Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are—our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

About Synodic Cycles

Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution as a collective.

Surrender & Play

The end of this phase is also the end of the entire Lunar Cycle. It leads into the next New Moon. The day before the New Moon is a time to surrender in order to allow the next Lunar Theme to sprout in its purity. Let go of all fears, worries, and self-judgment. Become empty. This is a great time to just play and have fun.

Beginning the Sprouting Phase of the Lunar Cycle
Expressing a New Theme

A new theme emerges. A new idea, a new concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, a spontanious message, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen. A simple word or phrase may pop into your mind during this quite time describing the new lunar theme in a way that is unique to you, or perhaps a simple feeling or knowing will come over you. The ability to listen, honor and trust the inner is all that is required at this time. The ideal time to attune to your New Moon theme is exactly as the New Moon occurs, or at sunrise after the New Moon if the New Moon occurred during the night.

The New Moon

This August 2, 2016 New Moon lies amongst the stars of the Egyptian Scarabaeus (our modern Crab), between Acubens and Asellus Aus of Cancer. It nests over the head of Hydra. North are Alpha Lyncis and Gianfar of Draco. South is Tureis on the Puppis of Argo Navis.

Cancer, commonly the crab today, is also the Egyptian Scarabaeus, an image that articulates the theme of humanity's emergence from suppression, darkness, dogma, and delusion and its reawakening back to light. The Scarab is an appropriate mythical figure here because the beetle emerges from its snuggle in its own dung, where it matures. This theme also applies to our individual emergence from the family nest of the collective consciousness that we acquiesce to and uphold. The Scarab is a symbol of regeneration, transformation and re-birth, of being self-created, or self-made, to rise from itself—hence humanity's association with the beetle’s emergence. Cancer, or the Scarab, imparts a nurturing, protective and cultivating quality, ultimately to support this emergence. This lunar cycle impels us to hold onto that which is of value and is truly nurturing but it also impels us to relinquish crustaceans or calcifications in consciousness that limit our emergence into light and illumination.

New Moon Star Chart

Acubens, Alpha Cancer lies next to King Cobra Star Cluster M67, composed of about 500 stars, one of most ancient star clusters known (~3 to 5 billion years). Acubens and M67 expresses as a long established heritage, lineage, inheritance, birthright, bloodline or something passed down through generations. Acubens impels a need to protect, collect and nurture, also to hide and shelter, the essence of the Crab. Acubens can also articulate our entrapment in dogma and in contract passed down though lineage. This dogma is upheld by our personal belief structures—the ideas we hold about our lives and the experiences we have in our lives—often inherited. Acubens can impel a tenacious and stubborn resistance to release the patterns we hold that keep us entrapped in limiting life scenarios.

Asellus Aus. and Bor., the southern and northern stars that create the ass of the Crab, also called the two donkeys (associated with nearby Praesepe, the beehive star cluster, also called the manger), can indicate antiquated patterns, personal and collective dogmatic belief structures, and sticky modalities of being that perpetuate stasis. Classically they are considered to be unfortunate stars with a somewhat stubborn (I would say sticky) nature. They can stimulate a desire to nourish and fortify, but also to accumulate to such a degree that one can get self-consumed.

Alignments with this part of Cancer can bring up our fears of letting go—fears bound in our belief patterns and those of collective consciousness. They can bring our attention to the possibility of being lost in our own mental obscurations—in the reasons "why not" to go forward, why not to change—in the frenetic buzz of collective mass consciousness—in the dogmas of life, whether personal or collective. The opportunity here is to step out of our limiting environments and structures of consciousness and to trust that which has been gestating and to find new places fitting to our emerging new awareness.

The head of Hydra lies immediately south of Acubens. Hydra's head articulates a multifarious undermining source of destruction (every time Hercules took off one the Hydra's heads, it immediately grew another). The conjunction of Acubens with the stars forming Hydra's head reveals that the repetitive undermining experiences in our lives are manifest from our own tenacious belief structures, and they are not easily eradicated, much like pealing the layers of an onion to get to its core.

Planets found orbiting Sun-like star in M67

Astronomers have used ESO's HARPS planet hunter in Chile, along with other telescopes around the world, to discover three planets orbiting stars in the cluster Messier 67. Although more than one thousand planets outside the Solar System are now confirmed, only a handful have been found in star clusters. Remarkably one of these new exoplanets is orbiting a star that is a rare solar twin — a star that is almost identical to the Sun in all respects. Illustration and Caption Credit: ESO.

Associated Quasar 3C206 of Hydra, one of the brightest & closest quasars, suggests that although our dogmatic beliefs can take rather strange and unexplainable forms, they are not outside the realm of our own creation. They are however laser-like in their power; and when overcoming the symptom of one underlying pattern, that pattern can emerge again merely in another symptomatic form. The underlying patterns must be addressed not just their symptoms. Quasar 3C206 reminds us to not be naïve to the powerful momentum of our beliefs and the undermining behavioral patterns they can create. This quasar tells us to not turn our backs on that momentum, to know it may take more than one attempt to overcome our dogma's tenacity.

Tureis (Rho) of Puppis, in Argo Navis, impels us to lift our selves to a higher vantage point and to use our visual sense to see the undermining currents and patterns in our lives—and to breathe when they do emerge. Tureis also impels the need to apply that which we may have inherited in a way that serves our greater evolutionary freedom and true nourishment, to apply it toward a greater vision, articulated by overseeing Dubhe of the Great Bear.

Alpha Lyncis resides at this sidereal longitude. The outstretched Lynx lies just north of sidereal Cancer. The Lynx, or mountain cat, is known for its extraordinarily effortless ability to quietly move through the physical world. Alpha Lyncis is of intuition and of secrets shared or revealed. Symbolic of the ability to see the hidden mystery and secrets of life, our stellar Lynx represents the ability to see the spirit moving or expressing through matter. To have this perceptive and sensitive ability is to see where doorways become accessible in what otherwise may seem to be just a repetitive and mundane world.

In the far northern heavens is Gianfar, Lambda Draco, classically "the poisoned place. Gianfar is associated with primordial origins of the Dragon is—here the tail. Curiously one might find alignments here related to poisons of the heart, especially for those fighting for a greater vision. Ginafar also conjoins the Quasar 1133+704 in Draco. The message here is to be aware of relentless primordial patterns or energetics that can destroy through endless battering of one’s courage, optimism and strength in attempts to overcome, through sheer exhaustion.

This New Moon and lunar cycle impels us to collect and hold that which is of value and truly nurturing but also to relinquish that which limits our emergence into light and illumination. It challenges us to do all we can to achieve a greater vision for the evolutionary freedom and fulfillment that we seek—freedom from the dogmas, both collective and personal, that keep us entrapped in our patterns of the past and in an old world paradigm. In essence, we must relinquish our antiquated beliefs that things can't be different, beliefs held onto due to our own bitterness (poisoned heart), in order to overcome the multifarious forces that keep us from emerging into a greater light of being. On the global scene, this can stimulate action toward governments by the people to evolve a new vision that is truly nurturing to the people and that supports their greater freedom and wellbeing rather than tenaciously adhering to methods of government that serve special interests and clandestine plans to control and manipulate the masses.

Venus, Orcus and Mercury

The Moon triggers the Venus-Orcus-Mercury conjunction early on in the lunar cycle, on August 3 and 4, in Leo and conjoining the stars of the Sextant, impelling us to get heart and mind attuned to our transcendent soul purpose in life, and to reassess our bearings and adjust our tack to navigate our course in life amongst rapidly changing evolutionary currents.

Orcus was discovered on Feb 19, 2004. Although Orcus is a bit smaller than Pluto, Orcus has a nearly identical orbital size, orbital period (year), and orbital inclination. However, Orcus’ orbital plane’s orientation in our solar system is tilted in the opposite direction from Pluto’s. For this reason, I tend to think of Orcus as Pluto’s compliment. Just as Pluto has Charon as its primary moon, so too does Orcus have a moon, Vanth, discovered on Nov 13, 2005. Just as Pluto and Charon are considered a dual planetary system, so too is Orcus and Vanth.

Based on Orcus’ orbital parameters, Orcus seems to address how we are applying our personal will for the greater well being of all humanity; how we are contributing to human society. Orcus motivates the use of our day-to-day lives, our daily activity for our souls’ greater purpose on Earth. Orcus seems to express a quiet profundity, almost unnoticed as it serves us to get in touch with our deeper soul essence and purpose—the oaths of our souls, our soul-level agreements, what we are really doing here on Earth—yet at the same time imparting a tremendous strength and endurance to live true to that oath. More about Orcus.

Mars, Saturn, Antares and Netpune

The Saturn-Neptune square, which marks the several-month transition into the last quarter of the 36.4-year Saturn-Neptune cycle (continuing through September), is especially highlighted throughout this lunar cycle as well as the next. In this lunar cycle, we approach the second of three geocentric squares as Mars makes passage over the Head of the Scorpion to conjoin with Saturn and Antares, the Heart of the Scorpion, which lies under the auspices of Ophiuchus holding the Serpent reaching for the Northern Crown, a mythical image that articulates attaining freedom from the reincarnational entrapment into the chelae of the Scorpion. This also occurs as Saturn stations to complete its retrograde. The Saturn-Neptune square creates a T-square with Lunar Nodes, as Neptune approaches the South Lunar Node creating an intense stimulus to the Mars-Saturn-Antares conjunction, occurring on the Last Quarter Moon (August 24-25) as well as bringing this energetic to its climax.

Mars, Saturn, Antares and Neptune

Our transition into the last quarter of the 36.4-year Saturn-Neptune cycle impels us to relinquish antiquated ideologies and the solidifications, constructs and behavioral patterns within self and in society we had built around those ideologies, those which we may have come to identify ourselves with, but that have now served their purpose and limit the manifestation of not only our greater dreams and visions, but limit awakening as illumined self-aware and self-empowered souls beyond the veils of illusion we have acquiesced to. Saturn-Antares teaches us about the limits we have placed upon our own power, and here it tells us the power is within to change our own self imposed limits. As Mars moves to join Saturn, Saturn wants to control, to fix or put a hex on Mars, which is our creative force. For those less willing to relinquish false illusory ideals and to embrace the power within self rather than giving that power away, the Mars-Saturn-Antares T-square with Neptune and Lunar Nodes can incite extreme behavior to fight and control, both by authoritarian factions usurping the life force of the unawakened, as well as by those taking a revolutionary stand against authoritarian rule, as exemplified by the recent and continuing violent and unfortunate world events such as the horrifics occurring in Ankara and those in neighboring middle east countries, to name just a couple, and the forcible displacement of more than 60 million people a year world wide, which is one out of every 122 people on Earth without refuge, with 24 people being displaced every minute (according to UNHCR).

The Mars bio-harmonic audio meditation

For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, the August lunar cycle, through August 24, is an ideal time to work with the Saturn, Mars and Neptune audio meditations (in that order), and continuing with Saturn and Neptune through September 10. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.

Despite the devastating dramatics occurring in the world, there are millions of progressive culturally creative people in the world making change in their own lives and in the world, those who are breaking trail into a new and better world paradigm. The few years ahead impel tremendous evolutionary change for those who embrace it. The Saturn-Neptune square and associated planetary cycle transitions occurring in the immediate years ahead are presented in the article: Sociopolitical & Personal Explorations 2016-2020. The Mars-Saturn-Antares conjunction is presented in the article: Mars Retrograde, its Completion, the New Mars 780-day Synodic Cycle, the New Saturn Cycle, the New Mars-Saturn 2-year cycle, and Mars and Saturn in Ophiuchus conjoining Antares, Heart of the Scorpion. Releasing Restricting Patterns

Just prior to the first Crescent Moon, we can realize the opportunity for growth that the Lunar Cycle has to offer. What surfaces now is: How I would have done this in the past, the old or established ways, based on past experience. Here we have the opportunity to let go of any limiting or restricting thought patterns, much like sluffing off the protective sheath of a seed now beginning to sprout, as that sheath would only limit the unfoldment of the new theme and our own growth. The Crescent Moon marks the time when the theme would like to grow into a more expansive form. By consciously honoring, accepting in love, and letting go of our old concepts, we allow ourselves to move forth into the expansive growing phase of the Lunar Cycle.

Beginning the Growing Phase of the Lunar Cycle
Expanding upon the Theme

This is a time when the currently held vision begins to expand into a greater form. New possibilities of unfoldment would like to grow—possibilities not realized before. This 3 1/2 day Growing Phase is a time of engaging our creativity and integrating it with the original theme, identifying its unique and full potential. It is a time of allowing a realistic and achievable plan of action to evolve, a time of inspiration, and a time to have faith in ours creative process.

The Crescent Moon
Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativity with the original lunar theme.

The Crescent Moon occurs on August 6 in early Virgo and conjoining the Dwarf Planet Makemake.

Makemake (pronounced MAH-keh MAH-keh - “e” is pronounced “ay” in Polynesian) is the Polynesian name for the creator god of humanity in the mythology of the South Pacific island of Rapa Nui (Easter Island). Makemake was recently discovered on March 31, 2005. Based upon an exploration of Makemake’s orbital parameters and its recent role during the 2008-2011 economic turn, Makemake appears to bring attention to leadership issues regarding the administration of resources; and in areas involving economics, ecology and human survival. Makemake may also impel strategic planning and enterprising action to create environmental conditions that ensure a healthy, prosperous and abundant life for groups or for the people in general. Makemake may also act to sort out those who are truly worthy of being in a leadership role from those who are not.

Makemake's chart placement "may" have to do with how and where we respond to achievement and failure, perhaps when there is no in-between, resulting in either abundance and prosperity or utter devastation, It may be related to ecological balance, that is, living in harmony with nature or destroying what we do not understand is essential to life. Whatever we put at risk for achievement may be life promoting and sustaining, but if lost, can be life threatening and destroying. More about Makemake.

M100 Spiral Galaxy in the Virgo Cluster

M100 Spiral Galaxy in the Virgo Cluster
Image Credit: Hubble, NASA and STScI - The Virgo Cluster has about 2000 member galaxies, in which our Local Supercluster (also called Virgo or Coma-Virgo Supercluster) resides.

The North Galactic Pole (NGP) is the northern point of the polar axis around which our entire galaxy spins. The North Galactic Pole lies ~30° north of the ecliptic nesting between Gamma and Beta of Coma Berenices. The NGP defines a principle geometric relationship between our ecliptic plane and our galaxy. The ecliptical longitude of the NGP is always square to the Galactic Equatorial Nodes (Gate of God and Gate of Man) of Earth's Precessional Cross. This is also the current ecliptical location of the anti-Vernal Point of the precessional cross. Astrologically, the North Galactic Pole brings confidence, stability, and guidance for the greater evolutionary fulfillment for all souls. It impels us to create an inner alignment with and to live in integrity toward this purpose.

Although somewhat of a minor star, Markeb, on the sail of the Argo, is of applied knowledge and intellect in navigational matters regarding the evolution of the soul collective. The stars on the sail of the Argo are of refined subtle energies or currents at work that function at the level of the soul's greater evolutionary journey—those transcendent to the dramatics of the external terrestrial world. These are the currents those breaking trail often attune to. Markeb is also the South Pole Star of Mars (foundation of dynamic creative action regarding survival issues).

M99 Spiral Galaxy in Coma Berenices

This gorgeous color CCD image shows M99, a type Sc spiral galaxy in the constellation Coma Berenices, and a prominent member of the Virgo Cluster of Galaxies. Its face-on orientation fully reveals its spiral arms, and this picture has been `flattened' (in brightness) to show arm structure both near the nucleus and into the outer regions of the galaxy (most representations either saturate the center or do not go deep enough to see the edges). This picture was taken in February 1996 at the 0.9-m telescope of Kitt Peak National Observatory.

Crater lies south of the Virgin’s head on back of Hydra. Its stars conjoin those of northern Coma, the crown of the Virgin. Crater is the receiver or receptacle (sometimes referred to as the Cup of Salvation). Crater impels us to transcend the busyness and diversions of life and to listen, and to become receptacles of our greater soul wisdom and guidance.

Crater combined with nearby Corvus was Julius Schiller's "Ark of the Covenant," no doubt with religious overtones. The Ark can also be considered a technological transceiver for extraterrestrial communication, or a measure of arc in precessional (God's) time, it also has to do with our personal attunement. Our spinal columns are vertically arrayed antenna systems, the most sensitive of all, which receives gravitational waves encoded with cosmic intelligence that the Earth receives and re-expresses from Earth's core outward. These waves of guidance culminate in our cranial structures where they are then refocused to our pineal glands, neuro-endocrine transducers that translates this information into that which the pituitary, the master control center of the brain, can use. Being a clear, open and grounded vessel is required for perception of these subtle energies. Following them is yet more important.

Expanding upon our lunar theme, our Makemake Crescent Moon impels us to attune to embracing evolutionary and ecological matters. It invites us to consider what we are willing to put at risk to achieve what we pursue. It brings attention to the administration of our resources, those personal and those global, and issues of survival—perhaps inspiring audacious action. It impels us to shift our attention from the antics of political-religious figureheads and their grand diversionary dramatics occurring on the global stage to more spiritual matters, and to the preparation and purity of self for our greatest wellbeing and highest evolutionary attainment. It brings attention to hard work, health matters, and continuity in development and progress and in communication and logistics required for new beginnings.

Venus-Jupiter & Mars and Pluto

Venus and Jupiter initiate their new 389-day synodic cycle, and Mars and Pluto initiate their new 2.3-year synodic cycle, on August 9, just before the First Quarter Moon.

The Venus-Jupiter synod occurs on the anti-vernal point conjoining the North Galactic Pole (NGP), just a couple of degrees before ecliptical longitude of Makemake. (Venus and Makemake initiate a new synodic cycle just a day later. Jupiter and Makemake initiate a new 12.3-year cycle on September 9, in the following lunar cycle, continuing through Dec 25, 2028.)

Venus-Jupiter synods and conjunctions are one of the most harmonious, impelling peace, generosity, the expansion and mobilization of our values, and social involvement. Venus and Jupiter geocentrically conjoin (along with Mercury) on August 27, just before the Balsamic Moon.

The Pluto-Mars synod occurs in Sagittarius conjoining Arkab, Alrami and Albaldah of Sag and lying under the auspices of Lyra. Pluto's passage amongst these stars was presented in the previous Lunar Planner: The July 6, 2016 Pluto Synod.

Pluto's conjunction with Arkab, Alrami and Albaldah reveals the core truth in one's own consciousness by destructing self-originating illusions, thus allowing one to establish a new zen stance and level of vision required to manifest one's deeper soul aspirations. Pluto's placement amongst these stellar energetics impels us to bring forth a new ideal of awareness of self as the creative force in the world, recognizing power is something within to realize and express in the world. Pluto relentlessly strips away behavioral patterns that keep us from living true to that which we are and have come here on Earth to be. It impels us to intentionally act from this higher realm of self to manifest soul-awareness in our lives and a unified consciousness in the world. Pluto's cycles occurring in this stellar energetic support all types of healing work that facilitate self-empowerment, especially though multi-media and associated art-technologies.

Mars and Pluto can express as a self-empowered shaman or spiritual warrior, or as aggressive rage seeking to control and mistaking power as something outside of self to acquire through dominance. This is an energetic that can either support the transformation of self or the destruction of self. The stellar energetics active here support self-transformation and the manifestation of the spiritual warrior, but this is a function of soul-level awareness and emotional maturity.

External Stimulus

Just before first-quarter moon, we draw an external stimulus to ourselves. This is some event outside of self occurring in our lives or in the world that impels a challenge to act on the creative ideas we have been evolving. The external stimulus provides the impetus to move forth from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. This is a time when any fears or doubts hidden within may surface to be embraced. To move forward through the I can’ts and the reasons why not is to move through our own limitations into a new level of self-empowerment. Not stepping into action results in opportunity lost and no growth. Many people drop the ball at this point in the lunar cycle. Don't be one.

Initiate Action

Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about. The inspiration is now gone, it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Remember, the flower that is about to burst forth from the bud is not yet visible. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. The creative tension brought forth by the external stimulus now shifts into opportunity and unfoldment. This is a time for practical application of your talents. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. What you are putting together now is the groundwork for the manifestation of the theme. Simply, this phase is a time to work.

First Quarter Moon
Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on August 10 in late sidereal Libra conjoining Zubeneschamali of Libra, Delta Serpens and the stars forming the neck of the Serpent, and Epsion of Corona Borealis.

First Quarter Moon Sidereal Astrology Chart

First Quarter Moon - Sidereal Fagan-Bradley

Although the constellation of Virgo begins in early sidereal Virgo, it extends into the first half of the sidereal sign of Libra. The Virgin lies supine with her head at the beginning of Virgo. Spica, Alpha Virgo, which marks the cusp of Virgo-Libra, lies exactly on the ecliptic plane and marks the base chakra (vesica pisces) of the Virgin. The Virgin's legs extend well into Libra, with her feet marking the center of the sign. This (modern) version of constellation of Virgo embraces ~46° of the zodiak—the longest of the zodiacal constellations.

The two primary stars of Libra, Zubenelgenubi (Alpha) and Zubeneschamali (Beta), lie just past the feet of the Virgin, respectively at about 20° and 24° sidereal Libra. However, in our older mythical image the chelae of Scorpion extend from the east, from the head of the Scorpion in early sidereal Scorpio, back into sidereal Libra, with Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali marking the open claws of the Scorpion reaching toward the Virgin's feet. Zubenelgenubi is the southern claw (residing on the ecliptic) and Zubeneschamali is the northern claw, (residing a bit north of the ecliptic), and that is what their names mean.

Virgo Libra and Scorpio Star Map

The over all image here is of the Virgin giving birth into the Chelae of the Scorpion, an image that articulates the reincarnational birthing of the soul into a process of soul growth gained through the balance of human experience while in the forces of duality. This mythical articulation was destroyed in recent (Chaldaean / Roman) times: The Scorpion's Chelae and the Virgin's legs were severed from our stellar mythos, and so too its profound significance. This is why our modern image of Libra is considered to be the scales of justice—implying the need to experience both sides (a balance) of human experience in order to gain self-mastery as an incarnating soul. It does not imply the guilt trip laden idea of paying for misdeeds deemed by a mediating and governing church-state that pretends to stand between an incarnate soul and God—a ploy used by the antiquated church-state puppet-masters to control and manipulate the masses. Nor does it refer to paying for past deeds done in a prior incarnation. Here, in the reincarnational clutches of the Scorpion, the incarnating soul learns self-responsibility and self-mastery, to claim the true freedom that the scales of Libra stand for, by choice, by choosing to move from the patterns and scenarios of the past and to participate in a new way, to step into a new way of being, upon a new path of experience, in essence to complete one's destiny or incarnational purpose of soul growth.

Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali are the karmic and dharmic seats for humanity, the former about our past experience and patterns of growth, and the latter about our future path of experience and growth, that which we have yet to do, our capacity, or duty in a sense, to do it differently, to grow and change.

Alignments with Zubenelgenubi, the southern claw, impart a responsibility to address or complete any entrapping situations or unfinished business, or simply entrapping patterns and scenarios in this life. Zubenelgenubi also marks Saturn's exalted location in the ecliptic; and Pluto's perihelion, also giving us a clue to Saturn and Pluto's relationship. Saturn is often called the lord of karmic retribution. Amongst several things, Saturn demands we demonstrably face our fears, grow and mature.

Alignments with Zubeneschamali, the northern claw, impart a sense of responsibility to step forward from our past patterns of growth and life scenarios into new experience, into our future destiny, by taking the responsibility to choose new experience, a new way of participating in life. It is through this balance of experience that we free ourselves from our past, or better to say, that fulfills our past.

Wood Carving of Ophiuchus by Johannes Kepler

Hence, as the scales of Libra, we can see how the two energetics work in balance for the growth of the soul. We must pursue new experience while completing or integrating our past experience. If we do not choose new experience we stay wallowing in our past patterns. If we remain in denial of our past experience and avoid accepting responsibility for it, our past patterns pull on us relentlessly, making it quite difficult to experience the lives we truly seek. Either way, we stay entrapped in the Scorpion's clutches. Thus, the "art of (Libra) living," living in balance, takes on an expounded meaning.

Further articulating this theme is the neck and head of the serpent, held in the hand of Ophiuchus, reaching for the Northern Crown, which lies north of the Scorpion's chelae and over the feet of the Virgin; and the stars of the Centaur, teacher of self-mastery in the physical world, which lie south of the chelae. The Centaur teaches the right way to live to attain our evolutionary freedom. The Centaur stands over and protects the Southern Cross, which embodies the pure unadulterated essence of our soul purpose in the world—the original cardinality of the soul, also the four cardinal virtues, seeming lost to most of humanity.

Ophiuchus, standing upon the Scorpion, is demonstrable example of one who has achieved this equilibrium, this evolutionary freedom. He, holding the serpent reaching (or pointing) to the Northern Crown, indicates the ideal, the goal to ultimately free self from entrapment in the clutches of the Scorpion, which is learned in the balance, by stepping from the past (karmic) patterns into our (dharmic) future—in full demonstrable mastery over the forces governing life and death. The Northern Crown articulates the achievement of this freedom or fulfillment.

Predating our current rendering of a supine Virgin, the Virgin was shown standing, only occupying sidereal Virgo, not Libra as well, with Spica being an ear or sheaf of wheat held in her right hand. In Egypt, this was Isis (a Greek derivation of the Egyptian hieroglyphs), also with a sheaf of wheat, and sometimes holding the infant Horus, which later became the image of the Christian Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus. Isis embodied the principles of a Virgin (a pure vessel) and that of a Mother (to give birth), not a Virgin-Mother. Isis embodied the capacity to birth a soul in its full potential, a total or soul-infused awakened being, and to care for and ensure souls’ expression into their highest potential. Isis / Virgo embodies the exalted feminine principle, and all facets of this principle including the unconditional caring for all life, including the animal kingdom and the Earth (ecology, agriculture, etc).

Ma'at from the Egyptian Book of the Dead

A section of the Egyptian Book of the Dead written on papyrus showing the Weighing of the Heart in the Duat using the feather of Ma'at as the measure in balance.

Libra was also illustrated as another personification, known as the Balance Holder; also an upright figure holding the scales of Libra. In Egyptian myth, this was Ma'at, who would weigh the human heart / soul at the time of death, with the soul in one scale and an ostrich feather (feather of Truth) in the other. If the heart / soul was heavier than the feather, the soul would need to reincarnate—needing to release its excess weight, or karma—the need to balance its incarnational experience.

The Egyptian Ma'at, although rendered as a woman with an ostrich feather in her hair, was not a deity passing judgment (as some scholars interpret this rendering), but a universal force expressing as balance and order, a natural justice based upon the law of basic equilibrium inherent to the universe. This natural force or principle, later got personified, as was common during the translation of hieroglyphics by Greco-Roman scholars, from which externalized religion was formulated, by those who did not understand that Egyptian imagery was a picture language conveying concepts and ideas, not beings that were worshiped or feared. Ma'at embodies the principle that the relationship between constituent parts must function in balance and as a unified whole.

In Greek myth, Ma'at transposes into the seer Themis, goddess of Mount Olympus, holding the scales in one hand and double-edged sword in the other. Themis was of divine order and law—often called upon to evoked social order, proper procedure and custom. Thesis was shown blindfolded, conveying judgment made with impartiality. In Christian imagery, Themis becomes Archangel Michael holding his double-edged sword of righteousness in one hand and the scales in the other. Note the shift from female figures to male! However, in all cases, Libra was depicted as a divine figure weighing the equanimity of a soul's incarnational experience.

The Sun, although still in the sign of Cancer, has moved from the constellation itself and now lies under the auspices of the Head of the Lion, which peers over into the latter part of the sign of Cancer. The Lion's head express the energetic of trailblazers and adventurers, those willing to step from the incubational nest and explore new territory.

Our First Quarter Moon's stimulus to action, simply and succinctly impels us to take responsibility for our entrapments in our patterns of the past and to consciously choose to "do it differently."

Saturn Direct

Saturn completes its retrograde on August 13 conjoining Antares, with Mars approaching, and with Saturn and Neptune in a mere 1.5° orb to their exact second square. Saturn's direct station fully engages the new Earth-Saturn synodic cycle, presented in the May 6, 2016 Lunar Planner.

This is the first Earth-Saturn synod occurring as we enter the last quarter of the Jupiter-Saturn 20-year cycle. As we enter the last quarter of Jupiter-Saturn cycle, we come to realize that the existing sociopolitical structures we have created no long serve but now restrict the movement and expansion of consciousness Jupiter impels, thus arousing the need to begin to change those structures and their imposing limitations.

This first Earth-Saturn cycle, (like the first Earth-Jupiter cycle) occurring in the last quarter of 20-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle, augments how the energetic of the Jupiter-Saturn square expresses on Earth. This cycle impels us to begin to change sociopolitical structures in ways that support the freedom and self-empowerment of the people, sociopolitical systems that are in service to rather than those that dominate and control. It also impels us to change the constructs of our personal lives that serve our greater freedom and wellbeing, and that of others. The future beckons.

This phase brings a strong desire to connect and involve with others. The outer and opposite is alluring. It is a time of exploration and involvement with others. Flowers not only blossom to reveal their beauty, but their functional purpose is to provide the pollination required to bear fruit. This interaction brings clarity of purpose and builds into the enthusiastic energy required for fulfillment. Communication and intermixing of energies is highlighted. The purpose is to be of value to each other, stimulating creativity. Share your vision and direction, what you have been working on. The 3 1/2-day Pollinating Phase is a social time, which will culminate on the Full Moon.

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

The Gibbous Moon occurs on August 14 in Sagittarius with Vesta, asteroid of focus dedication and commitment, providing perspective in the Gemini Twins. Conjoining stars include those forming bow of the archer.

This location in the ecliptic is about our Zen stance, how to hit the target of our ideals, aspirations and dreams, which is an all or nothing deal. Athletes know the principle of the Zen archer's bow well. To achieve one's goals, whether a golfer, pole-vaulter, billiards player, skier, archer, or martial artist, the stance or form one holds is essential. Only if the archer is firmly grounded and holding the bow as if it is an integrated part of the body, and with undaunted focus, will the arrow hit the target. Only will the skier be able to take on the most challenging of slopes if the skies are felt as extensions of one's legs, firmly and gracefully moving in concert with the entire body, with the skier's awareness merged with the environment through which he floats. Simply this can be called our Zen stance, a whole body / environmental awareness expressed from the core of our being. Here lies impetus to apply the directed force of intent to achieve one’s spiritual ideals and purpose in the world.

M22 Facies Globular Star Cluster

M22 Facies Globular Star Cluster Considered to be one of finest in the sky, it is one of the brightest and can be seen with the naked eye on a clear night. It is about the size of a Full Moon and has about 500,000 stars. Image Credit: NASA, ESA & K. Sahu (STScI)

Telescopium, underlying the Zen Archer, articulates our long-range soul purpose seen with penetrating vision, which is common to the Zen Archer's approach in life. Telescopium impels us to look past or through the distractions around us and to focus only upon the target of our highest ideals

Also conjoining is Facies, M22, considered to be one of the finest globular cluster of stars in the heavens. It is elliptical in form and contains approximately 500,000 stars. It lies less than one degree north of the ecliptic, thus the planets frequently occult and synthesize with its essence. M22 marks the face of the Zen Archer and looks over the bow and hand of the Zen Archer. Facies radiates incredible light and thus illuminates all this false. Facies impels us to face the truth, to have total honesty with self and to manifest our higher ideals from that honesty. Facies imparts a sense of undaunted conviction, stability and confidence within self.

The Gibbous Moon's socially attractive magnetic force invites us to refine our form, to get into a proper stance in life, to reorganize and prioritize so we become one with our purpose in all aspects of our lives. It brings attention to the longer term and to what really matters in our lives, and how to achieve it. Opposing Vesta in busy-minded Gemini invites us to clear the trivia and superficial, and to get focused upon and committed to our longer-term goals ahead.

Still under the auspices of the Head of the Lion, the Sun moves into the sign of sidereal Leo on August 17.

The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some
is a New World for those who realize it is.

The Full Moon occurs on August 18 just into sidereal Aquarius. Conjoining stars include Sadr of Cygnus; a part of the Gamma Cygnus Emission Nebula IC1318; and the Quasar 2134+004 in Aquarius.

Sadr (Gamma), heart of Cygnus the swan, enters the ecliptic at the cusp of sidereal Aquarius. Cygnus lies north, along the galactic equator. Sadr, surrounded by the Gamma Cygni Nebula, impels us to emerge from the facades of incarnate life, to see beyond the mortal cloak and its folly to the intent of the heart and soul. Extending from Sadr to Gienah (epsilon) to Zeta is the wing of Cygnus with the beautiful Lacework Nebula residing upon the wing near Gienah.

Nebulas can obscures or color something hidden and to be discovered behind the surface level of mundane consciousness. They can also inspire creative artistry. Here, upon the cusp of Aquarius we can no longer hide in the facades of personality consciousness and cloaks of mortal sexuality. Here we are inspired to shift to and function from the maturity of soul-level (trans-personality) consciousness. Hence, as we move into Aquarius, motivation shifts from that based upon personal interest to that which serves the betterment of all.

Also marking the cusp of sidereal Aquarius and conjoining Sadr of Cygnus is the Quasar 2134+004 in Aquarius. This Quasar inspires us to access and bring forth our unique substance and soul essence that is of true value to each other and to the world, rather than projecting just superficial skin-deep appearances or false facades. Here we are motivated to demonstrate our capacity to participate with true humanitarian vision, with interest for all rather than for an exclusive few.

Our Full Moon brings our Scarab lunar cycle to its culmination. It incites motivation to strip off the cloaks of personality-based facades and shenanigans to reveal true heart-level self and to live from our deeper hearts' truth for the greater nourishment of all. It brings inspiration to lift our selves from a self-centered exclusive focus to a more embracing and inclusive level of participation. Time to emerge from the nest. It impels us to re-define our creative motive toward a nourishing humanitarian capacity, with the intent to help others, especially to help alleviate the struggle or suffering of others. It brings impetus toward altruistic gestures and humanitarian pursuits.

Here we come to realize a shift in our focus, from what we need collect for ourselves and family, to what we have to share with friends, family and the world. Become shareable!

The New Pallas Synodic Cycle

Mature Pallas expresses as the artful use of creative intelligence for solution beyond duality’s paradox. Mature Pallas expresses from the balance of the masculine and feminine principles, and from beyond the judgments of one side verses the other. Pallas invites the integration of our past experience in duality—from having been on both sides of the fence at one time or another—and to claim that experience as wisdom. It invites us to use that wisdom as a foundation to express nonjudgmental courageous solution beyond life’s paradoxes created by opposing forces.

Pallas is applier and defender of wisdom and truth; the expression of intellect in craft and inventiveness. Mature Pallas accepts personal responsibility for having co-created our experience; i.e. the resolution of victim consciousness. Pallas has the strategic capacity to link, unify and bring together; and has wonderful perceptual skills for pattern recognition, planning and public relations. Pallas often has a prominent placement in the charts of artists. Pallas significantly effects emotional and physical equilibrium.

Pallas issues can express as spiteful withdrawal, which ultimately can manifest as self-sabotage due to judgments about use of power or awry creative / sexual energy. It can also express as righteousness, judgment and invalidation of opposite or alternative views, lashing out with a vengeance. Pallas issues can express as an imbalance in the masculine and feminine aspects of self; sexuality issues, dyslexia and perceptual problems. Pallas governs the Liver / Spleen balance (violet / red), which is reflexed to the equilibrium and dizziness centre of the brain. More about Pallas and the asteroids.

Pallas began her retrograde on June 21 in Pegasus, north of Aquarius, over Enif of Pegasus. Pallas continues her retrograde through October 17, 2016, at which time the new Earth-Pallas synodic cycle humanitarian-focused theme will fully engage. Pallas then swings southward through the stars of Aquarius toward her south node. Pallas' passage through Aquarius is a very welcomed energetic shift in our less than humanitarian focused world.

Demonstrable expression and the imparting of our gifts anchors into the structure of our consciousness the self-empowerment gained from this Lunar Cycle.

The Disseminating Moon
Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.

The Disseminating Moon occurs on August 21 in sidereal Pisces. The Moon conjoins Alderamin and Zeta Cepheus; Alpheratz of Andromeda; and the Irregular Galaxy IC 1613 in Cetus.

Alpheratz is one of four stars of the Great Square of Pegasus and is part of Andromeda and Pegasus both. As Alpha Andromeda, it is the head (psyche) of the princess in chains. By its alternative name Sirrah, it is Delta Pegasus. Andromeda is unadulterated, innocent, naive, uncorrupted by evil, wrongdoing or malice. Alpheratz holds a position of extraordinary honor and advantage. This star often portends success and riches through social popularity and achievement.

Although the stage setting in which Andromeda is trapped (chained to rocks about to be devoured by Cetus) seems complex, there is a prerequisite for her freedom—an inner metamorphosis, an emotional maturing into the readiness to receive aid and become free. Often time, we are ready to change only when in the chains of the human struggle. And our inner readiness precedes receiving support to change. Forceful attempts to break free before we are ready only tighten the chain of bondage. Here lies our need to break free from the human mold, from the genetic, cultural, and personal pattering forming our lives. The stars of Andromeda articulate the struggle for freedom from the collective and tormenting forces of the psycho-emotional human world, to claim our true galactic birthright and evolutionary destiny. Alpheratz's fortuitous position ultimately brings success and reward in this worthy pursuit.

Alignments with Alpheratz can also express as being caught in the power plays created by the arrogance or denials of others. They can also indicate our vulnerability to the emotional and psychic delusions of others, especially those in our genealogical line or karmic past—often manifesting as elaborate emotional dramatics. Alpheratz asks us to get un-entangled from the human psycho-emotional drama, or accept a sentence of bondage not rightfully ours.

South of Pisces and conjoining Alpheratz is the Irregular Galaxy IC 1613 in Cetus, also conjoining Theta Cetus and Epsilon of Pisces. Irregular galaxies can express as some abnormality or odd formation or experience, and in this case, as confusing psychic-emotional conditions or environments that can leave the naïve vulnerable to entrapping situations. It re-emphasizes the need for inner clearing, purification or emotional refinement so as to slip by what otherwise might be a devouring scenario in the bowels of ole' Cetus—augmenting the theme of Alpheratz—not to sound too dramatic, but this is Cetus in Pisces.

North of Andromeda is King Cepheus of the Royal Family, father of Princess Andromeda. Alderamin, the Alpha star of King Cepheus, and Zeta Cepheus, which is ecliptically south of Alderamin, mark the shoulders of the King. These two stars form a triangle to the Super Giant Garnet Star, Erakis, which expresses a few degrees earlier into sidereal Pisces. The shoulders (responsibility of the King) dispense the wealth and fortuity common to Erakis (the Crown). Alderamin often portrays one in an authoritative position and imparts a quality of authoritative responsibility. With afflicted alignments, Alderamin can expresses as denial, avoidance, or turning one's head from dealing with the manipulative power plays causing our or other people's entrapment with a flippant attitude to do anything about them. Here we can live in submission to manipulative forces rather than to stand up for self and for those unjustly held in bondage, even when it is our responsibility to do so. With empowered alignments, Alderamin impels impartial and emotionally clearheaded authoritative action to address entrapping situations in a way that provides resolution. Alderamin ultimately provides aid or solution, but often after what may seem like an initial aloofness. Alpheratz and Alderamin amalgamate to form a fortunate outcome, but sometimes drawn out through the emotional Piscean waters, and a long period of unwillingness or simple naivete to look at and acknowledge how we are immersed in a pool of psycho-emotional denial, and that our growth and maturity is prerequisite to our greater freedom of being.

This is also the location Jupiter's perihelion (its closest distance to the Sun in its orbit). The influence of Jupiter’s resonance is significant and influential here. In this area of Pisces, from the Garnet Star of Cepheus, through Alpheratz and Alderamin, to Revati of Pisces, we can see the nature of Jupiter's expansive mobilizing force in our lives, suggesting Jupiter supports abundance, has authoritative social influence, is of honor and advantage, and serves to free that which is held in bondage for the manifestation of a greater potential, and it imparts this responsibility.

Our Demonstrable Moon imparts an impulse to create greater independence in our lives or to break away from limiting involvements that are no longer fulfilling. It impels demonstrable action that frees us from any mental-emotional turmoil or entrapments, those that keep us from a greater fulfillment in life. This can also involve financial issues, to seek ways for greater financial freedom, or in contrast, to break free from involvements that may provide financial freedom but do not fulfill our heart's true passion. It also impels us to think freely and progressively rather than acquiescing to limiting or entrapping mentalities.

Mercury & Jupiter

Mercury and Jupiter conjoin on August 22 as the two move across the Leo-Virgo cusp, conjoining Benetnash of Ursa Major and Zavijava of Virgo. A time of getting real is at hand, which will continue into October. Mercury is slowing, from Earth's perspective, as it approaches it retrograde station, to occur on August 30. Mercury will conjoin Jupiter a second time (on September 2) during the start of its retrograde back into the hind of the Lion and under the auspices of fiery Mizar, and the diversionary racket common to that area of the zodiak, and then a third time (on October 11) after Mercury completes its retrograde and close to Mercury's exalted location conjoining Porima and Vindemiatrix near mid-sidereal Virgo. Mercury and Jupiter's passage through the early part of sidereal Virgo occurs under the shining spiritual light of Super Galactic Center, also conjoining the Dwarf Planet Makemake. Two primary things happen during this time, Jupiter turns on and magnifies the inescapable light radiating from Super Galactic Center, and this light shines to reveal the minutest logistical details, which will cause a large scale and far-reaching Mercurial redefining period in the logistical aspects of our lives. The opening event, occurring under the auspices of Benetnash brings emphasis to long-established, old-paradigm political-religious powers, their figureheads, even if merely of a titular nature, and their innocent but naive followers. We will explore more about this entire period in the following Lunar Planner as the events unfold.

Mars, Saturn and Antares

Mars conjoins Saturn and Antares on August 24, just before the Last Quarter Moon, mentioned above and presented in more detail in the Mars-Saturn-Antares article. The Moon conjoins Aldebaran of Taurus opposing the Mars-Saturn-Antares conjunction on August 25, just after Last Quarter Moon, bringing the increasing intensity occurring over the last few months to its climax.

Inner Need

This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Essentially a lesser self is what we will be shedding. Acknowledging the needs we feel surfacing on the inner is essential to create the changes in our lives on the outer. This inner recognition provides the challenge to do so. There is impetus to withdraw from the activity of this entire cycle, to emerge from the stage setting that served our intended growth. Remember that others are having their inner needs as well! Demanding others change is not the solution to our well being. This is a good day for quite time. Allowing mutual space and sharing our realizations with mutual respect supports all parties.

Initiate Change

It is now time to plow under the crops so they may become the fertilizer for the next cycle. It is time to let go of any vested interest or attachment to the experience of the Lunar Cycle and to the stage props that served our growth. This is a transformational time, a time for personal change. Step forth from old facades, and free yourself from past ways of participating in life. This is a time of departure, of walking away from that which is no longer nourishing and to prepare the soil of our lives for that which is. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Not making the realized changes keeps ourselves bound in a circle of old patterns of growth; changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.

Last Quarter Moon
Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our “inner need to initiate change” in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle’s last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on August 24 (25 UT) in sidereal Taurus and under the auspices of Perseus. The Moon conjoins Mirphak (Alpha Perseus) and Atik, Zeta and the X–Perseus Neutron star, which form the foot of Perseus.

Last Quarter Moon Sidereal Astrology Chart

Last Quarter Moon - Sidereal Fagan-Bradley

Perseus expresses through the cusp and first decan of sidereal Taurus.

Perseus, in the story of Andromeda and the Royal Family, is the hero who slays Medusa, the Gorgon with seven snakes for hair, and then frees the princess Andromeda from being devoured by Cetus the Sea Monster. In this story, Queen Cassiopeia, with boastful arrogance, proclaimed that her daughter, the Princess Andromeda, was of far greater beauty than Poseidon's Nereids, the nymphs of the sea. Poseidon (a greater authoritarian power) responded by sending Cetus the Sea Monster to ravage the shores of Ethiopia, the kingdom that Queen Cassiopeia and King Cepheus ruled. King Cepheus was advised by the Oracle of Ammon to sacrifice Andromeda to Cetus to appease Poseidon. In acquiescence, Andromeda was chained to the rocks by the sea to be devoured by Cetus.

On his way to Seriphos, Perseus stops in Ethiopia where he learns of the Andromeda’s entrapment. In one version he flies over Cetus upon Pegasus, in another using his winged sandals. Either way, he carries the head of slain Medusa (Algol at cuspal Taurus), which he reveals to Cetus. Seeing Medusa’s head, Cetus turns to stone and shatters into the sea. He then frees Andromeda, returning her safely to the gracious appreciation of King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Perseus marries Princess Andromeda and creates the city and rules a kingdom that bore the Persian world. He and Andromeda bore a family as well, two daughters and seven sons. Hercules was descendent of Perseus and Andromeda through one of their sons.

Mirphak, Alpha Perseus, a fortuitous star, the elbow of Perseus, imparts a charismatic characteristic. Mirphak embodies the totality and success of all that our hero Perseus embodies. Mirphak inspires responsible action to claim the true gift from the inner refinement we have gained through our past initiatory fires. Here we must acknowledge that our trials had to precede stepping forth into a greater fulfillment and our future destiny.

South of Mirphak is right leg of Perseus, consisting of Nu, Menkhib, and Adid. Conjoining Mirphak is the right foot of Perseus created by Atik, Omi Perseus; Zeta Perseus; and the intense neutron star, X–Perseus. Zeta and X-Perseus bring a powerful capacity to infuse the spiritual power gained from our initiations in life and to manifest our longer-term purpose and destiny in the physical world. This area in the ecliptic impels bold dynamic physical action and heroic deeds. It is of undaunted strength and endurance in this pursuit.

Also adding to this energetic is Quasar 3C110 of Eridanus, the River of Life, conjoining Theemin and Beid of Eridanus. Quasar 3C110 also conjoining Mirphak, Miram, and the foot of Perseus, inspires ingenuity to remold what may have been a physical barrier into the very means to accomplish a greater purpose.

Our Last Quarter Moon impels the need to gather our personal strength and wisdom gained from our previous initiations and to make changes in our lives that move us beyond what were perhaps seemingly insurmountable barriers. Noble and heroic deeds are encouraged.

Venus, Jupiter and Mercury

Venus, Jupiter and Mercury conjoin on August 27, just before the Balsamic Moon, while helically setting (in the western sky at sunset), adding a wonderful energetic to the completion of this lunar cycle, certainly welcomed considering the intensity of the times. Venus-Jupiter synods and conjunctions are one of the most harmonious, impelling peace, generosity, the expansion and mobilization of our values, and social involvement. Look to the west with an open heart at sunset and embrace this beneficent energetic and feel what it means to you.

The latter part of this phase results in coalescing all that was experienced in the cycle into its essence, into its seed form. It is a reflective time looking back over the past, of extracting and assembling what was learned from the cycle, claiming its true wealth and wisdom. This is a great time to explore what we learned in the context of the new moon theme. It is this seed essence which is of true value to our greater growth. This seed will sprout in the next Lunar Cycle of growth and unfoldment, and morph into the next Lunar Cycle's theme.

Our focus now turns toward the future. We now turn away from looking back over the past cycle completely and begin to look ahead, preparing for and anticipating the future cycle to come, to a new step to emerge in our Lunar Path of Fulfillment. The seed is planted. It is time to let it germinate. Completing any lose ends is appropriate, or to move into a new position for the next cycle to unfold. Here we make the field of all possibilities smooth and clear, ready for the new sprouting to occur.

Balsamic Moon
Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in the lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Balsamic Moon occurs on August 28 conjoining Castor and Pollux of the Gemini Twins, Gomeisa of Canis Minor, and Adhara of Canis Major.

The Twins are marked by the two principal lucidas, Pollux and Castor, which depict their heads in mythical illustration. These two stars which mark the last few degrees of sidereal Gemini, embody the essence of the Twins.

Gemini is of high intensity intellectual communication, information, commerce, goods and services, and of their exchange. The Twins are of partnerships in mutual cooperation participating in the human world, linking and uniting through their daily affairs in the world. The Twins work hand-in-hand for the betterment and evolutionary fulfillment of humankind.

Castor is the liaison in the world of daily human affairs, and is of partnerships and cooperation. Castor brings resources and people together that serve to get logistics accomplished in the world of business and commerce. Pollux brings a greater awareness to the efforts of Castor, uniting individuals, groups and factions with concern for the greater evolutionary fulfillment of all parties. Pollux imparts more of an intuitive awareness, whereas Castor has more of an intellectual emphasis. Pollux is the ambassador, orator, link, and liaison regarding more spiritual and evolutionary and matters, compared to Castor's role as a colleague applied in the management of daily human affairs. Pollux portends success, eminence and renown.

Also entering this few degree area of the ecliptic is Adhara, a part of the hindquarter of Canis Major; and Gomeisa of Canis Minor. Adhara conjoins Castor and Gomeisa conjoins Pollux. The Arabic Adhara means virgins (and should not be confused with Aludra, the pure one of the bread, which is nearby in longitude but not in distance). Adhara is the aid, assistant or manager, those in a liaison position in larger cooperative groups or organizations. Adhara inspires co-participation and the emergence of colleagues and friends to lend a hand to Castor's managerial efforts.

Gomeisa is assistant to the principal star of Canis Minor, Procyon, which also conjoins Pollux and which marks the sidereal Gemini-Cancer cusp. Procyon is of larger groups and organizations working for the betterment humanity in business and commerce. Gomeisa can indicate those with special expertise in the areas of negotiation and communication, sometimes those that assist such efforts behind the scenes.

Our Balsamic Moon coalesces into essence the experience of this lunar cycle, which becomes the seed to express anew into the following lunar cycle—linking individuals together in larger groups or organizations that can serve a purpose far greater than the separate parties can accomplish alone. Here we find motivation for the coordination and exchange of resources and information between individuals and groups, and the planning of more encompassing joint ventures.

Mercury & Ceres Retrogrades

Mercury begins its retrograde on August 30, which continues into the following lunar cycle. Mercury's retrograde occurs in late Leo-early Virgo, an area of the heavens associated with diversionary antics in the global political scene, but also providing opportunity to attune to transcendent truth and guidance. Ceres begins its retrograde on August 31 in sidereal Aries.

The following New Moon, occurring on September 1, produces an Annular Solar Eclipse in the midst of sidereal Leo, opposite Neptune and squaring Saturn, again bringing emphasis to the Saturn-Neptune Square with stimulus for more change in our personal and sociopolitical ideals and the structures we formulate around them. More to come then.
