& Passageways of Change

The Lunar Month of
December 5, 2010 - January 4, 2011

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

Lunar Cycle Overview

The New Moon of December 5 begins the last lunar cycle of 2010. Conjoining the Centaur Pholus, the New Moon resides in sidereal Scorpio and the constellation of Ophiuchus. It conjoins Sarin, the shoulder of Hercules and Restaban of Draco, eye of the Dragon. This area of the zodiak is about self mastery and being personally responsible for our freedom and well-being, and aiding others in their pursuit of the same.

Several events occur in this lunar cycle, including a Mercury Retrograde and the start of a new 116-day Earth Mercury synodic cycle, with a theme defined by the stars in early sidereal Gemini. Juno, asteroid of colleagues, partnerships and mutual cooperation, opposes Jupiter and Uranus, which are about to make their final conjunction on the following New Moon. Juno will also conjoin Makemake, one of our newly discovered planets, bringing attention to the administration of resources in partnerships.

The Full Moon, occurring on the December 21, 2010 Solstice, produces a Total Lunar Eclipse in early sidereal Gemini, on the "Gate of Man" of Earth's Precessional Cross; conjoining Betelgeuse of Orion and Menkalinan of Auriga. The eclipse is visible throughout North America and western South America. Our Solstice Full Moon Eclipse also creates a dynamic Grand Square with Juno opposite Jupiter-Uranus. The entire Solstice Grand Square Total Eclipse Full Moon creates a primary activation of Earth's Precessional Cross--our sacred geometry of evolutionary change. This produces a dynamic and potent passageway--a challenge for radical action to change and shift into a new octave of experience--especially regarding relationships and partnerships of all types.

A Total Lunar Ecipse occuring on the December Solstice is a rare event. Dr Tony Philips of NASA determinied that the last December Solstice Total Lunar Elclipse occured in 1378.

These are just a few of many events occurring in this lunar cycle. The Monthly Lunar Planner explores the details of these events and more, the underlying cycles upon which we evolve and which guide our daily lives--based in star-level astronomical astrology and synodic astrology.

"The stars would not be in the heavens if we were meant to walk in darkness."

About Synodic Cycles

Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.

New Moon Phase Characteristics

The New Moon Lunar Theme

Our December 5, 2010 New Moon occurs in sidereal Scorpio and is in the constellation of Ophiuchus. It conjoins the Centaur Pholus. Pholus is the second most important of the Centaurs after Chiron, hence the name given to the second Centaur discovered. Just as Chiron embraces the orbits of Saturn and Uranus and is consider a key or bridge between the two planets due to their harmonic orbital resonances, Pholus' aphelion also synchronizes with Saturn's orbit, but it extends beyond the orbit of Uranus, crosses that of Neptune, and harmonically resonates with Orcus's orbit--Pluto's compliment. Pholus thus links the realms of Saturn and Orcus while passing through Uranus and Neptune.

As the story goes, Heracles was visiting Pholus, considered a wise and gentle Centaur, in his cave on Mt. Pelion. After coercing Pholus to open a sacred vessel of wine he was keeping for the other Centaurs, the rest of the Centaurs became angry and arrived to Pholus' cave. Heracles accidently hits Chiron with a poisoned arrow while shooting at the angry Centaurs. When Pholus finds Chiron dead from a mere arrow, he removes one of the arrows from a Centaur to see what made the Centaur die, and accidently allows its poisoned tip to puncture himself, which also kills Pholus.

Based upon the myth of Pholus along with its orbital cross-resonances with Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Orcus and Pluto, Pholus may offer aid, through unexpected events or agents that help us to make passage through any veils or illusions to fulfill our greater life purpose or soul oath. Pholus can bring mysterious events to help catalyze our personal metamorphosis or make radical change. More about Centaurs and Pholus.

Our New Moon bisects the body of Ophiuchus and nests between his legs, which extend across the ecliptic and stand over the Scorpion. Ophiuchus is the thirteenth ecliptical constellation because is crosses the ecliptic plane, and of course lies in the sign of sidereal Scorpio.

Ophiuchus lies above and on the ecliptic, standing over the Scorpion, which swings quite south of the ecliptic under the feet of Ophiuchus. Antares, heart of the Scorpion, defines the center of the sidereal sign of Scorpio, the Serpent Point, and embodies the essence of the Scorpio constellation. Antares lies below the ecliptic as well, in the body of the Scorpion. Because Ophiuchus actually crosses the ecliptic, it is the thirteenth ecliptical constellation, but it lies in the sidereal sign of Scorpio.

In our stellar image, Ophiuchus stands confidently holding the serpent (Serpentis) coiled around his body. The neck and head of the serpent point toward the Northern Crown (Corona Borealis), which lies above the Chelae (claws) of the Scorpion. In Greek myth, Aesculapius (Aesclepius or Asculapius) the mediciner of the ship Argo, is also imaged as Ophiuchus, knowledgeable of advanced healing processes beyond the cycle of life and death. Aesculapius is the Greek version of Imhotep of Dynastic Egypt. Imhotep is considered to be the father of medicine and author of a medical treatise (the Edwin Smith papyrus) thought to have been written about 1700 BC, but also believed to be a compilation of documents a thousand years older. Ophiuchus also articulates the theme embodied by the Christian resurrected Jesus (or Jeshu).

Scorpio New Moon Star Chart, December, 2010

Ophiuchus is knowledge holder over the raw creative forces governing life and death--one who has attained ascension from the lower-order forces that perpetuate our scenarios of (re-incarnational) entrapment. Ophiuchus is exemplar of one who has mastered the initiatory forces of life and who has brought the interplay of these forces to a greater spiritual fulfillment. The neck (Unukalhai) and head of the snake embody the essence and wisdom of living true to soul, in one's true self-mastery--as a Christed (soul infused) being of light.

The astronomical symbol of Ophiuchus is the caduceus--the entwined double serpent upon a staff--representing both the double helix of the DNA and the fully active and awakened kundalini rising along the spinal column.

Ophiuchus and the sidereal sign of Scorpio are associated with our education regarding the use of primal creative forces and raw creative power. The entire image of Ophiuchus standing upon the scorpion with this magnificent snake reaching for the North Crown represents claiming our self-mastery to attain evolutionary fulfillment beyond of the karmic-dharmic based reincarnational process of soul growth, the balancing of human experience in the polarity of duality. This is to become ascended in vibration, an illumined being free from perpetuated entrapment--literally the illumination of the double-banned lattice of the DNA (the urn of the soul) into the one radiant spiral of light. This is to live in a unified awareness beyond the entrapments inherent to a limited perception of a dualistic world.

Our New Moon conjoins Sarin, the shoulder of Hercules; Restaban of Draco, eye of the Dragon; Beta Triangulum Australis; and Alpha Apus, the Bird of Paradise.

Hercules stands upside down in the northern Heavens, north above Ophiuchus, with his feet (foundation) in the celestial dome (seven Heavens), in the realm of the gods, and with his head and hands at work in the realm of humankind aiding those in the incarnate world struggling to claim their freedom from perpetuated mortal entrapment.

Ras Algethi is the lucida (brightest star) of this constellation and marks the head of Hercules. Ras Algethi embodies the wisdom of Hercules (derived partly from his heavenly heritage and partly from his challenging Earthian experience) and contributes significantly to the Ophiuchus / Scorpio theme. Hercules is one seeded from another realm but who is intimately aware of the human dilemma, the struggle and its cause (the alchemical amalgamation of those from the heavens with those of the Earth). His beauty and intelligence he gains from Alcmene his mother and his wisdom of evolutionary matters along with his shrewd sagacity he gains from Zeus his father. The motivation behind his undaunted and bold actions expresses from experiencing the human struggle and knowing the heavenly freedom possible. His presence upon the incarnational plane is of a service capacity, a mission of evolutionary proportion--to ensure our evolutionary freedom both personally and for all souls on Earth.

Sarin, the shoulder of Hercules, along with Kornephoros, is of strength and responsibility to aid others in their pursuit for freedom. Both Ras Algethi and Sarin lie over Ophiuchus, the illumined one who stands in self-mastery upon the Scorpion. Hercules helps and teaches others to claim their self-mastery and freedom from the dominion of others and from false beliefs placed upon them. It is though helping others that we help ourselves.

Restaban (Beta) and Etamin (Gamma) of Draco create the eyes of the Dragon. Draco is the constellation that encircles and guards the northern pole of our ecliptic. Both stars are of a high administrative order overseeing the initiations of the incarnate soul. They lie north of and express through Hercules and Ophiuchus. Restaban expresses between the Head of Hercules (Ras Algethi) and the Heart of the Scorpion (Antares) into sidereal Scorpio. Etamin expresses just into sidereal Sagittarius and oversees the heart center of our Galaxy (Galactic Center).

Restaban, overseeing the initiations and evolutionary progression occurring in this part of sidereal Scorpio, opens portals and pathways in the physical world for those who have truly embraced the initiations of life, who have aligned with the path of soul rather than the convenient path of personality gratification, and who demonstrate their self mastery and responsibility live true to self and in service to others, as our Hercules exemplifies--portals that are otherwise blocked to those of immature selfish intent or who are resistant to or in denial of the initiations of life.

Conjoining Restaban, from the very southern Heavens, is Alpha Apodis (Apus) the “Bird of Paradise” known for its brilliant plumage and elongated tail feathers, birds believed to be visitors from Paradise--Hercules’ true home. Apus is the swift messenger bringing news from another realm.

Thus our Pholus New Moon theme suggests a passageway, one opening for those with true intent to aid others in the pursuit of freedom, made possible through an outside catalyst, perhaps a catalyst unseen, unexpected or mysteriously appearing. It invites us to apply our intent of purpose (see the last lunar cycle) for our greater freedom and well being, and for that of others. It is also about claiming our self-empowerment and our personal responsibility to walk through any portals or passageways at hand.

Also of influence is Ixion, a newly discovered minor planet, which closely conjoins Pholus. Ixion also conjoins Restaban and Ras Algethi, the head of Hercules. Although Ixion's role is yet to be fully apprehended and verified by the astrological community, Ixion's diverse mythological theme may bring attention to issues surrounding taking responsibility for our more unconscious actions driven from self-interest and their karmic repercussions. More about Ixion.

The Moon conjoins Pholus, Ixion and Quaoar (all in sidereal Scorpio) immediately following the New Moon. The Sun conjoins the three during the first quarter of this lunar cycle, thus engaging in a potent and significant current in our lunar cycle.

Uranus Direct

Uranus & the Rings of Uranus

Uranus - NASA

Uranus completes its retrograde about ten hours after the New Moon, also significantly contributing to our New Moon impetus. Uranus' direct station fully engages the new 370-day Earth-Uranus synodic cycle, which began on September 21; and which was a part of the Earth-Jupiter-Uranus Synodic Synchronization.

Jupiter recently returned direct along with venus in the previous lunar cycle. Jupiter and Uranus now approach their third and final conjunction (occurring on the following New Moon of January 4, 2011. Jupiter and Uranus' direct movement and their upcoming and final conjunction should provide a sense of movement and expansion of the radical changes already occurring in our lives--for the better. It also engages and mobilizes the new 13-year Jupiter-Uranus synodic cycle, which also started on the September 2010 Earth-Jupiter-Uranus Synodic Synchronization--presented in the September 8, 2010 Lunar Planner, and in the 2008-2011 Timeline article.

Uranus' station occurring on the New Moon may also provide a wonderful opening to attune to a non-conforming, alternative-thinking personal lunar theme.

Uranus bio-Harmonic Audio Meditation

For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, the first few days surrounding the New Moon is an ideal time to work with the Uranus audio meditation. Crescent Moon Phase Characteristics

The Crescent Moon
Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon of December 9 reside in early sidereal Capricorn and conjoins Altair and Alshain of Aquila the Eagle. This is also the location of Haumea's south node.

Aquila, the northern Eagle, perched high above the Earth, is of removed stillness and astute observation; is of equilibrium and poise, with global vision and local purpose. As Eagle sits high upon its perch, with eyes capable of focusing on the most minute detail (conjoining Microscopium), it assesses, examines, and awaits its opportunity. Removed and alone, Eagle embodies the willingness to examine our deepest emotions and hidden but true feelings; to pin-point our objectives from objective balance, and to then dive into the world with surety and boldness.

Altair, eye of the eagle, and Alshain, Beta Aquila, are of global and extraterrestrial vision; of strategic locations to achieve our purpose, also of military sites as well as Earth's sacred sites. Altair inspires us to perceive from a global, even extraterrestrial perspective; and not merely from a local, isolated view, but with a focus of precision detail. In classical astrology, Altair is of assertive authoritarian militaristic leadership, of military force and power. Friend and siderealist Andrés Takra adds: "Altair has been associated with kings, emperors, conquerors, tyrants, politicians, but also with mystics, occultists, and wise spiritual hierophants of mystery-religions…."

Also conjoining is Algedi of Capricorn and GRB 100621A in Indus. Algedi is of covert and secret places: caves, spiritual or exclusive retreats and sanctuaries--isolated places with a spiritual focus--sacred sites or our places of power. Algedi is also of places of unique purpose: scientific or medical centers, even military / extraterrestrial bases or outposts. Although such places may seem to be isolated, lying helter-skelter upon the Earth, they are strategically and naturally distributed upon Earth’s energy grid. That which occurs at these locations is of significance in the greater evolutionary process for all souls and for the Earth herself because the energy at these points radiates throughout the Earth's energy matrix. Algedi can also be of covert operations, manipulative maneuvers, and all that is secret or hidden behind the scenes. Algedi specifically brings attention to the importance of our personal locations (bases/domiciles)--the resonance of which influences greatly the nature of our experience and the fulfillment of our pursuits.

Indus, classically the desert Persian, is the native indigenous person, much like the Native American, the Aboriginal, the Desert Arab, or the Mountain Shaman--sometimes ornately dressed or adorned, and sometimes totally inconspicuous and unassuming. Indus articulates the steward of a special place, a keeper of sacred knowledge and sacred ways. GRB is a recent Gamma Ray Burst that occurred from the heart of Indus--a message to humanity. See Forum posts about GRB 100621A for more info.

Our Crescent Moon inspires us to explore how we can apply our personal arsenal of creative tools in the world--with embracing vision and focused deliberate action. It also brings attention to our strategies for achieving our goals as well as the importance of our placement (location) in the world for that which we pursue.

Juno and Relationships

The asteroid Juno, on the cusp of sidereal Virgo, makes its opposition to Jupiter just after the Crescent Moon, on December 9. Juno will then oppose Uranus just before the Full Moon; and will conjoin Makemake just after the Disseminating Moon, on December 27. Juno's Jupiter-Uranus opposition may bring insight and perspective on potential radical changes we may need to make in our relations and partnerships.

Juno, goddess of love, is the asteroid of covenant relationships, soul colleagues, and true lovers. In the astrological chart, Juno indicates the nature of the issues and opportunities in significant relations of all sorts: those that are of a personal nature to those of political leaders and nations of the world. Mature Juno is diplomatic, tactful, cooperative, and mutually trusting. Mature Juno expresses with a sense of equality within self that provides the ability to draw true partners and those of equality into one's life. There is an acceptance of another's truth or opinion without need to challenge or debate. There is an ability to honor and support others in their own choices and decisions. Mature Juno expresses self-confidence in humbleness and without defense. Immature Juno can express as superiority / inferiority complexes, competitiveness, defensiveness, lack of self confidence, arrogance, judgment and contentious power struggles. More about Juno.

Mercury Retrograde

Mercury begins its retrograde on December 10 and is sextile to Venus--often a key trigger point in financial turnings. Mercury will complete its retrograde on December 30, toward the end of this lunar cycle. Earth and Mercury will begin their new 116-day synodic cycle in the midst of the retrograde just before the Full Moon.

The Geminid Metor Shower - Dec 13-14

The annual Geminid meteor shower peaks this year on Dec. 13th and 14th.The Geminids eminate from 3200 Phaethon as Earth passes through its dusty debris. The Geminids produce the most massive meteor show of the year. About 120 meteors per hour are expected under dark-skies. The best time to view is late in the evening on Dec. 14th through sunrise. The constelation Gemini will be overhead around 2 AM local time.

First Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

First Quarter Moon
Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on December 13 in late sidereal Aquarius, just 2° to Jupiter. The Sun conjoins Quaoar in sidereal Scorpio.

The Moon lies in "The Circlet" of stars which lie across the cusp of sidereal Pisces and which form the head of the southern fish. Also conjoining is Beta Reticuli in the very southern heavens; Markab of Pegasus; and the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 7469, also in Pegasus.

Markab, Alpha Pegasus, the primary star of Pegasus, is the first of four very principal stars creating the Great Square of Pegasus. The principles and qualities embodied in each of these four stars reveal the requirements for our psycho-physiological preparation to become free from the bounds limiting us from participating in a more fulfilling and purposeful expression in the world. This "refinement of self" allows us to rise above the bounds of the psychic-emotional entrapments common to collective human consciousness in accomplishment of soul's greater mission. These four stars have long been associated with the feet of a table or stand, thus a supporting foundation or stage upon which something else transpires, is supported, or rises from.

Markab is the saddle or the physical vehicle upon which soul rides or through which soul expresses: literally the corporeal physical body. Markab brings attention to the physical condition of our bodies at the genetic and cellular level. Markab is the vehicle through which soul accomplishes its greater mission--the physical cellular aspect of the Merkabah, one's body of light. Markab not only brings attention to our physical body and its health--the body being the temple / vessel of the soul--but to the physical aspects of our lives and of our relations, how we interrelate in our human physicality. This includes the physical means or forms through which we participate in life from the professional structures that make our nourishment possible, especially the functional aspects of humanitarian-focused organizations, to the physical logistics of our personal lives. Markab asks us to honor the physical needs of the human body and to fully embrace the physical aspects of our lives.

NGC 7469 Pegaus - This is a stunning pair of interacting galaxies, the barred spiral Seyfert 1 galaxy NGC 7469 (Arp 298, Mrk 1514), a luminous infrared source with a powerful starburst deeply embedded into its circumnuclear region, and its smaller companion IC 5283. This system is located about 200 million light-years away from Earth in the constellation of Pegasus, the Winged Horse. - Credit: NASA, ESA, the Hubble Heritage (STScI/AURA)-ESA/Hubble Collaboration, and A. Evans (University of Virginia, Charlottesville/NRAO/Stony Brook University)

The Seyfert Galaxy NGC 7469, also in Pegasus, is an explosive force that provides an intense inner drive to find a solution to the address our physical needs, to breakthrough the apparent paradoxes in our lives.

Also conjoining Markab and the head of the fish is Beta Reticuli. Alpha and Beta Reticuli embody the purer aspects of the reticule--the ability to see things where they truly are in the greater evolutionary context--providing holographic awareness literally in the DNA--to allow the soul to manifest and express in its undistorted perfection. Alpha is the foci of the Reticule and is the sacred geometry of the DNA refined to crystal clarity. Beta Reticuli embodies the science of genetics, the administration of genetic refinement, and inspires us to take action to ensure we are physically, emotionally and mentally clear for the expression of our greatest potential.

The Moon's near conjunction with Jupiter and 90° separation from the Sun-Quaoar conjunction can stimulate mobilizing and expansive action that is attuned to Earth, and nature's cycles. Our motivation to action may come in the form of emotional and physical experience.

Quaoar (pronounced kwah-whar), discovered in 2002. Quaoar seems to have character supporting a "harmonious revolution"-- to help us release and surrender to the natural order of the creative forces governing life and death. In addition, Quaoar may inspire our return to the "sacredness of life"; to realize all things in life are sacred and that it is our responsibility to have respect for natural order and to live in harmony with the meandering and ever-changeing currents of the natural world. More about Quaoar.

The Sun moves into sidereal Sagittarius on December 16-17, just before the Gibbous Moon.

Gibbous Moon Phase Characteristics

The Gibbous Moon
Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

The Gibbous Moon occurs on December 17 in mid-sidereal Aries. The Moon conjoins Kaffaljidhma of Cetus; and Achird, Eta Cassiopeia.

Kaffaljidhma is the brain of the fear-instilling techno-bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. The brain of Cetus? Who is it that creates this central intelligencia? Many would like to blame the monster on every thing and every one outside of self, a victim mentality perpetuating our human condition and the entrapments we find ourselves in. However, the key phrase here is "human consciousness." This implies each of us is responsible for the collective consciousness we find ourselves in--the reality of our personal lives and that of our world we uphold by consensus.

Conjoining Kaffaljidhma is Achird, Eta Cassiopeia. Achird invites us to realize that we create and perpetuate the very things that we perceive as trying to detour or devour us. Achird brings attention to the fact that the monsters and the entrapments in which we find ourselves become manifest by our own righteous and arrogant attitudes of self-importance.

A message common to this area of initiatory Aries is that we need to be the intelligence responsible for our own human condition, lest we will not move forward to create a new world, but will continue to burn in the digestive juices of the old paradigm.

The Earth-Mercury Synodic Cycle

Earth and Mercury begin a new 116-day synodic cycle on December 19-20. The Sun and retrograde Mercury reside in early sidereal Sagittarius conjoining Galactic Centre. The synod is defined looking from the Sun toward the Mercury-Earth alignment, which lies in early sidereal Gemini. Thus the stars here reveal the new synodic cycle's theme. Mercury's previous synodic theme (in mid-sidereal Aquarius) was presented in the August 10, 2010 Lunar Planner.

The Surface of Mercury - NASA

The Surface of Mercury - NASA

The Earth-Mercury synod conjoins Wezn, Beta Columba and the Machine X-ray source (PKS 0548-322) also in Columba the Dove. Flanking are the northern Quasar 3C147 of Auriga; Polaris of Ursa Minor; and Saiph and Betelgeuse of Orion. The Machine and Wezn, Beta Columba reside at ~2° sidereal Gemini, directly opposite Galactic Centre.

The Machine, is a high-energy dynamic x-ray source; a BL Lacertae type object, which emit through a wide band of electromagnetic spectrum, from radio to gamma-rays but with an almost complete absence of emissions in the optical band. Appropriately named, the Machine articulates the essence of the human cognitive mind, the intellect, which processes logistical related matters for humankind, the bio-logical process itself--in contrast to Galactic Center's essence, that of cosmic mind. As the genesis point of the human mind, the Machine's intense dynamic core excites high-mental creative communication; and Quasar 3C147, which marks the head of Auriga the Charioteer, inspires unconventional thought amongst colleagues, both of which produce new ideas that can move us forward into the future (Wezn of the Dove). Saiph of Orion inspires action upon this theme--moving from a drawn-out stalemate mentality (horns of the Bull) to one of opportunistic solution in physical action.

Betelgeuse, a nearby star adds a significant emphasis. Betelgeuse marks Orion's right shoulder, from which he holds the upraised sword just under the gate of Man. Betelgeuse embodies the theme of a male warrior, is of a kingly nature, authoritative and is of human resourcefulness in action. Betelgeuse inspires a sense of responsibility to dynamically response to whatever is occurring in the moment. Betelgeuse will challenge existing systems or authorities to cut through whatever is in the way of solution. Physical constructive response is the hallmark of Betelgeuse.

Also articulating the nature of this few degree band of the zodiak is Menkalinan, the right shoulder of Auriga the Charioteer, which conjoins Betelgeuse and the "Gate of Man." Menkalinan motivates mutual support amongst colleagues with a responsibility to assist each other in the world of daily human affairs. Menkalinan is also a polarizer that will show indecision by bringing experience of the opposite side of an issue to make clear the choices and to reveal one's hesitancy to respond to life in the moment. Menkalinan helps to cut through any confusion, to make things plain and clear.

Mercury is clearly at home in this area of the zodiak and thus should stimulate a strong and dynamic synodic cycle supportive of dynamic action in mutual cooperation designed for solution. This new synodic theme will fully engage after Mercury's direct station and in the following lunar cycle.

Full Moon Phase Characteristics

The Full Moon - Total Lunar Eclipse
Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

Hubble's Sharpest View of the Orion Nebula

Hubble's Sharpest View of the Orion Nebula - Image Credit: NASA,ESA, M. Robberto (Space Telescope Science Institute/ESA) and the Hubble Space Telescope Orion Treasury Project Team

The Full Moon occurs on December 21, just hours before Solstice, in early sidereal Gemini and on the Gate of Man of Earth's Precessional Holy Cross. The Moon near the Lunar South Node produces a Total Lunar Eclipse--visible throughout North America and western South America. The zenith lies just of the coast of southern California and Baja Mexico.

Eclipse Map, Times and Info.

Full Moon Eclipse: Dec 21: 8:13:27 GMT
Solstice: Dec 21: 23:38:28 GMT

Juno opposes Uranus an hour and one half before the Full Moon Eclipse, adding a significant dynamic to our Full Moon eve. In addition, the Sun and the asteroid Pallas (along with Mercury, the Lunar North Node, Pluto and Mars) lie opposite the Moon and the Lunar South Node; and this axis creates a Grand Square with Juno opposite Jupiter and Uranus. The entire Solstice Grand Square Total Eclipse Full Moon, with the Moon on the Gate of Man of Earth's Precessional Cross, creates a primary activation of the precessional cross--our sacred geometry of evolutionary change. This produces a dynamic and potent passageway--a challenge for radical action to change--especially in relationships of all sorts.

The Sun-Pallas alignment marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Pallas synodic cycle that began on May 4, 2010. The theme of this synodic cycle was presented in the April 14, 2010 Lunar Planner. The Sun-Pallas part of this Grand Square, and the realizations we have on our Full Moon, adds a significant dynamic regarding any changes we may be making in our relationships. In its lower octave and for the less emotionally mature, it may express as spiteful and judgmental side-taking to validate any need to change. In its higher octave, and for the more emotionally mature, it provides tremendous opportunity for the application of artistic creative intelligence in support of partnerships to enter into a new octave of experience and creative co-participation. Any changes being made in partnerships may involve long-standing, even karmic, patterns of participation.

The Full Moon Eclipse nearly conjoins the same stars as our new Mercury synodic cycle (discussed above), although with more emphasis on Betelgeuse of Orion and Menkalinan of Auriga, which mark the "Gate of Man" at 5° sidereal Gemini--dynamic resourceful action amongst colleagues with the ability to strategically respond in the moment.

A New Birth

The December Solstice is the astronomical New Year. This is when Earth is at a location in its orbit around the Sun where Earth's north pole is tilted furthest from the Sun. At this time, the direct line of sight to the Sun is at its closest point in Earth's southern hemisphere (creating mid-summer for our southern friends). Although mid-year for those in the southern hemisphere, it is mid-winter in the northern hemisphere. Either way, for Earth, this is like a new breath beginning, when the solar fire begins to move upward through the polar backbone of Earth and her magnetic field, igniting Earth's kundalini, marking the start of another orbital cycle around the Sun.

A Total Lunar Ecipse occuring on the December Solstice is a rare event. Dr Tony Philips of NASA determinied that the last December Solstice Total Lunar Elclipse occured in 1378. Lunar eclipses tend to be about releasing the emotional bonds within ourselves that reach out and glue us to involvements that are less than we truly want or deserve. They are about the emotional and experiential aspects of our relations with others and with the world--how we feel about and palpate life. Lunar eclipses provide opportunity for an emotional release, a fresh start.

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.

The Disseminating Moon occurs on December 24 in sidereal Cancer. The Moon conjoins Merak, the Beta star of Ursa Major; Naos of Argo Navis; and lies between the longitudes of Dubhe, Alpha Ursa Major and Algenubi, eye of the Lion.

This is a progressive area of of sidereal Cancer, stimulating emergence and action to break trail in pursuit of a greater vision. Adventurism, exploration, breaking new trail, to go where we have not gone before, to get on with it--to engage, are all themes here. These are actions that require the courage of self-conviction, of belief in self, and in our paths in life; to have the inner confidence to step away from the convention of mass consensus and beyond the boundaries of known self.

Dubhe and Algenubi articulate the underlying context of this few degree are of the zodiak. Dubhe embodies the pursuit for a greater vision beyond the accepted political-religious dogmas of the human world that keep humanity in darkness and delusion; and against the controlling global forces perpetuating that dogmatic rule. At a personal level, Dubhe asks us to do all we can to achieve the greater vision that we hold for the unfoldment of our lives--for the true nourishment, fulfillment, and freedom we seek. Dubhe asks us to emerge from the collective and our own personal dogmas (our belief structures) and our limiting life patterns that keep us bound in life scenarios that are less than those we truly want. Dubhe supports us to strive for a new and better future rather than merely staying reactive to the limitations we have already created and reinforce with our existing beliefs.

Algenubi, Eye of the Lion, best embodies the theme of this few degree band of the ecliptic. Algenubi is of "breaking trail." These are the explorers, pioneers, and adventurers with little interest or contentment to merely fit in with those performing on the worldly stage. They want to go beyond the norm in accomplishment and are undaunted in the face of perilous explorations, and they are proud to demonstrate it.

Also conjoining Algenubi (and Rasalas) is the hind-foot of the Great Bear composed of Tania Bor. and Tania Aus., which brings a strong sense of the power of conviction--that which propels us beyond our current, accepted stance in life, beyond what has been achieved before. This is a power point in the zodiak; a place to leave the comforts of our existing reality behind and to confidently surge into new and unexplored territory.

Dubhe (Alpha) and Merak, (Beta) of Ursa Major, expressing through later Cancer, manifest the integrous side of the Great Bear, and are the pointers to Earth’s current North Star, Polaris of the Little Bear, Ursa Minor--of bringing attention to and caring for the young, for future generations. Although in the sign of Cancer, this longitudinal band toward the end of sidereal Cancer is moving out of the area of the Scarab (or Crab) itself. Here we arrive to the deserted (desert) place (of peace) between the Scarab and the Lion. These stars are those of that which is oriented toward seeking a Greater Vision.

Merak, Beta Ursa Major, asks for allegiance of personal will with the greater vision of Dubhe--to see to a greater evolutionary fulfillment of the Earth. Merak inspires personal action and marks the time, "to get on with it."

Naos, Zeta Puppis of the Argo, is one star of five creating the "Egyptian X" along with Procyon, Betelgeuse, Phaet Alpha Columba the Dove; and with the center star being Sirius--our impetuous Great World Teacher. Naos is the brightest star of Puppis and one of the brightest in the sky. Naos is an evolved and dynamic supergiant star, and sole star moving at a vast speed--indicative of a wise and old but very active soul. On the aplustre of the stern of the Argo, Naos holds an elevated position ideal navigation. Naos can be considered our inner sanctum of the soul, and provides motivation to observer and act from our inner perceptual and intuitive awareness. Naos is a star of transcendent power and purpose behind or directing the mission of the soul. In general, the stars of the Argo are associated with greater evolutionary matters and ensuring our evolutionary fulfillment.

Juno and Makemake

The Moon conjoins Juno, asteroid of covenant relations and mutual respect, and newly discovered Makemake on December 27, just as Juno and Makemake conjoin; and just before our Last Quarter Moon--adding to our "inner need to change."

Makemake (pronounced MAH-keh MAH-keh - "e" is pronounced "ay" in Polynesian) is the Polynesian name for the creator god of humanity in the mythology of the South Pacific island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Based upon an exploration of Makemake's orbital parameters, Makemake seems to effect areas of life associated with the administration of economics, finance and money; and creating environmental conditions supportive of a healthy, prosperous and abundant life for all souls. Makemake has been in key aspect in the 2008 -2011 timeline of planetary aspects, and continues to do so as we emerge from this set of aspects in early 2011. See The 2008-2011 Timeline.

The Makemake-Juno synthesis may bring attention to issues regarding the administration of resources in partnerships; and this may be catalyst for our inner realizations to make changes in our lives as we enter the Last Quarter of this lunar cycle.

Last Quarter Moon Phase Characteristics

Last Quarter Moon
Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on December 27-28 and lies between Juno and Saturn in sidereal Virgo. The Moon conjoins Zaniah of Virgo, Turais and Phi Velorum of Argo Navis; Also of influence is Quasar 3C373 of Virgo; Ed Asich of northern Draco.

Zaniah, Eta Virgo, is an ecliptical star, less than 2° north in ecliptical latitude. Zaniah inspires the "right use of will" directed by soul-level impulses and unadulterated by personality or egoic-level influences. Zaniah is also the Chinese "Left-hand Maintainer of Law" (Allen). Zaniah is of Virgin purity--being a clear vessel to know right action--also a feminine quality.

In the southern heavens lies Turais Carina and Phi Velorum, both of Argo Navis, which lies along the galactic equator, and thus is more associated with our longer-term soul-level sojourn and our evolutionary course.

Turais (Aspidiske) of the Argo is a rather rare white supergiant star that shines with a luminosity of 4900 of our suns, with a radius estimated to be about 43 times that of our sun. "This Arabian name has led to some confusion regarding the nature of this star, even confused to be part of Puppis the stern of the Argo, but it lies along the gunwale in Carina, the hull of the Argo, under Velorum the sail." (Allen)

Phi Velorum and the adjoining Pulsar P 0950 reside exactly on the Galactic Equator in the Sail (Velorum) of the Argo. Pulsars in general are beacons for the soul, and in this case, inspiring our attunement to the evolutionary currents beyond our incarnational moment, those of the greater evolutionary process itself. P-0950 has a pulse rate of 1.436551 seconds, which is a frequency of 0.696111729 Hz. Raised a few octaves, this translates to an Alpha brain wave frequency of 11.1377...Hz; and this translates both to infrared and violet wavelengths in the light spectrum. Thus, P-0950 links energy currents occurring in the spiritual realm (crown chakra) with the very root / earth primordial response (Earth Chakra--about a foot below our feet). This pulsar reminds us that to receive our spiritual guidance we must be grounded--like any good antenna.

Galactic Turais and Phi Velorum puts ecliptical Zaniah's "right use of will" into a greater evolutionary context, one with cosmic ramifications that extend throughout spacetime. Our acts of will are not isolated, cut off and limited to the moment itself, but extend into the past-future time-stream of the soul influencing the continuous cosmic currents in soul's greater evolutionary journey in ways that are unseen in the action moment.

Turais asks us to extend our awareness into this time-stream, while Zaniah inspires clear action in the moment from soul's and nature's guiding influence. Thus each action moment is one punctual droplet of many composing a continuous time-stream that formulates the path or wave upon which soul travels. Turais invites us to recognize our actions extend into and influence not only the nature of our own lives, but also the lives of others, effecting the meandering currents in an ocean of being. They set up resonances in spacetime that define the nature of experiences yet to come for our selves and in the evolutionary journey of all involved.

This is not to be confused with attempting to be responsible for others or to define their experience--which is a miss-use of will. The responsibility is for our active and conscious participation from the clarity of our spiritual soul-level guidance expressed in action. Turais demands we act from the awareness of our greater evolutionary journey and adds a sense of "cosmic responsibility" for what is "put into motion" through Zaniah's "right use of will."

As far south as Turais, Ioto Argo is (~67° south ecliptical latitude), we find the Draconian Ed Asich, an Ioto designation as well just as far north (~71° north ecliptical latitude). Ed Asich, in the Dragon, is a fainter star and of far less significance, but none the less colouring the Zaniah / Turais theme. Ed Asich holds the quality of the male Hyaena--a carnivorous nocturne waiting around to eat what has been already killed by other means--laughing as it were, in this case about one's stupidity from not heeding their inner guidance. It is this stellar quality that can also taint this zodiakal longitude with a bit of a cowardice character--influencing one to ignore the messages expressing from the world around them--thus something to be attentive to.

Also worth mentioning is Quasar 3C273 of Virgo, which conjoins Turais and Phi Velorum. Quasars' (Quasi-Stellar-Radio-Source) multi-spectral emanations tend to stimulate an awareness that extends beyond or pierces our rather narrow band of visual perception, thereby offering new non-conforming possibilities of conceptual thought. They can express as images or non-conforming forms that can draw us into a transcendent perceptual exploration, which then motivates new behavior or a new expression fitting to our expanded awareness. In general, we might think of quasars as providing stimulus for alternative creative conception and expression.

Quasar 3C273 lies just above Zaniah and Porrima by 2 degrees in latitude and below Vindemiatrix by about 11 degrees. Quasar 3C273 principally expresses through Zaniah (right use of will), Porrima (fore-vision), and Vindemiatrix (attentiveness to timing), augmenting their qualities. This synthesis creates a perceptual time-warp that embraces more of spacetime than the current moment, in essence stretching our perception to embrace past-future time with the capacity to sense our distant past, and to see forward (as previews or fore-visions) to potentialities already precipitating in spacetime but which we have not yet arrived to in time. This Quasar's emanations can activate imagery and phenomena in the natural world--such as though birds flying or in other animal behavior, through sounds or sights in the world, through synchronicities in meetings with people and events, or through any other natural phenomena occurring in our daily lives.

We must be perceptually attentive to such imagery or messages and have implicit trust to act upon our impulses or the for-visions we see so we can meet opportunities already precipitating into manifestation that we may otherwise miss. The purpose of future vision or telepathic awareness is so we initiate action beforehand, in present time to ensure that we meet or are prepared for the precipitating events in timely fashion; or act in the present so we help may arrive to meeting in a timely fashion.

Mercury Direct

Mercury completes its retrograde on December 30, 2010, fully engaging the new new 116-day Mercury synodic cycle (presented above). Since this is the end of this lunar cycle, this new Mercurial theme will start to express more so in the following lunar cycle.

Balsamic Moon Phase Characteristics

Balsamic Moon
Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Balsamic Moon occurs on December 31 and conjoins Venus on the cusp of sidereal Scorpio. Venus synchronizes with both the Crescent Moon and the Balsamic Moon, when Venus is at is easter and western elongations (the furthest points from the Sun during Vcnus' orbit as seen from Earth; i.e. when Venus is the morning and evening star. See E-motions of the Heart. Venus, currently at its western elongation, can be seen with the Balsamic Moon just before sunrise in the eastern sky.

During these Venus-Moon coherencies, our attention is brought back to Matters of the Heart (all Venus related issues). Because these coherencies occur before the end of one Venus synodic cycle and after the start of the next, they emphasize the Venus synodic cycle transition. Our new Earth-Venus synodic cycle recently began on October 29, 2010, and was presented in the October 7, 2010 Lunar Planner.

The Venus Balsamic Moon, lying on the cusp of sidereal Scorpio, in the clutches of the Scorpion and facing the Scorpion's head. Venus, in the last couple degrees of sidereal Libra conjoins Unukalahi of Serpens; Alpha Lupus; and Beta Centauri. The Moon, on the Scorpio cusp, conjoins Beta Lupus; Zubenelakrab of Libra (Scorpio); Mu Serpens; and the Irregular Galaxy NGC 2915 of the Chameleon, the shapeshifter.

Early sidereal Scorpio teaches us how to graduate from the karmic clutches of naivete, from falling prey as victims to the entrapping forces around us, fighting in struggle to live, and to realize that we experience a wide dynamic of forces that mold our experience; and that it is up to us to claim our mastery in the midst of these forces.

The first few degrees of sidereal Scorpio, approaching the head of the Scorpion, resides in the domain the benevolent Centaur, who teaches the right way to live to attain our self-mastery in the physical world and subsequently to claim our freedom from entrapment in our antiquated patterns and life scenarios.

Here the theme of sacrifice and offerings arise, but sacrifice does not mean self-sacrifice, in the true sense of the word it means to give up a lower office for a higher office. When offering up the lesser (lesser modes of involvement or patterns of behavior), we are also faced with taking on a greater responsibility, moving from victim consciousness, where we feel powerless and merely acquiesce to the conditions of life in which we find ourselves--caught in the clutches of the Scorpion--to taking responsibility for our life scenarios and consciously choosing a life path that supports our experiential growth, our emotional and spiritual maturity, and our physical wellbeing and fulfillment.

The Centaurian training is not merely an intellectual understanding of these principles but is wisdom gained through an experiential journey moment-by-moment that leads us to true inner transmutation at a neurological level. Such wisdom results in the inner realization that makes self-mastery of the primal forces of life actualized and right action crystal clear. Here we learn to assemble the wisdom gained from our life experience as personal intent, and use that intent to mold the raw creative forces of life that define our experience.

Also conjoining from the southern heavens is Alpha Chamaeleon, generally a symbol of adaptability, change and new beginnings, the Chamaeleon articulates the ability to adjust to any situation, but not through subservience or acquiescence, but in mastery of self and with intuitive sensitivity and individuality.

Vesta & Pholus

The Moon conjoins the asteroid Vesta and the Centaur Pholus, just as Vesta and Pholus conjoin on January 1-2, 2011, bringing attention to our need for clarity of focus and conviction to utilize the mysterious and catalytic influences that Pholus may have provided in this lunar cycle.

Thus, the seed coalesces for this lunar cycle, which will sprout anew in the following lunar cycle. Our next New Moon occurs on January 4, 2011 in sidereal Sagittarius just as Jupiter and Uranus make their final conjunction in early sidereal Pisces.
