and Neptune begin their new 12.7-year synodic cycle on Sept 19, 2009 the day after our New Moon.

This synod creates another significant turning point in the evolutionary underlying currents upon which we ride. This many month Jupiter Neptune conjunction and the new Jupiter Neptune synodic theme is also significant because Jupiter will now start to move to through sidereal Aquarius as it makes its way to conjoin Uranus starting in May 2010 and continuing through early 2011, a time period where we will experience an expansive mobilization of the changes we are making now.

The Wing of Cygnus

The Wing of Cygnus
The Lacework Nebula

The Jupiter-Neptune synod occurs just across the cusp of sidereal Aquarius and conjoins Sadr of Cygnus, heart of the Swan. Aquarians are of vision and creativity, they are unpredictable, original and innovative in all that they accomplish. For "the future well being of Humanity" they are the visionaries, and so seek to support humanitarian pursuits especially in the arts and sciences--that which the nourishing flowing waters of the Waterbearer support.

The wing of Cygnus the Swan, which extends from Sadr, the heart of the Swan, to Gienah, the tip of the wing marks the cusp of sidereal Aquarius. We also have the Veil (Lacework) Nebula residing on the wing near Gienah as well.

This point in the ecliptic is where we are motivated to strip off the cloaks of personality-based facades and shenanigans to reveal true heart-level self and to live from our deeper hearts' truth for the greater nourishment of all. Sadr, the heart, and the wing of Cygnus lift us from a self-centered exclusive focus to a more embracing and inclusive level of participation. This marks the start of the true humanitarian facet of the zodiak.

Also conjoining Sadr is the Quasar 2134+004, which resides in Aquarius. This Quasar inspires us to enter deep within self and to bring forth our unique substance and soul essence that is of true value to each other and to the world, rather than projecting just superficial skin-deep appearances or false facades common to earlier sidereal Capricorn. Here we are motivated to demonstrate our capacity to participate with true humanitarian vision, with interest for all rather than for the manipulation of an exclusive few" - and this is Jupiter-Neptune's motivation for the next 12.7 years.

Just for reference: The last Jupiter-Neptune 12.7 year cycle began on December 24, 1996 in the first couple degrees of sidereal Capricorn. The first couple of degrees of sidereal Capricorn bring to sobering light the reality of translating and applying our high visionary ideals and embracing principles common to earlier Sagittarius and Lyra into concretized practical form in the physical world. Here we have the support to actualize our ideals, but we are also faced with the aberrations or distortions of those ideals when doing so.

These first few degrees of Capricorn can also involve areas of all esoteric sciences, as well as the secret places and orders associated with those artsciences--places of personal retreat, seclusion, hermitages--places strategic to one's purpose. We also have support to identify and move to such places as well. The first few degrees of Capricorn can also be of magic, hermetism, esoterism, and religion. Early Capricorn is of a personal focus, more about self-accomplishment, personal desires, and the cloaks and facades we wear or present in the world; and it is militaristic and of domination.

The Logistics of Relationships
The New Mercury-Earth-Juno Synodic Cycle

The Sun, Mercury and Earth align in the midst of Mercury's retrograde on September 20, 2009, which marks the start of the new 116-day Mercury-Earth synodic cycle. Also in this alignment is the asteroid Juno (Sun-Mercury-Earth-Juno). Thus we have a compounded synodic cycle. The Earth-Juno synod occurs on Sept 21 less than a degree from the Mercury-Earth synod. The Earth-Juno cycle is 1.5 years, and the Mercury-Juno cycle is 94 days.

Juno is the asteroid of covenant relationships, soul colleagues, and true lovers. In an astrological chart, Juno indicates the nature of the issues and opportunities in significant relations of all sorts: those that are of a personal nature to those of political leaders and nations of the world. Mature Juno is diplomatic, tactful, cooperative, and mutually trusting. Mature Juno expresses with a sense of equality within self that provides the ability to draw true partners and those of equality into one's life. There is an acceptance of another's truth or opinion without need to challenge or debate. There is an ability to honor and support others in their own choices and decisions. Mature Juno expresses self-confidence in humbleness and without defense.

Potential Juno issues are: Superiority / inferiority complexes - competitiveness, defensiveness, lack of self confidence, arrogance and judgment of others; unconscious manipulation of others - power struggles seeking contention; betrayal, bitterness, spitefulness and standoffs; jealousy and possessiveness; one-up-man-ship--validating self by invalidating others (or reverse); dictating behavior--telling others what they should or should not do--minding others' business instead of one's own. More about Juno.

The theme of this Mercury-Earth-Juno synod is one about the logistics of relationships. This cycle stimulates a reorganization in all types of relationships--those of a personal nature as well as partnerships of business and politics, and allegiances between organizations and countries.

Juno-Uranus synodic cycle 4.5 years
Earth-Juno synodic cycle 1.5 years
Mercury-Earth synodic cycle 116 days
Mercury-Juno synodic cycle 94 days

Keep in mind that a new Juno-Uranus 4.5-year cycle began in the previous lunar cycle marking a principal and radical transition point for relationships and partnerships of all types. The new Mercury-Earth-Juno cycle starting now is a part of this transition and will tend to actualize the changes occurring in our relationships. Our new Mercury-Earth-Juno cycle's theme is defined by the stars seen looking from the Sun toward the Mercury-Earth-Juno synod, which lie within the first two degrees of sidereal Pisces, very near where the Juno-Uranus synod occurred, in "the circlet" of Pisces, a circle of stars that marks the head of the western fish. Lying north of the circlet and marking this Piscean cusp is the Matar on the left forearm of Pegasus, which marks the gush point in the zodiak. Matar is from Al Sa‘d al Matar--the Fortunate Rain--which articulates movement from high mental and social activity of later sidereal Aquarius, and the vulnerability to psychic manipulation and entrapment that living in the mind alone can cause, exemplified by the Zetas of Reticuli, which mark the end of Aquarius, to the wet sensual and emotionally palpable world of Pisces.

Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics

Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in its new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon of September 21-22 resides in late sidereal Libra and conjoins Zubenelgenubi of Libra. Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali in modern illustrations form the balance or scales of Libra. They respectively lie at ~20° and ~24° Libra. These two stars are also the "Chelae of the Scorpion," extending from the sign of Scorpio and its head back into Libra. The Chelae of the Scorpion reach toward the legs of the Virgin, which extend from sidereal Virgo into the first half of sidereal Libra. The overall image is of the Virgin giving birth into the Chelae of the Scorpion. This image articulates the birthing of the soul into reincarnational process of soul growth through the balance of experience. This mythical articulation was destroyed in recent (Chaldean / Roman) times: The Scorpion’s Chelae and the Virgin's legs had both been severed from our stellar mythos, and so too its profound significance regarding the reincarnational process of soul growth.

Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali are the karmic and dharmic seats for humanity, the former about our past experience and patterns of growth, and the latter about our future path of experience and growth, that which we have yet to do, our capacity, or duty in a sense, to do it differently--to grow and change.

Alignments with Zubenelgenubi, the southern claw, indicate a responsibility to address or complete any entrapping situations--unfinished business, or simply entrapping patterns and scenarios in this life. Zubenelgenubi also marks Saturn's exalted location in the ecliptic. Saturn is often called the lord of karmic retribution. This is also the location of Pluto's perihelion. Alignments with Zubeneschamali, the northern claw, indicate a responsibility to step forward from our past patterns of growth and life scenarios into our intended new experience, into our future destiny, by taking the responsibility to choose a new experience, to choose a new way, a new participation. It is through this balance of experience that we free ourselves from our past, or better to say, that fulfills our past.

As we creatively start to expand upon our Makemake-Saturn New Moon theme, a sense of responsibility arises to deal with the wake of our past--certainly fitting for the global power shenanigans driving our economic fiasco.

First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on September 25-26 in sidereal Sag. The Moon conjoins Pluto just prior to First Quarter and thus Pluto is very much a player in providing our external stimulus to action.

Pluto is often called the great reducer and the opener due to its tendency to dismantle the superfoulus in our lives and brings to its essence. Pluto also demands we deal with the longer-term ramifications of our actions and life scenarios, our karma, extending beyond a mere lifetime. Pluto stimulates action to address how we co-participate and cooperate with humankind in our daily lives motivated from an all-embracing global vision.

See "Pluto and Orcus, Pluto's Compliment" for a new & extensive exploration into the nature of Pluto.

Our First Quarter Moon conjoins the Solar Apex. The Solar Apex marks the unique location in the heavens toward which our Sun is "currently" traveling, which lies north in the heavens near the Vega star system. Vega is stargate to mansion universes of light where a multiplicity of opportunity exists for souls' evolutionary fulfillment. The Solar Apex is held open by the outstretched hand of the god–man, Hercules, who stands upside-down in the heavens with feet (soul purpose) in the realm of the gods and hands (daily work) in the realm of incarnate souls. The Solar Apex embodies the unique and majestic path of the soul. At personal level, the Solar Apex asks us to honor that we each have a soul path that is totally unique to ourselves, a path which is beyond what others may see or even relate to. The Solar Apex invites us to honor and to walk our very unique sole/soul/solar path's in the world--daring us to take a stand for our personal truths--no matter what those paths may look like to others or how they may or may not fit in with mass-consensus.

The themes of the Solar Apex, The Gate of God, the tip of the Zen Archer's arrow, and the dazzling surrounding nebulas all amalgamate. Here we are asked to take aim and undauntingly pursue our ideals and dreams in total trust. To Believe! This amalgamate asks us to focus without hesitancy or doubt upon our soul purpose in life and to know that our unique paths, although often obscured, nest within the greater directive and in the spacetiming of the evolutionary cycle of the soul collective on Earth. Here we are asked to live true to our soul intent and to live and act in the now, in the moment-to-moment focus, undaunted and in the zeropoint power of Divine Love.

The Solar Apex also defines the theme of our current Earth-Pluto synodic cycle, which began on the New Moon of June 22, 2009.

The New Saturn-Makemake 32-year Synodic Cycle

On September 27, just after the First Quarter Moon, the Sun, Saturn and Makemake align, which begins the new Saturn-Makemake 32-year Synodic Cycle. This event marks a primary turning point in our 2008-2011 timeline. The star alignments of this synod include Benatnasch of the Great Bear; Zavijava of Virgo; and Cor Caroli and the Giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of the Barking Hounds.

As stated above, the theme of this new 32-year cycle and this lunar cycle are one and the same. A detailed look into the new Saturn-Makemake synodic cycle is presented in the article: In Search of the Golden Egg: 2008-2011.

Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics

Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

This Gibbous Moon occurs on September 30 and conjoins Chiron and Neptune in late sidereal Capricorn. It lies in the overlap of area of Capricorn and Aquarius in a very fortuitous band of the zodiak. It conjoins Nashira of Capricorn; Beta Gruis; Kitalpha of Equuleus; Sadalsuud, Beta Aquarius; and Deneb Algedi of Capricorn.

This is an expressive and articulate area of the zodiak, with gregarious and loquacious qualities. It is of libraries, courts, congresses, publishing houses, literary agencies, or where any legalities are formulated, agreed upon and concretized. Nashira is the bringer of good news, especially regarding legalities, business dealings, and constitutional matters, as well as sanctioned matters of the soul. Beta Gruis inspires the verbal expression of related wisdom, that of business and politics. As the stork, Gruis is carrier of bodies of knowledge, information, and news associated with new life and new beginnings. Prominent alignments with Beta Gruis and Nashira are exemplary of carriers of good tidings associated with legalities.

Sadalsuud of Aquarius is the luckiest in the kingdom or worldly affairs, and is said to embody the Fortune of the Fortunate. Sadalsuud, along with Deneb Algedi, produce genuinely wise, articulate, unique, and beneficent leadership.

Kitalpha is the alpha star of the little foal, Equuleus. According to R.H. Allen, some mythologists associate Equulei to Celeris, the brother of Pegasus, presented by Mercury to Castor; or Cyllarus, given to Pollux by Juno; or the creature struck by Neptune's trident when contesting with Minerva for superiority. Kitapha and the little foal bring a quality of lightness, swiftness and vigor to the communicative and fortuitous nature of the last few degrees of sidereal Capricorn.

Full Moon Phase Characteristics

Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

Our Full Moon occurs on October 3-4 in mid-sidereal Pisces. The revelation about this lunar cycle is provided by Algenib of Pegasus and the Pegasus quasar 3C9.

The Great Square of Pegasus is created by Markab, Scheat, Algenib and Alpheratz (occurring in that order in ecliptical longitude). The principles and qualities embodied in each of these four stars reveal the requirements for our psycho-physiological preparation to become free from the bounds limiting us from participating in a more fulfilling and purposeful expression in the world. This "refinement of self" allows us to rise above the bounds of the psychic-emotional entrapments common to collective human consciousness in accomplishment of soul's greater mission. These four stars have long been associated with the feet of a table or stand, thus a supporting foundation or stage upon which something else transpires, is supported, or rises from.

Algenib, Gamma Pegasus, tip of this horse's wing, is a fortuitous star. Algenib and adjoining Quasar 3C9 articulate our need / capacity to lift ourselves above Cetus, the Kraken, the techno bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, that is, above the psychic-emotional fear-based realm of life. This does not mean in denial of it, but in the personal clarity to not be entangled or caught in it. Algenib asks us to refine our capacities and our physical bodies (with the themes of Markab and Scheat) so as to become light enough to work with refined energies, to lift ourselves above the dramatics of human life.

Algenib brings attention to the subtleties of working with our personal energies and how fine tuning our psycho-emotional capacities, especially in the dream state and working with the dream body or Ka double, is essential to become able to fly beyond human limitation. Algenib asks us to look at our density and to lighten up physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.

Algenib may indicate issues with air and issues pertaining to breath or the purity of what is brought into the lungs. Living in smog and smoke will keep a fog upon the aura maintaining self-delusion, the inability to see clearly. Oxygen deprivation to the cells will keep the nutrients within the cells of the body from igniting into the refined forces of light necessary to bring illumination into the structure of consciousness, the DNA. Algenib is of the breath, of oxygenating the waters of life, of the life giving air necessary for us to breathe in the thrashing waters around us.

Algenib can indicate the need to physically lift ourselves above our human experience to see the way clearly, to removed ourselves from the reaches of any entrapping human dramatics. Algenib may simply indicate the need to lift self up and out of a situation to gain a clearer view--what ever it takes to get above it all--to fly.

Disseminating Moon Phase Characteristics

Manifestation & Demonstration

The Pleiades M45

The Pleiades M45

The Seven Sisters, also known as the Pleiades star cluster, seem to float on a bed of feathers in a new infrared image from NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope. Clouds of dust sweep around the stars, swaddling them in a cushiony veil.

The star cluster was born when dinosaurs still roamed the Earth, about 100 million years ago. It is significantly younger than our 5-billion-year-old sun. The brightest members of the cluster, also the highest-mass stars, are known in Greek mythology as two parents, Atlas and Pleione, and their seven daughters, Alcyone, Electra, Maia, Merope, Taygeta, Celaeno and Asterope. There are thousands of additional lower-mass members, including many stars like our sun.

The 19th-century poet Alfred Lord Tennyson described them as "glittering like a swarm of fireflies tangled in a silver braid." The new infrared image from Spitzer highlights the "tangled silver braid" mentioned in the poem by Tennyson. This spider-web-like network of filaments, colored yellow, green and red in this view, is made up of dust associated with the cloud through which the cluster is traveling. The densest portion of the cloud appears in yellow and red, and the more diffuse outskirts are shown in green hues. One of the parent stars, Atlas, can be seen at the bottom, while six of the sisters are visible at top. Additional stars in the cluster are sprinkled throughout the picture in blue.

This image is made up of data taken by Spitzer's multiband imaging photometer and its infrared array camera. Light with a wavelength of 4.5 microns is blue; light of 8 microns is green; and light of 24 microns is red.

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift. The Disseminating Moon occurs on October 7 in early sidereal Taurus and conjoins the Pleiades.

Sidereal Taurus is of Earthy matters: of building, business, construction, the home and family, property, stability and balance, is fixed in its ways, is industrious, persistence, determined, laborious and of the bourgeois. Earlier Taurus is of initiative, it is creative and supports the seeding of ideas. Thus, our manifesting Moon brings our attention to the personal, to home, family and business.

The Pleiades impart an initiating quality, that of seeding, of getting things going, of initiating action in the physical and business world specifically to manifest the "Vision of Aldebaran"--the establishment of the administrative and physical logistics that support our personal lives. In classical astrology, certain alignments with the Pleiades can indicate catastrophic events or blunderings--a part of the nebulosity surrounding the Pleiades obscuring vision, and nature of involvement in the Earthian world.

The Sun and Haumea

The Sun conjoins Haumea on October 8-9. This means Haumea is on the far side of the Sun, producing the Earth-Sun-Haumea alignment. Much like a Full Moon in a lunar cycle, this marks the mid-point of vision and realization of the current Earth-Haumea synodic cycle, which began in early April 2009, a compounded synodic cycle with Venus presented in the March 26, 2009 Lunar Planner.

We have little verified information on Haumea's astrological influence (like Makemake). However, based upon an exploration of Haumea's orbital parameters, is discovery and mythology, I suggested that Haumea's propensity is to intercede with dynamic motion from a state of equilibrium and poise to support a new birth in consciousness. Haumea also appears to motivate action to reorient world powers' militaristic destructive use of power and resources into a nurturing force that supports and protects life, home and family; and that aids humanity's emergence into a spiritually and primordial aware state of being. At a personal level, Haumea inspires the application of our personal attributes and resources for the same principles. Again I emphasize that we can ascertain Haumea's actual astrological influence only through astrological research over time. This Sun-Haumea alignment provides another good opportunity to help in this process. We can do this by observing our realizations and observations on this day (October 8) and to correlate them with the "suggested" nature of Haumea and with the "suggested" theme of the current Earth-Haumea synodic cycle. Everyone is welcome to post their observations in the Lunar Planner Forum, in the sub-forum: New Planets, Asteroids & Comets.

More about Haumea.

Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Time for Change

V838 Monocerotis

V838 Monocerotis: In January 2002, a deceptively ordinary star suddenly flashed to at least 4,000 times its previous brightness. For several weeks, the red supergiant star was the most brilliant star in the Milky Way.

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on October 11 in sidereal Gemini. The Moon conjoins Wasat of Gemini. Also of influence is Castor of Gemini; Muliphen (Mirza) of Canis Major, Delta Monoceris, and V838 Monoceris. Our Last Quarter Moon's inner stimulus to change motivates the themes of these stars:

Wasat, the umbilical cord, embodies significant dynamic of sidereal Gemini--the Twins. Wasat is the link and liaison that unites and acts as a catalyst. Wasat brings the logistical pieces together. Wasat is of planning, coordination, assemblage of diversity into a workable functional model; the mechanics of creating the means in physical logistics. Castor of the twins and associated Wasat is the engineer, the technician, the artist, the constructor, and coordinator.

Muliphen (Mirza) of Canis Major inspiring people, partners, and soul mates that have disappeared or withdrawn to re-emerge as a steady and dependable presence. Also conjoining is Delta Monoceris, a star of the Unicorn, inviting us to embrace the unique gifts and talents of all participants.

Juno & Uranus

Juno and Uranus make the last of their three conjunctions on October 12, 2009. Juno began its significant role in the 2008-2011 timeline in May of 2009 (opposing Saturn and Makemake; conjoining Uranus; and squaring Pluto) creating a restructuring period for relationships and partnerships of all types. In the midst of Juno's retrograde and Uranus conjunctions, the new Juno Uranus synod occurred. Juno's influence and changes for relationships are far from over. From here, Juno will oppose Makemake in early December; and then at years end Juno, Pluto and Saturn will form a potent grand finale T-square for a few days. The T-square will be triggered by the Moon, which will form a Grand Square in the early hours of Dec 31, 2009. The Juno-Uranus conjunction occurring now fully engages the new 4.5-year Juno-Uranus synodic cycle theme.

Jupiter Direct

Mercury conjoins Pallas and Venus conjoins Saturn as Jupiter stations to return direct on October 12-13. Jupiter's mobilizing and expansive force again engages. Jupiter will soon conjoin Chiron and Neptune for the last time fully engaging the new Jupiter-Chiron-Neptune 12.7-year synodic cycle theme, as Jupiter makes its way to join Uranus in the 2008-2011 timeline involving Uranus, Makemake, Saturn, and Pluto.

Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics

Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Balsamic Moon occurs on October 14 in sidereal Leo and conjoins Alpha Sextans; the Vela X-1 Neutron Star Black Hole in Argo Navis; and Thuban of northern Draco. We are now through "the turning" in the 2008-2011 timeline and are off on a new tack in our journeys in life.

Alpha Sextans inspires us to get our bearings, to reorient ourselves, and to plot our courses for the next leg of our journeys. On a greater scale, this can be in regard to changing allegiance from diversionary forces or currents in the world around us and to re-align to a new level of integrity and our inner soul / source directive and truth. On a mundane level this can be in regard to changing our fundamental approach or path in life, to establish our position so we can plot or take a new tack toward our goals.

Thuban, in the far northern heavens, was Earth’s pole star circa 2600 BC near the "tear of the Bear," a point in Earth’s ~25,000-year "evolutionary cycle of the soul" at which a turning and fractioning occurred in the hierarchical powers governing Earth. This dramatized the separation between those choosing to fight for a greater evolutionary vision and those wanting to maintain totalitarian control of the Earth with their antics to do so.

Alignments with Thuban indicate a responsibility for having altered the direction of evolutionary affairs for life on Earth in a negative way with repercussions incurred at soul level, and with responsibility to ensure evolutionary fulfillment now. Thuban is not about the punctual moment, but more about the backdrop, the durative time-stream in which we find ourselves. Thuban's eminence in our celestial sphere demands we take responsibility for our past-future experience throughout our sojourn on Earth, especially for the destructive or disrupting use of force.

Conjoining Thuban from the southern heavens is Vela X-1, a potent neutron star in the sail of the Argo that creates a relentless wind driving us to respond to life. It engages us to participate in creating our long-term evolutionary destiny. In typical black hole fashion, this is an all or nothing deal, as that which we set in course now affects the nature of our evolutionary future. If we take no stance we are merely destined to chance and blown in the forever changing winds of evolutionary time.

The Sidereal Return

The "sidereal return of the Moon" (when the Moon returns to the location of the original New Moon) occurs on October 15-16. (The Lunar sidereal return always occurs in the Balsamic Lunar Phase.) This is when the experience of the lunar cycle is assimilated into our cerebral cortex and amalgamated with our total human memory matrix--adding to our growth. The Sidereal Return can be considered the formal close of the lunar cycle.

Over the few days leading into the next New Moon, in finale, the Moon conjoins Makemake, Saturn, Venus, Pallas and Mercury. Our next New Moon occurs on October 17-18 in the last degree of sidereal Virgo, conjoining Spica of Virgo and Archturus of Bootes. More to come then.

Everyone is welcome to comment about their experiences as they
