Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are—our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).
Our New Moon of January 11, 2013 lies in late sidereal Sagittarius under the auspices of the stars of Lyra, Harp of the Angels. Conjoining entries include Sulphat and the Starseed Ring Nebula of Lyra; Delta and the SS433 Neutron star of Aquila the Eagle; and Alpha Pavo. This area of the heavens is of lofty ideals, multi-spectral inspiration and extraterrestrial vision. It inspires creative action from passion and enthusiasm for our greater ideals and long-term vision.
Venus and Juno, asteroid of covenant partners, mutual respect and compatibility, both join the Pluto leg of the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod that began in December, and which continues through the March equinox of 2013. Vesta, asteroid of focus, dedication and commitment, now joins Jupiter on the Yod’s apex, conjoining Aldebaran of sidereal Taurus. The Juno-Venus-Pluto synthesis is key for partnerships of all types. It may catalyze a deep and honest re-examination of our relations, demanding we live with greater integrity to the naked truth revealed. Vesta and Jupiter, both retrograde, magnify and mobilize the need to either refocus our commitment in partnerships or to honor incompatibility and to part ways. Vesta stations (completes its retrograde) exactly on the Aldebaran-Yod Apex, mid-way in the lunar cycle. Jupiter completes its retrograde slightly later, just before the Disseminating Moon, the birth point in the lunar cycle. Both stimulate a new level of focus and commitment and an expansive outward demonstrable expression of that commitment, especially in ventures that establish a nurturing physical infrastructure that supports us through the ever-changing times ahead.
Pallas joins Eris to begin a new 4.6-year synodic cycle in sidereal Pisces, and Mars joins Neptune to begin a new 2-year synodic cycle in sidereal Aquarius. The Pallas-Eris cycle continues to arouse unrest about social injustice in the collective populous, especially regarding financial issues. Pallas also makes its final conjunction with Uranus at the same time, inspiring radical and highly intelligent creative solution for that unrest. The first Pallas-Uranus conjunction kicked off the 2012-2015 Uranus-Pluto Square in June 2011.
The Dwarf Planet Ceres, mother of the asteroids, also completes its retrograde in this lunar cycle, conjoining the stars of enterprising Orion, fully engaging the new Earth-Ceres synodic cycle presented in the previous Lunar Planner. It also creates a significant Yod with Eris to the North Lunar Node conjoining Unakalhai, the neck of the Serpent reaching toward the Northern Crown, a Yod which sustains its formation throughout the first half of the following lunar cycle.
This lunar cycle is highly inspirational and progressive. It should bring a welcomed relief from the intense last several lunar cycles, which were more catalytic of personal change and impelling us to claim a greater level of self-empowerment. Now we are motivated to apply that which we have realized over the last many months in ways that move us forward from the turmoil of past upsets. This lunar cycle is one inspiring, providing opportunity for, and motivating tremendous movement and expansion.
"The stars would not be in the heavens if we were meant to walk in darkness."
About Synodic Cycles
Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.
The stars of Lyra, expressing through this New Moon, lie in the northern heavens over late sidereal Sagittarius. Vega, the harp star, is the primary star of Lyra. It governs this area of the heavens and the second evolutionary epoch in Earth’s ~25,000-year Precessional Cycle”.

Lyra is the Lyre of Hermes, originally bestowed with the qualities to invoke and communicate the messages of the gods. As the harp of the angelic messengers, its tuning and voice not only impart beauty, beneficence, eloquence, and sensibility to the Zen Archer, but specifically translate divine information into vibration that supports transmutational healing and the spiritual awakening of consciousness.
Hermes passed the lyre onto his half brother Apollo. Generally shown playing the lyre, Apollo was the ideal of male beauty, bringing the beneficence of eloquence and sensibility to humankind. Apollo, was god of medicine, music, poetry, and archery, caregiver for the flocks and herds. Shrines to Apollo can be found on the island of Delos.
Apollo was father of Asklepios, who is also Ophiuchus, knowledge holder of advanced healing processes and ascension directives beyond the cycle of life and death. The Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidauros (where he was born) was the most celebrated healing center of the ancient world, sacred to the Asklepieion, the followers (cult) of Asklepios.
Apollo in turn passed the lyre onto Orpheus, musician of the Argonauts. Orpheus' fate was not so fortunate, being shredded to pieces by the woman of the Dionysiac orgy when the harp was mis-used to woo! - a message to those that use music for healing while covertly manipulating their subjects for unethical personal purposes. Prior to his end, Orpheus used the lyre to charm Hyades in the release of his wife Eurydice, but blundering with this one's fate too.
A lyrist on the "Standard of Ur," a Sumerian artifact excavated from the ancient city of Ur, believed to date to between 2600–2400 BCE.
The stars of Lyra embody various facets of the artsciences of harmonics in light, sound, color, and geometry--particularly the wisdom of the artsciences. They are of vision, creativity, and inspire all that is of multi-media, the arts, and higher education.
Vega embodies the essence of angelic Lyra; the spiritual and visionary art of the angels, or angles--meaning the harmonics of light, sound, and geometry applied in sacred proportion through which Divine Intelligence communicates. Fortuitous Vega offers many potential doorways for fulfillment; especially related to paths pursued in the art-sciences applied for healing and personal evolution. Lyra and Vega provide visionary and artistic inspiration; and add to the qualities of Sagittarius to formulate the lofty ideals held by the Zen Archer.
Lyra, and prominent alignments with Lyra’s stars, often indicate involvement with the music of the spheres, that is, the use of natural astronomically and resonant harmonics for healing, illumination, and for greater evolutionary purpose. Prominent alignments and aspects to Lyra are often found in musicians, artists and those involved with art and sciences behind multi-media projects--those with intent to use those art-sciences for healing and the expansion of consciousness. Lyra embodies the wisdom of the application of natural harmonics in light and sound through time in geometric proportion--all working intelligently together.

Lyra is also depicted as the Tortoise Lyre, with the resonant structure being the shell from which rise elegant horns upon which seven strings (of Sheliak) are stretched. Sulaphat is the tortoise shell. Sulaphat embodies the principle of resonance in the harmonics of sacred geometry and associated artsciences. Sulaphat embodies all that is of physical resonance and emotional tone. Here we find the inspiration to re-tune the physical and emotional aspects of our lives. We find support to become fully and harmoniously resonant to our spiritual truth, highest ideals and visions, and to express them into demonstrable material manifestation.
The beautiful starseed Ring Nebula M57, a super nova of Lyra, is the result from which many diversionary rays of extraterrestrial starseed races began their evolutionary journey. The Ring Nebula inspires the re-unification of all incarnational sojourns of the soul, and to reciprocate that amalgamated wisdom through the art-sciences, and through philosophy, spirituality and more evolved social ideals. M57 invites us to remember our unified stellar origins despite our many diverse expressions in form.
Conjoining the tail of the Eagle (Zeta Aquila) is SS433, an exotic and dynamic binary star system similar to Cygnus x-3, but emitting twin-corkscrew shaped jets in wavelengths ranging from the optical to the X-ray. A companion star is feeding the collapsed neutron star's accretion disc. A neutron star is a super-dense nucleus of a collapsed (dead) star. A slight 20° misalignment of the planes of the binary orbit and the accretion disk causes the disc and its rapidly evolving jets to precess (wobble) over a 162.5-day period and over a large angle. The precession also causes the jets' expanding helical spray.
SS433’s primary characteristic is that it produces a dynamic and rapidly evolving expression that extends over the entire light spectrum, thus embracing all aspects of life, from the most primal to the soul/spiritual, without hesitancy and without prejudice or discrimination. It also has a consuming aspect to it, consuming life itself.
Both the qualities of rapidly rotating Deneb Al Okab and SS433 are fitting with the Eagle’s totem and guiding tail of the Eagle. The Eagle, a lone bird, has the ability to rapidly remove itself to vast distances and height to gain an embracing perceptual (global) awareness, and then to steer itself with amazing speed and grace to snatch its target.
This is also the location of Pluto’s south node, and it articulates the force behind Pluto's active expression in our lives. Pluto, currently in mid Sag, will reach its South Node in 2018, when it crosses from north of to south of the ecliptic plane.

This lunar cycle inspires creative action from the greater truth of our higher soul-level awareness. This is choosing action from trust in our souls’ passion and truth, which knows the choices required for our greatest fulfillment, rather than from personality-level self, which often makes choices from a place of fear or lack. Either way we create everything we experience by the choices we make moment by moment. If I choose an action because I want something I do not have or because I do not want to loose something I already have, this is choosing from a place of fear and lack. If I choose action from my higher soul level passion, it is from pure enthusiasm to express the fullness that I already am. To make choices from this place of higher inspirational awareness allows our life experiences to precipitate in ways that support and reflect the abundance that we already are. It brings new experiences that lead to our greater path of fulfillment and that fulfills our soul-level purpose on Earth. It also allows us to fulfill our life destiny, which we create, rather than to react and acquiesce to fate.
Juno, asteroid of covenant partners, mutual respect and compatibility, conjoins Pluto on January 14, just before the Crescent Moon. Venus then joins in to make the triple conjunction with Juno and Pluto on January 16-17—all in mid-sidereal Sagittarius.
In addition, a bit later in the lunar cycle, Venus and Juno begin a new 256-day synodic cycle on January 30, just before the Disseminating Moon. Venus and Pluto begin a new 226-day synodic cycle on January 31, just after the Disseminating Moon. Juno and Pluto begin their new 4.5-year synodic cycle a day after the following New Moon of February 10, 2013.
All of these events create one compounded geocentric and heliocentric conjunction in mid-sidereal Sagittarius—and the theme of this compounded event continues to express throughout the times ahead through each of the synodic cycles.
In addition to all of this, the Juno-Venus-Pluto conjunction occurs on the Pluto leg of the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod that began in December 2012, and which continues through the March equinox of 2013.
Juno, goddess of love, is the asteroid of covenant relationships, soul colleagues, and true lovers. In the astrological chart, Juno indicates the nature of the issues and opportunities in significant relations of all sorts: those that are of a personal nature to those of political leaders and nations of the world. Mature Juno is diplomatic, tactful, cooperative, and mutually trusting. Mature Juno expresses with a sense of equality within self that provides the ability to draw true partners and those of equality into one’s life. There is an acceptance of another’s truth or opinion without need to challenge or debate. There is an ability to honor and support others in their own choices and decisions. Mature Juno expresses in mutual support and unconditional love to allow each other to grow and change through whatever issues surface.
Juno’s placement in the astrological chart is one of several points that determine the types of significant relations drawn into our lives. Juno specifically is involved with drawing our true soul-mates or twin-hearts—those truly compatible. Because Juno is where we deal with our inferiority / superiority complexes, and if this issue is prominent, partnerships drawn in earlier life can be full of lessons regarding such issues and not much else. Once a certain level of clarity is attained within self regarding the asteroid issues, true soul level covenant relations begin to show up. This does not mean we still do not grow regarding Juno issues, but there are those individuals with which we may also have a mutual soul bond and mission to pursue together.
Potential Juno issues can manifest as superiority / inferiority complexes or other inequality issues.
More about Juno.
The astrophysical resonances of Venus govern the heart bio-energy centre (chakra), and the thymus, which is the neurological control center for the immune system. Like the thyroid (governed by Mercury) is reflexed to the liver, the thymus is reflexed to the spleen. The heart chakra is our centre of intuitive knowing, harmony, magnetic attraction, that which we value, love, romance, and sexual rapture. It is where we find our capacity for compassion and appreciation of beauty. The heart chakra and thymus resonate to the emotional tone of fear and judgment. It is fear that shuts the heart down and causes all immune related problems. We defend our fear with judgment.
Venus (and the heart chakra), when mature and clear, expresses love in art and beauty, with a wonderful capacity for unconditional acceptance of all conditions--true, non-judgmental love. The unconditionally open heart receives and expresses love that is harmoniously balanced. Mature Venus is open to new experience, is courageous, optimistic, and aware of soul intent and purpose--as the unconditionally open heart is where soul fully radiates its light. Mature Venus is also sociable, fashionable, artistic, good willed, benevolent, diplomatic, and magnetically sensuous. Venus is also of wealth and resources and plays a prominent role in financial matters and the flow of money. More about Venus.
Pluto is a freeing and opening force; a pattern disrupter and deprogrammer. Pluto is independent, individual, and autonomous; an extremist, isolationist and loner; a revolutionist, and is non-accepting of limiting conditions. For a younger immature soul, Pluto can express as a controlling arbiter, however Pluto will ultimately make one face their own controlling issues. For an older mature soul, Pluto can be a valuable ally when worked with consciously, freeing us from antiquated behavioral patterns. Pluto's chart placement can indicate where we need to let go or surrender programmed patterns from early childhood and from previous incarnations. Pluto can bring up fears associated with survival, death and transformation; the fear to be alone, to let go, to release or to let die. Pluto brings attention to our attitude and issues we hold about authoritarian control and use of power, how we attempt to control and how we respond such control.
Pluto demands that we take responsibility for our entrapments in life and deal with the longer-term ramifications of our actions and life scenarios--and our karmic responsibility, extending beyond a mere lifetime. Pluto also demands that we address how we co-participate and cooperate with humankind in our daily lives from an all-embracing global perspective. More about Pluto.
The star alignments in mid-Sagittarius were presented in the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod article. They articulate the nature of this triple conjunction and the three ensuing synodic cycles.
“Pluto in mid-sidereal Sagittarius (Facies of Sag, Alpha Scuttum, AM Hercules) becomes a revealer of a greater truth. It does so by destructing false beliefs, and especially exposes the truth behind the use of power in the world and how we use our own personal power. It demands that we re-examine our moral codes based upon the greater truth being revealed. Pluto at this area of Sagittarius invites us to live for and uphold higher spiritual truths and principles. It strips us naked to look at self with truth and honesty, to look at what is and what is not working in our lives and why. It invites us to pursue and live for the revelations, truths and ideals that result.”
The Juno-Venus-Pluto synthesis is key for partnerships of all types and may catalyze a deep and honest re-examination of our relations, demanding we live with greater integrity to the naked truth revealed—true to heart. This result must be creatively applied toward the Jupiter-Aldebaran theme (the Yod apex).
Exploring Juno’s previous path through the heavens to the Juno-Venus-Pluto synthesis also lends insight to the energetic occurring now for personal relationships and professional partnerships, starting with the previous Juno retrograde (shown in the above movie) and the Earth-Juno synodic cycle that began at the time, presented in the April 21, 2012 Lunar Planner.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, January 14 through 17 is an ideal time to work with the Pluto and Venus audio meditations. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
Vesta, asteroid of focus, dedication and commitment, now joins Jupiter on the Yod’s apex, conjoining Aldebaran of Taurus. So we now have the Juno-Venus-Pluto conjunction in a quincunx to Vesta-Jupiter.
Vesta and Jupiter, both retrograde, magnify and mobilize the need to either refocus our commitment in partnerships toward the Jupiter-Aldebaran theme, or to honor incompatibility or lack of fulfillment, and to part ways. Vesta stations (completes its retrograde) exactly on the Aldebaran-Yod Apex mid-way in the lunar cycle. Jupiter stations slightly later, both then begin to engage an outward and demonstrable expression of the Yod’s overall theme.
Vesta’s retrograde movement and station joining Jupiter at the Yod apex is rather significant. Retrograde Jupiter is now slightly before Aldebaran, conjoining the tempestuous Hyades star asterism, amplifying and making more obvious any discordance or unrest that keeps us from living truer to our pure intent and obtaining our objectives in life. It stimulates a future oriented focus for achievement—to creatively apply the revelations brought forth by the Juno-Venus-Pluto conjunction to mobilize and manifest our greater ideals exemplified by the Jupiter-Aldebaran theme.
Vesta is the asteroid of Focus, Dedication & Commitment; of physical, emotional, and mental clarity; and of self-respect. Vesta brings a capacity to be pure within self at all levels for the expression of one’s highest potential and true Essence. Vesta is of strength, purity, and perfection—of total dedication to purpose. Vesta brings attention to that which is of true importance to us and will ignite and burn away that which is not so we can become clear. Vesta is keeper of the sacred flame within self. Vesta asks us to examine our inner values, our passion in life, to become clear on it, and to use our creativity to keep that fire alive. More about Vesta with close up pics from NASA's Dawn spacecraft currently orbitting Vesta.
Jupiter imparts a mobilizing and expansive force. It stimulates fluidity in movement, vitality and enthusiasm. It is of reciprocity—how we receive and re-express that which we have gained as gifts to the world. Jupiter expresses in openness and willingness to touch, palpate and embrace life, people and experience. It imparts a kinesthetic and magnetic quality; and reveals our physical fitness, strength and coordination.
Jupiter motivates us to aspire for something larger in our lives, beyond our current bounds. Jupiter will tend to magnify and expand the qualities of any other planet that it conjoins. Jupiter is often associated with money, but not as much as Venus. This is because Jupiter is a mobilizing force and money is a mobilizing agent.
Jupiter is of higher or natural law, as compared to man’s laws. It is of Spiritual Truth and stimulates action upon our greater truth. Jupiter is serendipitous, opportunistic, fortunate and lucky; with taste for and appreciation of elegance end beauty (along with Venus). It is fun loving, good natured, free and independent. Jupiter provides the ability to participate freely in the material world and in universal flow. More about Jupiter.
In addition to the dynamics of this long-standing Yod, and the Juno-Venus-Pluto conjunctions and their synodic cycles, a new 5.23-year Vesta-Jupiter synodic cycle was set in motion in late October 2012, also conjoining the Hyades, a cycle which continues to express for the next 5 years. This creates impetus to get clear about social unrest and discord and to focus and commit toward a more mature form of leadership, and to create evolved physical infrastructures (personally and collectively) that move us beyond the every-day turmoil and strife most people experience that is perpetuated by archaic social, political, financial, and business structures—the focus this Jovian Finger of God demands; and even more so after Jupiter continues past the point of its retrograde, which occurs in late April conjoining the enterprising stars of Orion (Rigel) in later Taurus.
Vesta and Jupiter’s retrograde conjunction inspires and inward reexamination of our focus, dedication, an purpose of intent (especially in our relationships and specifically in the underlying material and financial infrastructures supporting our relationships. It also impels this examination in political and business arenas, and regarding their financial workings. As Vesta and Jupiter complete their retrogrades (January 26 and January 30 respectively), we will be motivated to mobilize and actualize our realizations in our lives. We will be motivated to initiate greater action regarding all of this when Jupiter returns to conjoin Aldebaran and fulfill the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod on the March 2013 Equinox.
The Vesta-Jupiter-Aldebaran Yod apex inspires tremendous creative opportunity to focus and dedicate our efforts to manifest a physical infrastructure that fulfills the Aldebaran theme—one that truly supports our selves and humanity through evolutionary change. It inspires and motivates leadership and profitability in business, social and political ventures.
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon occurs on January 14-15 in mid-sidereal Aquarius just past Chiron and as the Sun enters sidereal Capricorn. It also aspects the Yod (Moon-Chiron sextile Venus-Pluto-Juno, trine Saturn, and square Jupiter-Vesta.)
Mid-sidereal Aquarius is the angel point of the zodiak, in the midst of the flowing waters of the humanitarian waterbearer. Conjoining stars include Hydor, Skat Eta and Zeta Aquarius.
Lying in the northern heavens upon the galactic equator we find Cygnus the Swan, also called the Northern Galactic Cross. Deneb, tail of the swan, is the principal star of Cygnus and marks the top (head) of the northern galactic cross. Deneb is the first primary star that Earth's pole encounters in Earth's precessional cycle. It is the messianic head of the precessional Cycle of Earth’s Precessional Cross--of the evolutionary cycle of the soul. Administrative Deneb, a star more than a hundred times the diameter of our Sun, with a very high luminosity, governs the first of the seven heavens (evolutionary epochs) in the Earth's precessional cycle. Deneb embodies our unadulterated androgynous pure soul essence before fragmentation into race, sex, or creed. Deneb inspires us to stand in the awareness of our pure soul essence, in this wholeness and to participate from the maturity of unity consciousness, unbiased and beyond the segregations and categorizations common to modern-day mass-consciousness.
Crescent Moon January 15
Skat, Delta Aquarius, is "star of the foundation," marking the shinbone of the waterbearer. Skat is of humanitarian philanthropic foundations, organizations, and business vessels through which material and financial support can flow for future-oriented humanitarian focused projects and for the nourishment of an evolved human society flourishing in the arts and sciences. Skat inspires action in support of this pursuit. Skat is possibly derived from the Arabic Al Sak (the shinbone) or from Al Shi'at, meaning "a wish" (Allen).
Eta and Zeta Aquarius, and, along with Sadachbia (Gamma) and Seat (Pi), create a prominent asterism (to skywatchers), a 4-star "Y"—a symbol used in electronics to denote an antenna--that which transmits and receives, is expressive and receptive. Sadachbia, the principle star of the “Y” is the "lucky star of hidden things." Sadachbia can indicate that a physical gift of extreme value can be discovered, revealed, claimed or given. The Diamond of Aquarius is found when adding Sadalmelik (Alpha Aquarius) to the Y. The Diamond of Aquarius is generally depicted as the Urn of Aquarius--from where the nourishing humanitarian waters flow.
Hydor, Lambda Aquarius, lies in and guides the stream of the flowing waters of the humanitarian waterbearer. Hydor simply means water. Like the stars of the urn from which the waters flow, Sadalmelik, Sadachbia, Seat, Zeta and Eta (the Diamond of Aquarius), Hydor is a fortuitous star. This zodiacal location is also related to Varuna, goddess of the water's of life, who invites us to allow nature's way to weave its course.
Our Crescent Moon inspires a humanitarian focus to create a wholesome and evolved human society, especially through the arts and sciences. It inspires efforts that serve this purpose personally and in the world at large. It inspires altruistic support for efforts that tend to equalize and dissolve boundaries, and that create progressive movement, flow and change.
The next few days, leading into First Quarter Moon, brings us a series of catalyzing alignments:
The Sun, Pallas and Eris align on January 16-17 (at the same time Venus conjoins Pluto and Juno). This initiates a new 4.6-year Pallas-Eris synodic cycle. This cycle continues to arouse unrest about social injustice in the collective populous, especially regarding financial issues. Pallas also makes its final conjunction with Uranus at the same time, inspiring radical and highly intelligent creative solution—a part of the continuing energetic created by the Uranus-Pluto Square and the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod.
The Sun and Mercury conjoin early AM on January 18 in sidereal Capricorn, which marks the mid-point of vision and realization in the current Earth-Mercury synodic cycle, which began on November 17, 2012 conjoined Algol of Perseus on the Lunar Nodes, presented in the November 13, 2012 Lunar Planner. The Moon conjoins Eris in late sidereal Pisces at the same time.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, the eve of January 17 and early Jan18 is an ideal time to work with the Mercury audio meditation. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The Sun, Mars and Neptune align in sidereal Aquarius on January 18, 2013, which initiates a new 1.9-year Mars-Neptune synodic cycle. Mars-Neptune synods progress through the ecliptic by about 4°. This synod conjoins Enif of Pegasus (the primary conjoining star); Anch and Sadalmelik of Aquarius; Zeta Cygnus; and Fomalhaut of Pisces Australis. This is slightly before the location of the Crescent Moon and also lies under the auspices of Deneb of Cygnus.
Mars is an initiating creative force, of sexuality, vitality, life force, and power. In its mature expression, Mars stimulates our capacity to respond in assertive action. It is of leadership, self reliance, and victorious. It is audacious, brave, instinctual, passionate and willful. For the less mature, or when poorly placed in a chart, Mars can express as the awry or ballistic use of power, lack of self-control, abuse in all if its forms, and with selfish motive and greed that is based in the fear of not surviving or not being provided for. The Mars aspect of self (sacrum, base chakra, adrenals sexual organs) is the area generally held in most judgment by many people—due to this force having been used destructively and manipulatively in the history of the solar system resulting in aberrations and devastation of life; hence often dubbed the planet of war. Because of this, total rejection and lack of love is often projected toward the Mars quality / base chakra of self—alienating it even more.
Soaring high above Valles Marineris, the "Grand Canyon of Mars," viewers look down and catch a sight resembling parts of the desert West of the United States, but on a vastly greater scale. Here the canyon averages over a hundred miles wide, and its floor is heaped with rocks, sediments, and landslide debris. Within the canyon walls lie possibly hundreds of layers filling many pages of Mars' geologic record. Image & Caption Credit: NASA/JPL/University of Arizona
The Gas Giant Neptune is of inspiration, ideals, dreams and visions; as well as a inspiring a new visionary-based, universal consciousness. Neptune imparts a dissolving force. Neptune’s atmosphere shifts and changes continuously, looking quite different in just a few days time. This is one of the astrophysical characteristics of Neptune that reveals why Neptune tends to dissolve things into universality; it is amorphous, swirling and shifting, and thus also lends itself to the exploration of creative ideas and alternative realms of perception; and also to merge in consciousness with others and with one’s surroundings. Neptune dissolves boundaries and thus enables one to see imagery beyond the semantics of words and language.
Neptune can however leave one lost in a dream world, unable to see if ideas and visions have any real substance or viability, which can leave one living in illusion, self-deception, confusion, or behind a veil or mask. Thus the issue of discernment arises as well--a kidney-related bio-resonance tie-in associated with Neptune.
Neptune, in a lesser expression, can leave one impressionable, easily lost in followings, the paranormal or phenomenology. It can express as martyrdom or savior complexes; and as deceptive mysterious behavior as a way of hiding. Avoidance and seeking escape is common, especially through addictions, such as drug abuse, especially hallucinogenic drugs.
Pisces Australis (the southern fish) lying south of Aquarius, articulates the body of humanity, human society. Fomalhaut, one of the "Four Royal Architects," is the administrative seat of the aquatic quadrant of the heavens. Fomalhaut is the fish’s mouth, both through which the Aquarian waterman pours its nourishment, and through which humanity speaks. Fomalhaut is the voice of humanity. Those with prominent Fomalhaut placements have a need to speak for humanity as a whole and about humanity's fundamental needs. They seek ways to create an evolved universal human society, one free from segregations.
This colour-composite image of the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) was created from images obtained using the Wide Field Imager (WFI), an astronomical camera attached to the 2.2-metre Max-Planck Society/ESO telescope at the La Silla observatory in Chile. The blue-green glow in the centre of the Helix comes from oxygen atoms shining under effects of the intense ultraviolet radiation of the 120 000 degree Celsius central star and the hot gas. Further out from the star and beyond the ring of knots, the red colour from hydrogen and nitrogen is more prominent. A careful look at the central part of this object reveals not only the knots, but also many remote galaxies seen right through the thinly spread glowing gas.
Sadalmelik, Alpha Aquarius, one the stars creating the Diamond of the Aquarian Waterbearer, is the "lucky one of the kingdom." Sadalmelik is the directing force behind the Waterbearer flowing nourishment. Sadalmelik creates an air of recognition and acceptance in the kingdom of human affairs--especially for those involved in the arts and sciences. Sadalmelik brings fortuitous opportunity for those with humanitarian interest, and who are in those arenas where such interest can be expressed. Sadalmelik is of leadership and prominent alignments with it inspire visionary administration of humanitarian efforts.
Ancha, Theta Aquarius, south of and conjoining Sadalmelik is the Waterbearer's talisman on his belt or thigh and articulates this fortuitous capacity for fulfillment. It is of one who “holds the vision” of the Aquarian Waterbearer. Ancha is also of knowledge, secrets, science, research, writing, scribes, teachers, record-keepers and mediators, and the articulation of this intelligence.
Pegasus, in general, is of strength and support, that which lifts humanity above the entrapping forces and scenarios common to a less than socially mature world. Enif, Baham and Homam are a group of fortuitous stars that lie over the Aquarian waterbearer, forming the head of Pegasus.
Enif of Pegasus, the nose of the magical flying horse, brings intuitiveness and sensitivity to the humanitarian / Aquarian pursuit. Enif is characteristic of altruistic people, those with the intuitive awareness to recognize what is of essence, of value, and worthy of humanitarian support. Enif is often of people who are capable of providing material and financial support and who have the sensitivity to do so. A fortuitous star, Enif asks us to follow our intuition to do what is truly supportive to our greater wellbeing and to those around us. Enif and Baham, lying over the Diamond of Aquarius, impel us to lift and elevate, to make possible that which otherwise would not be without such altruistic support.
This new 1.9-year Mars-Neptune synodic cycle inspires visionary creative action and leadership based upon humanitarian principles and for that which supports the evolution of a mature human society. A Mars-Neptune synthesis can express in two ways. The gas giant Neptune can disperse Mars’ energetic, which is of creative action and leadership. In this case one might see the world through rose-colored glasses, be easily mislead, adhere to illusions, and defer self-actualization to the ideals of others or by acquiescing to what we think others may want from us. The mature expression of this synthesis is to use the Martian energetic as self-initiated action in leadership to manifest the higher visionary and spiritual ideals Neptune inspires—the opportunity offered here.
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on January 18 in early sidereal Aries.
All of the events mentioned above (the Venus-Juno-Pluto conjunction, the Sun-Mercury conjunction and the new synodic cycles) significantly contribute to our stimulus to action.
First Quarter Moon conjoins the Andromeda Galaxy; the Cassiopeia-A Super Nova Remnant; Alrisha (Kaitain) of Pisces and the stars forming the upright fish on cuspal Aries; and Mirach and Mu of Andromeda.
The beautiful and nearly perfect shaped Andromeda Spiral Galaxy.
This mosaic of M31 merges 330 individual images taken by the Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope aboard NASA's Swift spacecraft. It is the highest-resolution image of the galaxy ever recorded in the ultraviolet. M31 is more than 220,000 light-years across and lies 2.5 million light-years away. On a clear, dark night, the galaxy is faintly visible as a misty patch to the naked eye. The irregular shape of the image results when the more than 300 images were assembled to make the final image.

Classically, Aries is figured as a reclining ram with its head looking back over itself, admiring his own golden fleece. The theme of Aries the Ram, whether articulated by Andromeda and the Royal Family or Jason and the Argonauts search for the golden fleece, is about the initiatory challenges that continually create obstacles and limitations across life's path. These obstacles, often created by our righteous attitudes of arrogance, create painful and repetitive lessons in the fires of life about that very thing--pride, arrogance, and greed--lessons that ultimately produce the alchemical honing of self. The journey through Aries awakens us from a self-consuming focus of need to one of selfless creative leadership.
Alrisha (Kaitain), Alpha Pisces, a very close pair of bluish-white stars, is the knot of the ribbon tying the two fishes of Pisces together. Alrisha lies across the cusp of sidereal Aries-Pisces, on the shore of sidereal Aries. Alrisha is the knot or cord that ties our primordial past, articulated by the horizontal fish swimming westward towards earlier Pisces, with our desire to rise from it, articulated by the upward pointing fish on the cusp of Aries. Alrisha is the bond—as in glue—that ties our past with our future. Alrisha creates a neurological tension that seeks resolution. This very same tension imparts the motive to aspire to become more than we are.
Alrisha stimulates our desire to rise from the tormenting emotional and psychic forces common to life. Alrisha reveals our need to embrace our past to rise into our future—as they are inseparably bound. People sometimes negate or reject the past, their existing experience, the people in their lives or the places in which they live in order to make a change. Yet this inner emotional denial only denies us the change we truly seek, it leaves us only to face the same issues in yet another guise. To unconditionally accept our past and the lessons it has provided frees us from the chains of the past to create the destiny we truly desire.
Conjoining Alrisha is Mirach, Beta Andromeda, is a massive red star, with a magnitude identical to Alpheratz, Alpha Andromeda. Mirach also has a companion star, although very faint, about 60,000 times dimmer than Mirach. Mirach is the sash or chord of the Princess Andromeda, also marking her loins, and which lies north of Alrisha. Mirach signifies a bond of strength. Mirach can indicate a betrothal of those destined in desire to be together, and specifically is the declaration of commitment uniting them. Mirach is of the bonds in partnership that make it possible to live our highest potential and fulfillment. Mirach is about bonds of the soul, a star of union, of making it possible through committed union for two to become or achieve something greater than either can be or do alone.
Mirach and Alrisha can express as a bond of strength or they can express as bond of emotional entanglement and dependency. Our emotional clarity determines which. This articulates the difference between inter-dependency and co-dependency.
The Super Nova Remnant Cassiopeia-A embodies the over-theme of Cassiopeia, the soul of the queen. Cas-A creates the need to see opportunity for attainment (articulated by the beautiful and conjoining Andromeda Galaxy M31) rather than opposition to it, and to have the courage to do the inner work required to claim it. In typical Cassiopeian style however, this can express as an explosive temper tantrum of outrage or anger when feeling deprived or a victim of our position or environment in which we may find ourselves; or victim to other forces attempting to manipulate and control our freedom or birthright. However, this is ultimately due to not having dealt with our own emotional issues to start with. Cas-A offers a powerful opportunity for transformation if we are willing to surrender any bitter attitudes that we deserve something or some position, and to shift our focus from why we are being denied or deprived to appreciating that which we do have and the beauty that is. This acceptance is that which allows bestowal of the beneficent due our greater essence of being.
The Andromeda Galaxy, M31, was first viewed as a nebulous cloud in the heavens, but with the advent of powerful telescopes, the galactic beauty became visible as our nearest galactic neighbor. This marked the time for humanity to see its own greater galactic potential, to realize we can become much more than what in the past was merely an obscure nebulous notion. Even more recently, we find that the beautiful Andromeda Galaxy, composed of hundreds of billions of stars, has two nuclei (centers of force) forming the heart of the galaxy, articulating the exquisite expression of life from the unified (Divine) spiraling Twin Flame masculine and feminine principles. Spiral type galaxies in general articulate the flow of spiritual and physical forces spiraling in evolutionary unfoldment. The Andromeda Galaxy exemplifies the ideal for humanity, the masculine and feminine polarities of life expressing in their full majesty and glory, spiraling together in beauty and perfection. Here lies our inspiration to visibly express and demonstrate our unification, the inward masculine and feminine and its outward expression in the world—in its greatest potential and form.
Our First Quarter Moon's stimulus to action requires us to surrender any attitudes of righteousness, our self-imposed limits perpetuated by attitudes that we deserve more, and to honor / unconditionally accept our current reality in order to step forth into action or commitments that lead us to become all we can be and to achieve our greater fulfillment in life. It also impels us to initiate creative action that supports our greater ideals and dreams (Mars-Neptune). It impels partnerships to mobilize from a greater awareness with focus, dedication and commitment to co-create the physical infrastructures in our lives and in our world that lead to a more bountiful life and to a more evolved human society (Juno-Venus-Pluto quincunx Jupiter-Vesta).
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.
Our Gibbous Moon occurs on January 22-23 in sidereal Taurus conjoining retrograde Ceres. The Moon conjoins the Jupiter-Vesta-Aldebaran Yod-apex hours before the Gibbous phase shift—activating and emphasizing the theme of this Finger of God. Stars conjoining our Ceres-Gibbous Moon include Rigel of Orion; Nihal of Leporis; Kursa of Eridanus; Hassaleh, Al Anz and Hoedus of Aurgia and energetic AE Auriga. Rigel is the primary star for our Gibbous Moon.
Due to her size and spherical shape, Ceres was reclassified as a “dwarf planet” in Aug 2006, along with Pluto and Eris--appropriately honoring Ceres to be the mother of the asteroids; and now places a “planet” in the orbital location where a planet should lie--in this case along with her many children.
Ceres, the mother of the main asteroids, brings awareness to how we nurture and to that which is truly nurturing to us. Ceres embodies mothering and agricultural qualities and brings attention to our relation with the Earth, the land, agriculture, the environment and the seasons. Due to Ceres association with the land and the environment, Ceres is of particular interest in charts associated with environmental changes or events. Ceres reveals our ability to be in universal flow--the unification of giving and receiving as one flow of energy through ourselves. Ceres asks for acknowledgment of our inner needs, to have self love and self worth. Ceres is of concern and caring for others as well as for the Earth. Ceres is associated with fertility, the womb and stomach. More about Ceres.

Rigel, Beta Orion, is a supergiant star about 30 times the size of our Sun and with a mass about 17 times the mass of our Sun. It shines about 40,000 times our Sun’s luminosity and is the seventh brightest star in the heavens. Rigel has a faint dwarf companion but it is hard to see in small telescopes due to Rigel’s brilliance.
Rigel, Beta Orion, (and this part of sidereal Taurus) is of enterprising entrepreneurialism. Orions in general are known for their architectural capacity. Prominent alignments with Rigel (and Bellatrix) bring the capacity to embody, direct and execute large, extravagant and grandiose projects; bringing good through commerce and business affairs. Kursa, conjoining Rigel, marks the beginning of Eridanus, the River of Life. Kursa is of new beginnings, new involvements, and new journeys of our lives. Although it may be time to go forth anew, into a new phases of our lives, we must be aware of the tenacious perseverance required when staring new life journeys, to move from the wars and trials of the past to the freedom of the future. Kursa is also favorable for journeys involving enterprises across water or in other parts of the world.
North of Taurus is Auriga, the Charioteer. Capella, the messenger of light, is the primary star of this constellation. Hassaleh is the third brightest star of the classic pentagon of stars forming Auriga. Hassaleh conjoins Rigel of Orion and Kursa of Eridanus. Marking the foot of Auriga, Hassaleh inspires innovative and persistent action; and like the essence of Auriga, to mobilize that which cannot move on its own accord. Conjoining Hoedus (and Al Anz) adds a warrior quality to Hassaleh and is action oriented. Hoedus and Al Anz inspire us to mobilize additional expertise, the troops, to help us open doors to achieve our goals.

Also of influence is the energetic star AE Auriga in the Flaming Star Nebula. An interesting observation about AE Auriga is that it came from the same location as Mu of Columba the Dove, emblem of Divine dispensation--both from the Great Orion Nebula. It appears as if the two stars had a very close encounter only to be expelled from the Orion Nebula, and now reside in different parts of the heavens. This suggests a renegade or outcast quality, one who lives outside the beliefs and conventions of its group, a free and highly creative thinker moving on its own, even with its own agenda, which is quite fitting to this area of Taurus and to often impious but highly creative and enterprising Orion.
Our Gibbous Moon inspires a completion process of reexamining or redefining the strategies in our lives that lead to our nourishment and the nourishment of others. It stimulates a focus toward enterprising pursuits, or perhaps to initiate a new octave in those pursuits. Ceres is in the process of stationing to complete its retrograde, which occurs on February 4, just after Last Quarter Moon, our time of initiating change in the lunar cycle. This is when the new Earth-Ceres synodic cycle that began in mid-December 2012 fully engages, the theme of which was presented in the previous December 13, 2012 Lunar Planner.
The Ceres Station Gibbous Moon is sextile to Eris in late sidereal Pisces, and the two create a significant Yod to the North Lunar Node, which lies in late sidereal Libra. This Yod sustains its energetic from now throughout the first half of the following lunar cycle. The impetus here is to apply that which we have learned through any disruptions or upsets in our lives (occurring over the last few years), especially regarding financial issues, both personal and collective (Eris-Revati-Baten Kaitos), with new strategies in our enterprising pursuits to ensure our fundamental nourishment (Ceres-Rigel station), toward the energetic revealed by the North Lunar Node.
The North Node lies just past Zubeneschmali of Libra (the northern scale of the balance / claw of the Scorpion). It conjoins Unukalhai of Serpens, the neck of the Serpent held in the hands of Ophiuchus reaching toward the Northern Crown, and conjoining stars. This is the stellar grouping of stars that defined the recent November 13, 2012 lunar cycle. It is also where the asteroid Juno stationed in July of 2012, which marked the commencement of our current Earth-Juno synodic cycle, which impelled a significant maturing as well as a redefining in relationships and partnerships of all types.
The Lunar North Node theme here, in essence, is to choose to do things differently, to choose a different path, rather than repeating the patterns of the past, and from a place of self-mastery rather than acquiescing to the conditions of our lives as if we are victims rather the creators of them.
Vesta completes its retrograde on January 26 just before Full Moon, conjoining Aldebaran and the apex of the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter-Vesta Yod, discussed above. This also begins the first phase of the outward expression of the Yod (the second is when Jupiter returns direct). This also marks the full commencement of the current Earth-Vesta synodic cycle that began on December 9, 2012, presented in the November 13, 2012 Lunar Planner.
“This cycle invites focused and directed entrepreneurial action. It favorable for all physical and business enterprises, especially those that support regeneration, physical well-being, bountifulness and prosperity. In this part of sidereal Taurus, Vesta supports the focused application of knowledge for the greater well being of humanity and to evolve human society.”
Vesta’s conjunction with Aldebaran impels leadership in this area excerpted above, and to apply focus and commitment to establish a new infrastructure in our personal lives and in society that physically supports us through the challenging and changing times upon us.
The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some is a New World for those who realize it is.
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
The Full Moon occurs on January 27 in mid-sidereal Cancer. The Moon conjoins Praesepe of Cancer; Azmidiske Puppis of Argo Navis; and the Spiral Galaxy NGC 2683 in the Lynx.
Cancer, commonly the crab today, is also the Egyptian Scarabaeus, an image that articulates the theme of humanity's emergence from darkness, dogma, and delusion and its reawakening back to light. The Scarab is an appropriate mythical figure here because the beetle emerges from its snuggle in its own dung, where it matures. This theme also applies to our individual emergence from the family nest or from the collective consciousness that we co-create. The Scarab is a symbol of regeneration, transformation and re-birth, of being self-created, or self-made, to rise from itself--hence humanity's association with the beetle’s emergence. Sidereal Cancer imparts a nurturing, protective and cultivating quality, ultimately to support this emergence.
Praesepe, the Bee Hive star cluster, M44
Praesepe, the Bee Hive star cluster, M44 (~50 stars) in mid-Cancer embodies the essence of the Scarab / Cancer theme. Praesepe is also referred to as a crib or manger, referring to a protective and nurturing environment from which a new birth emerges. Praesepe also supports our emergence out of the antiquated dogmatic entrapments we had been living in (Asellus Bor and Aus), and our migration or a new birth. In this sense, Praesepe is of new beginnings, shedding old skins, skeletons, and cocoons. It is of emerging out of the frenetic confusion of mass consciousness; finding our new path and direction; leaving behind old dwellings and the structures of consciousness they represent; and getting out of our personal or collective dogma and the darkness it creates.
Praesepe can indicate a new dwelling place is at hand or that one is in order to find. When bees leave an old hive, they appear to swarm in frenetic confusion with a scattered sense and lack of direction before identifying their new direction and migrate toward their new home. This confusion is temporary and is part of intuiting the feeling for the right direction, much like turning in a complete circle to identify the way that feels right. Praesepe asks us to trust in our magnetic sense, our inner compass, and to hone in on our new direction.

Alignments with Praesepe (and Asellus) can bring up our fears of letting go--fears bound in our belief patterns and those of collective consciousness. They can bring our attention to the possibility of being lost in our own mental obscurations--in the reasons "why not" to go forward, why not to change--in the frenetic buzz of collective mass consciousness--in the dogmas of life, whether personal or collective. Praesepe asks us to step out of our limiting environments and structures of consciousness and to trust that which has been gestating and to find new places fitting to our emerging new awareness.
Adding to our Praesepe theme is the southern star Azmidiske, Xi Puppis of Argo Navis, the highest star on the aplustre of the stern of the ship sailing along the galactic equator and Sigma Puppis. Azmidiske, an exalted star lying exactly on the galactic equator, holds the signature of the mission of the Argo--the emblem of the mission of the soul. The ornately sculptured aplustre on ancient ships held an energetic, like a talisman, for the purpose the ship was built. Azmidiske reveals a transcendent soul purpose or mission to what occurs in the beehive, a gestating force supporting our emergence from darkness to light. Together, Praesepe, Azmidiske and Sigma Puppis ask us to trust and have faith in the subtle currents at work in our lives, currents that are leading us on the next leg of our journeys in life and toward our highest fulfillment.
Our Full Moon brings us realization to the purpose of this inspirational Lyrian lunar cycle. Our Full Moon inspires emergence into a new light of consciousness and to leave antiquated limiting beliefs behind. This may also motivate pilgrimage and/or migration to new places of residence that are better suited for our new found awareness.
The Sun, Mars and Chiron align on January 28, 2013 in mid-sidereal Aquarius at the angel point of the zodiak, initiating a new 2-year Mars-Chiron synodic cycle. Conjoining stars include Eta and Zeta of the Diamond of lunarmonth.13.01.11.html Aquarius and Skat of Aquarius. This is the same location in the zodiak as this lunar cycle’s Crescent Moon.
The Centaurs are somewhat rogue and radical in nature, believed to have entered into the realm of our outer solar system from the outside. Since the Centaurs do not have their own strong orbital resonance, they generally have unstable orbits and are greatly influenced by the orbital resonances of the larger planets, and thus synchronize with the orbits of the larger planets, acting as unique escorts from one planetary realm to another.
Chiron classically is “The wounded Healer,” and acts as a bridge or escort between Saturn and Uranus. Chrion can express in a variety of ways depending upon its chart placement. Chiron can indicate where personal healing is required, and/or it may indicate where a bridge is to be created and crossed, either from established, structured and crystalized patterns (Saturn) to radical new possibilities (Uranus), or to bring new discoveries and new levels of consciousness into concretized form. Prominent alignments with Chiron can indicate involvement in the health-care or healing arena, or involvement with discoveries and new technologies or modalities applied in this and related areas. More about Chiron and friends.
Healing society surrounding issues of use of patriarchal power may be a good phrase to sum this up—although a general one for the majority of Mars-Chirion synods occurring in Aquarius. There are four synodic cycles occurring in sidereal Aquarius beginning with the previous one that began on February 28, 2011. (The Mars-Chirion synods progress through this area of the ecliptic by about 7°.) This previous synod occurred during the Chiron-Neptune conjunction, conjoining Gienah, the wingtip of Cygnus and the Cygnus X-3 x-ray source. It was a compounded synod (Mars-Chirion-Neptune) that set a significant evolutionary current in motion—perhaps worth a re-read. See: The Mars-Neptune & Mars-Chiron Synodic Cycles.
More specifically, at mid-Aquarius and with these conjoining stars, this Mars-Chiron synodic cycle brings emphasis to humanitarian-focused vessels and organizations, and initiating creative action though this venue to support humanity to cross a bridge into a wholesome and evolved human society, especially through the arts and sciences. It inspires passionate creative action and audacious leadership to support this purpose personally and collectively in the world; and like our Crescent Moon, to support efforts that tend to equalize and dissolve boundaries, those that create progressive movement, flow and change.
Pallas and Uranus make the final conjunction of three, also on January 28. The first Pallas-Uranus conjunction occurred in June of 2012 kicking off the 2012-2015 Uranus-Pluto Square. This first conjunction was presented in the June 19, 2012 Lunar Planner.
“The asteroid Pallas, applier of truth, wisdom and justice, joins forces with the intellectual brilliance of revolutionary and inventive Uranus, adding a powerful dynamic to the opening of this event. This Uranus-Pluto Square is the first square in the 138-year Uranus-Pluto cycle that began in 1965, at the time of the Vietnam War and the uprising against it by the Flower Power Political Movement, which catalyzed a profound cultural transition. See “Revolution & Revelation: The Uranus-Pluto Square.”
The conjunction occurring now also fully engages the new 5-year Pallas-Uranus synodic cycle that began on October 23, 2012, present in the Uranus-Pluto article and in the October 15, 2012 Lunar Planner.
“This (Pallas-Uranus) conjunction adds a unique and highly creative quality to the (Uranus-Pluto) square, and now the Pallas-Uranus synthesis (synod) in sidereal Pisces engages for the next five years. It impels intelligent, creative and radically unique solutions to our existing world crisis in the interest of justice and equality for all people. At this location near mid-sidereal Pisces, it impels creative solution beyond side-taking to rise above the entrapments common to the psychic-emotional collective resonance of human consciousness and those entrapments created by the bureaucracies dominating our world.”
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, January is an ideal time to work with the Uranus audio meditation. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
Jupiter completes its retrograde on January 30, conjoining the Hyades in Taurus just hours before the Disseminating Moon. Jupiter now begins to move, once again, to its prominent placement conjoining Aldebaran at the apex of the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod, which will peak by the March 2013 Equinox.
NOTE: There is addition information added to the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod article, including the underlying synodic cycles created by the three planets, new illustrations/videos, more about the Saturn-Pluto sextile (which continues through the September 2013 equinox), and information about the upcoming 2020 Saturn-Pluto synodic cycle.
Jupiter’s direct station also marks the full engagement of the new Earth-Jupiter synodic cycle that began on December 3, 2012 conjoining Aldebaran and the Shield of Orion, presented in the November 13, 2012 Lunar Planner.
Two primary things are occurring here, the outward mobilization and expansion of the Jupiter-Aldebaran theme occurring now; and the crescendo into the primary activation and outward expression of the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter Yod, which occurs on the upcoming equinox—the stimulus to action point in our annual solar cycle.
Venus and Juno initiate their new synodic cycle on January 30, minutes after Jupiter’s station, discussed above.
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.
The Disseminating Moon occurs on January 30, 2013 just into sidereal Virgo. Conjoining stars include Benetnasch of Ursa Major; Zavijava of Virgo; Cor Caroli and the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of Canes Venatici; and Epsilon and Delta Crateris.
This is an incredibly significant Disseminating Moon because of the events leading into it mentioned above, most importantly due to Jupiter's prominent role in the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter-Vesta Yod, and it returning direct in the crescendo leading into this lunar phase shift—impelling progressive movement, acceleration and expansion.
Sidereal Virgo supports the preparation and purity of self for our greatest wellbeing and highest evolutionary attainment. On a mundane level, Virgo is of hard work; is health conscious and methodical in development and progress; it is of order, continuity, stability, new beginnings, cultivation, and harvest--the sign of agriculture. Virgo imparts a meticulous, organized nature and a strong focus in communication and logistics.
The first few degrees of sidereal Virgo have a transitional energetic, from the out-going, on stage dramatics of Leo into the purer, intellectual and spiritual aspects of Virgo. The Leo-Virgo cusp is however also of political-religious figureheads along with their grand diversionary dramatics.
Virgo can impel us to do more or it can impel us to become more--the lesson here is to realize the difference. Success is not doing more to achieve more. It is becoming more to attract success. This is the difference from a have-do-be mentality to a be-do-have mentality. The have-do-be mentality is where we think we need something we do not have, so we can do what we think we need to do, to become what we wish to be. The be-do-have mentality is to become more, to express what we have become, to have the success we wish. Success is not something to pursue, success is something we attract by what we become.
Benetnasch (Eta, Ursa Major) is the Tail of the Great Bear. The Arabic name for Benetnasch is Alkaid, which means "the leader." Benetnasch teaches that leadership is about facilitating the self-empowerment and freedom of others rather than about exerting manipulative force that controls others, mistaken as leadership and being in a position of power.
Benetnasch expresses the old dictatorial and totalitarian stream of consciousness that was predominantly dominant when Earth's polar alignment was tilted (had fallen) furthest from the galactic plane in Earth's great precessional year (about 6000 years ago). Thus Benetnasch is of this long-established totalitarian governing paradigm--generally of a patriarchal nature. It is of the political-religious factions of big business.
In its old form and when expressing with influence of the stars of late Leo (the tail of the Lion, the racket of Canes Venatici and the hot air of Antilia), Benetnasch articulates those who tend to act as manipulating and controlling godheads, which perpetuates a dogmatic societal structure that keeps individuals from becoming self-responsible and from evolving into their own self-mastery. It is of leadership that dictates what is right for people and what they should do by using dramatic and diversionary propaganda, rather than supporting others to make their own choices in freedom. It can be of the self-proclaimed saviors of the world who try to amass their blind followers for their own interest in maintaining a position of power and wealth. The days of dictators, gurus and followings, perhaps at one time served the sleeping masses, but they are now manipulative and suppressive to the emergence of a new soul-aware consciousness on Earth.
When expressing with more of Virgo's influence (and the stars of Coma Berenices, Crateris, and Velorum), and for the more mature and spiritually awakened, Benetnasch articulates leadership that provides opportunity for people to live in the freedom of their own choices and to become self-empowered, and to awaken in consciousness rather than acquiescing as blind followers.
M51 The Giant Whirlpool Galaxy &
its companion galaxy in Canes Venatici
This stunning image is a composite of images (infrared and visble) taken by European Space Agency's Herschel space observatory and the Hubble Space Telescope. Image Credit: Credit: NASA, ESA, and The Hubble Heritage Team (STScI/AURA)
Lying just under Benetnasch and conjoined in longitude is the Super-giant Whirlpool Galaxy M51 of Canes Venatici, the barking hounds, and Cor Caroli, the Alpha star of the hounds. Cor Caroli, M51, and Canes Venatici in general, embody the diversionary tactics, usually of a grandiose scale and glamorous facade, a front large enough to draw attention away from what is really of going on by making the masses believe the staged show is what is of extreme importance and of real issue--corruption at the highest of levels. A Super Nova was discovered in M51 on Apr. 2, 1994, marking another upsurge in this energetic.
Conjoining Benetnasch is Zavijava, which lies nearly on the ecliptic. Although a star of Virgo, Zavijava lies outside the realm of Virgo proper, before the head of the Virgin. It does not offer the clarity and purity of awareness common to the rest of the Virgo stars. Zavijava is of a passive and submissive character, articulating the blind and naïve followers of the Benetnasch directive / big business and government. These are most often innocent naive unquestioning people who get swayed by the diversionary dramatics of their manipulative leaders and believe in the miss-information they are being fed.
Benetnasch and Zavijava ask us to examine and discern whether we are blindly following self-proclaimed totalitarian authoritarian political-religious rulers and gurus and their propaganda or if we are seeking a deeper fulfillment (southern Crateris) based in and guided by true spiritual principles--trusting our own inner guidance. As business or political leaders, Benetnasch and Zavijava ask us to examine whether we are dictating behavior and are creating followings, or if we are facilitating the self-empowerment and freedom of those under us or those we may govern. They ask us to evolve how we are using power and our positions of authority--to learn that being in a position of power is a position of service.
Our Disseminating Moon: Keep in mind the New Moon theme (Lyra), the inspirational Aquarian Angel Point Crescent Moon, the new Mars-Neptune Enif of Pegasus synodic cycle theme, the new Mars-Chiron Diamond of Aquarius synodic cycle theme; the final Pallas-Uranus conjunction; the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter-Vesta Yod with the Juno-Venus-Pluto conjunction in mid-Sagittarius; and Vesta and Jupiter’s direct stations—all leading into our Demonstrable Moon.
Our Demonstrable Moon, marking the birth point in the lunar cycle, impels mobilization, acceleration and expansion. It especially emphasizes this in areas of work, business and politics. It may motivate this expansion in the old totalitarian paradigm of business and politics with more grandiose antics to lure the masses. Yet at the same time it provides phenomenal opportunity and motivation for the myriad of projects and organizations that are driven by people that are more emotionally mature, intellectually progressive and spiritually awakened, especially those taking active roles in creating a new social / world paradigm. This Demonstrable Moon, and this lunar cycle in general, is like flood gates opening for a tremendous potential of energy waiting its opportunity to mobilize.
Venus and Pluto initiate their new synodic cycle on January 31, discussed above.
The Last Quarter Moon creates our “inner need to initiate change” in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle’s last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on February 3 in sidereal Libra. The Moon lies just past Saturn one of the base points of the Saturn-Pluto-Jupiter-Vesta Yod, which it conjoined on our day of “inner need,” impelling a deep inward exploration of what really matters along with a need to bring it into manifestation.
The Moon conjoins Zubenelgenubi and Zubenelakribi of Libra; Gamma Corona Borealis; Zeta Centauri; and the Kapp Crusis star Cluster, know as the Jewel Box.
Although the constellation of Virgo begins in early sidereal Virgo, it extends into the first half of the sidereal sign of Libra. The Virgin lies supine with her head at the beginning of Virgo. Spica, Alpha Virgo, which marks the cusp of Virgo-Libra, lies exactly on the ecliptic plane and marks the base chakra (vesica pisces) of the Virgin. The Virgin's legs extend well into Libra, with her feet marking the center (15°) of sidereal Libra.
Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali (Alpha and Beta Libra) form the balance or scales of Libra in modern illustrations. They respectively lie at ~20° and ~24° Libra. These two stars are also the "Chelae of the Scorpion," extending from the sign of Scorpio and the Scorpion's head back into Libra, as rendered Johannes Kepler in his wood carving showing Ophiuchus standing over the Scorpion. With the rendering of the supine Virgin, we can see the Chelae of the Scorpion reaching toward the feet of the Virgin, in mid-sidereal Libra. The overall mythical image here is of the Virgin giving birth, with the Scorpion's claws reaching up to receive this birth. This image articulates the birthing of the soul into the reincarnational process of soul growth through the balance of experience. This mythical articulation is of course ignored when looking at signs alone.
Predating our current rendering of a supine Virgin, the Virgin was shown standing, only occupying sidereal Virgo, not Libra as well. In Egypt, this was Isis (a Greek derivation of the Egyptian hieroglyphs). Preceding this it was Inanna, Queen of Heaven, also the Babylonian Ishtar (I.Star).
A section of the Egyptian Book of the Dead written on papyrus showing the Weighing of the Heart in the Duat using the feather of Ma'at as the measure in balance.
Sidereal Libra was illustrated as the Balance Holder; also an upright figure, holding the scales of Libra. In Egyptian myth, this was Ma'at, who would weigh the human heart / soul at the time of death, with the soul in one scale and an ostrich feather (feather of Truth) in the other. If the heart / soul was heavier than the feather, the soul would need to reincarnate--needing to release its excess weight, or karma--the need to balance its incarnational experience.
The Egyptian Ma'at, although rendered as a woman with an ostrich feather in her hair, was not a deity passing judgment (as some scholars interpret this rendering), but a universal force expressing as balance and order, a natural justice based upon the law of basic equilibrium inherent to the universe. This natural force or principle, later got personified, as was common during the translation of hieroglyphics by Greco-Roman scholars, from which externalized religion was formulated, by those who did not understand that Egyptian imagery was a picture language conveying concepts and ideas, not beings that were worshiped or feared. Ma'at embodies the principle that the relationship between constituent parts must function in balance and as a unified whole.

In Greek myth, Ma'at transposes into the seer Themis, goddess of Mount Olympus, holding the scales in one hand and double-edged sword in the other. Themis was of divine order and law--often called upon to evoked social order, proper procedure and custom. Thesis was shown blindfolded, conveying judgment made with impartiality. In Christian imagery, Themis becomes Archangel Michael holding his double-edged sword of righteousness in one hand and the scales in the other. Note the shift from female figures to male! However, in all cases, Libra was depicted as a divine figure weighing the equanimity of a soul's incarnational experience.
Claudius Ptolemy (AD 90 – AD 168) is attributed to bastardizing this imagery of Virgo and Libra by changing the Virgin's upright position to one lying supine, and by removing the image of anyone holding the scales altogether, leaving only the scales--totally obscuring the revelation that Virgo and Libra, as the Balance Holder, had to offer, especially about reincarnation and the natural balance of experience. The symbol of the scales, as they are used today, thus became merely about social order, leaving the question: Order imposed by whom? This would seem to become the Roman church-state in power at the time, under which Ptolemy lived and worked. The "lady of justice" was then used on the Roman Coin, without blindfold; and today she is now merely a metaphorical image used by many judicial systems that dictate proper procedure and social order.
Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali are also the karmic and dharmic seats for humanity; the former about our past experience and patterns of growth, and the latter about our future path of experience and growth, that which we have yet to do, our capacity, or duty in a sense, to do it differently--to grow and change. Zubenelgenubi, the southern claw, indicates a responsibility to address or complete any entrapping situations--unfinished business, or simply entrapping patterns and scenarios in this life. Zubenelgenubi also marks Saturn’s exalted location in the ecliptic. Saturn is often called the lord of karmic retribution. Zubeneschamali, the northern claw, indicates a responsibility to step forward from our past patterns of growth and life scenarios into our intended new experience, into our future destiny, by taking the responsibility to choose a new experience, to choose a new way of participating. It is through this balance of experience that we free ourselves from our past, or better to say, that fulfills our past.
This is why Libra is considered to be the scales of justice--implying the need to experience both sides (a balance) of human experience in order to gain self-mastery as an incarnating soul. It does not imply the guilt trip laden idea of paying for misdeeds deemed by a governing church-state that pretends to stand between an incarnate soul and God--a ploy used in ancient times to control and manipulate the masses. Nor does it refer to paying for past deeds done in a prior incarnation. Here, in the reincarnational clutches of the Scorpion, the incarnating soul learns self-responsibility and self-mastery, to claim the true freedom that the scales of Libra stand for, by choice, by choosing to move from the patterns and scenarios of the past and to participate in a new way, to step into a new way of being, upon a new path of experience--in essence to complete one's destiny or incarnational purpose of soul growth.
Further articulating this theme is the neck and head of the serpent, held in the hand of Ophiuchus, reaching for the Northern Crown, which lies north of the Scorpion's chelae; and the stars of the Centaur, teacher of self-mastery in the physical world, which lie south of the chelae and over the Southern Cross.
Stars of the Southern Cross (and the Jewlbox) embody the pure unadulterated essence of our soul purpose in the world--the original cardinality (pure intent) of the soul before the aberrations, confusions, attitudes, and beliefs incurred by the soul throughout its entire incarnational sojourn. The Northern Crown articulates achieving evolutionary freedom from the reincarnational path of soul growth (in the scales of Libra) by living from that cardinality (from soul's pure intent)—hence also articulating the meaning of the rendering of the Egyptian Ma'at as the balance holder (Libra).
Our Last Quarter Moon brings attention to two things, at the least. One is that it brings us to a choice, to initiate change based upon the guidance offered by higher soul-level self (that true inner knowing we sometimes ignore), or to step right back into the patterns of the past that keep us bound from living in a new octave of light and radiance. Secondly, our Last Quarter Moon may also bring us to realize it is time to start a completion process of any life scenarios that are no longer in our best interest, or that are holding us back from living the pure intent of our souls.
Ceres completes its retrograde on February 4 in late sidereal Taurus, and conjoining the enterprising stars of Orion. This fully engages the new Earth-Ceres synodic cycle that began in mid-December, presented in the November 13, 2012 Lunar Planner.
Ceres also creates a Yod with Eris to the North Lunar Node, which continues throughout the first half of the following lunar cycle. The North Lunar Node conjoins Unakalhai of Serpens. This was the New Moon location of the November 13, 2012 Lunar Planner.
Unukalhai (Alpha Serpens), along with Beta Serpens and other stars, form the neck and head of the Serpent. They lie north of the Zubeneschamali and Agena, Beta Centauri, teacher of self-mastery.
In our stellar image, Ophiuchus stands upon the Scorpion, with the serpent (Serpentis) coiled around his body and held in his hands. The neck and head of the serpent reach and point toward the Northern Crown (Corona Borealis), which lies above the Chelae (claws) of the Scorpion. The neck (Unukalhai) and head of the snake embody the essence and wisdom of living true to soul, having claimed one's true self-mastery--as a (soul infused) being, in mastery over the forces of life and death. Unukalhai’s close conjunction with Zubeneschamali articulates the need to claim one's self-mastery beyond entrapment in the patterns of the past and to demonstrably live in that mastery.
This Finger of God demands we claim the wisdom from the economical upsets of the past and to enterprisingly do what we need to do to ensure our nourishment and to claim our mastery, rather than repeating the patterns of the past.
The Lagoon Nebula stellar nursery conjoins the "Gate of God."
The Lagoon Nebula
Like brush strokes on a canvas, ridges of color seem to flow across the Lagoon Nebula, a canvas nearly 3 light-years wide. The colors map emission from ionized gas in the nebula were recorded by the Hubble Space Telescope's Advanced Camera for Surveys. Also known as M8, the nebula is a star-forming region in the constellation Sagittarius. Hubble's remarkably sharp, close-up view reveals undulating shapes sculpted by the energetic light and winds from the region's new born stars. Of course, the Lagoon Nebula is a popular target for earthbound skygazers, too. Image Credit: NASA
The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.
The Balsamic Moon occurs on February 6 just past the Gate of God of Earth’s Precessional Cross in early sidereal Sagittarius conjoining the Solar Apex and Al Nasl, the tip of the Zen Archer’s arrow. This is location of the Sun-Juno conjunction just after the December 2012 solstice—also bringing attention to partnerships of all types.
To reiterate: “The themes of the Solar Apex, The Gate of God, the tip of the Zen Archer's arrow, and the dazzling surrounding nebulas all amalgamate. Here we are asked to take aim and undauntedly pursue our ideals and dreams in total trust. To Believe! This amalgamate asks us to focus without hesitancy or doubt upon our soul purpose in life and to know that our unique paths, although often obscured, nest within the greater directive and in the spacetiming of the evolutionary cycle of the soul collective on Earth. Here we are asked to live true to our soul intent and to live and act in the now, in the moment-to-moment focus, undaunted in the zeropoint power of Divine Love and Truth.”
Thus the experience of this Lyrian lunar cycle coalesces into the seed that will sprout anew on the following New Moon.
Our next New Moon occurs on February 10, 2013 in late sidereal Capricorn, in the overlap of Aquarius and Capricorn and conjoining Nashira of Capricorn, Beta Guis and Sadalsuud of Aquarius—a fortuitous and serendipitous location. More to come then.
