Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are—our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

Lunar Cycle Overview

This New Moon conjoins Pluto in the midst of the Sagittarian Zen Archer. Conjoining stars include Nunki of Sagittarius, the fletching of his arrow, and those forming the hand of the archer. This is the Zen Archer's energy drawn and ready to release in its full potential, provoking action to pierce our false beliefs and veils of illusion to hit the target of our highest ideals and to live for a greater truth. They inspire a Zen stance based from our inner core resonance, undaunted by the turmoil of a crumbling old paradigm. Pluto in Sagittarius becomes the revealer of a greater truth. Pluto works by exposing and deconstructing all that is lesser than the higher ideals the Zen Archer is willing to live and die for. Facing the naked truth is the hallmark of this lunar cycle.

Jupiter and Venus, both in the midst of their retrogrades begin new synodic cycles with Earth. The Jupiter cycle is 399 days. This synod occurs in the midst of the Gemini twins and conjoins Sirius and Canopus, two extremely significant stars. The Venus cycle is 584 days. This is the first new Venus-Earth cycle after the Venus Transit occurring in June of 2012. These two retrogrades and new cycles are two of several occurring over the immediate months ahead, providing a redefining period in several facets of our lives, all of which will inspire a new octave of creative expression in April of 2014. Venus will complete its retrograde on the following New Moon, engaging a new expression of our values and heart based upon the inner passage occurring now.

Juno, asteroid of covenant relations and partnerships of all types, conjoin Neptune and Chiron in this lunar cycle, precipitating the expression of a new ideological model about what constitutes relationships and how we interrelate. The dissolution of previous relationships or ideologies about relationships, along with the formation of a new ideological model began in November of 2013. That which engages now inspires us to heal relationship issues of the past and to cross a bridge into a more wholesome societal modality in our interpersonal relations.

These are but a few of many events occurring in this lunar cycle. The Monthly Lunar Planner explores the details of these events, their meaning and more—the underlying cosmic currents upon which we evolve and which guide our daily lives—based in star-level astronomical astrology and synodic astrology.

About Synodic Cycles

Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution as a collective.

Our Jan 1, 2014 Sagittarian New Moon conjoins Nunki and Phi of Sagittarius; and Beta, Delta and Epsilon of Scutum. It also lies over the stars forming Corona Australis and conjoins the southern Spiral Galaxy NGC 6744 in Pavo. This is the location of the Jupiter's South Node in the ecliptic, which is a principle and energized location because this is also the location of Pluto during the primary synodic (heliocentric) Uranus-Pluto square and the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto synodic T-Square, which occurred on November 23-24, 2013. Also note that the geocentric T-square continues from June 7, 2013 through August 20, 2014, with the primary Mars-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto Grand Square occurring in April 2014. Thus, this New Moon and this lunar cycle creates a primary activation of the Uranus-Pluto square and the Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto T-Square. The themes of these events and the significance of Pluto on Jupiter's South Node are presented in detail in the article: "Revolution & Revelation: The Uranus-Pluto Square 2012-2015," and in the November 3, 2013 Solar Eclipse Lunar Planner.

This lunar cycle fully engages and sets in motion the action quarter of the 138-year Uranus-Pluto synodic cycle that began in the mid-1960s, the action quarter of the 13.5-year Jupiter-Uranus synodic cycle that began in September of 2010; and the revelatory mid-point of the 13-year Jupiter-Pluto synodic cycle that began in November of 2007. The emphasis here is the mobilization of a revolutionary turning in our lives and in our world, one that will continue to unfold over the months and years ahead.

Expressing a New Theme

A new theme emerges. A new idea, a new concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, a spontanious message, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen. A simple word or phrase may pop into your mind during this quite time describing the new lunar theme in a way that is unique to you, or perhaps a simple feeling or knowing will come over you. The ability to listen, honor and trust the inner is all that is required at this time. The ideal time to attune to your New Moon theme is exactly as the New Moon occurs, or at sunrise after the New Moon if the New Moon occurred during the night.

New Moon Star Chart

Nunki, Sigma Sag, (and Phi of Sagittarius at the Archer's hand), marks the fletching of the Zen Archer's arrow. The fletching of an arrow is what causes it to spin and have stability in flight, making it possible for the arrow to accurately move through space to hit its target. Nunki teaches us to steer our intent with undaunted focus, which is the guiding and stabilizing force used to achieve our goals. Nunki is also of fluidity and form in movement.

Ascella, Zeta Sagittarius, is a binary star system, and is the third brightest star in Sagittarius. Although, traditionally meaning the armpit, or more succinctly, the junction of the archer's shoulder and the outstretched arm holding the bow, along which the archer takes aim, Ascella lies more so at the breast or heart of the Centaur, slightly south of Nunki. The two stars are about one degree in ecliptical longitude, thus tightly conjoined. Ascella embodies the heart of the Zen Archer, not the physical heart, but the Archer's power of intent—the truth within from which he lives.

Ascella and Nunki are where the pure intent and vision of the Zen Archer is transferred into the power and focus that drives and steers the archer's arrow. This is a place of applied power in sidereal Sagittarius. It articulates the combined qualities of vision and high ideals with the inherent force and power applied with undaunted focus to achieve our ideals and visions. There must be movement / velocity for the fletching of an arrow (Nunki) to steer the arrow’s course. Thus we must not only access our intent of purpose, but we must move it, apply it with focused deliberation through conscious action from a place of stability and confidence to transform our intent of purpose into the manifestation of our greater ideals and visions.

Several star qualities amalgamate around the Zen Archer's hand holding the taunt arrow: Nunki (Sigma), Phi, Ascella (Zeta), Tau, Nu, and Xi of Sagittarius. This is the warrior's core energy in its full potential, drawn and ready to release, provoking action that is life supportive—hence Sag is the spiritual warrior. This location marks the central vertical golden essence of the Archer, a point of equipoise and balance. It is where we align all of the light fibers of our being into a coherent whole and focus that totality in controlled action.

Ascella and Nunki also conjoin and lie over a semi-circle of stars and the Coronet Star Cluster forming Corona Australis, the Southern Crown, which is protected by the Zen Archer. They include Alphecca Meridiana (Alpha), Beta and Gamma of Corona Australis.

Corona Australis, considered an auspicious constellation, had been in existence since time immemorial. It is associated with the "Laurel Crown," a sign of victory, as worn by the Greek god Apollo—and hence the name Laureate. "Hipparchos new (Corona Australis) as the Caduceus of Hermes (the Egyptian Thoth)—(a staff entwined by two serpents topped with gold wings); or Herald's Wand of Peace (from the Greek karykeion); and Ptolemy simply saw it as the Southern Wreath; as it was also illustrated by Johann Bayer. It was illustrated as a plain heart-shaped object in the Alfonsine Tables. It has also been referred to as the Crown of Sagittarius (Corona Sagittarii), originating from the outspreading sun's rays in crown like form shown around the Gandharvas, the Aryan celestial horses that are suggested to be the forerunners to the Centaurs." (Richard Hinckley Allen). The Gandharvas were all male and the mates of the all female Apsaras, both of a pure unadulterated nature. The Apsaras were akin to beautiful water or forest nymphs, and the Gandharvas were ethereal beings of the air, forests, and mountains known for their musical and mystical skills and skill with the forces of nature. The Gandharvas were also stewards of Soma, the golden nectar or ambrosia of the gods. Thoth / Heremes is also associated with conjoining Lyra, Harp of the Angels, which embodies the healing artsciences of light, sound and geometry.

Corona Australis, the Southern Crown, underlying and protected by the Archer, embodies the wisdom of alchemy—of using natural forces to manifest a higher order or achieve a higher purpose, ideal or goal. This is an alchemical process; one initiated by evocation. A caduceus in physics uses two polarities or energetic fields in such a way that they cancel each other (how a caduceus coil is wound), which in essence opens a zero-point portal in space and time. This is the wisdom of the Centaurian Archer who establishes the caduceus within—the balanced cancellation of polarity within self, which activates the entwined spiritual currents (kundalini) up the spine, which in turn illuminates the pineal in the brain. This opens the perfect path in space through which the archer's arrow hits its target of unified consciousness (galactic awareness).

Scutum is “The Galactic Shield of the Precessional Cross” and lies just north of the Zen Archer along the galactic equator and north of the Galactic Equatorial Node (GEN), the Gate if God. The Galactic Shield is emblazoned with the symbol of Earth’s Precessional Cross (the cross within the circle). Scutum is “Defender of the Cross”—of the greater evolutionary precessional cycle of the soul—what the Zen Archer undauntedly lives, stands and unquestionably is willing to die for. To learn more about the Cycle of Earth’s Precessional Cross and the precessionally driven Evolutionary Cycle of the Soul, visit Earth's Precessional Cycle.

This New Moon impels us to apply pure intent, undaunted with the power and conviction of our inner truths to pierce any limitations, false beliefs, or illusions to achieve our greater ideals and dreams. It initiates and intense lunar cycle, one about the getting to the core truth of the matter, whatever that may be in our individual lives. It is about quality rather than about how much we have or do not have. It is about raw inner power and the application of that power with intent of purpose. It is about passion or getting in touch with our passion. It is about psychological transformation and renewal of spirit. It may impel us to let go of patterns of behavior or ways of thinking that limit us from moving forward, or to redirect what might be negative patterns into more positive channels or pursuits.

The Sun-Pluto conjunction also marks the mid-point of realization in the current Earth-Pluto cycle, presented in the June 8, 2013 Lunar Planner.

Releasing Restricting Patterns

Just prior to the first Crescent Moon, we can realize the opportunity for growth that the Lunar Cycle has to offer. What surfaces now is: How I would have done this in the past, the old or established ways, based on past experience. Here we have the opportunity to let go of any limiting or restricting thought patterns, much like sluffing off the protective sheath of a seed now beginning to sprout, as that sheath would only limit the unfoldment of the new theme and our own growth. The Crescent Moon marks the time when the theme would like to grow into a more expansive form. By consciously honoring, accepting in love, and letting go of our old concepts, we allow ourselves to move forth into the expansive growing phase of the Lunar Cycle.
Characteristic just AFTER the Crescent Moon.
Beginning the Growing Phase of the Lunar Cycle
Expanding upon the Theme

This is a time when the currently held vision begins to expand into a greater form. New possibilities of unfoldment would like to grow—possibilities not realized before. This 3 1/2 day Growng Phase is a time of engaging our creativity and integrating it with the original theme, identifying its unique and full potential. It is a time of allowing a realistic and achievable plan of action to evolve, a time of inspiration, and a time to have faith in ours creative process.

The Crescent Moon
Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon occurs on January 4 in early sidereal Aquarius. It conjoins Juno by 2° and Neptune by 4°. The significance of the Juno-Neptune synthesis for relationships was presented in the November 3, 2013 Solar Eclipse Lunar Planner. Juno will conjoin Neptune on January 8 and Chiron on January 25, motivating this shift for relationships of all types.

Conjoining stars include Gienah of Cygnus and the Cygnus X-3 Eclipsing X–ray Source; the Globular Cluster of stars M15 in Pegasus; the Helix Nebula NGC 7293.

This location in early sidereal Aquarius is where we are motivated to strip off the cloaks of personality-based facades and shenanigans to reveal true heart-level self and to live from our deeper hearts' truth for the greater nourishment of all. Sadr, heart of the Swan, on the cusp, through the tip of the wing of Cygnus, Gienah, lifts us from a self-centered exclusive focus to a more embracing and inclusive level of participation. This marks the start of the revolutionary, visionary and humanitarian facet of the zodiak.

The Helix Nebula NGC 7293

This colour-composite image of the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) was created from images obtained using the Wide Field Imager (WFI), an astronomical camera attached to the 2.2-metre Max-Planck Society/ESO telescope at the La Silla observatory in Chile. The blue-green glow in the centre of the Helix comes from oxygen atoms shining under effects of the intense ultraviolet radiation of the 120 000 degree Celsius central star and the hot gas. Further out from the star and beyond the ring of knots, the red colour from hydrogen and nitrogen is more prominent. A careful look at the central part of this object reveals not only the knots, but also many remote galaxies seen right through the thinly spread glowing gas. ESO

Cygnus X-3 resides in a unique galactic equatorial area, one of the galactic "sacks of coal," a dark void along the galactic plane that is easily seen between Sadr and Deneb on a dark starry night. Cygnus X-3 is an X-ray binary star system similar to Cygnus X-1 except its period is extraordinarily rapid at 4.8 hours, compared to the 5.6-day period of Cygnus X-1 (in later Capricorn), which is more common for binary star systems. The periodic rate of Cygnus X-3 is almost five octaves up from Cygnus X-1 and harmonically translates into the visible spectrum at 5615.40323 Angstroms, the color Yellow–Lemon. Cygnus X-3 is a dynamic, accelerating force, lifting mind to a higher or more embracing awareness.

Cygnus X-3 enters the ecliptic, along with Gienah, the binary star Epsilon Cygnus, the right outstretch wing tip of the Swan, and also with M15, a fainter globular star cluster in Pegasus. Cygnus X-3 is a principal force expressing in early sidereal Aquarius.

Cygnus X-3 invites us to surrender our preconceptions of self and our descriptive judgments of others that uphold our isolationist way of being. Cygnus X-3 invites us to participate beyond our segregated ways based on gender, race, creed, or culture and open ourselves to new experience only available when we are willing to embrace the uniqueness of all life. Here we must shed the mortal facades we ware and participate from our true essence and to see the same in others. Mutually exclusive attractions create factions amongst our true soul-level friends and families. Here lies the embracing aspect of the Aquarian Waterman, to participate in the inclusiveness of universal (Uranian) love. The conjoining Globular Cluster of very old stars (old souls), M15 in Pegasus, inspires active and focused participation as mature, consciously awake individuals. M15 is one of the most densely packed globular star clusters in our Galaxy.

Also of influence is Enif of Pegasus and Sadalmelik of Aquarius, which Juno and Neptune conjoin.

Sadalmelik, the "lucky one of the kingdom," is the directing force of the flowing nourishment from the Humanitarian Waterbearer. Sadalmelik creates an air of recognition and acceptance in the kingdom of human affairs—especially for those involved in the arts, sciences and social pursuits. Sadalmelik can bring fortuitous opportunity for those with humanitarian interest, and who are in those arenas where such interest can be expressed. Sadalmelik is of leadership and prominent alignments with it inspire visionary administration of humanitarian efforts.

The stars of Pegasus, in general, are of strength and support, that which lifts humanity above the entrapping forces and scenarios common to a less than socially mature world. Enif, Baham and Homam are a group of fortuitous stars that lie over the Aquarian waterbearer, forming the head of Pegasus.

Enif of Pegasus, the nose of the magical flying horse, brings intuitiveness and sensitivity to the humanitarian / Aquarian pursuit. Enif is characteristic of altruistic people, those with the intuitive awareness to recognize what is of essence, of value, and worthy of humanitarian support. Enif is often of people who are capable of providing material and financial support and who have the sensitivity to do so. A fortuitous star, Enif asks us to follow our intuition to do what is truly supportive to our greater wellbeing and to those around us. Enif and Baham, lying over the Diamond of Aquarius, impel us to lift and elevate, to make possible that which otherwise would not be without such altruistic support.

Our Crescent Moon expands upon our Sagittarian Pluto-New Moon theme impelling us to openly co-participate without any facades or pretense, with the intent to help others, especially to help alleviate struggle or suffering. It brings impetus toward altruistic gestures or humanitarian pursuits.

The New Jupiter Synodic Cycle

The Sun, Earth and Jupiter align on January 5 initiating a new 399-day Jupiter synodic cycle. The last Earth-Jupiter cycle began on December 3, 2012 in mid-sidereal Taurus conjoining Aldebaran, presented in the November 13, 2012 Lunar Planner. This synod occurs in sidereal Gemini and conjoins Mekbuda of Gemini; Sirius of Canis Major; and Canopus of Argo Navis.

Jupiter imparts a mobilizing and expansive force. It stimulates fluidity in movement, vitality and enthusiasm. It is of reciprocity—how we receive and re-express that which we have gained as gifts to the world. Jupiter expresses in openness and willingness to palpate and embrace life, people and experience. It imparts a kinesthetic and magnetic quality; and reveals our physical fitness, strength and coordination.

Jupiter motivates us to aspire for something larger in our lives, beyond our current bounds. Jupiter will tend to magnify and expand the qualities of any other planet that it conjoins. Jupiter is often associated with money and the flow of resources because Jupiter is a mobilizing force and money is a mobilizing agent.

Jupiter is of higher or natural law, as compared to man’s laws. It is of Spiritual Truth and stimulates action upon this greater truth. Jupiter is serendipitous, opportunistic, fortunate and lucky; with taste for and appreciation of elegance end beauty (along with Venus). It is fun loving, good natured, free and independent. Jupiter impels us to participate freely in the material world and to participate in universal flow.

Debilitated Jupiter can express as a fear of travel, movement or expansion. It can express a fear of loss or lack, thus hoarding in nature. It can be spiritually shallow. In its acute expression, Jupiter can be gluttonous, zealous, exaggerated, showy, and hypocritical.

Jupiter governs muscle coordination and motor skills; the muscles, ligaments, the lymph, buttocks and the legs, which are the pump for the lymphatic system. Associated brain centers are: Animation / Life—cortex, psyche, soma energy centre, and hypothalamus. Sensory Locomotion—mid-cortex, the kinesthetic and sensory motor area. More about Jupiter and Jupiter synods.

Mekbuda, Zeta Gemini, marks the left knee of Pollux, the ambassador. Mekbuda inspires change and transformation, and imparts an assertive nature to right that which is unjust, unfair or out of balance. Mekbuda conjoins Sirius and Canopus.

Sirius, Alpha Canis Major, is the impetuous and blazing Great World Teacher, knowledge-holder of ancient hermetic wisdom. Significant alignments with Sirius can bring teachings, lessons, or events of a global or profound proportion, those that can catalyze tremendous evolutionary change. Although Sirius is not at all of a malevolent nature, such events or lessons can seemingly be imposed upon us without the compassion we might otherwise prefer. Sirius, due to its head strong and authoritarian nature, can also indicate the need to set things free so they can take their own evolutionary course rather than forcefully manipulating a scenario or the experience of others for some specific outcome based on a sense of righteousness or self-importance—thinking we know what is right for another or that we are responsible to define another's life experience—a miss-placed sense of responsibility. Here lies need to learn about boundaries and to guide but release our offspring, siblings, partners, or creations to their own destinies. Expressing through sidereal Gemini, Sirius' influence is often experienced in the world of commerce or through high intensity intellectual communication. Sirius also inspires a quest for liberty and human rights.

Conjoining Sirius from the southern heavens is Canopus, Alpha Carina of Argo Navis, lying along the galactic plane. Argo Navis classically is the ship in the story of Jason and the Argonauts, a derivation of the older Sumerian story, Gilgamesh and his fifty Sirian warriors. The Argo lies reverse in the heavens, stern to the east, bow to the west, along the galactic equator, thus associated with that which moves retrograde in the heavens, the greater precessional process on Earth, the evolutionary cycle of the soul. The stars of the Argo are generally associated with evolutionary matters for the entire planetary system, and for all souls evolutionary growth and fulfillment.

Canopus is the second brightest star in the heavens after Sirius. Sirius is relatively close to us estimated at 8.6 light years. Canopus, of another galactic sector altogether, is estimated to be about 312 light years distant. Canopus is a supergiant star, estimated to be about 65 times the diameter of our Sun and about 15,000 times as bright. Sirius appears brighter only because it is much closer than Canopus.

As director / navigator of the Argo, Canopus brings attention to our responsibility to steer our evolutionary course and to see to the greater evolutionary fulfillment of all souls and all life on Earth. Canopus also brings awareness to the repercussions of global events and how they affect the greater surrounding cosmology. An older derivation of Canopus is the Egyptian Kahi Nub, meaning "Golden Earth"—representative of the vision held for our beloved Earth by this helmsman, a Golden Earth meaning an illumined soul-awakened world. Prominent alignments with Sirius and Canopus can herald potent global experience that serves us to change and grow, or that alter our evolutionary course. These stars bring attention to more comprehensive matters and concerns regarding the overall evolutionary plan for the entire world. They bring attention to issues about global governance and dominance.

This Jupiter cycle brings emphasis to interaction amongst humankind that can dramatically alter our evolutionary course. It impels us to expand our awareness through the exchange of information and knowledge, through verbal communication and the written word. This cycle stimulates us to see and understand the overall picture rather than the pieces. Events of a global proportion occurring within this cycle can serve this purpose, as well as to help humanity open their eyes to the greater ramifications effecting the entire world by actions that are taken from a segmented view of life rather than with consideration for the whole. This cycle will fully engage when Jupiter completes its retrograde on March 6, 2014, which then leads into the Mars-Jupiter-Uranus-Pluto Grand Square occurring in April.

The geocentric Sun-Jupiter opposition also creates a T-square with Mars in sidereal Virgo, conjoining Algorab or Corvus. This brings emphasis to creative action in leadership by being attentive to and responding to the messages expressing through the natural world around us. This energetic expresses into sidereal Pisces (Alpheratz and Alderamin, also the ecliptical location of Jupiter's perihelion), to help free those held in bondage or financial limitation for the opportunity to manifest their greater potential.

Pallas Retrograde

Pallas begins its retrograde in sidereal Leo on January 6. Pallas will return direct on April 8, 2014. This retrograde begins the transition period from the previous Pallas synodic cycle that started on September 24, 2012 and into the next, which occurs in the midst of its retrograde on February 22 2014.

External Stimulus

Just before first-quarter moon, we draw an external stimulus to ourselves. This is some event outside of self occurring in our lives or in the world that impels a challenge to act on the creative ideas we have been evolving. The external stimulus provides the impetus to move forth from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. This is a time when any fears or doubts hidden within may surface to be embraced. To move forward through the I can’ts and the reasons why not is to move through our own limitations into a new level of self-empowerment. Not stepping into action results in opportunity lost and no growth. Many people drop the ball at this point in the lunar cycle. Don't be one.

Initiate Action

Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about. The inspiration is now gone, it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Remember, the flower that is about to burst forth from the bud is not yet visible. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. The creative tension brought forth by the external stimulus now shifts into opportunity and unfoldment. This is a time for practical application of your talents. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. What you are putting together now is the groundwork for the manifestation of the theme. Simply, this phase is a time to work.

First Quarter Moon
Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on January 7-8 in late sidereal Pisces. The Moon conjoins Revati of Pisces; Tau Cetus; Lambda on the bound arm of Andromeda; and Nodus Secundus of Draco.

In the far northern heavens is Nodus Secundus of Draco, the second node or fold in the ever-watchful Dragon, who guards the atlas of the heavens (North Ecliptic Pole). This is the Delta star of Draco, also called Altais, and also Aldib. Altais lies about 4° from the North Ecliptic Pole. Altais of the Dragon reminds us to be watchful from a place of emotionally removed clarity in order to have perspective about the worldly drama lest we may fall into a sense of perpetual helplessness in what appears to be an irresolvable situation.

Here we are asked to become attentive to the fact that our intent of purpose can be diverted and dispersed by psychic-emotional forces that congest us when toxic physical conditions exist either in ourselves or in our environments, or when we are naive to such forces, or simply in mental-emotional denial about them. Our psychic-emotional fog can then perpetuate confused life scenarios, antiquated involvements, or entrapments that are no longer in our highest interest or serving our greater wellbeing. This initiatory gate of the Dragon provides an opening once emotional clarity is gained to escape entrapment in the fear-based monster of collective consciousness. Also conjoining Altais is Tau Ceti, a sign or mark of strength that indicates the emotional strength gained from our trials stimulates our expulsion from what may have been a tormenting and entrapping scenario.

Nearby in longitude and on the ecliptic in Pisces is Revati, Zeta Pisces. Revati literally means riches, money, wealth, and financial resources. Prominent alignments with Revati can indicate material wealth gained from participating in the dramatic psycho-emotional world of human affairs. This zodiakal longitude is a couple of degrees to that of Baten Kaitos, the belly of ole Cetus, where the transformative process occurs while in the whale of human emotional experience. Revati and Baten Kaitos also mark the exalted seat of Venus—bringing attention to the relation of the flow of abundance, emotional clarity, and living from the heart.

Our First Quarter Moon also forms a loose Grand square with the Moon, Eris and Uranus in sidereal Pisces opposite Mars, Haumea, Vesta and Ceres in sidereal Virgo; and with the Sun, Pluto, retrograde Venus and Mercury in sidereal Sagittarius opposite retrograde Jupiter in sidereal Gemini—creating a dynamic stimulus to action.

Emotionally driven issues surrounding financial resources and/or entrapments due to financial resources may contribute to our stimulus to action to create greater freedom in our lives or in the lives of others, or to help alleviate emotional stress and turmoil.

The New Venus Synodic Cycle

Sun, Venus and Earth align on January 11. From Earth's view, the Sun and Venus reside in sidereal Sagittarius. From the Sun's view Venus and Earth reside in sidereal Gemini, the location of the synod, a few degree past Jupiter. Conjoining stars include Castor and Pollux of Gemini; Delta Monoceros; Muliphen and Adhara of Canis Major; and Gomeisa of Canis Minor.

The astrophysical resonances of Venus govern the heart bio-energy centre (chakra), and the thymus, which is the neurological control center for the immune system. Like the thyroid (governed by Mercury) is reflexed to the liver, the thymus is reflexed to the spleen. The heart chakra is our centre of intuitive knowing, harmony, magnetic attraction, that which we value, love, romance, and sexual rapture. It is where we find our capacity for compassion and appreciation of beauty. The heart chakra and thymus resonate to the emotional tone of fear and judgment. It is fear that shuts the heart down and causes all immune related problems. We defend our fear with judgment. The astrophysical resonances of Venus also govern heart musculature and firing, lungs, bronchiole, and breasts.

Venus (and the heart chakra), when mature and clear, expresses love in art and beauty, with a wonderful capacity for unconditional acceptance of all conditions--true, non-judgmental love. The unconditionally open heart receives and expresses love that is harmoniously balanced. Mature Venus is open to new experience, is courageous, optimistic, and aware of soul intent and purpose--as the unconditionally open heart is where soul fully radiates its light. Mature Venus is also sociable, fashionable, artistic, good willed, benevolent, diplomatic, and magnetically sensuous. Venus is also of what we value, thus influencing wealth and resources in our lives and she can play an influential role in financial matters and the flow of money. More about Venus and Venus Synodic Cycles.

The Twins are marked by the two principal lucidas: Pollux the immortal, extraterrestrial one, and Castor is the mortal, the terrestrial one, the extraterrestrial incarnate—these two stars which mark the last few degrees of sidereal Gemini, embody the essence of the Twins, and are depicted as their heads in mythical illustration.

Castor is the liaison or manger in the world of daily human affairs, and is of partnerships and cooperation. Castor brings resources and people together that serve to get logistics accomplished in the world of business and commerce; whereas Pollux is more of the ambassador and leader, bringing a greater awareness to the efforts of Castor, and uniting groups and factions with concern for the greater evolutionary fulfillment of all parties.

In January 2002, a deceptively ordinary star suddenly flashed to at least 4,000 times its previous brightness. For several weeks, the red supergiant star was the most brilliant star in the Milky Way. Image & Caption Credit: NASA, ESA and H.E. Bond (STScI)

Although the Twins (Castor and Pollux) are of communication and human betterment, they have in some legend been at odds with each other, a bit argumentative. Here is the Gemini trait of competitiveness, debate, arbitration, and negotiation, but ultimately leading to agreement and solution.

Conjoining Castor from the south is Muliphen (Mirza) and Adhara of Canis Major, a part of the hindquarter of Canis Major. The Arabic Adhara means virgins (and should not be confused with Aludra, the pure one of the bread, which is nearby in longitude but not in distance). Adhara is the aid, assistant or manager, those in a liaison position in larger cooperative groups or organizations. Adhara inspires co-participation and the emergence of colleagues and friends to lend a hand to Castor's efforts. Adhara and Muliphen inspire people, partners, and soul mates that have disappeared or withdrawn to re-emerge as a steady and dependable presence. Also conjoining is Delta Monoceros, a star of the Unicorn, inviting us to embrace the unique gifts and diverse talents of all participants.

Gomeisa is assistant to the principal star of Canis Minor, Procyon, which also conjoins Pollux and which marks the sidereal Gemini-Cancer cusp. Procyon is of larger groups and organizations working for the betterment humanity in business and commerce. Gomeisa can indicate those with special expertise in the area of negotiation and communication, sometimes those that assist such efforts behind the scenes.

This Venus cycle brings emphasis to public relations and to liaisons, which articulates the nature of the Twins—linking individuals together in larger groups or organizations that can serve a purpose far greater than the separate parties can accomplish alone. Here we find motivation for the coordination and exchange of resources and information between individuals and groups, as well as the planning of more encompassing joint ventures. Venus in this area of Gemini brings emphasis not so much to relationships but to what relationships can accomplish through communication and the exchange of knowledge and expertise, working together for the greater good or for greater projects that aid diverse groups with similar purpose.

From Earth's view, retrograde Venus and the Sun in late sidereal Sagittarius, opposite the synod's location, conjoin the Neutron Star and X-Ray Source SS433, and Deneb Al Okab (Zeta) Aquila; and Sulaphat and the Starseed Ring Nebula M57 in Lyra.

Lyra Star Chart

Lyra, in the northern heavens, articulates the nature of late Sagittarius. It is home to Vega, Alpha Lyra, the Harp-Star. The stars of Lyra embody various facets of the artsciences of harmonics in light, sound, color, and geometry—particularly the wisdom of the artsciences. They are of lofty vision, creativity, and inspire all that is of multi-media, the arts, and higher education.

Lyra is the Lyre of Hermes, originally bestowed with the qualities to invoke and communicate the messages of the gods. As the harp of the angelic messengers, its tuning and voice not only impart beauty, beneficence, eloquence, and sensibility to the Zen Archer, but specifically translate divine information into vibration that supports transmutational healing and the spiritual awakening of consciousness.

Lyra, and prominent alignments with Lyra, often indicate involvement with the music of the spheres, that is, the use of natural astronomically and resonant harmonics for healing, illumination, and for greater evolutionary purpose. Prominent alignments and aspects to Lyra are often found in musicians, artists and those involved with art and sciences behind multi-media projects—those with intent to use those art-sciences for healing and the expansion of consciousness. Lyra embodies the wisdom of the application of natural harmonics in light and sound through time in geometric proportion—all working intelligently together.

Lyra is also depicted as the Tortoise Lyre, with the resonant structure being the shell from which rise elegant horns upon which seven strings (of Sheliak) are stretched. Sulaphat is the tortoise shell. Sulaphat embodies the principle of resonance in the harmonics of sacred geometry and associated artsciences. Sulaphat embodies all that is of physical resonance and emotional tone. Here we find the inspiration to re-tune the physical and emotional aspects of our lives. We find support to become fully and harmoniously resonant to our spiritual truth, highest ideals and visions, and to express them into demonstrable material manifestation.

The beautiful starseed Ring Nebula M57, a super nova of Lyra, is the result from which many diversionary rays of extraterrestrial starseed races began their evolutionary journey. The Ring Nebula inspires the re-unification of all incarnational sojourns of the soul, and to reciprocate that amalgamated wisdom through the art-sciences, and through philosophy, spirituality and more evolved social ideals. M57 invites us to remember our unified stellar origins despite our many diverse expressions in form.

The Quadrivium of the Seven Liberal Arts:

• Arithmetic — Number
• Geometry — Number in space
• Music / Harmonics / Tuning Theory — Number in time
• Astronomy / Cosmology — Number in space and time

Deneb Al Okab (Zeta Aquila) marks the Eagle's Tail, composed of Zeta Aquila and Epsilon Aquila. Zeta Aquila is the brighter of the two and is the third brightest star in Aquila, next to Altair, Eye of the Eagle, and Tarazed, Altair's companion. Zeta Aquila shines with the brightness of 39 of our suns and has an amazing rotational speed, 165 times the equatorial speed of our sun—that is a rotational speed of about 16 hours.

SS433, an exotic and dynamic binary star system.

SS433 Visualization by Rob Hynes Binary Software Louisiana State University, USA

Conjoining the tail of the Eagle (Zeta Aquila) is SS433, an exotic and dynamic binary star system similar to Cygnus x-3, but emitting twin-corkscrew shaped jets in wavelengths ranging from the optical to the X-ray. A companion star is feeding the collapsed neutron star's accretion disc (shown in the illustration). A neutron star is a super-dense nucleus of a collapsed (dead) star. A slight 20° misalignment of the planes of the binary orbit and the accretion disk causes the disc and its rapidly evolving jets to precess (wobble) over a 162.5-day period and over a large angle. The precession also causes the jets' expanding helical spray.

SS433’s primary characteristic is that it produces a dynamic and rapidly evolving expression that extends over the entire light spectrum, thus embracing all aspects of life, from the most primal to the soul/spiritual, without hesitancy and without prejudice or discrimination. It also has a consuming aspect to it, consuming life itself.

Both the qualities of rapidly rotating Deneb Al Okab and SS433 are fitting with the Eagle’s totem and guiding tail of the Eagle. The Eagle, a lone bird, has the ability to rapidly remove itself to vast distances and height to gain an embracing perceptual (global) awareness, and then to steer itself with amazing speed and grace to snatch its target.

This is also the location of Pluto’s south node, and it articulates the force behind Pluto's active expression in our lives. Pluto, currently in mid Sag, will reach its south node in 2018, when it crosses from north of to south of the ecliptic plane.

These stars bring perspective to our Venus-Gemini synodic theme, the reason or purpose behind or driving the cooperative ambassador-like pursuits in relationships. Here we find inspiration for the application of the healing art-sciences and multi-media from an all-embracing global perspective. These stars impel us to bring forth a new ideal of awareness of self as the creative force in the world. They inspire us to make choices from and to intentionally create from this higher realm of self that is already full and radiantly expressive to bring about change in our lives, rather than from a place of lack, from what we are not or do not have. Creating from the fullness of higher self, soul level self, is to create that which is for our highest good and the expression of our greatest potential. This level of self already knows what we need for our fulfillment in life.

Pushing Through

The latter part of the Flowering Phase, leading into the Pollinating Phase, requires perseverance to push through, to push open. Consistent application of your energies is a demonstration of your inner commitment to self. You are pushing through past limitations of self into a new level of self-confidence and integrating your greater potential with personal will. The flower bursts open on the Gibbous Moon.

Attraction & Involvement

This phase brings a strong desire to connect and involve with others. The outer and opposite is alluring. It is a time of exploration and involvement with others. Flowers not only blossom to reveal their beauty, but their functional purpose is to provide the pollination required to bear fruit. This interaction brings clarity of purpose and builds into the enthusiastic energy required for fulfiment. Communication and intermixing of energies is highlighted. The purpose is to be of value to each other, stimulating creativity. Share your vision and direction, what you have been working on. The 3 1/2-day Pollinating Phase is a social time, which will culminate on the Full Moon.

The Gibbous Moon
Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

Our Gibbous Moon occurs on January 11-12, a few degrees before Aldebaran in sidereal Taurus. Conjoining stars include Ain, Epsilon Taurus, and the Hyades star asterism; and Epsilon and Menkhib of Perseus.

The Hyades, primarily marked by Theta Taurus, is the second asterism in Taurus after the Pleiades. It forms the V-shape of stars between Aldebaran and Ain. The Hyades are said to be five of the fifteen daughters of Atlas and Aethra, daughter of Oceanus; and named after Hyas, meaning rain, the son of Aethra, who preceded her daughters. The Hyades are thus half sisters of the Pleiades. The Greeks new them as Uades, which some say is from the Latin uein (to rain); referring to their reputation for bringing rain attending their helical rising and setting in latter May and November. Ovid, the Roman poet, writes that the sisters were grief-stricken at the death of their beloved brother, and their tears fall on us as rain.

The Hyades are considered to have a watery and tempestuous nature although they nest within an Earth sign, and are associated with tempests and storms; and thus also of emotional release of grief when morning. Although Taurus is of the fruits of the Earth, and generally has a peaceful nature, it does have areas that are more disruptive in nature, with the Hyades being associated with thunder, lighting and storms; creating upset, sorrow or commotion. They can be associated with civil disruption with afflicted alignments, but with Aldebaran's nearby influence, there is the capacity for strong leadership to emerge from such disruptive or chaotic scenarios. Either way, the disruptive nature of the Hyades can be diversionary or entrapping to those without the vision and stamina Aldebaran offers.

Another articulation of the Hyades is provided by the mythical story of the starseeds journey from the Pleiades, through Hyades to Aldebaran. In this galactic myth, Alcyone of the Pleiades (~5° sidereal Taurus) is administrative seat for a group of starseeds incarnate on Earth who, in order to graduate into the "Office of the Christos or Khristos” (from Krestos to Khristos; i.e., into soul awareness), are responsible for the seeding of the Vision of Aldebaran on Earth. This is to demonstrate responsible aid supporting Earthian souls though a monumental evolutionary transition, helping to establish the awakening of human consciousness to galactic / unified awareness in a regenerated world, and in so doing they do it for themselves as well. The fall of the starseeds from awareness of this mission upon which they were sanctioned to Earth is articulated by the journey through the first half of sidereal Taurus, specifically through the Hyades asterism. The Hyades lie between the Pleiades and Aldebaran, not only in ecliptical longitude, but also in distance (Alcyone is ~450 light-years from Earth, the Hyades ~150 light-years, & Aldebaran ~68 light-years).

As the journey goes, from Alcyone to Aldebaran, Hyades represents entry into the darkened human genetic stream of consciousness, entry into the human reincarnational process. In this process, the starseed emissaries lost memory of their starseed origin and their sanctioned initiatory mission, finding themselves first to be faced with a sobering reawakening process, remembering their true origin and original covenant with their soul families, their purpose for incarnating on Earth. In this stellar mythos, alignments to Hyades can be indicative of those who forgot their greater soul heritage and purpose, who carry issues of having been lured or lost in human involvement, lost in Hell in a sense, resultantly confused about their true identity. In Hyades, one can be extremely slow to change or act, sometimes only when it is too late, or when the door of opportunity literally has passed. Nearby Aldebaran's light is massive and bright, inspiring this re-awakening over time, and impelling these emissaries to eventually step forth and shine.

Ain, Epsilon Taurus, conjoining the Hyades and Aldebaran inspires one to have the vision to see beyond the confusion and commotion common to the Hyades, and the means to slip by or through it.

Our Gibbous Moon brings inspiration to step forth into one's true purpose and soul-level awareness while standing in the midst of chaos and the diversionary conditions of human life. One of the most common things forgotten of Taurus is the need to take action, without it one's vision (Eye of the Bull) does not manifest; and one remains entrapped in the confusion of stormy Hyades. Physical action is essential.

The Sun enters sidereal Capricorn on January 15 (also called the Capsolar Ingress in sidereal astrology).

The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some is a New World for those who realize it is.

Vision & Enthusiasm

The latter part of this phase, building up to the Full Moon, matures our efforts into vision and enthusiasm. It is the intermixing of opposites that creates the magic to bear the fruit of our passions. The day and night just before the Full Moon is the most potent, exhilarating energy—a dynamic social and alchemical time. The Full Moon marks the point of coition in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement, a time of celebration.

Realization of the Theme

The day just after the Full Moon is a time to kick back and relax. This phase begins as if waking from a sleep. It is a time for the realization of the theme to emerge, of what the activities of the first half of the lunar cycle, culminating into the enthusiasm of the Full Moon, are really about. Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.

The Full Moon
Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

The Full Moon occurs just after the Capsolar Ingress, on January 15-16, just across the cusp of sidereal Cancer. The Sun-Moon opposition also creates a Grand Square with Eris in late sidereal Pisces, and Vesta and Ceres on the Virgo-Libra cusp. The Moon conjoins Procyon of Canis Minor; and Alifa al Frakadain (Zeta) Ursa Minor. Also of influence is Pollux of the Twins.

Pollux of Gemini marks the end of sidereal Gemini, and Procyon, south of the ecliptic, lies just across the cusp of sidereal Cancer. The energetics of these two stars work hand in hand. Pollux is an emissary or ambassador, one who links people and groups together. Pollux impels diplomacy and mutual cooperation amongst people and groups and imparts motivation to champion, support or promote others.

The Egyptian X

Prcoyon is sometimes called the faithful hound of Pollux. In classical astrology, Procyon portends wealth, renown and good fortune. More specifically, Procyon impels such success through the allegiance to a greater cause, purpose or faction. This allegiance is in support of the efforts of the Twins, Pollux and Castor, who are liaisons that champion human betterment and mutual cooperation.

As the Babylonian “Kakkab Paldara,” Procyon is “Star of the Crossing”—of the Water Dog. Procyon also impels one to extend their diplomacy to other cultures and countries. Procyon is also one of the five stars creating the “Egyptian X”—with Betelgeuse, Naos Zeta Puppis of the Argo, and Phaet Alpha Columba the Dove; with the central star being Sirius. In relation to Sirius, the Dog Star, of Canis Major, Procyon is the Little Dog Star. The desert Arabs knew them both as Al Ahawat al Suhail—the sisters of Canopus: thus recognizing their association with greater evolutionary matters including extraterrestrial co-participation and support, which is overseen and directed by Canopus, the helmsman of the Argo. Canopus is administrative seat responsible for the evolutionary fulfillment of entire planetary systems.

Conjoining Alifa al Frakadain, a cub of Ursa Minor, imparts somewhat of a peaceful warrior character that inspires a willingness to stand up for the uniqueness and rights of others.

Our Full Moon brings our Sagittarian Pluto lunar theme to its culmination. It inspires mutual cooperation amongst diverse groups of people, to honor the uniqueness of all. It brings attention to international relations and inspires tack and diplomacy in the pursuit of cooperative ventures.

Demonstrable expression and the imparting of our gifts anchors into the structure of our consciousness the self-empowerment gained from this Lunar Cycle.

The Disseminating Moon
Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.

The Disseminating Moon occurs on January 20 conjoining retrograde Pallas in sidereal Leo. The Moon conjoins Mizar and Alcor of Ursa Major; the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 4151 in Canes Venatici; and the minor stars, Chi of Leo; Mu Hydra; Psi and Omi Velorum, on the sail of the Argo.

Pallas Athene

Pallas Athene

Mature Pallas expresses as the artful use of creative intelligence for solution beyond duality’s paradox. Mature Pallas expresses from the balance of the masculine and feminine principles, and from beyond the judgments of one side verses the other. Pallas invites the integration of our past experience in duality—from having been on both sides of the fence at one time or another—and to claim that experience as wisdom. It invites us to use that wisdom as a foundation to express nonjudgmental courageous solution beyond life’s paradoxes created by opposing forces.

Pallas is applier and defender of wisdom and truth; the expression of intellect in craft and inventiveness. Mature Pallas accepts personal responsibility for having co-created our experience; i.e. the resolution of victim consciousness. Pallas has the strategic capacity to link, unify and bring together; and has wonderful perceptual skills for planning and public relations. Pallas often has a prominent placement in the charts or artists. Pallas significantly effects emotional and physical equilibrium.

Pallas issues (an immature Pallas expression) can express as spiteful withdrawal, which ultimately can manifest as self-sabotage due to judgments about use of power or awry creative / sexual energy. It can also express as righteousness, judgment and invalidation of opposite or alternative views, lashing out with a vengeance. Pallas issues can express as an imbalance in the masculine and feminine aspects of self; sexuality issues, dyslexia and perceptual problems. Pallas governs the Liver / Spleen balance (violet / red), which is reflexed to the equilibrium and dizziness centre of the brain.

NGC 4151 is a spiral galaxy with an actively growing supermassive black hole at its center. This composite image of NGC 4151 contains X-rays from Chandra (blue), optical data (yellow), and radio emission (red). The structure has been dubbed "The Eye of Sauron" by astronomers due to its resemblance to the character in "The Lord of the Rings.”

Mizar of the Great Bear, Zeta Ursa Major, is the overseeing and predominant star of this area of the zodiak. Mizar, and its companion Alcor, articulates raw fiery energy that must express one way or another. Mizar must have a creative outlet, but for its proper expression, we must apply it with creative vision. Mizar brings attention to use of our creative energies; creative and destructive tendencies, and the fear to create lest it may result in destruction. Here we learn the nature of such volatile forces. Mizar, with averted alignments is also known for catastrophic fires or massacres. Mizar can however express quite artistically—just as gunpowder can express as beautiful fireworks or devastating explosions. Mizar tends to express in a grand way, in character with showy and dramatic Leo. Mizar imparts a dynamic, action oriented creative artistic expression.

Asterion and the conjoining Seyfert Galaxy NGC 4151, both of the barking hounds, Canes Venatici, conjoin Mizar. Seyfert galaxies are spiral galaxies that have very dense and bright cores (nuclei) that express a broad spectrum of emission lines, which suggests extremely hot gases in violent motion. In general, Seyfert galaxies tend to stimulate dynamic, powerful and directed action.

Zosma, Chort and Denebola, tail of the Lion, are a triangle of stars that form the hind of the Lion. The Moon lies under this triangle. This area of late Leo can be of foul breezes and smoke screens. It is also of those behind the scenes, of political religious figures manipulating the affairs of the world for personal motive while offering salvation from the human struggle. Southern Velorum, the sail of the Argo, is of evolutionary currents that are transcendent to the diversionary spectacle above. These stars create a diverse polarity of energy that set Leo’s “back stage.” This is a windy and fiery area of the zodiak, one that can stimulate dynamic creative expression, but one that can also be filled with diversionary commotion and grand spectacle. Thus discernment from a place in inner emotional and physical clarity is required to attune to the transcendent soul-level currents guiding our lives rather than defining our course based upon the diversionary and dramatic winds swirling about.

Our Disseminating Moon impels highly creative directed expression with clarity and discernment. It inspires the use of our creative intelligence to find solutions beyond "this side verses that side" mentalities. Creative solutions can be dramatic and highly visible, perhaps in areas of art or the performing arts. Discernment is required to see the truth hidden behind any events occurring on the global scene.

Inner Need

This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Essentially a lesser self is what we will be shedding. Acknowledging the needs we feel surfacing on the inner is essential to create the changes in our lives on the outer. This inner recognition provides the challenge to do so. There is impetus to withdraw from the activity of this entire cycle, to emerge from the stage setting that served our intended growth. Remember that others are having their inner needs as well! Demanding others change is not the solution to our well being. This is a good day for quite time. Allowing mutual space and sharing our realizations with mutual respect supports all parties.

Initiate Change

It is now time to plow under the crops so they may become the fertilizer for the next cycle. It is time to let go of any vested interest or attachment to the experience of the Lunar Cycle and to the stage props that served our growth. This is a transformational time, a time for personal change. Step forth from old facades, and free yourself from past ways of participating in life. This is a time of departure, of walking away from that which is no longer nourishing and to prepare the soil of our lives for that which is. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Not making the realized changes keeps ourselves bound in a circle of old patterns of growth; changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.

Last Quarter Moon
Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our “inner need to initiate change” in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle’s last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on January 23-24, on the North Lunar Node in sidereal Libra. The Moon and the North Lunar Node conjoin Syrma of Virgo; Miaplacidus of Argo Navis; Delta Bootes and the Quasar OQ 172 in Bootes; Iota Centauri and the Elliptical Galaxy NGC5253 in Centauri; the Supernova SN 2007 in The Purple Rose of Virgo; and the Southern Pinwheel Spiral Galaxy M83 in Hydra.

The Thousand-Ruby Galaxy M83

Dubbed by ESO as The Thousand-Ruby Galaxy after acquiring this phenomenal image ("shining with the light of billions of stars and the ruby red glow of hydrogen gas") at the La Silla Observatory. Image Credit: ESO PR Photo 25/08 (2 Sept 2008)

The stars in the first half of sidereal Libra are of the arts and sciences regarding proper and harmonious environments, processes, and procedures in our personal lives that ensure the safe birth and healthy incarnate experience of souls on Earth. Environmental support is a key phrase here, this includes the environmental conditions of the Earth, our personal living environments, and a harmonious environment (resonance) in our relations. Thus, art, intimacy and beauty are all of significance in creating a nurturing environmental resonance in our lives.

Boötes, the Virgin's consort and protector, standing over the Virgin, embodies the responsibility to provide a safe environment for the Virgin—for the birth, evolution, and evolutionary fulfillment of souls. In one articulation of the Bootes-Virgin theme, we have a threatening and destructive scenario—the totalitarian powers that be that force the twosome away in a pilgrimage to find a safe and appropriate place for a new birth (the Christian story of the birth of Jesus).

South lies the benevolent Centaur, teacher of the right way to live, protector of, and leader to, the original cardinal virtues (embodied by the Southern Cross), which embodies the original purity of soul's intent and purpose before any incursions taken on throughout soul’s entire incarnational sojourn. Further south lies the keel of Argo Navis—the ship sailing along the galactic equator, which embodies matters related to ensuring a safe incarnational sojourn for the durative soul, that which exists before and after this lifetime. The stars of the Argo are of subtle evolutionary currents and the knowledge about navigation upon those currents and steering our evolutionary direction.

The Purple Rose of Virgo

Conjoining Syrma is the Supernova SN 2007af, a recent and stunning revelation found "under the skirt of the Virgin: in The Purple Rose of Virgo, a barred spiral galaxy (slightly smaller than our Galaxy). The supernova is the bright object seen slightly below and to the right of the galaxy's centre. Image Cerdit: ESO PR Photo 16/07

Miaplacidus of Carina, on the keel of the Argo (entering the ecliptic at about 7° sidereal Libra), is the second most important star of the Argo, after Canopus. "Mia" is of greater universal flowing waters of Source and "Placidus" is of grid-navigational-mapping. Miaplacidus involves the navigational mapping of cosmic evolutionary currents—evolutionary intelligence and how it expresses in time and space. Miaplacidus is of Astronomical-Earthgrid mapping, navigation, inner-dimensional travel, and related art-sciences and environments that support soul’s greater evolutionary journey. Living at or traveling to the right locations at the proper times in our lives is of significance to be in proper (space-time) harmony. The purpose of sacred geometry, naturally tuned architecture, and the art-sciences involving harmonics and resonance are all of significance here—many of the art-sciences that have been obscured, suppressed or lost to humanity—including the integrated knowledge of astronomy and astrology and its application in cartographical mapping on the Earth in space and time.

Syrma, Star of Atlantis, which lies under the skirt of the Virgin and marks the knee of the Virgin, but in sidereal Libra. Syrma embodies issues relating to frozen genetic coding and the resultant crystallized emotional patterning incurred due to devastating or cataclysmic events of the past, especially incurred from the controlling use of resources to obtain power over others. Syrma provides inspiration for personal change and transformation, and articulates our need to unlock our frozen genetic coding and crystallized cellular makeup that keeps us stretched out of the present. Syrma alignments can bring deep-seated emotional patterning, especially suppressed grief and issues related to the use of power, to surface awareness so we may clear it. Syrma also inspires the application of art-sciences that can aid in this process, freeing ourselves from biological conditions and behavioral patterns passed on through generations.

Miaplacidus, Syrma, Delta Bootes and the Quasar OQ 172 of Bootes, the spiral (Pinwheel) galaxy M83, and the Purple Rose and supernova, all amalgamate. They inspire transcendence into our inner-core awareness to unlock the bonds that keep us frozen or stretched in space-time, in a mode of trying to release the past to get to the future, which keeps us looking outside of self (in a light-speed limited mode of perception) to acquire what we do not have in order to attain our fulfillment.

They also inspire our proper attunement in space and time, that is, to place our selves in the proper location at any given time that serves our greater well being, personal healing and spiritual awakening. This is another aspect of the Centuarian teachings about claiming our self-mastery in the world and attaining our evolutionary fulfillment.

Our Last Quarter Moon may arouse inner needs to change deep-seated patterns. It may inspire the need to go to or move to other locations that help serve this purpose. It may bring attention to our biological resonance and to the resonance of our environments, or need to make changes to create a new more harmonious resonance. It may inspire involvements that serve to change antiquated patterns of the past.

Coalescence into Essence

The latter part of this phase results in coalescing all that was experienced in the cycle into its essence, into its seed form. It is a reflective time looking back over the past, of extracting and assembling what was learned from the cycle, claiming its true wealth and wisdom. This is a great time to explore what we learned in the context of the new moon theme. It is this seed essence which is of true value to our greater growth. This seed will sprout in the next Lunar Cycle of growth and unfoldment, and morph into the next Lunar Cycle's theme.

Focus to the Future

Our focus now turns toward the future. We now turn away from looking back over the past cycle completely and begin to look ahead, preparing for and anticipating the future cycle to come, to a new step to emerge in our Lunar Path of Fulfillment. The seed is planted. It is time to let it germinate. Completing any lose ends is appropriate, or to move into a new position for the next cycle to unfold. Here we make the field of all possibilities smooth and clear, ready for the new sprouting to occur.

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Balsamic Moon occurs on January 27 conjoining Ixion and Centaur Pholus in late sidereal Scorpio. Conjoining stars include Ras Alhague and Theta of Ophiuchus; Lesath of Scorpio; Alpha, Beta and Gamma Ara; and the Terzan 2 Globular Cluster.

The Centaur Pholus

The Centaurs are somewhat rogue and radical in nature, believed to have entered into the realm of our outer solar system from the outside. Since the Centaurs do not have their own strong orbital resonance, they generally have unstable orbits and are greatly influenced by the orbital resonances of the larger planets, and thus synchronize with the orbits of the larger planets, acting as unique escorts from one planetary realm to another.

Just as Chiron embraces the orbits of Saturn and Uranus and is consider a key or bridge between the two planets due to their harmonic orbital resonances, Pholus’ aphelion also synchronizes with Saturn’s orbit, but it extends beyond the orbit of Uranus, crosses that of Neptune, and harmonically resonates with Orcus’ orbit—Pluto’s compliment. Pholus thus links the realms of Saturn and Orcus while passing through Uranus and Neptune.

Pholus helps to lead us from the conforming bounds and limitations of our past, to make the radical changes in our lives, to pierce the veils obscuring our more transcendent soul purpose, and to awaken to that purpose and live it. Conversely, Pholus may also help us to ground and concretize that purpose in the world. Pholus seems to help us refine our sense of responsibility to living true to soul’s oath.

Pholus can manifest as unusual ability or an unexpected experience that can catalyze profound change. Pholus often works in a mysterious or shrouded way, and often manifests in a whirlwind of confusion as some type of catalyzing agent, sometimes medicinal, that makes possible a transition or passage that otherwise would not occur. Pholus can trigger an avalanche of events that leads to a transformation of a long standing condition that should have already been addressed, even one that transcends generations or lifetimes. More about the Centaurs.

Ixion was discovered in May of 2001. As a newly discovered planet, Ixion’s astrological role is exploratory. Based upon Ixion’s myth (with minimal astrological verification), Ixion seems to related to conflict amongst leaders; more specifically about those in authoritarian positions being brought to justice for deeds involving the suppression and manipulation of people, especially women, as well as the tyrannical destruction of people for one’s own end. Ixion may also be prominent in malicious and deceptive power-plays between authoritarian figureheads, drawn out in long karmic-based scenarios.

Ixion may include issues of trust and betrayal, where miss-deeds are forgiven, but which occur again, perhaps in vicious cycle, much like a woman who forgives an abusive husband only to be abused again the following day. It may also express as lust and desire for wealth and power.

Ixion in the natal astrological chart can indicate were we must own up for our deeds. It can indicate where we must confront and resolve the internal conflict we feel between our less-than ideal actions and what we know we should ideally do. More about Ixion.

Ras Alhague, Alpha Ophiuchus, the principal lucida of Ophiuchus, is the head of the Serpent Holder. This star in the northern heavens embodies the essence of the constellation. Ras Alhague expresses the knowledge and experientially-gained wisdom of one who has attained illumination and demonstrably lives from that maturity and awareness. Ras Alhague is also the embodiment of physical health and vitality—one who knows how to heal thyself.

Ras Alhague lies over and conjoins the stars forming the right leg and foot of Ophiuchus. Ophiuchus stands with his right foot (Theta Ophiuchus) over the sting of the Scorpion, Lesath, which marks the end of sidereal Scorpio. Ras Alhague, Theta Ophiuchus and Lesath all conjoin. Together, these stars articulate the capacity to transmute life’s initiatory experiences into true personal power and wisdom.

The Cat's Paw Emission Nebula

This image of the Cat's Paw Emission Nebula, a star-forming region in the tail of the Scorpion, was taken in 2007 using the Mosaic-2 imager on the Blanco 4-meter telescope at Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory. The colors of the nebula are reddened by intervening dust in the plane of the Milky Way galaxy. The image was taken as part of a continuing campaign of public-release images using both NONA 4-meter telescopes.

Further south is Ara, Altar of the Centaur. The mythical image here is of the Centaur placing Lupus the beast with conscious deliberation upon the Centaur's sacrificial altar. Here we impelled to place, with conscious deliberation, any long standing grief, guilt, anger, pain, and any other emotion (especially self-judgment related) upon the altar to be consumed in the Centaur's Pyre for our transmutation. North from the Sting of the Scorpion, Lesath, drips the transmuting elixir (the often harsh lessons of life), upon the Altar. This act is essential to experience the actual neurological transmutation made possible that leads to illumination. If we are not ready to surrender and relinquish our crystalized emotional patterns, we are held back or sidetracked, and continue to experience upsets, diversions and even traumatic and catastrophic events in our lives because we are not truly ready to step into a greater level of self-realization.

Terzan 2 in Scorpio lies along a line drawn between Theta Ophiuchus and Lesath It lies just below the star d-Ophiuchus and his right foot. Terzan 2 is one of several Globular Clusters that express in the infrared area of the light spectrum, discovered by French astronomer Agop Terzan and published in 1968. Terzan 2 embodies an X–Ray Burster (XBR) at its center. Although there are hundreds of globulars (a spherical grouping of stars surrounding a dense galactic center), only a few exhibit a Burster quality. The Burster itself is a neutron binary star system that emits persistent but irregular blasts of high-energy x-rays. Astrologically, globular clusters exhibit a compacted inner core sense of strength based in self-formualted beliefs. Burster type globulars can stimulate unexpected flashes of illumination, even brilliant revelations that can propel us on entirely new creative journeys or courses in our lives. It is up to us to draw upon the inner strength the globular offers and have the conviction to act upon the inspiration, even as the initial flash subsides. Terzan 2 in Scorpio may produce tremendous bursts of passion, sensual rapture, or raw power that motivate us to access and live a path or greater truth in self-mastery that lies beyond the natural forces assumed to be governing our lives. Terzan 2 can ignite the flame at the base chakra that allows the transmutation of crystallize cellular patterns if we are willing to surrender lower order self for a refined vibrational resonance and to live in the greater truth awaiting us.

Coalescing our Lunar Cycle, the Balsamic Moon impels us to stand empowered in the initiatory forces of life, to allow a transmutation that becomes possible by unconditionally embracing / feeling all emotion (e-motion is the crystallized resistance to the motion of experience). This is to surrender the cellular patterns that hold us at a lesser vibrational resonance and is that which transmutes our external experiences into true inner power. This allows us to demonstrably participate at a more refined or higher-order resonance, and to subsequently step forth into a higher office awaiting us. This transmutational process is governed by the limbic part of the brain, the non-thinking part of the brain that governs primal instinct, feeling, and emotion. The key here is not to analyze our emotions, which results in judgment and blame, but to simply feel all emotion with total unconditional acceptance.

Our next new Moon occurs on January 30, 2014 in mid-sidereal Capricorn.
More to come then.

The Lunar Calendar

To learn how one lunar phase shifts and changes into the next, and to learn how to live in attunement to the lunar cycles, in the experiential empowerment doing so offers, download the Lunar Planner Introduction and each monthly Lunar Calendar, and use them daily (PDF file links below)—its all a gift.

We need not live in endless struggle, overwhelmed by the surface turbulence of our growth and awakening process. We can establish an inner peace instead, with life becoming a graceful dance when we attune ourselves to the natural spiral of growth that is guiding our lives. Living in attunement to the natural Lunar Cycles is an effective and empowering way to do this. Living in attunement to the natural astronomical cycles of life is living in faith and trust in the Divine Creative Intelligence expressing throughout our lives.

The Lunar Planner is an experiential tool teaching us how to live in attunement to the natural lunar cycles. Astronomical Sidereal Astrology and Star Lore reveal each lunar month's theme, and the planetary themes unfolding throughout the year. Each lunar month's theme weaves a continuing story line of the patterns of growth unfolding in our lives.
