Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are--our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).
Our New Moon of September 16, 2012 lies under the auspices of the Tail of the Lion and the Tail of the Great Bear. The New Moon conjoins Alkes of Crateris and Avior Carina of Argo Navis. Also of influence is Denebola of Leo, and Cor Caroli and the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of Canes Venatici.
This is a windy and fiery area of the zodiak, often producing grand spectacle and diversionary smoke screens. It produces motivation to seek a deeper level of fulfillment transcendent to the shenanigans occurring upon the global stage and the surface turbulence occurring in our daily lives. It also requires discernment to see the truly wise leaders with spiritual prowess and emotional maturity from those spouting principles they do not truly embody.
This lunar cycle produces the second Uranus-Pluto square, which occurs on the Crescent Moon of September 18-19. The first square occurred in late June, kicking off this few-year long portal of revolutionary and revelatory change (2012-2015). New Earth-Pallas and Earth-Uranus synodic cycles begin in this lunar month as well. The Full Moon conjoins Uranus and squares Pluto creating a potent Uranus-Full Moon Sun Pluto T-square, also bringing revelation about the need for radical transformation in our lives and in our world.
The Uranus-Pluto square helps to deconstruct those things in our lives that are not serving our greater truth and fulfillment. Many people may be feeling and experiencing endings, yet these endings are forcing us to seek a deeper truth and to live truer to self and to what really matters in life—attuned to our inner heartlight. The Uranus-Pluto square acts as a great equalizer, bringing us to realize our common humanity. The endings we may be experiencing in our personal lives and in the world at large catalyze new beginnings and new discoveries that serve our greater nourishment and future wellbeing. There is nothing to fear and everything to embrace as we move through the remainder of this year, through the December Solstice, and into the years that follow.
There are several significant triggers to both the Uranus-Pluto Square and to Earth’s Precessional Cross in this lunar cycle, especially between the Crescent Moon and the Full Moon, bringing continual stimulus for revolutionary change in our lives.
These are just a few of many events occurring in this lunar cycle. The Monthly Lunar Planner explores the details of these events, their meaning and more—the underlying cosmic currents upon which we evolve and which guide our daily lives—based in star-level astronomical astrology and synodic astrology.
"The stars would not be in the heavens if we were meant to walk in darkness."
About Synodic Cycles
Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.
Our late sidereal Leo New Moon of September 16, 2012 conjoins Alkes of Crateris and Avior Carina of Argo Navis. Also of influence is Denebola, tail of the Lion, Alpha Antilia, and Cor Caroli and the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of Canes Venatici. Benetnasch, the tail of the Great Bear, lies just across the Virgo cusp and is the governing star of this area of the zodiak, which also conjoins Zavijava of early Virgo.
This is a windy and fiery area of the zodiak, one that can stimulate dynamic creative expression, but it can also be filled with diversionary commotion and grand spectacle. These stars create a diverse polarity of energy that set Leo’s “back stage.”
An Exploration of Benetnasch along with a brief overview of an earlier time in Earth’s precessional cycle helps to provide context for this area of the zodiak.
The stars of the Great Bear are of the world powers and the use of power. The stars of the Bear express through sidereal Cancer and Leo. Benetnash is the only star expressing through the Leo-Virgo cusp and it imparts a very different quality than the other stars of the Great Bear. First, Benetnasch marking the tail of the Great Bear is somewhat misleading, as bears do not have long tails. Second, Benetnasch (Eta Ursa Major) and Dubhe (Alpha Ursa Major) do not belong to the main group of stars forming Ursa Major. (The seven primary stars of Ursa Major are also and commonly called the Big Dipper.) The five stars between Benetnasch and Dubhe of the Dipper part of the Bear form a loose cluster of stars that are moving in the same direction, while Benetnasch and Dubhe move in independent directions. Thus, these stars articulate diverse aspects of world powers and impart very different energetics.
Benatnash articulates the administrative aspects of governments and big-business political-religious figureheads. The Arabic name for Benetnasch is Alkaid, which means "the leader." Benetnasch teaches us that leadership is about facilitating the self-empowerment and freedom of others rather than about exerting manipulative force that controls others, mistaken as leadership and being in a position of power.
Classically, Benetnasch means “hired mourners.” Primary alignments with Benetnasch are often associated with calamities, death and mourning, as reported by Reinhold Ebertin in his research of primary planetary transits to this star over centuries.
I derive Benatnash as being of the old totalitarian and dictatorial administrative seat directing the affairs on Earth from the time when Earth’s pole had fallen furthest from the plane of galactic light in its ~25,000-year precessional cycle. This occurred about 6000 years ago; i.e, 90 degrees ago in Earth’s precessional cycle. This was the mid-point of the last 12,000-year period of the temporal darkness.
The changing orientation of Earth's pole to the Galactic Plane can be observed in Earth's Precessional movies.
This polar shift (occurring at 5° sidereal Virgo) also marked a phase-reversal in the precessional cycle where began a transition from matriarchal dominance to patriarchal dominance. Earth’s pole then began to precess across the Virgo-Leo cusp (aligning with Benatnash), and into late sidereal Leo. The time surrounding this last phase reversal was the darkest period in Earth’s precessional cycle due to the angular orientation of Earth’s pole tilting away from the galactic plane of unified awareness. Hence in mythical terms, Benatnash can be referred to as a “fallen lord”. This precessional phase transition led to the suppression of the matriarchal by the patriarchal. This also led to the “assumption” that Egyptian pharaohs were male, which later lead to a male papacy in Rome. This historical transition of matriarchal leadership to patriarchal dominance is also articulated by Egyptologist Stephen Mahler (“The Land of Osiris,” Adventures Unlimited Press 2001, and “From Light Into Darkness,” Adventures Unlimited Press 2005) who suggests that in pre-dynastic Egypt (Khemit), the head of the ‘high house’ was female, who then choose a consort who became her male king—and that the postulate that pharaohs were male was due to a miss-translation.

World powers functioning under the old totalitarian (Benatnash) directive have over and again demonstrated the inability to ensure the safe evolution of Earth and humanity by perpetuating continual upheavals, wars, and destruction of the peoples of the Earth throughout the ages. Also conjoining Benatnash, just into sidereal Virgo is Zavijava, which is of the innocent but naive followers of the manipulative egoic figureheads, following the self-proclaimed political religious gurus of the world.
Just south of Benatnash, and expressing through late Leo, is the constellation Canes Venatici, the barking hounds or hunting dogs, articulating that the totalitarian tactics are those of commotion and grand spectacle, ensuring the attraction of one’s attention, the lure of the false prophets and spiritual / political illusionists. Cor Caroli is the Alpha star of Canes Venatici, and conjoining is M51, the giant whirlpool galaxy. Asterion (Chara) is the Beta star of the hounds conjoining the hind of the Lion. Canes articulates the expression of the Benatnash directive simply as loud and grand global proportion spectacle, but as diversionary tactics. The paradox here is this racket is indicative of what not to follow, and more paradoxically yet, it keeps the self-proclaimed leaders from finding the real Cup (Crateris) they spout to be in possession of anyway.
It is not uncommon for such administrative powers to pretend they are doing that which supports the greater freedom of people by creating dramatic and glamorous projects (the barking greyhounds and the glamorous Giant Whirlpool Galaxy), or stage shows performed in the name of spiritual or humanitarian efforts, when what is hidden within these projections of smoke is that which is designed to maintain a position of control and manipulation over the masses who are merely blind pawns in a game of who’s following the biggest ego on stage. These self-proclaimed often call themselves Masters or Officials and lead others to address them as such without question so that they may then dictate action for and direct their follows to do their biding for their own manipulative purposes.

Wagging Denebola, the tip of the Lion's tail in late Leo, articulates the diversionary and dramatic antics common to the global stage and which often go on behind the scenes. Conjoining Alpha Antilia, the air pump, produces the hot air fueling the fire and swirling the obscuring smoke.
Our New Moon Stars
Curiously conjoining Benatnash, also at the Leo-Virgo cusp and lying south of the ecliptic, below the egoic stage setting of late sidereal Leo, is Alkes of Crateris, the cup of salvation, the golden chalice. Here we find the way, the greater spiritual fulfillment that we seek lying silently submerged under the diversionary shenanigans perpetuated by the puppet-masters directing the global stage. Most of Crateris expresses through early sidereal Virgo, but Alkes is first star of significance. Alkes means “the wine cup.”
As we transcend the egoic stage altogether, we find Avior, Epsilon Carina of Argo Navis and Delta Velorum on the sail of the Argo. These two stars are associated with the underlying spiritual truth and wisdom that guides us to our greater fulfillment and well being, a truth far hidden from the ego-driven wanna-be spiritual-political self-proclaimed authorities who spout principles they do not live. Avior, the third brightest star of Carina, articulates the true sage who often time is one without need to be on stage, one who is often found behind the scenes simply living their spiritual truth. These are often those working with transcendent currents of wisdom (Delta Velorum) that influence the surface world in genuine ways—those who make a real difference but who do not need to at personality level.
Avior is not a classical name, this French infinitive was assigned to Epsilon Carina by Her Majesty's Nautical Almanac Office in the late 1930s during the creation of the navigational almanac for the Royal Air Force. Avior means “to have.” Curiously in English, the adverb “have” is often assumed and omitted from a sentence. “I gained wisdom” rather than “I have gained wisdom.”
The mixed theme here at the cusp can indicate either genuinely wise figures or leaders, or hot–air wanna–be guru types—those spouting a lot of self important head tripping principles but without any real substance or true wisdom. The issue of discernment arises, which is required to see the illusionists from those of real spiritual and moral value; and to find the real truth hidden beneath the drama—to grasp the grail of Alkes. All of these stars invite us look behind the facades of political powers and the projects they spout to support. We must also look at our own insecurities within to see why we would follow such antics to start with rather than to cultivate the purity and integrity to claim our own grail by following the truth in our hearts. These stars can also indicate acquired wealth or power, as in the wealth of a nation.
This New Moon, aligned primarily with Alkes and Avior, inspires us to seek the underlying path to fulfillment that transcends the dramatics occurring upon the global stage and that is promised by the political figureheads spouting answers if you just vote them into positions of power. This lunar cycle requires discernment to see the way to fulfillment in our lives. It inspires us to see the difference between those that dictate life and attempt to control from those that seek to use their influence to empower others—the people. This lunar cycle brings attention to these issues in our personal lives as well—how do we administer our lives and use our power in the world. Are we living true to creating a higher path that is truly nurturing or are we acquiescing to the dictates of a crumbling old paradigm or personal modality that is oppressive and perpetuates struggle?
The New Moon is also just a few degrees from the Mercury-Makemake conjunction, which enters early sidereal Virgo, just past alignment with and conjoining Benetnash and Zavijava. They also conjoin Beta and Theta Crater, the Pin Wheel Spiral Galaxy M99 and the Super-giant Spiral Galaxy M100 in Coma Berenices.
M100 Spiral Galaxy in the Virgo Cluster
Image Credit: Hubble, NASA and STScI - The Virgo Cluster has about 2000 member galaxies, in which our Local Supercluster (also called Virgo or Coma-Virgo Supercluster) resides.
Mercury is an expressive and intellectual force. It drives our need to organize, rationalize, categorize, and assemble our world into a coherent understanding. It is the significator of the intellect. It governs our sequential and logistical processes, our learning and reasoning abilities, our mental focus and concentration, our language skills, reading and writing, and our communication skills, how we speak and articulate. Mercury effects some motor skills associated with coordination and dexterity; and governs the neurological system, mental processes and memory.
Makemake (pronounced MAH-keh MAH-keh - “e” is pronounced “ay” in Polynesian) is the Polynesian name for the creator god of humanity in the mythology of the South Pacific island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Makemake was recently discovered on March 31, 2005. Based upon an exploration of Makemake’s orbital parameters and its recent role during the 2008-2011 economic turn, Makemake appears to bring attention to leadership issues regarding the administration of resources; and in areas involving economics and finance. It may also impel strategic planning and enterprising action to create environmental conditions that ensure a healthy, prosperous and abundant life for groups or for the people in general. Makemake may also act to sort out those who are truly worthy of being in a leadership role from those who are not.
More about Makemake.
Makemake’s northern position in Coma Berenices brings attention to the larger and more embracing issues facing humanity regarding the global economy and its need for restructuring. Mercury and Makemake bring focus to the logistical aspects regarding leadership in the administration of resources in our lives and in the world. They also impel communication regarding financial issues and the use of our resources.
Uranus and Pluto make their exact square on September 18-19, the second of seven triggers in the 2012-2015 Uranus-Pluto Square, just before the Crescent Moon. Pallas made it second conjunction with Uranus a few days ago in the previous lunar cycle. This intense energetic which started with the first square in late June will start to loosen up for a while until May of 2013 when we approach the third trigger and the heliocentric square in November 2013, which creates the actual square occurring in the current 138-year Uranus-Pluto synodic cycle that began on January 7, 1966.
The pressure and motivation for radical and creative action to change occurring from June through September 2012 is merely the opening stimulus for what may become far more catalytic in 2013. The period from now through May 2013 provides opportunity to lay the foundation and get into position for major, opportunistic and wide-sweeping shifts starting in mid-2013.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, The Crescent Moon through the Full Moon is an ideal time to work with the Pluto and Uranus audio meditations. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.
Dark cloud in the Southern Cross
"The swirling patterns of gas in this image came as a complete surprise to astronomers. They are located thousands of light years away from Earth in the constellation Crux, the Southern Cross. Crux is such a prominent constellation in the southern sky that it features on the flags of seven countries, including Australia and New Zealand."

The Crescent Moon occurs on September 19 in mid-sidereal Libra. Conjoining stars include Acrux and Becrux of the Southern Cross, and the Kappa Crucis Star Cluster (The Jewel Box); Menkent of Centaurus; and Alphecca of the Northern Crown.
The Centaur, who stands on the galactic equator over the Southern Cross, is protector of the Southern Cross and benevolent teacher of its principles.
Menkent, the head of the Centaur, embodies the wisdom of the Centaur. Menkent imparts the Centaur's teachings about the soul's incarnational process and how there is a choice to take responsibility to either free ourselves from the stepping into or perpetuating our patterns of the past or return to the pure intent of the soul and claim a greater freedom of being, articulated by Alphecca and the Northern Crown.

The four stars of the Southern Cross (Cruces) embody the original cardinal virtues seemly lost to most of humanity. This is the cardinality (pure intent) of the soul—embodied by the Kappa Crucis Cluster, the Jewel Box. The Southern Cross embodies the pure intent of the soul before the aberrations, confusions, attitudes, and beliefs incurred by the soul throughout its entire incarnational sojourn.
The Centaur teaches the right use of will, the right way to live to attain self-mastery and evolutionary freedom. The Centaur teaches that it is essential to seek the original cardinality of the soul and live it. This is to claim that cardinality as our foundation as prerequisite to reach beyond the entrapments we find our selves in, the entrapments of duality-based experience—to claim the Northern Crown. The Northern Crown inspires us to attain our evolutionary freedom and fulfillment.
Our Crescent Moon brings inspiration to return to or to re-access our pure intent and life purpose beyond any entrapments or patterns in which we may find ourselves. It motivates us to reach for a greater level of fulfillment and equilibrium in our lives from this pure intent.
The Sun conjoins Makemake on September 20-21, which marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Makemake synodic cycle. The Sun-Makemake conjunction is an ideal time to gain more insight into the nature of Makemake’s influence in our lives.
Makemake has been crossing the sidereal Leo-Virgo cusp over the last few years. Saturn and Makemake conjoined in opposition to Uranus in late sidereal Leo in late 2008, at the time when the global financial crisis took hold. Makemake remained a key player in opposition to Uranus for a few years thereafter (presented in the 2008-2011 Timeline). Makemake is just starting to move into the purer qualities of sidereal Virgo now that it has entered the Coma Berenices star field, and will fully do so as it passes the North Galactic Pole (NGP) at 5° sidereal Virgo in a couple more years, and more so as it makes its way over the Super Galactic Center (~7°).
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on September on the Gate of God in sidereal Sagittarius (~5°). The Equinox occurs just a few hours before, with the Sun on the anit-vernal point (~5° sidereal Virgo). The First Quarter Moon’s placement on Earth’s Precessional Cross activates our portal of evolutionary change, and it adds significant energy to our stimulus to action.
Earth's Precessional Cross
The Gate of God-Moon also conjoins Al Nasl of Sagittarius, the Trifid and Lagoon Nebulas in Sag; Nu Hercules; and Nu and Tau Ophiuchus.
Sagittarius, stargate to Galactic Center, is commonly referred to as the Sagittarian Centaur, Zen Archer, or the First Horseman whose arrow points toward Galactic Center. Sagittarius, both a galactic constellation and an ecliptical constellation (lying upon the galactic equator and the ecliptic) oversees the "Gate of God" (5° sidereal Sag)—the primary fiducial (marking point) not only of Earth ~25,000 year precessional cycle, but also of the sidereal zodiak. Sagittarius is the Galactic City of Light responsible for the higher spiritual education about our galactic heritage and the evolution of the soul.
The intersection of the galactic plane (our Galaxy's equatorial plane) and the ecliptic of the Sun (Earth's orbital plane) creates the fixed axis of Earth's Precessional Cross. The "Gate of God" and its opposite point, the "Gate of Man," are the nodes of this axis in the ecliptic. The "Gate of God," astronomically called the Galactic Equatorial Node (GEN), is an ideal reference point for the sidereal zodiak (defining 5° sidereal Sag) (see the Galactic Ayanamsa.) The Gate of God brings emphasis to soul's greater mission and purpose on Earth; and to the precessionally driven "evolutionary cycle of the soul." The relationship of the moving vernal axis, currently square the galactic axis, defines the timing of evolutionary cycle of soul consciousness on Earth, which peaked in late 1998 (see Timing of Earth’s Precessional Cross). The Sun’s position at the equinoxes and the solstices is now slowing drifting past aspect to the Galactic axis of the precessional cross at the rate of Earth’s precession, now 00° 09’ in aspect.

The ecliptic plane is the soul (solar) plane for our planet, and it resonates at this level. The galactic plane is of the greater galactic awareness in which our local soul-level plane nests. It is through the nodal axis of these intersecting planes where a transference of galactic awareness occurs with soul-plane consciousness.
The Gate of God lies slightly north of the Galactic Center along the galactic plane. This is one reason why this node is of primary significance. The Gate of God brings awareness to the incarnating soul's greater mission and purpose on Earth; and to the precessionally driven "evolutionary cycle of the soul." The relationship of the moving vernal axis, which is currently square the galactic equatorial axis at this time in Earth’s ~25,000-year precessional cycle, defines the timing and characteristic of the evolutionary cycle of soul consciousness on Earth. The First Quarter Moon’s placement on the Gate of God can stimulate a greater level of perceptual awareness.
Al Nasl, the tip of the arrow of the Zen Archer, which points toward the Heart Center of our Galaxy, conjoins the Gate of God. Al Nasl and conjoining stars inspire us to hold undaunted focus upon our goals and our greater life purpose in the higher spiritual interest of our souls. Al Nasl inspires us to pierce the veils of illusion and hit the mark of our highest ideals and dreams.
Our First Quarter Moon impels action upon our greater ideals, visions and realizations with awareness of a greater spiritual truth. It invites us to become undauntedly focused upon our goals and to act from the stance of a Zen Archer to achieve them.
Ceres lies opposite the Moon on the Gate of Man in sidereal Gemini, thus forming a Moon-Sun-Ceres T-square. This impels expression in the world from our greater soul-level / spiritual guidance or truth for our greater nourishment and for that of humanity.
Earth and Pallas begin their new 450-day synodic cycle on September 24-25, a day before Gibbous Moon. Earth and Uranus begin their new synodic cycle on September 29, hours before the Full Moon, which also conjoins Uranus. The Gibbous Moon through the Full Moon brings strong emphasis to the Uranus-Pluto Square with stimulus to action for revolutionary change.
Mature Pallas expresses as the artful use of creative intelligence for solution beyond duality’s paradox. Mature Pallas expresses from the balance of the masculine and feminine principles, and from beyond the judgments of one side verses the other. Pallas invites the integration of our past experience in duality—from having been on both sides of the fence at one time or another—and to claim that experience as wisdom. It invites us to use that wisdom as a foundation to express nonjudgmental courageous solution beyond life’s paradoxes created by opposing forces.
Pallas is applier and defender of wisdom and truth; the expression of intellect in craft and inventiveness. Mature Pallas accepts personal responsibility for having co-created our experience; i.e. the resolution of victim consciousness. Pallas has the strategic capacity to link, unify and bring together; and has wonderful perceptual skills for planning and public relations. Pallas often has a prominent placement in the charts or artists. Pallas significantly effects emotional and physical equilibrium.
Pallas issues can express as spiteful withdrawal, which ultimately can manifest as self-sabotage due to judgments about use of power or awry creative / sexual energy. It can also express as righteousness, judgment and invalidation of opposite or alternative views, lashing out with a vengeance. Pallas issues can express as an imbalance in the masculine and feminine aspects of self; sexuality issues, dyslexia and perceptual problems. Pallas governs the Liver / Spleen balance (violet / red), which is reflexed to the equilibrium and dizziness centre of the brain.
The previous Earth-Pallas synodic cycle began on July 29, 2011 in sidereal Capricorn. It was presented in the July 1, 2011 Lunar Planner.
Pallas is now just past the Vernal Point (~5° sidereal Pisces) by about 2°, which defines the nature of our new Earth-Pallas theme. Again, attention is brought to the greater evolutionary transition occurring for Earth and humanity.
Conjoining stars include Diphda and Iota Cetus; and Alpha Sculptoris and the Sculptor Galaxy. Also influencing are Scheat of Pegasus and the Eta Horologium.
Diphda (Beta) (and Iota) of Cetus the sea monster create the thrashing tail of the techno-bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. Cetus is the sea monster about to devour Andromeda in the story of Andromeda and the Royal family. Diphda creates a strong emotional turbulence, bringing the potential to get knocked down and thrashed around due to the inability to lift one’s self (fly) above (Algenib-wing of Pegasus) the dramatics of the intense psycho-emotional forces of the human world and its bureaucracies. The stars of Cetus comprise a principal part of the theme of sidereal Pisces.
Conjoining Diphda are Eta Cepheus and Eta Horologium. They impel a sense of impending time and the need for aid to slip by the dangers of the trashing tail. They can also indicate an emotional barrier to cross or an emotional tension to relinquish. They make us aware that emotional clarity is of issue.
Scheat of Pegasus is one of the four stars of the Great Square of Pegasus and it enters the ecliptic at ~5° sidereal Pisces, conjoining the "Primordial Origin,” which is the most northern point along the galactic equator from the ecliptic plane. South of this point is the South Galactic Pole (SGP), the foundation of life. This is also the current location of the Vernal Point in Earth’s ~25,000-year precessional cycle.
Scheat reveals the essence of early sidereal Pisces and the very foundation of life—water. Scheat brings our attention to our life force and the use of it. Scheat also brings attention to the waters of life and to the purity of our body fluids, especially our "lymph," which means Flowing Spirit of the Living Waters of Life. Scheat pertains to all waters of the world, but also to body fluids, especially water's relationship to the purification of the physical vehicle and the body's requirement for refined life force energies to express through the fluids molecular matrix. Scheat also brings attention to our blood, sacred sexual fluids and saliva, as well as to the types of fluids that we bring into our bodies. The purity and movement of the lymph and blood is not only essential for the elimination of toxins, but is also required for the transference of subtle light energies of cosmic intelligence (our soul's essence) to express through our genetic coding. The more light we express the truer we express the vibrancy of our souls, and the more life giving spirit substance we embody. This is why peoples throughout history have sought Living Water—healing springs flowing endlessly from the ground of their own accord, water said to bring immortality—the word immortality here meaning "not being subject to premature degeneration and death." Alignments with Scheat ask us to consider what we are doing with our primordial life force, how we are using our Chi / Xi, our primal energy. Scheat also asks us to integrate our primordial essence with our spiritual essence—to realize they are one flowing life-giving force.
The Sculptor Galaxy NGC 253 is the brightest member of the Sculptor group of galaxies, which resides around the South Galactic Pole (thus sometimes called the "South Polar Group"). The Sculptor group of galaxies is perhaps the nearest to our Local Group of galaxies, to which the Milky Way belongs. NGC 253 is also one of the brightest galaxies beyond our Local Group, lying about 2° from the South Galactic Pole. NGC 253 is sometimes called the Silver Coin Galaxy.
Image Credit: "Todd Boroson NOAO/AURA/NSF - National Optical Astronomy Observatory / Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy / National Science Foundation"
Here at 5° sidereal Pisces we are concerned with the origins of life on Earth, the creation of the human form, and water, the very foundation of life. The South Galactic Pole (SGC), the foundation of the galactic plane, resides in Sculptoris, the sculptor’s studio, and the Sculptor Group of Galaxies. Alpha Sculptor and the Sculptor Galaxy conjoin and embrace the South Galactic Pole, and they articulate the formation of human life from the primordial waters of life, the molding of clay into human form. Although a recent addition to stellar mythical imagery, aptly Sculptor is from the Latin sculpere, meaning to cut (sculpt)—in this case, to sculpt life itself. Alpha Sculptor stimulates our need to create our lives from the primordial forces of life.
This new Earth-Pallas synodic cycle invites us to examine how we are using our life force and applying our creative intelligence to create the lives and world we want. It inspires creative solution to address the turbulent waters of human experience and to find ways to lift ourselves beyond the techno-bureaucratic monster we have created that perpetuates struggle and human suffering for many people. It brings attention to compassionate social justice, human rights and equality amongst all people.
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.
Our Gibbous Moon occurs on September 26 in late sidereal Capricorn. Conjoining stars include Sualocin and Gamma Delphinus; and Gamma Gruis. Also of influence is Nashira of Capricorn.
Delphinus expresses through the last decan of sidereal Capricorn, merging the primary essence of these heavenly angelic guides—the Dolphins—with the future-oriented visionary Aquarian influence that permeates later sidereal Capricorn. The oracular angelic guides of Delphi merge and meander with the future-oriented visionary Aquarian influence through the rock-hard conforming stoic past of Capricorn and spring from the ground as prophetic life carrying waters—a flow of guiding wisdom not otherwise available by mortal efforts alone, a flow that leads us from the crystallized into the unbounded future to become.
Sualocin and Rotanev of Delphinus offer guidance for those willing to trust in this greater guiding intelligence, guidance greater than our personal efforts can generate alone. The Dolphins, an expression of angelic dominion, are guides for the wayward, as old salts know. They reveal the way to make safe passage to our destination, to our greater nourishment and fulfillment, provided we listen to and participate in the serendipity of life.
To experience in the serendipity of life requires we surrender the pre-occupations of reasoning mind, those of worry and our need to define and control, of what we "think" we "should" be doing. It instead requires us to be attentive to and trust any subtle impulses we may feel at any given moment—to move with the Divine Intelligence that permeates and fluidly guides our lives. Here lies the art of getting out of our own way to allow creative solutions that lead us from the conforming bounds of limited mind.
Gruis the crane enters the ecliptic from the south as an underling and eloquently supportive influence to the last decan of sidereal Capricorn. Gruis as the stork, is carrier of bodies of knowledge, information, and news associated with new life and new beginnings. The stars of Gruis impart mental brilliance and grammatical expression, especially in the areas of law and natural history.
The last decan of Capricorn is of libraries, courts, publishing houses, literary agencies, or where any legalities are formulated, agreed upon and concretized. Here lies the constructive character of Saturn, which is at home in Capricorn.
Our Gibbous Moon inspires us to become clear-headed, concise and practical in our pursuits in life, and to the articulation of plans and paths to get from here to there, especially regarding business legalities and related literary dealings. It inspires us to be open to receive guidance and help from outside sources, and to trust.
Earth and Uranus begin a new synodic cycle in sidereal Pisces on September 29, a few degrees from the Earth-Pallas Synod. Conjoining stars include Algenib of Pegasus; Alpha Reticuli; Alpha Lacerta; Eta Cepheus; and Eta Horologium.
Uranus placement in the chart reveals where and how we break from the conformity of the past. Uranus is radical, spontaneous, and electrical. It supports the expression of our uniqueness and originality.
Uranus, in its clear and evolved expression, brings the ability to spontaneously change and to create new frontiers in experience and consciousness. It is the true pioneer, uninhibited by convention and establishment (Saturn). Uranus inspires the expression of our unique individuality in radical confidence. Uranus instills a future-orientation and humanitarian focus; and embodies quickness and alertness of consciousness often producing a lightning-like creative mind when prominently aspected. Uranus provides an ability to work with higher orders and principles—providing a higher-mind prowess for telepathy and all super-consciousness functions and mechanisms. Uranus instills an appreciation of excellence and perfection. It is the applier of the higher sciences and inspires new discoveries in technology and consciousness.
Uranus in its chronic expression can manifest as fear to change, to be spontaneous, or to take radical steps. It can express as judgment of other’s uniqueness and gifts, or of one’s own eccentricities and uniqueness; which covers a fear of being accepted or rejected, of being persecuted, and thus expresses as seeking sameness as a means for gaining acceptance. It can manifest as expressing other’s truths and philosophies rather than one’s own. An acute or hyper Uranian energy can express as instability, erraticism and hyperactivity, with an inability to follow through—ungrounded electrically.
Associated bio-energy centers include: Nervous system and higher brain centers—mental ability, prefrontal and frontal lobes (capacity for forward thinking and to envision new alternatives); neurological and synoptic circuitry, bio-electrical and light impulses.
Algenib, Gamma Pegasus, tip of this horse's wing, is one of the four stars of the Great Square of Pegasus. Algenib is a fortuitous star and marks the center of sidereal Pisces. Algenib articulates our need or capacity to lift ourselves above Cetus, the techno bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness, that is, above the psychic-emotional fear-based realm of life. This does not mean in denial of it, but in the personal clarity to not be entangled or caught in it. Algenib asks us to refine the entire spectrum of self, our mental, emotional and physical density, so as to become vibrationaly light enough to lift ourselves above the psycho-emotional dramatics and entrapments of human life.
North of the Pegasus Great Square, and also extending through the first half of sidereal Pisces is Lacerta, the primordial Lizard, gate-keeper protecting the entry-way to Earth's precessional polar arc and to the "Primordial Origin" of humankind, which is the beginning point in Earth's precessional cycle, the origin point in the evolutionary cycle of the soul. Lacerta embodies the knowledge of primordial and elemental forces that mold consciousness itself into organic form; awareness that precedes thought itself.
Alpha and Beta Lacerta mark the head or intelligence of the Lizard. They lie in mid-sidereal Pisces and conjoin Algenib of the Great Square of Pegasus—an empowered point in sidereal Pisces. Alpha and Beta Lacerta, Along with Algenib, articulate the capacity rise above and gain mastery over the psychic-emotional forces common to the Piscean world—the ability to participate above any entrapment such forces can create.
Alpha Reticuli, which resides in the very southern heavens, conjoins Alpha and Beta Lacerta (and Algenib). Alpha Reticuli is the foci of the reticule, the sacred geometry of the DNA refined to crystal clarity, the underlying rhomboid or diamond. Alignments with Alpha and Beta Lacerta and Alpha Reticuli stimulate the reptilian brain, governing our instinctual behavior, and the source-resonance of the human DNA, which also indicates how the human DNA is susceptible to psychic manipulation.
To rise above such manipulative forces requires that we fully embrace the primordial aspects of life by infusing the high spiritual awareness of the soul in and through our entwined genetics of physicality. Without the embodiment of soul awareness, literally within the human DNA, and capacity to express the power of that awareness, one remains vulnerable to and lost in the psychic-emotional collective resonance of human consciousness.
The real "secret" or mystery (knowledge) revealed here is that ability to function above psychic-emotional forces is not a mere mind trip, something we do in the head, in just how we think. It requires a surrender of the emotional tension or resistance we hold to allow an opening within the human vessel to infuse soul's coding into the human DNA coding—illuminating the human DNA with soul awareness—to transform carbon into diamond. The DNA is the urn of the soul, the vessel through which soul expresses.
This annual Earth-Uranus synodic cycle invites inventiveness to address social issues and provides inspiration to create revolutionary change in our lives that lifts us from the entrapments common to our societal modalities of living. It can also bring attention to health issues and to the air quality in the areas we live. Smoke and smog can keep a fog upon the aura maintaining illusion or an inability to see clearly. Oxygen deprivation to the cells will keep the nutrients within the cells of the body from igniting into the refined forces of light necessary to bring illumination into the structure of consciousness, the DNA. Algenib of Pegasus is of the breath, of oxygenating the waters of life, of the life giving air necessary for us to breathe while in the emotional waters of life.
The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some is a New World for those who realize it is.
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
The Full Moon of September 29-30 occurs in mid-sidereal Pisces. It conjoins Pallas and Uranus a few hours before. The Full Moon conjoins Uranus by 1°, thus with the same Algenib theme as the new Earth-Uranus synodic cycle.
The Sun and Moon form a T-square with Pluto creating a potent Full Moon, again bringing emphasis to the Uranus-Pluto square of Revolution and Revelation. This also creates a strong focus to the expression of Pluto. Pluto in Sagittarius is a sobering revealer of a greater truth, and it will destruct the false beliefs we adhere to. Pluto motivates exploration into new realms of life and challenges the morals we live by. It demands we move into a greater freedom, and working in cahoots with Uranus, it will create the changes in our lives and in our world that drive us to find it. The Full Moon brings realization to our Alkes lunar theme and expands our perception about the greater fulfillment we seek.
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.
The Disseminating Moon occurs on October 3 in just into sidereal Taurus conjoining the South Lunar Node. Conjoining stars include Algol of Perseus; Segin of Cassiopeia; Zaurak of Eridanus, and Alpha Caelum. The Moon is also exalted in early sidereal Taurus (~3°).
Sidereal Taurus is of earthy and material matters: of building, business, construction, the home and family, property, stability and balance; is fixed in its ways, industrious, persistent, determined, laborious and enterprising.
Perseus expresses through the cusp and first decan (10 degrees) of sidereal Taurus. Algol is the head of of Medusa held in Perseus’ hand. Algol enters the ecliptic at ~1° sidereal Taurus.
In the story of the Royal Family, Queen Cassiopeia, with boastful arrogance, proclaimed that her daughter, the Princess Andromeda, was of far greater beauty than Poseidon's Nereids, the nymphs of the sea. Poseidon (a greater authoritarian power) responded by sending Cetus the Sea Monster to ravage the shores of Ethiopia, which Queen Cassiopeia and King Cepheus ruled.
King Cepheus was advised to sacrifice Andromena to Cetus to appease Poseidon. In acquiescence, the princess was chained to the rocks by the sea to be devoured by Cetus.
Perseus is the hero who slays Medusa, the Gorgon with seven snakes for hair, and then frees the princess Andromeda from her unfortunate fate.

On his way back to Seriphos after slaying Medusa, Perseus stops in Ethiopia, the kingdom ruled by King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia where he learns of the Andromeda’s entrapment. In one version he flies over Cetus upon Pegasus, in another using his winged sandals. Either way he has the head of slain Medusa in his hand (Algol at cuspal Taurus), which he reveals to Cetus. Seeing Medusa’s head, Cetus turns to stone and shatters into the sea. He then frees Andromeda, returning her safely to the gracious appreciation of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Perseus marries Princess Andromeda.
Perseus creates the city and rules a kingdom that bores the Persian world. He and Andromeda bore a family as well, two daughters and seven sons. Hercules was descendent of Perseus and Andromeda through one of their sons.
Algol, Beta Persei, marking the cusp of sidereal Taurus, is the head of slain Medusa held in the hand of Perseus, also the Arabic Demon Star. Of the Gorgons, Medusa, who is crowned with seven snakes for hair, represents the chaotic and aberated self-defeating forces within self, driven by fear. It is fear that freezes us in our tracks, the force that turns us to stone. Perseus cannot look at Medusa directly lest he will turn to stone. He instead uses his shield to see her reflection. This mythically articulates our need to look at that which we hide behind to see the demon apparently outside of self, created by our own fear. Algol indicates an initiatory and experiential process is required or is at hand. This process begins by slaying our deepest fears to claim our true personal power, or be forever frozen in our tracks unable to claim our fulfillment and complete our greater purpose on Earth. Alignments with Algol can draw a relentless assault of experience that can block or divert us from our purpose until we realize the monster is within—the fear based reflection of self. Algol forces us to look at self rather than at the apparent monsters in the outer world—to recognize they are of our own projection, to own and embrace the demon within. Slaying our fear establishes an inner neurological order that in turn allows us to take empowered action in the physical world. Perseus, the hero, embodies the essence of establishing order.
Conjoining Algol from the south and also contributing to the cusp of sidereal Taurus is Caelum, the sculptor's chisel. Caelum articulates our need to forge through matter, the laborious methodical experiential process required in the physical world to overcome our trials and manifest our visions. Caelum articulates our need to sculpt our lives, chiseled away at a bit at a time just as the sculptor chisels rock to reveal the sculpture waiting to emerge.
Just prior to the Taurian cusp, in late sidereal Aries, is Zaurak of Eridanus, a point of pause along the initiatory river of life where we must hold and trust our own inner light because the path immediately ahead is not entirely visible. Zaurak conjoins northern Segin, the last of the principal stars of Cassiopeia, which adds an opinionated, penetrating and expressive nature to late Aries and the Taurian cusp. Segin also imparts an embracing watchful perception, especially in dangerous or threatening situations.
Late sidereal Aries and cuspal Taurus can be penetrating, sharp and cutting, forthright and criticizing in its expression. There is a wide-spectrum sensitivity to pending or potential danger, which also creates an active and responsive nature to threats of any sort.
Our Demonstrable Moon impels physical action, even heroic, and to recognize that to overcome the apparently insurmountable barriers we face, we must conquer the fear within that sustains them or that keeps us frozen in our tracks. This may seem like an initiatory process, but is one that we must step through. Action in the world is essential to manifest our cup of fulfillment.
The Moon’s conjunction with the South Lunar Node requires that we look at any fear-based past patterns that keep us from moving forward, and to apply our selves with assertive action in new self-empowered ways in our relationships and in how we interrelate (Juno-Mars-North Lunar Node in early sidereal Scorpio). Concretized or formalized communication is also highlighted (due to Mercury-Saturn aspecting).
Jupiter begins its retrograde on October 4 in latter sidereal Taurus (over enterprising and entrepreneurial Orion). The Moon conjoins Jupiter a day later. This begins the transition from the previous Earth-Jupiter synodic cycle that to the new one to come. The new cycle starts in the midst of Jupiter’s retrograde on December 3, 2012 conjoining Aldebaran of Taurus. Jupiter will return direct on January 30, 2013, at which time the new cycle will fully engage. The previous Earth-Jupiter synodic cycle began on October 29, 2011 in sidereal Aries. It was presented in the October 26, 2011 Lunar Planner.
Jupiter’s retrograde (October 4, 2012 through January 30, 2013) redirects our focus. Pursuing outward expansion and mobilization now turns toward an inward process, impelling us to look within to discover or develop a deeper philosophy and meaning about our lives, and to bring forth a deeper level of our own abundance to express into the world.
Jupiter's retrograde in sidereal Taurus engages an introspective process about our material resoures, and how we are using our resources to support our fundamental needs in life. It may intiate a process of reevaluating our enterprising pursuits and getting clear on how we are taking a leadership role in our own lives to provide for self, home and family.
This energetic will express in the area of your life revealed by where in your natal chart Jupiter is transiting.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, the couple of days leading into the October 4 station is an ideal time to work with theJupiter audio meditation. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The Last Quarter Moon creates our “inner need to initiate change” in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle’s last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on October 8 in sidereal Gemini.
The Moon conjoins Mekbuda of Gemini, Sirius of Canis Major and Canopus Carina of Argo Navis.
Mekbuda, Zeta Gemini, marks the left knee of Pollux, the ambassador. Mekbuda inspires change and transformation, and imparts an assertive nature to right that which is unjust, unfair or out of balance. Mekbuda conjoins Sirius and Canopus.
Sirius, Alpha Canis Major, is the impetuous and blazing Great World Teacher, knowledge-holder of ancient hermetic wisdom. Significant alignments with Sirius can bring teachings, lessons, or events of a global or profound proportion, those that can catalyze tremendous evolutionary change. Although Sirius is not at all of a malevolent nature, such events or lessons can seemingly be imposed upon us without the compassion we might otherwise prefer. Sirius, due to its head strong and authoritarian nature, can also indicate the need to set things free so they can take their own evolutionary course rather than forcefully manipulating a scenario or the experience of others for some specific outcome based on a sense of righteousness or self-importance—thinking we know what is right for another or that we are responsible to define another's life experience—a miss-placed sense of responsibility. Here lies need to learn about boundaries and to guide but release our offspring, siblings, partners, or creations to their own destinies. Expressing through sidereal Gemini, Sirius' influence is often experienced in the world of commerce, high intensity intellectual communication, information, and the exchange of it. Sirius inspires a quest for liberty and human rights.
Conjoining Sirius from the southern heavens is Canopus, Alpha Carina of Argo Navis, lying along the galactic plane. Argo Navis classically is the ship in the story of Jason and the Argonauts, a derivation of the older Sumerian story, Gilgamesh and his fifty Sirian warriors. The Argo lies reverse in the heavens, stern to the east, bow to the west, along the galactic equator, thus associated with that which moves retrograde in the heavens, the greater precessional process on Earth, the evolutionary cycle of the soul. The stars of the Argo generally are associated with evolutionary matters for the entire planetary system, and for all souls evolutionary growth and fulfillment.
Canopus is the second brightest star in the heavens after Sirius. Sirius is relatively close to us at 8.6 light years. Canopus, of another galactic sector altogether, is over 312 light years distant. As a galactic equatorial star, and as director / navigator of the Argo, of greater evolutionary matters for our solar system, Canopus sets the subtle cosmic currents that guide our lives and support us to change and grow, seeing to the greater evolutionary fulfillment of all souls and ensuring proper evolutionary outcomes. Canopus also brings awareness to the repercussions of global events and how they affect the greater surrounding cosmology. An older derivation of Canopus is the Egyptian Kahi Nub, meaning "Golden Earth"—representative of the vision held for our beloved Earth by this helmsman.
Sirius and Canopus are both significantly associated with evolutionary affairs of Earth and humanity, and so can herald potent global experience.
Canopus (along with Miaplacidus, BEta Carinae) is director / guide of all astronomical-Earthgrid spacetime matters—including all interdimensional, intraterrestrial, and intraoceanic Earthgrid portal work. Because of its brightness and southern strategic location, Canopus is also a principal stellar reference commonly used for navigating interplanetary spacecraft.
From Allen (Star Names, Their Lore and Meaning): "Our name for it (Canopus) is that of the chief pilot of the fleet of Menelaos, who, on his return form the destruction of Troy, 1183 B.C., touched at Egypt, where, twelve miles to the northeastward from Alexandria, Canopus died and was honored, according to Scylax, by a monument raised by his grateful master, giving his name to the city and to this splendid star... Ancient Canopus (the city) is now in ruins ...it was here from the terraced walls of Serapeum, the temple of Serapis, that Ptolemy made his observations." Canopus is associated with Gilgamesh, Noah, and Jason. Canopus in older planispheres is generally illustrated on one of the rudders on the stern of the Argo.
From friend, colleague, and siderealist, Andrés Takra: "Since Canopus lies near Columba, the Dove, the Holy Spirit, the symbol of the Future, according to D.H. Lawrence, the great and visionary English writer and painter, I predict that in the next human era, which will be a Golden Age, Argo Navis—and especially Carina—will play a role of extraordinary relevance. Moreover, being close to Crux Australis and to the South Pole, Argo Navis is another allusion to the future rebirth of spirituality on our planet, the resurrection of sunken lands, the future development of the SOUTH, the changes in climate and environment in that part of the globe (Tierra del Fuego—the southern most land of Chile—and the South Pole / Lake Vostok) and to the landing on Earth of interplanetary spaceships, as well as of intraoceanic and intraterrestrial flying saucers and their strange occupants!!!"
Our Last Quarter Moon may catalyze inner realizations about our need to take an active role in directing our own evolutionary courses and that of humanity. It may bring realizations of our need to make changes in our lives with consideration for the drastically changing economic climate and the shift in commerce from the industrial age (where individualism, being big, and market dominance is the focus) into the social age (where mutual cooperation, collaboration and co-creation amongst business and community to better the human condition is the focus).
The Sun conjoins recently discovered Haumea in sidereal Virgo on October 11. This marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Haumea synodic cycle presented in the March 22, 2012 Lunar Planner. This is a good day for realizations about the nature of Haumea’s influence in our lives, which I suggest impels us to create a new birth in our lives and in our world.
The Dwarf Planet Haumea (pronounced how-MAY-ah) was discovered on Dec 28, 2004. Haumea has two moons, Hi’iaka (pronounced HEE-’ee-AH-kah) and Namaka (pronounced nah-MAH-kah).
Haumea is the goddess of childbirth and fertility in Hawaiian mythology. Her many children sprang from different parts of her body. She takes many different forms and has experienced many different rebirths. Martha Warren Beckworth suggests the name Haumea more naturally comes from Hanaumea, meaning “sacred birth.” Hence we have an essence of “purity” or a birth of specialness, the ability to produce a fresh or clear state of consciousness.
Haumea’s propensity is to intercede with dynamic motion from a state of equilibrium and poise to support a new birth in consciousness, especially the use of the fundamental primordial forces of life. Haumea also appears to motivate action to reorient world powers’ militaristic destructive use of power and resources into a nurturing force that supports and protects life, home and family; and that aids humanity’s emergence into a spiritually and primordial aware state of being. At a personal level, Haumea inspires the application of our personal attributes and resources for these same principles.
More about Haumea.
The Pluto-Haumea Synodic Cycle of 1955
Pluto and Haumea began a new synodic cycle in 1955 in early sidereal Leo, with the Pluto-conjunction occurring throughout 1954-1955. People born at that time of or after the Pluto-Haumea synod have entered into an entirely new cycle and energetic. A Pluto-Haumea synod is a very rare event, with the next to occur in about 3500 A.D., thus creating a very long cycle (~1545 years). The theme of this Pluto-Haumea cycle, under the auspices of the Head of the Lion, and for those generations following the 1955 synod, in general, inspires a new birth in consciousness built upon integrity in leadership, with impetus to deconstruct the old form of leadership. Those born in the several years preceding the 1955 synod are paving the way, creating the opening for this new birth in in consciousness and new expression in leadership to emerge.
Transiting Haumea and The United States
Haumea’s current position in sidereal Virgo, which is also north of the ecliptic at the foot of Bootes, conjoins the United States chart’s (1176 Declaration) Saturn. It thus is impelling a re-birth from what has been the establish structure of the U.S., to clarify or purify this structure, and to reorient the fundamental purpose of the U.S. as a more nurturing force in the world rather than one focused on militaristic dominance. Haumea moves rather slowly, thus conjoining the U.S. Saturn over several years.
The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.
The Balsamic Moon occurs on October 11-12 in sidereal Leo conjoining Orcus.
Orcus was discovered on Feb 19, 2004. Although Orcus is a bit smaller than Pluto, Orcus has a nearly identical orbital size, orbital period (year), and orbital inclination. However, Orcus’ orbital plane’s orientation in our solar system is tilted in the opposite direction from Pluto’s. For this reason, I tend to think of Orcus as Pluto’s compliment. Just as Pluto has Charon as its primary moon, so too does Orcus have a moon, Vanth, discovered on Nov 13, 2005. Just as Pluto and Charon are considered a dual planetary system, so too is Orcus and Vanth.
Although new to the astrological world and thus with an astrological influence not yet fully apprehended, based on Orcus’ orbital parameters, Orcus seems to address how we are applying our personal will for the greater well being of all humanity; how we are contributing to human society. Orcus motivates the use of our day-to-day lives, our daily activity for our souls’ greater purpose on Earth. Orcus seems to express a quiet profundity, almost unnoticed as it serves us to get in touch with our deeper soul essence and purpose—the oaths of our souls, our soul-level agreements, what we are really doing here on Earth.
Orcus and Uranus began a new synodic cycle in March of 1947 in late sidereal Taurus and Orcus then crossed its south node (moving from north to south of the ecliptic) and the Gate of Man in early sidereal Gemini, in the early 1950s. Thus Orcus is of extra-significance for those born throughout this period.
More about Orcus.
The Orcus-Moon conjoins Alpha and Gamma of the Sextant; Al Kaphrah of Ursa Major; and the Vela Pulsar of Argo Navis.
South of the Lion is the Sextant. The primary stars are Alpha, Beta, and Gamma Sextans. The sextant is a navigational instrument used to determine the "vertical" position (angular distance) of the sun, moon or stars from the horizon. The Sextant’s stars reveals our need to reassess our position or situation, to reorient ourselves, and to take a new tack toward our goals in life with conscious consideration for the changing evolutionary winds and currents upon which we must navigate. On a mundane level this can be in regard to changing our fundamental approach or path in life. On a greater scale, this can be in regard to changing allegiance of our energies from the outer world, self-sacrificing to diversionary forces or currents in the world around us, to the vertical integrity of our inner soul / source directive and truth.
When sailing, changing winds require the application of personal will to change the boat's tack to continue toward our longer-term destination. This requires the assessment of our current position and heading, and of the changing conditions around us—the weather, waves, winds and currents—to responsibly set a new tack along our journeys in life.

Al Kaphrah of Ursa Major extends from Megrez and Phecda (Phad); and the hind legs of the Great Bear extend from Al Kaphrah, which forms the hind feet of the Bear, Alula Borealis and Alula Australis, and Tania Borealis and Tana Australis. Al Kaphrah imparts a long-standing and established power, expressed as an assertive and powerful creative force applied to steer and protect. It is of stability, enduring strength and established authority. Al Kaphrah also impels the balanced distribution or delegation of power and authority.
The Vela Pulsar, an extremely old Super Nova remnant conjoining Alpha and Gamma Sextans and expressing through the Sextant's theme, has a fundamental frequency of 11.2084065685 Hz., which translates to a color harmonic of 3800Å—a high spiritual violet, bordering near UV. Pulsars in general are beacons for the soul, constantly providing an inner message or reminder for those attentive to such subtleties. Although the Vela Pulsar can create somewhat of a spiritual serenity, much like we might have relaxing on a sailing ship in a light breeze, there demands the preparedness and alertness to leap into action as the increasing gales and changing currents require. The Vela Pulsar reminds us to remain serene but alert and preserving along our journey, to continually plot our position based upon our greater spiritual truth and to adjust our course accordingly so we can arrive to the sanctum we seek. The Vela Pulsar reminds us to set our direction based on the underlying evolutionary currents rather than on the winds of the moment, the diversionary and transitory surface breezes, to plot the path on our long-term (soul's) direction. If there is any pulsar equated more to the maturity of the old soul (old salt), the Vela Pulsar is it.
Our Orcus-Balsamic Moon brings our attention to our greater purposes on Earth, perhaps to oaths made at soul level amongst each other. It brings attention to personal and global leadership, creative energy, evolutionary currents, and our responsibility in defining and setting the direction of our evolutionary course. What started as a personal quest for our individual cup of fulfillment on the New Moon brings us to seek a far more inclusive cup of salvation for all of humanity. This sets the seed to sprout in the following lunar cycle.
This new synodic cycle starts just hours before the next New Moon and is also a part of the essence of our new lunar cycle, thus I will present it with the New Moon in the following lunar planner.
Our next lunar cycle occurs on October 15, 2012 in late sidereal Virgo conjoining Eta Carinea of Argo Navis. Eta Carinae is one of the most massive stars in our Milky Way, over 100 times the mass of the Sun and about four million times brighter, making it the most luminous star known. Eta Carinae is the foreteller of evolutionary change and the way through such change. More to come then.
