Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).
Our New Moon of September 27, 2011 occurs in sidereal Virgo and it conjoins Mercury, which is exalted (empowered) in Virgo. The New Moon and Mercury conjoin Zaniah of Virgo, Turais of Argo Navis, Beta Coma Berenices, and Theta Bootes. This area of the zodiak is about following our soul-level or spiritual guidance, living our inner truths, and to become one in thought, word and deed. This lunar cycle is productive and progressive. It is about communication and applying right action in the daily logistics of our lives in the now, moment-by-moment.
Venus joins already conjoining Juno, Haumea and Saturn, bringing its harmonizing, feminine, heart-felt and abundant energetic to the theme that has been unfolding over the last couple of months coalesced by Juno, Haumea and Saturn: impelling a "new birth in partnerships" to engage in new concretized expressions in the world. Mercury then follows, conjoining the three. Mercury stimulates the actualization of this new birth, living it in the daily logistics of our lives. It impels us to act in the now. The Sun then conjoins Haumea on the Full Moon, and then Saturn and Juno following the Full Moon, bringing illumination and realization about this new Juno-Haumea-Saturn theme in our lives.
Earth and Dwarf Planet Eris begin a new-year long synodic cycle in sidereal Pisces. Mars and Venus create a dynamic aspect with Saturn and Eris toward the end of the lunar cycle, just as Saturn and Eris form their potent opposition, which occurs on the following New Moon of October 26.
These are just a few of many events occurring in this lunar cycle. The Monthly Lunar Planner explores the details of these events and more--the underlying cycles upon which we evolve and which guide our daily lives--based in star-level astronomical astrology and synodic astrology.
"The stars would not be in the heavens if we were meant to walk in darkness."
About Synodic Cycles
Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.
Our Mercury-New Moon of September 27, 2011 in sidereal Virgo conjoins Zaniah of Virgo, Turais of Argo Navis, Beta Coma Berenices, and Theta Bootes.
Sidereal Virgo supports the preparation and purity of self for our greatest wellbeing and highest evolutionary attainment. On a mundane level, Virgo is of hard work; is health conscious and methodical in development and progress; it is of order, continuity, stability, new beginnings, cultivation, and harvest--the sign of agriculture. Virgo imparts a meticulous, organized, perfectionist and methodical nature. It also imparts a strong focus in communication and logistics, an intellectual expression, and is of being in service to others.
The Surface of Mercury
Mercury is an expressive and intellectual force. It drives our need to organize, rationalize, categorize, and assemble our world into a coherent understanding. It is the significator of the intellect. It governs our sequential and logistical processes, our learning and reasoning abilities, our mental focus and concentration, our language skills, reading and writing, and our communication skills, how we speak and articulate. Mercury effects some motor skills associated with coordination and dexterity; and governs the neurological system, mental processes and memory.

Zaniah, Eta Virgo, is our principal New Moon star. Zaniah is an ecliptical star, less than 2° north in ecliptical latitude. Zaniah is also the Chinese "Left-hand Maintainer of Law" (Allen). Zaniah inspires the "right use of will" directed by soul-level impulses and unadulterated by personality or egoic-level influences. Zaniah impels right action and participation in the here and now, moment-by-moment. Zaniah embodies the essence of the Virgin’s purityto become a clear vessel and to know right action. Zaniah imparts a feminine quality.
Coma Berenices (Berenice’s hair) stands alone in this area of the heavens, slightly north of and over early sidereal Virgo. The stars forming Coma Berenices are not necessarily connected to any surrounding constellations other than being associated with Virgo. Coma is home to the North Galactic Pole (NGP) and our Super Galactic Center (SGC), both of which reside a bit earlier in Virgo than our New Moon.
Super Galactic Centre can be considered the spiritual essence from which life precipitates in our entire galactic neighborhood--a place from which spiritual nourishment and spiritual guidance expresses.
Diadem, the Alpha Star of Coma, articulates the essence of this grouping of stars. Diadem lies just north of the Virgin's head. Diadem is the jeweled crown above Virgin's head. Ornate Crowns in antiquity were designed with specific metals, jewels, and geometries to accentuate the wearer's telepathic and clairvoyant capacities, and for their communion with transcendent realms of consciousness. Diadem and the stats of Coma radiate the high spiritual essence of the Super Galactic Center, and impel us to attune to our spiritual / soul guidance.
Beta Coma Berenices, conjoining Zaniah, emphasizes our need to apply personal will according to our spiritual / soul guidance, which expresses through the magnetic forces of nature, in the messages provided by the world around us. Beta of Coma impels the administration and application of our spiritual guidance in our physical lives.
Quite north of and over Coma Berenices and our Super Galactic Centre, is Theta Bootes, along with Iota and Kappa of Bootes, extending from Lambda Bootes, and which form his upraised left hand. Bootes is protector and consort of the Virgin, protector of the divine feminine principle.
Crateris lies south of the Virgin’s head on back of Hydra. Its stars conjoin those of northern Coma, the crown of the Virgin. Crateris is the receiver or receptacle (sometimes referred to as the Cup of Salvation). Crateris impels us to transcend the busyness and diversions of life and to listen, to become receptacles of our greater soul wisdom and guidance.
Crateris combined with nearby Corvus can also be imaged as the "Ark of the Covenant." Although the Ark can be considered a technological transceiver for extraterrestrial communication, or a measure of arc in precessional (God's) time, it also has to do with our personal attunement. Our spinal columns are vertically arrayed antenna systems, the most sensitive of all, which receives gravitational waves encoded with cosmic intelligence that the Earth receives and expresses from Earth's core outward. These waves of guidance culminate in our cranial structures where they are then refocused to our pineal glands, neuro-endocrine transducers that translates this information into that which the pituitary, the master control center of the brain, can use. Being a clear, open and grounded vessel is required for perception of these subtle energies. Following them is yet more important.
Conjoining Zaniah in the southern heavens is Turais Carina and Phi Velorum, both of Argo Navis, which lie along the galactic equator, and thus are more associated with our longer-term soul-level sojourn and evolutionary course.
Turais (Aspidiske) of the Argo is a rather rare white supergiant star that shines with a luminosity of 4900 of our suns, with a radius estimated to be about 40 times that of our sun. "This Arabian name has led to some confusion regarding the nature of this star, even confused to be part of Puppis the stern of the Argo, but it lies along the gunwale in Carina, the hull of the Argo, under Velorum the sail." (Allen)
Phi Velorum and the adjoining Pulsar P 0950 reside exactly on the Galactic Equator in the Sail (Velorum) of the Argo. Pulsars in general are beacons for the soul, and in this case, inspiring our attunement to the evolutionary currents beyond our incarnational moment, those of the greater evolutionary process itself. P-0950 has a pulse rate of 1.436551 seconds, which is a frequency of 0.696111729 Hz. Raised a few octaves, this translates to an Alpha brain wave frequency of 11.1377...Hz; and this translates both to infrared and violet wavelengths in the light spectrum. Thus, P-0950 links energy currents occurring in the spiritual realm (crown chakra) with the very root / earth primordial response (Earth Chakra--about a foot below our feet). This pulsar reminds us that to receive our spiritual guidance we must be grounded--like any good antenna.
Galactic Turais and Phi Velorum puts ecliptical Zaniah's "right use of will" into a greater evolutionary context, one with cosmic ramifications that extend throughout spacetime. Our acts of will are not isolated, cut off and limited to the moment itself, but extend into the past-future time-stream of the soul influencing the continuous cosmic currents in soul's greater evolutionary journey in ways that are unseen in the action moment.
Turais asks us to extend our awareness into this time-stream, while Zaniah inspires clear action in the moment from soul's and nature's guiding influence. Thus each action moment is one punctual droplet of many composing a continuous time-stream that formulates the path or wave upon which soul travels. Turais invites us to recognize our actions extend into and influence not only the nature of our own lives, but also the lives of others, effecting the meandering currents in an ocean of being. They set up resonances in spacetime that define the nature of experiences yet to come for our selves and in the evolutionary journey of all involved.
This lunar cycle inspires us to attune to and act upon our soul-level / spiritual guidance in the now. It impels us to become clear vessels for this expression and undaunted in our pursuits and commitments in life. This lunar cycle is about applying right action through communication and in the daily logistics of our lives, moment-by-moment. It is about the power of focused intent and purpose, and of becoming one with our purpose. Forever planning or procrastination can be a trait of Virgo, however action in now based on our intuitive impulses and upon the signs in our lives that we receive is a refined expression Virgo.
Virgo can impel us to do more or it can impel us to become more--the lesson here is to realize the difference. Success is not doing more to achieve more. It is becoming more to attract success. This is the difference from a have-do-be mentality to a be-do-have mentality. The have-do-be mentality is where we think we need something we do not have, so we can do what we think we need to do, to become what we wish to be. The be-do-have mentality is to become more, to express what we have become, to have the success we wish. Success is not something to pursue, success is something we attract by what we become.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, the days leading into and through the New Moon is ideal time to work with the Mercury audio meditation. Mercury makes its superior conjunction (Mercury on the far side of the Sun) shortly after the New Moon. This also marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Mercury ~116-day synodic cycle. This cycle began during the previous Mercury Retrograde. This was a significant and compounded synod due to the Venus-Sun-Mercury-Nessus alignment, presented in the July 30, 2011 Lunar Planner. A key phrase regarding this cycle is: "Nessus can help to bring us from our past conditioning that keeps us in a mode of self-diminishment or living in a mode less than who we really are ... inviting us to graduate into a more refined and more fulfilling mode of participation in life." This, and any realizations regarding it, amalgamates with our Virgo New Moon theme.
Venus conjoins Haumea and Saturn on September 29, and then Juno on Oct 2 just after the Crescent Moon. Venus brings its harmonizing, feminine, heart-felt and abundant energetic to the Juno-Haumea-Saturn theme that has been engaging over the last couple of months. Also see: Comet Elenin's encounter with Juno.
The geocentric conjunctions of Juno, Haumea and Saturn occurred in the previous lunar cycle. They made a compounded synod in sidereal Virgo in the lunar cycle before that, presented in the July 30, 2011 Lunar Planner. This began a new many-year cycle with a theme created by the synthesis of these three planetary energetics nesting in Virgo’s stellar backdrop. It set in motion a new evolutionary undercurrent in our lives, especially for relationships and partnerships of all types. They impel and support a new birth for partnerships in new, concretized and stable expressions.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, Sept 29 through Oct 2 is ideal time to work with the Saturn and Venus audio meditations. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.
The Crescent Moon of September 30 occurs in late sidereal Libra. It conjoins Unukalhai of Serpens, Brachium of Libra; Alpha Lupus and Beta Centauri.
This is the domain the Centaur, which lies south of the ecliptic. The benevolent and wise Centaurians are teachers or leaders back to the original cardinal virtues embodied by the Southern Cross, which the Centaur stands over and protects. The benevolent Centaur teaches the right way to live to attain one's self-mastery in the physical world and subsequently to claim one's evolutionary freedom from entrapment in the karmic re-incarnational process of soul growth--exemplified by Ophiuchus, who stands over the Scorpion and holds the serpent, with the neck and head of the Serpent reaching for the Northern Crown.
The Centaurian training is not merely an intellectual understanding of these principles but is learned through an experiential journey moment-by-moment that leads one to true inner wisdom and knowledge on an energetic neurological level, resulting in the inner realization that makes self-mastery of the primal forces of life actualized and right action crystal clear.
Beta Centauri, on the cusp of sidereal Scorpio, articulates the process itself, the way. Beta Centauri requires that we do whatever is required in the physical world, with assertive action, to achieve our paths of self-mastery in the world.
In our mythical image, the Centaur is depicted as grasping Lupus the beast in his right fist, and with conscious deliberation placing the beast upon Ara, the sacrificial Altar of the Centaur to be consumed in the Centaur's pyre. This is the relinquishment or offering of the lower-self personality desires to be burned upon the altar. This is required to claim the profound level of self-mastery implied and embodied by that which is above the ecliptic--Unukalhai, the neck of the Serpent whose head reaches for the Northern Crown. The meaning of the word "sacrifice" as used here is important to understand. To sacrifice means to give up something of a lower nature for a higher office--not self-sacrifice. So our southern Alpha Lupus aligned with our northern Alpha Serpens indicates this process of the "sacrifice" of the lower self-pursuits (even the human form or mold) for the attainment of one's higher self-mastery and subsequent ascended mastery in the world--the power and wisdom embodied by the Serpent. Alpha Lupus can also indicate an attachment to a lower order expression and a required need to relinquish that attachment for a higher order expression to emerge or manifest.
The sacrifice of Lupus is not a light matter, merely a blind act executed on whim, but is a seriously sober and conscious act that will change one forever. To accomplish such a profound life-changing step, one must have cultivated the inner preparedness for such an initiation. An undaunted inner conviction of purpose must be clearly established in consciousness to be willing to sacrifice what is a powerful, and most often time, a primal and automatic behavioral way of life, that which at one time may even have been held quite dear.
The power of the Serpent cannot be prematurely coerced on the mental plane. It requires the accumulation of true personal power. Hence the need to surrender the past, a lesser position or aspect of self, embodied by Lupus, and to claim the personal power and experiential wisdom represented by the neck and head of the Serpent is to make active the transmutational energies of Unukalhai, the kundalini serpent within self, so it may rise to the Northern Crown of true enlightenment.
Our Crescent Moon brings what may have started as a mental process to a physical experiential action that demands our inner conviction of purpose, along with the need to gather our personal power and relinquish lesser behavioral aspects of self in order to actualize our New Moon theme.
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on October 3 in mid-sidereal Sagittarius. It conjoins Alpha and Beta of Scutum; Nunki and Ascella of Sagittarius; and the AM Hercules X-Ray Source.
This impressive spiral galaxy NGC 6744 lies about 30 million light-years away in the southern constellation of Pavo (The Peacock). It is almost a picture postcard of our Galaxy. http://www.eso.org/public/news/eso1118/
Sagittarius, stargate to Galactic Center, is commonly referred to as the Sagittarian Centaur, Zen Archer, or the First Horseman whose arrow points toward Galactic Center. Sagittarius, both a galactic constellation and an ecliptical constellation (lying upon the galactic equator and the ecliptic), oversees the "Gate of God" (5° sidereal Sag)--the primary fiducial (marking point) of Earth ~25,000 year precessional cycle.
The First Horseman, our Sagittarian Centaur, is where the first and highest spiritual light is found, our Galactic City of Light, and is responsible for the higher spiritual education of all intelligent life on Earth. Overhead is the constellation Scutum, Galactic shield of the Holy Cross, which is emblazoned with the symbol of the Holy Cross (the cross in a circle), which is both the astronomical symbol for Earth and Earth’s Precessional Cross, which governs the evolutionary cycle of the soul. Sagittarius is supreme defender of the High Truth of the Precessional Cross--ensuring the spiritual and evolutionary fulfillment of humankind--one who is willing to live, fight, and die for this Truth.
Sagittarius is the Spiritual Warrior. On a personal level, Sagittarius inspires demonstrable action to live our deeper inner truths, to express that truth through an undaunted Zen focus to hit our target, to achieve our highest ideals and dreams. The Sagittarian Archer is self-taught, of spiritual wisdom gained through raw experience. Sagittarius is the sanguine inspirationalist, of lofty vision and higher ideals.
Nunki, Sigma Sag, (and Phi of Sagittarius at the Archer's hand), marks the fletching of the Zen Archer's arrow. The fletching of an arrow is what causes it to spin and have stability in flight, making it possible for the arrow to accurately move through space to hit its target. Nunki teaches us to steer our intent with undaunted focus, which is the guiding and stabilizing force used to direct the Zen Archer's arrow.
Ascella, Zeta Sagittarius, is a binary star system, and is the third brightest star in Sagittarius. Although, traditionally meaning the armpit, or more succinctly, the junction of the archer's shoulder and the outstretched arm holding the bow, along which the archer takes aim, Ascella lies more so at the breast or heart of the Centaur, slightly south of Nunki. The two stars are about one degree in ecliptical longitude, thus tightly conjoined. Ascella embodies the heart of the Zen Archer, not the physical heart, but the Archer's power of intent--the truth within from which he lives.
Ascella and Nunki are where the pure intent and vision of the Zen Archer is transferred into the power and focus that drives and steers the archer's arrow. This is a place of applied power in sidereal Sagittarius. It articulates the combined qualities of vision and high ideals with the inherent force and power applied with undaunted focus to achieve our ideals and visions. There must be movement / velocity for the fletching of an arrow (Nunki) to steer the arrow’s course. Thus we must not only access our intent of purpose, but we must move it, apply it with focused deliberation through conscious action from a place of stability and confidence to transform our intent of purpose into the manifestation of our greater ideals and visions.
Several star qualities amalgamate around the Zen Archer's hand holding the taunt arrow: Nunki (Sigma), Phi, Ascella (Zeta), Tau, Nu, and Xi of Sagittarius. This is the warrior's core energy in its full potential, drawn and ready to release, provoking action that is life supportive--hence the spiritual warrior. This location marks the central vertical golden essence of the Archer, a point of equipoise and balance. It is where we align all of the light fibers of our being into a coherent whole and focus that totality in controlled action.
Often described as exotic and enigmatic, northern AM Hercules expresses a powerful magnetic synchronizing force capable of assembling spirit substance into exquisite order in form. Here is a spiraling but directed force to funnel our intent into ordered achievement.
Our First Quarter Moon brings stimulus to refine our form, to get into a proper stance in life, to become one with our purpose in all aspects of our lives, and to undauntedly shoot the arrow of our dreams. There is no helter-skelter approach here, only undaunted clarity within and the execution of our purpose and intent to manifest our highest aspirations--lest we will merely blow in the increasing and accelerating winds of change. This is a time to go for it.
Just as Venus conjoined Haumea, Saturn and Juno earlier in this lunar cycle, Mercury now does the same, creating a second level trigger to this energetic. Mercury conjoins Haumea and Saturn on October 5, and then Juno on October 9, just after the Gibbous Moon. Mercury stimulates the actualization of this new birth for partnerships, living it in the daily logistics of our lives. It impels us to act in the now. It also brings the theme our New Moon and the theme of Mercury’s synodic cycle (discussed above) to the Haumea-Saturn-Juno theme.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, Oct 5 through Oct 9 is ideal time to work with the Saturn and Mercury audio meditations. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.
Our Gibbous Moon occurs on October 7 nesting between and conjoining Neptune and Chiron in early sidereal Aquarius. It conjoins Gienah of Cygnus; the Cygnus X-3 Eclipsing Xray Source and the Helix Nebula in Aquarius.
This colour-composite image of the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) was created from images obtained using the Wide Field Imager (WFI), an astronomical camera attached to the 2.2-metre Max-Planck Society/ESO telescope at the La Silla observatory in Chile. The blue-green glow in the centre of the Helix comes from oxygen atoms shining under effects of the intense ultraviolet radiation of the 120 000 degree Celsius central star and the hot gas. Further out from the star and beyond the ring of knots, the red colour from hydrogen and nitrogen is more prominent. A careful look at the central part of this object reveals not only the knots, but also many remote galaxies seen right through the thinly spread glowing gas. Image and Caption: ESO
This location in the ecliptic is where we are motivated to strip off the cloaks of personality-based facades and shenanigans to reveal true heart-level self and to live from our deeper hearts' truth for the greater nourishment of all. Sadr, heart of the Swan, on the cusp, through the tip of the wing of Cygnus, Gienah, lifts us from a self-centered exclusive focus to a more embracing and inclusive level of participation. This marks the start of the revolutionary, visionary and humanitarian facet of the zodiak.
Cygnus X-3 resides in a unique galactic equatorial area, one of the galactic "sacks of coal," a dark void along the galactic plane (easily seen between Sadr and Deneb on a dark starry night). Cygnus X-3 is an X-ray binary star system similar to Cygnus X-1 except its period is extraordinarily rapid at 4.8 hours, compared to the 5.6-day period of Cygnus X-1 (in later Capricorn), which is more common for binary star systems. The periodic rate of Cygnus X-3 is almost five octaves up from Cygnus X-1 and harmonically translates into the visible spectrum at 5615.40323 Angstroms, the color YellowLemon. Cygnus X-3 is a dynamic, accelerating force, lifting mind to a higher or more embracing consciousness.
Cygnus X-3 enters the ecliptic, along with Gienah, the binary star epsilon Cygnus, the right outstretch wing tip of the Swan, and also with M15, a fainter globular star cluster in Pegasus. Cygnus X-3 is a principal force expressing in early sidereal Aquarius.
Cygnus X-3 invites us to surrender our preconceptions of self and our descriptive judgments of others that uphold our isolationist way of being. Cygnus X-3 invites us to participate beyond our segregated ways based on gender, race, creed, or culture and open ourselves to new experience only available when we are willing to embrace the uniqueness of all life. Here we must shed the mortal facades we ware and participate from our true essence and to see the same in others. Mutually exclusive attractions create factions amongst our true soul-level friends and families. Here lies the embracing aspect of the Aquarian Waterman, to participate in the inclusiveness of universal (Uranian) love. The conjoining Globular Cluster of very old stars (old souls), M15 in Pegasus, inspires active and focused participation as mature, consciously awake individuals.
Our Gibbous Moon brings our attention to the revolutionary, visionary and humanitarian ideals of Aquarius. It invites us to participate from a greater soul maturity that is inclusive, not exclusive. Our Gibbous Moon also brings inspiration to create and cross a bridge in society, and into our dreams and visions. Chrion and Neptune conjoined throughout 2009 and 2010, and they began a new ~85-year synodic cycle on February 26, 2010 on the cusp of sidereal Aquarius, conjoining Sadr of Cygnus. The Chiron-Neptune synthesis, in part, inspires us to create entirely new revolutionary and visionary alternatives to cross the vast abyss we may currently face in our lives--to create a new world paradigm. The Chiron-Neptune synodic theme is one and same as the February 14, 2010 New Moon theme, which was presented in the February 14, 2010 Lunar Planner.
The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some is a New World for those who realize it is.
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
The Full Moon occurs on October 11-12 in late sidereal Pisces just a few degrees before Eris. The Sun also conjoins the Dwarf Planet Haumea, which marks the midpoint of vision and realization in the current Earth-Haumea synodic cycle. Thus our Full Moon brings realization about this lunar cycle and realization about Haumea’s role in our lives.
Haumea and her two moons, Hi'iaka and Namaka - artists conception.
Haumea, believed to be composed of pure rock with a pure ice shell, has an ellipsoidal shape, is about the size of Pluto in length, and has an orbital period of 285 Earth years. It spins extremely rapid end-over-end at a rate of 3.9 Earth hours. Haumea maintains a state of equilibrium due to its rapid rotation. Although not round, this why it is classified as a Dwarf Planet.
Ann Field / Space Telescope Science Institute / ESA/NASA
The Dwarf Planet Haumea (pronounced how-MAY-ah) was discovered on Dec 28, 2004. Haumea has two moons, Hi’iaka (pronounced HEE-’ee-AH-kah) and Namaka (pronounced nah-MAH-kah).
Haumea is the goddess of childbirth and fertility in Hawaiian mythology. Her many children sprang from different parts of her body. She takes many different forms and has experienced many different rebirths. Martha Warren Beckworth suggests the name Haumea more naturally comes from Hanaumea, meaning “sacred birth.” Hence we have an essence of “purity” or a birth of specialness, the ability to produce a fresh or clear state of consciousness.
Haumea’s propensity is to intercede with dynamic motion from a state of equilibrium and poise to support a new birth in consciousness, especially the use of the fundamental primordial forces of life. Haumea also appears to motivate action to reorient world powers’ militaristic destructive use of power and resources into a nurturing force that supports and protects life, home and family; and that aids humanity’s emergence into a spiritually and primordial aware state of being. At a personal level, Haumea inspires the application of our personal attributes and resources for these same principles. More about Haumea.
The Full Moon conjoins Revati of Pisces, Tau and Upsilon of Cetus; Zeta, Epsion and Sigma Andromeda; and Nodus Secundus of Draco.
Revati, Zeta Pisces, is the principal star here. Revati literally means riches, money, wealth, and financial resources. Prominent alignments with Revati can indicate material wealth gained from participating in the dramatic psycho-emotional world of human affairs--where the bucks are. This zodiakal longitude is a couple of degrees to that of Baten Kaitos, the belly of ole Cetus, where the transformative process occurs while in the whale of human emotional experience. Revati and Baten Kaitos also mark the exalted seat of Venus--bringing attention to the relation of the flow of abundance, emotional clarity, and living from the heart. Venus rules money and assets; and Venus (especially its retrogrades) dramatically influences the stock market, as is well know in astrological market forecasting.
Cetus, the techno-bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, is the whale of human emotional experience. Baten Kaitos is the belly of ole' Cetus. Further south is Fornax, the furnace and Phi Fornax, which provides the perpetual fire (digestive juices) for our transmutation while participating in the belly of ole' Cetus--in the wet, sensual, and emotional world of human affairs. Alignments with Baten Kaitos can indicate delays or setbacks, but a time needed to make an inner transformation, before rescue, emergence, or rewards can be gained. Baten can indicate the need to embrace the emotional aspects of mortal life and to emerge in transmuted form. The value here is to be able to participate from the wisdom of having been there, and to claim the abundance that life has to offer in all of its forms (Venus-Revati).
Buried deep in the subconscious, Upsilon Ceti (conjoining Revati and Baten) supports opportunity for emergence from the belly of ole’ Cetus, that is to emerge from the struggles and fear common to the 3-d bureaucratic realmspace of our current collective consciousness; which in essence produces the mirror image or inversion in consciousness, the revelation of freedom produced from the inside-out, into heartspace. Upsion Ceti reveals, for those that submerge deep enough within self, well beyond the turbulent psyho-drama of mind, the key to the chains of fear that bind.
North of and conjoining Revati and Baten Kaitos are the outstretched arms of the entrapped princess Andromeda, chained to the rocks. Andromeda's northern arm is lashed high over her head upon the crag, pulled back toward the Lizard. Her southern arm, pulled southward toward the riches of the mortal world and also toward the shores where Cetus, the techno-bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, approaches. Andromeda is stretched in turmoil in this natural sepulchre carved into the rocky cliff, caught in forces not of her own making, an environment and genetic lineage she was born into.
Andromeda is forced to face the sea (her emotions) and Cetus, the sea-monster (the fear-based monster of collective consciousness), which is buried deep beneath the water (in the subconscious mind) only to reveal its menacing head and thrashing tail at the surface shore.
In the far northern heavens is Nodus Secundus of Draco, the second node or fold in the ever watchful Dragon, who guards the atlas of the heavens (North Ecliptic Pole). This is the Delta star of Draco, also called Altais, and also Aldib. Altais lies about 4° from the North Ecliptic Pole. Altais of the Dragon indicates an initiatory lesson to claim our emotional clarity rather than turning our heads in denial about this inner requirement and falling into a sense of perpetual helplessness.
Here we are asked to become attentive to the fact that our intent of purpose can be diverted and dispersed by psychic-emotional forces that congest us when toxic physical conditions exist either in ourselves or in our environments, or when we are naive to such forces, or simply in mental-emotional denial about them. Our psychic-emotional fog can then perpetuate confused life scenarios, antiquated involvements, or entrapments that are no longer in our highest interest nor serving our greater well-being. This initiatory gate of the Dragon provides an opening once emotional clarity is gained--to escape entrapment in the fear-based monster of collective consciousness.
Conjoining Altais is Tau Cetus, a sign or mark of strength that indicates the emotional strength gained from our emotional trials stimulates our expulsion from what may have been a tormenting and entrapping scenario.
Our Full Moon brings our attention to financial resources, to its flow in our lives, and to the need to have the courage to release fear about not having or surviving, which feeds the tormenting forces of Cetus and the bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. At the same time, our Haumea-Sun inspires dynamic movement to emerge from an old and crumbling world paradigm, and perhaps to emerge anew in our own lives into a greater flow of abundance.
The Sun conjoins Saturn after the Full Moon on October 13. This marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current 378-day Earth-Saturn synodic cycle that began on the New Moon of April 3, 2011 in sidereal Virgo. This cycle was presented in the April 3, 2011 Lunar Planner. It again is about perceiving the message from the natural world around us; as well as to our responsibility to heed those messages and to act upon them.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonics Audio Meditations, Oct 13 is ideal time to work with the Saturn audio meditation. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The Sun-Earth-Eris alignment occurring on October 15, 2011 marks the commencement of a new one-year long Earth-Eris synodic cycle. Eris moves rather slowly, a fraction of a degree per year, so the synodic themes shift only slightly from year to year. Eris, in late sidereal Pisces, is south of the ecliptic and is currently in the belly of ole’ Cetus, our technobureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness.
Eris, the Great Disruptor, has a radical and interceding nature, overturning our current perception, but with purpose, so we may expand and redefine our perceptual view of the reality in which we live. Eris, discovered in 2005 in Cetus, was responsible for the formation of the new “Dwarf Planet” classification and the reclassification of Pluto to Dwarf Planet status, the family to which Eris, Pluto and the asteroid Ceres now belong. This caused quite a commotion in both the astronomical and astrological communities. However, this proved to be appropriate as additional new Dwarf Planets were discovered shortly afterward.
Mythologically, Eris is the Greek god of strife. Eris’ daughter, Dysnomia, is the name given to the moon of Eris. Dysnomia is said to be the “spirit of lawlessness”--disruptor of civil order. Eris, however, had two daughters, Dysnomia and the opposite and peaceable one, Eunomia, who ends strife. Dysnomia is also the name given to a nominal recall (dys) disorder--a memory problem associated with naming (nouns); the inability to retrieve names when needed--”its on the tip of my tongue.”
Eris demonstrated, right from the start, her no-nonsense astrological role as the great disruptor. Although the discovery of Eris created discord at first, a new order followed with the new classification of Dwarf Planets (fitting to the theme of her daughter Eunomia). This is significant when considering Eris’ astrological character.
Discordant Eris provokes change by upsetting the status quo, by upsetting the apple cart. Although Eris can create a disrupting commotion, upsetting our existing, limiting and antiquated structures of consciousness. She opens us to see beyond the finite bounds of our current perception, beyond the bounds we place upon ourselves by arousing and challenging our egoic defenses. In doing so, we are left to redefine and reorganize our world view to embrace a far vaster reality--a view more fitting to our rapidly expanding awareness.
Eris’ discovery in Cetus, the Technobureaucratic Monster of Collective Human Consciousness, indicates Eris is disrupting the fear-driven bureaucratic world of mass consensus to help our emergence from the belly of the ole’ whale into a new world paradigm. Being a very slow mover, Eris is still making its passage through the gut of Cetus--continuing to disrupt fear-based collective human consciousness and the technobureaucratic monster driving it. Eris’ influence has been working, for the most part, at sub-conscious emotional level--perhaps continuing to increase the unrest with the status quo in the human populous.
Eris has been conjoining Revati of Pisces and Baten Kaitos, the belly of Cetus, for some time now--perhaps a significant part of the stimulus upsetting our current financial paradigm and bureaucratic monster. See The Path of Eris & The Eris Synodic Cycles 2003 - 2016.
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.
The Disseminating Moon occurs on October 15-16 in mid-sidereal Taurus conjoining the Hyades asterism of stars. Near by is Aldebaran of Taurus.
Aldebaran, Eye of the Bull, is one of the "Four Royal Architects" bringing order to the heavens. Directly opposite Aldebaran is Antares, Heart of the Scorpion. Both of these stars mark the centers of their respective signs. The other Royals are Regulus of Leo, Heart of the Lion (Leo), the law-giver; and humanitarian Fomalhaut in sidereal Aquarius. Aldebaran, the "Bull's Eye," means the mathematical center. The Aldebaran-Antares axis was the primary fiducial (reference point) for the Babylonian zodiak (See Robert Powell’s book: History of the Zodiak). Aldebaran and sidereal Taurus is the primogeniture of the zodiak, the Earth sign from which life springs.
Aldebaran holds the vision for global leaders and world servers inspiring the administrative planning of world affairs, specifically for physical logistics and a global infrastructure designed to support humanity through evolutionary growth and change. Prominent alignments with the Aldebaran / Antares axis can express into the business and political arenas, and is of their leaders.
Aldebaran is a star of pioneering leadership. At a personal level, Aldebaran is of business and the home. It inspires vision and impels initiative to act for our physical wellbeing. Aldebaran inspires involvement with physical places, business and projects supportive of our modalities of living for self, family and friends. Aldebaran inspires us to take the physical action to manifest our visions in the physical world.
The Hyades, primarily marked by Theta Taurus, is the second asterism in Taurus after the Pleiades. It forms the V-shape of stars between Aldebaran and Ain. The Hyades are said to be five of the fifteen daughters of Atlas and Aethra, daughter of Oceanus; and named after Hyas, meaning rain, the son of Aethra, who preceded her daughters. The Hyades are thus half sisters of the Pleiades. The Greeks new them as Uades, which some say is from the Latin uein (to rain); referring to their reputation for bringing rain attending their helically rising and setting in latter May and November. Ovid, the Roman poet, writes that the sisters were grief-stricken at the death of their beloved brother, and their tears fall on us as rain.
The Hyades are considered to have a watery and tempestuous nature although they nest within an Earth sign, and are associated with tempests and storms; and thus also of emotional release of grief when morning. Although Taurus is of the fruits of the Earth, and generally has a peaceful nature, it does have areas that are more disruptive in nature, with the Hyades being associated with thunder, lighting and storms; creating upset and sorrow. They can be associated with civil disruption with afflicted alignments, but when Aldebaran is prominently aspected; there is the capacity for strong leadership to emerge from such disruptive or chaotic scenarios. Either way, the disruptive nature of the Hyades can be diversionary or entrapping to those without the vision and stamina Aldebaran offers.
Another articulation of the Hyades is provided by the mythical story of the starseeds journey from the Pleiades, through Hyades to Aldebaran. In this galactic myth, Alcyone of the Pleiades (~5° sidereal Taurus) is administrative seat for a group of starseeds incarnate on Earth who, in order to graduate into the "Office of the Christos or Khristos” (from Krestos to Khristos; i.e., into soul awareness), are responsible for the seeding of the Vision of Aldebaran on Earth. This is to demonstrate responsible aid supporting Earthian souls though a monumental evolutionary transition, helping to establish the awakening of human consciousness to galactic / unified awareness in a regenerated world, and in so doing they do it for themselves as well. The fall of the starseeds from awareness of the mission upon which they were sanctioned to Earth is articulated by the journey through the first half of sidereal Taurus, specifically through the Hyades asterism. The Hyades lie between the Pleiades and Aldebaran, not only in ecliptical longitude, but also in distance (Alcyone is ~450 light-years from Earth, the Hyades ~150 light-years, & Aldebaran ~68 light-years). As the journey goes from Alcyone to Aldebaran, Hyades represents the diversionary fall of the starseeds: having become lost in the carnal lure human life--all leading to a genetic mess: perpetuating genetic weakness: degeneration, death, and rebirth into the human evolutionary stream--although perhaps part the plan to start with. In this process, the emissaries lost the vision of which they were to manifest, faced instead with a sobering reawakening that they got stuck in the chaos and must now find their way out, let alone remembering their original covenant with their soul families and accomplishing their greater soul mission. In this stellar mythos, alignments to Hyades can be indicative of those who forgot their greater soul heritage and purpose, who carry issues of having been lured and lost in human involvement, lost in Hell in a sense, and resultantly confused about their true identity. In Hyades, one can be extremely slow to change or act, sometimes only when it is too late, or when the door of opportunity literally has passed.
Our Demonstrable Moon impels us to emerge as leaders from the chaos and crises of human life, to manifest new infrastructures and ways of living that support our physical wellbeing. It also impels us to wake from our slumber as mere humans and to realize we are a part of a much greater galactic heritage and evolutionary sojourn.
The Sun enters sidereal Libra on October 18.
The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle's last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on October 19-20 in early sidereal Cancer. It conjoins Procyon of Canis Minor and Alifa al Frakadain or Ursa Minor.
Procyon, of Canis Minor, is the Babylonian "Kakkab Paldara," which means "Star of the Crossing." It is one of the five stars creating the "Egyptian X" with Betelgeuse of Orion, Naos of the Argo, Phaet of Columba the Dove, and with the center star Sirius--the Great World Teacher. In classic astrology, Procyon portends wealth, renown, and good fortune. Conjoining Pollux of Gemini (the ambassador). Procyon inspires our allegiance to a greater cause, purpose, or faction. Procyon inspires us to ally with another or with a group to achieve a greater purpose than we could achieve alone. The desert Arabs knew Sirius and Procyon as "Al Ahawat al Suhail"--the (radiant, glorious, and beautiful) sisters of Canopus: thus recognizing all three to be associated with the fulfillment of souls' greater evolutionary purpose. Procyon is the 8th brightest star in the sky (0.38 mag.), only 11.2 lightyears distant. It is a binary with magnitudes of 0.4 and 11.7.
The first decan of sidereal Cancer, from Pollux (~29° Gem) / Procyon (~1° Can) to Al Tarf (~10° Can), under the Head of the Great Bear, under the tail of the Dragon, and under the Head of the Calf, Ursa Minor (where the handle connects to the cup of the Little Dipper), holds a quality that is nurturing, protective and of gentleness. Within this zodiakal band we find those who stand out from the norm, who tend to be genetically unique, or who do not fit in to their race or family--often a pure-breed, half-breed; or of some abnormal mix or with some altered and unique trait. Those of this uniqueness often have abnormal abilities as well--a capacity to bridge between worlds or dimensions. They sometimes have issues of accepting their uniqueness at an early age, and either suppress it or exaggerate it as they grow. They can be the black sheep wondering how to fit in but never will and must find a way to apply their own path and purpose. This is often one who can and must live in two worlds simultaneously.
Alifa al Frakadain, conjoining Procyon and also Alsciaukat of the Lynx, Samoht, Alpha Monoceros and Aludra of Canis Major, imparts somewhat of a peaceful warrior character and impels a willingness to stand up for the uniqueness and rights of others.
Fitting with our Juno-Haumea-Saturn theme, our Last Quarter Moon inspires us to ally with others to achieve something greater than we could achieve alone.
The Sun conjoins the asteroid Juno the day before the Balsamic Moon as we coalesce the experience of this lunar cycle. This marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Juno synodic cycle that began on March 12, 2011. The Juno synodic cycle was presented in the March 4, 2011 Lunar Planner. The synod occured near the same location as our current Balsamic Moon, motivating dynamic creative expression in partnerships.
Juno, goddess of love, is the asteroid of covenant relationships, soul colleagues, and true lovers. In the astrological chart, Juno indicates the nature of the issues and opportunities in significant relations of all sorts: those that are of a personal nature to those of political leaders and nations of the world. Mature Juno is diplomatic, tactful, cooperative, and mutually trusting. Mature Juno expresses with a sense of equality within self that provides the ability to draw true partners and those of equality into one’s life. There is an acceptance of another’s truth or opinion without need to challenge or debate. There is an ability to honor and support others in their own choices and decisions. Mature Juno expresses in mutual support and unconditional love to allow each other to grow and change through whatever issues surface.
Juno’s placement in the astrological chart is one of several points that determine the types of significant relations we draw into our lives. Because Juno is where we deal with our inferiority / superiority complexes, and if this issue is prominent, partnerships drawn in earlier life can be full of lessons regarding such issues and not much else. Once a certain level of clarity is attained within self regarding the asteroid issues, true soul level covenant relations begin to show up. This does not mean we still do not grow regarding Juno issues, but there are those individuals with which we may also have a mutual soul bond and mission to pursue together.
Potential Juno issues can manifest as superiority / inferiority complexes or other inequality issues. More about Juno.
The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.
The Balsamic Moon occurs on October 23 in sidereal Leo. The Moon conjoins Chort of Leo; Mizar of Ursa Major and the Seyfer Galaxy NGC 4151 of Canes Venatici.
“The Eye of Sauron” in Canes Venatici
NGC 4151 is a spiral galaxy with an actively growing supermassive black hole at its center. This composite image of NGC 4151 contains X-rays from Chandra (blue), optical data (yellow), and radio emission (red). The structure has been dubbed "The Eye of Sauron" by astronomers due to its resemblance to the character in "The Lord of the Rings.”

Mizar of the Great Bear, Zeta Ursa Major, is the overseeing and predominant star of this area of the zodiak. Mizar, and its companion Alcor, articulates raw fiery energy that must express one way or another. Mizar must have a creative outlet, but for its proper expression, we must apply it with creative vision. Mizar brings attention to use of our creative energies; creative and destructive tendencies, and the fear to create lest it may result in destruction. Here we learn the nature of such volatile forces. Mizar, with averted alignments is also known for catastrophic fires or massacres. Mizar can however express quite artistically--just as gunpowder can express as beautiful fireworks or devastating explosions. The expression of Mizar tends to express in a grand way, in character with showy and dramatic Leo. Mizar imparts a dynamic, action oriented creative artistic expression.
Asterion and the conjoining Seyfert Galaxy NGC4151, both of the barking hounds, Canes Venatici, conjoin Mizar. Seyfert galaxies are spiral galaxies that have very dense and bright cores (nuclei) that express a broad spectrum of emission lines, which suggests extremely hot gases in violent motion. In general, Seyfert galaxies tend to stimulate dynamic, powerful and directed action.
Although of a dynamic, outgoing, artistic creative character, Mizar, Asterion and Chort, on the hind of the Lion, can also produce a lot of dramatic racket and fiery commotion due to toxic conditions or an unrefined awareness. This can also be a part of the often diversionary tactics intended to distract the unsuspecting from the real issues or path at hand, a theme common to late Leo.
The conjoining Pulsar CP1133 in Leo provides impulses to act upon our intuition and upon the more subtle evolutionary and guiding currents articulated by the stars of Velorum, the sail of the Argo, in this case Delta Velorum, which lies below in the southern heavens. Delta Velorum provides and opening or way through the diversionary dramatics in the global arena for those who are able to function on more refined evolutionary currents.
Thus our lunar cycle coalesces in this windy and fiery area of the zodiak, one that can stimulate dynamic creative expression, yet it is easy to be misled in our actions if we are not clear within self and define our course. It is easy to become diverted by the dramatics whirlwind or glamour in the world around us. Our opportunity is to attune to subtler guiding currents that can guide us in right action and in the right direction that is attuned to and in harmony with accomplishing our greater pursuits in life.
Mars and Venus (approaching square) move into position to aspect the forming Saturn-Eris opposition, which occurs on the upcoming New Moon.
The Moon’s last conjunction in this lunar cycle is with Juno the day before New Moon--bringing our attention back to partnerships. Our next New Moon occurs on October 26, 2011 in sidereal Libra along with the potent Saturn-Eris opposition. More to come then.
