Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are—our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.
The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.
The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).
Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.
There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution as a collective.

This January 28, 2017 UT (Jan 27 MST) New Moon resides amongst the stars of Capricorn, the goat. The New Moon conjoins Tau, Psi and Omega of Capricorn, the latter two mark the goat's front foot. The tip of the Missile of Zeus conjoins from the northern heavens. It conjoins the stars Gamma, Eta and Zeta of the Microscope. Indus articulates the energetic below. It also conjoins what once was Sanduleak's star in the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of our own, in the very southern heavens. Sanduleak's star blew to smithereens in 1987 leaving nothing but a Super Nova Remnant behind.
Sagitta, the missile of Zeus, extends over the first decan of sidereal Capricorn, with its tip, Gamma Sagitta, of significance here. Sagitta embodies our strategic arsenal of tools—whether applied for war or peace—this includes our personal tools and expertise to accomplish our goals in the material world.
Gamma Sagitta and Alpha Microscopium conjoin. Microscopium, lying between Capricorn and Indus, articulates the detailed-minded and focused nature of this area of sidereal Capricorn. Gamma Sagitta, the tip of the missile, inspires direct application of our strategic tools. Alpha Microscopium articulates the importance of detailed and intelligent investigation, rather than assuming surface appearances reveal the truth, which is required for proper application of our strategic tools and our strategies in life. Both impart a highly detailed focus. These two stars also articulate our modern-day tools of war, such as laser-based satellites and missiles with pinpoint accuracy.
Our arsenal of tools, no matter what they are, must be applied with knowing the facts, with accuracy, and from a place of global vision, equilibrium and poise, as actions veiled in stupidity, based in from fear, or the use of blind brut force, can have damaging or utterly devastating ramifications.
On February 23, 1987, a star called Sanduleak suddenly blew to bits in a spectacular supernova, now labeled SN1987A. We normally see a neutron star in the midst of a Super Nova Remnant. A neutron star is the dead remains of the original star made of neutrons compressed into an extraordinary density. In this case there should have been a neutron star in place of Sanduleak, but perplexingly it was non-existent—fitting to the theme at this zodiacal longitude, and the "Tip of Missile."
Indus, classically the desert Persian, is the native indigenous person, much like the Native American, the Aboriginal, Desert Arab, Hawaian Kahuna, or the Mountain Shaman—sometimes ornately dressed or adorned, and sometimes totally inconspicuous and unassuming. Indus articulates the steward of a special place, a keeper of secret knowledge and sacred ways. This is the world of the shamanistic, the ceremonial, and passionate; of all that is indigenous. It can even be of fanaticism and obsession. Although seemingly driven from personal motive and privacy, it is often of those with a broad global vision and special interest. Either way, surface appearances, cloaks and facades often shroud who is who in an aura of mystery. Indus has a deep respect for the land, for life, and is intimately sensitive to a place's power and purpose.

This lunar cycle brings attention to the symbiotic nature of our lives, especially the symbiosis of our lives and Earth, of our physical wellbeing and the land and environment, of our consciousness and that of Earth's.
It brings emphasis to issues of trust and impels us to trust in self and in life even though we may not see how to get to where are we going. Here lies our need to keep moving forward by trusting in the paths of our souls and in the forces of nature guiding us, rather than in preconceptions made from our limited egoic selves, which are biased by the deceiving physical facades we wear upon the incarnate stage of life or the circumstances of our lives.
It impels us to do our own investigative research, to examine the detail, to get the facts rather than following superficial appearances, what the masses naively follow, or what we may hear or see in the media or on the internet. It brings emphasis not only to listening, but to hearing, to hearing the meaning behind the noise of mass mentality and its chatter, or to the truth hidden beneath our own mental chatter. It brings emphasis to work, commitment to our long-term goals and to education and teaching. It impels conscious creative initiative with intuitive sensitivity to environmental conditions to manifest the lives we seek.
Blunders made by following assumptions and miss-information can lead to the same fate of Sanduleak's star.

About Light & Sound Harmonics
The New Moon is also quintile (72°) to the Uranus-Eris conjunction and thus is Tredecile (108°) to the Jupiter-Haumea conjunction, which is the Quintile's compliment. The quintile and tredecile are angles common to sacred geometry. The quintile is a 5th harmonic (a division of a whole into five parts). It impels an expansive awakening into our uniqueness of being, into our unique individuality, to rise from the common or repetitive bounds of the quarternized world (to step out of the box of mass-consciousness). It is like the emergence of a unique flower from a bud, or the emergence of a butterfly from a cocoon. The tredecile imparts a mothering quality, a serendipitous interaction that supports a unique or special situation, the awakening into uniqueness imparted by the quintile, and in this case the energetic of the Uranus-Eris synthesis, impelling us to create progressive innovative radical change based upon the disclosures and exposures of that which had been hidden from view or covered over by discordant motives. This is also of significance because Haumea has somewhat of a midwife quality, impelling a new birth of consciousness, to re-create or to produce a new expression of our selves, and of course (conjoining) Jupiter magnifies and mobilizes this energetic.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, this entire lunar cycle is an ideal time to work with the Saturn, Uranus and Jupiter Bio-harmonic Audio Mediations. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativite vision with the original lunar theme. The Crescent Moon brings insight to see how the New Moon theme will express and the opportunity for growth it provides.
The Crescent Moon occurs on January 31 lying just into sidereal Pisces, conjoining Venus by about 1/2°. The Crescent Moon-Venus conjunction occurs when Venus is near its eastern elongation. Venus' eastern elongation occurred on January 12, 2017, thus the few Crescent Moons surrounding the eastern elongation conjoin Venus. The Moon conjoins Mars just afterward. This triple conjunction can be seen just after Sunset in the western sky.
Crescent Moon, Venus & Mars at Sunset (Northern Hemisphere view).
Venus elongations are turning points in the Earth-Venus relationship. From our view on Earth, the eastern elongation marks the time when Venus is seen at its furthest distance from the Sun, and this is why we can see Venus well above the horizon at Sunset. This distance then begins to reduce, heading back toward the time when its retrograde begins, to then conjoin the Sun, and to then complete its retrograde. As Venus makes its alignment with the Sun, it then begins moving toward its western elongation. The time now, just passing the eastern elongation, means that the Earth-Venus 1.6-year cycle is coming to its completion. It is a time when we feel the fullness the cycle had to offer. The Venus retrograde begins this year on March 4. More about Earth-Venus synods can be found on the Venus web page.
The Venus Crescent Moon lies just a couple of degrees before the Vernal Point. Mars lies a couple of degree past the Vernal Point (5° sidereal Pisces). Here at the cusp, is where we move from the high-mental activity of latter Aquarius into an inward mental focus, more into our deeper feelings and our inherited nature.
Pisces is the constellation of the two fishes—a dual sign. One fish swims westward, horizontally along the ecliptic plane, with its head, marked by the "Circlet" of stars lying upon the Aquarius-Pisces cusp. The western fish, and the "Circlet" of stars marking its head, articulates our primordial autonomic (sleeping) nature, and our unconsciously reactive participation in the cycle of mortal life. It is of our inherited genealogies that we are born into and the behavioral patterns they express. The eastern fish leaps upward, vertically from the ecliptic plane, seeking a greater freedom at the shores of sidereal Aries. The eastern fish articulates our desire to ascend from our inherited past and its ideologies, and our effort to awaken from submersion in the tumultuous psychic emotional human world articulated by southern Cetus.
Our Venus Crescent Moon impels us to attune to what we intuitively feel, to find inspiration from our values of the heart. It impels us to get in touch with our own inner spiritual truth rather than acquiescing to the dualistic metallizations of the externalized world. The Moon and Venus are also separating in square from the Juno-Pholus conjunction in early sidereal Sagittarius. This impels us to interrelate in our partnerships from a deeper inner truth in the context of a unified awareness and our greater aspirations in our lives. It impels attunement to the transcendent purpose of our relations rather than the superficial or transient issues we may face, to awaken to that purpose and live it. The values we hold in our hearts become that which is important.
We have entered an intensification of planetary aspects around January 17 with the first exact Jupiter-Eris opposition, which continues to intensify through early March (throughout this lunar cycle and the next). This involves the Jupiter-Haumea conjunction in opposition to the Uranus-Eris conjunction. Jupiter maintains an exceptionally tight orb in its opposition to Eris (less than 1/2°) as it slows to its retrograde station, which occurs on Feb 5-6, and then through its second exact opposition, which occurs on the Balsamic Moon of Feb 22. During this time, Vesta, now retrograde, moves into position to make a sustained T-Square with the entire Jupiter-Haumea / Uranus-Eris alignment (which can be seen in the New Moon astrology chart and the subsequent charts presented). This sustained T-Square occurs throughout this entire lunar cycle. Vesta conjoins Pollux and Castor of the Gemini Twins, bringing emphasis to ambassadorial negotiation and mutual cooperation.
Mercury, just after conjoining Pluto on January 29 (just after the New Moon), briefly triggers and fulfills this T-Square by opposing Vesta to make a Grand Square. This occurs on January 31 through February 2, between the Crescent and First Quarter Moons of this lunar cycle. The Moon activates this Grand Square as it conjoins Uranus and Eris on February 2—certainly to be a potent if not an extra-significant day. This Vesta sustained T-Square and the Mercury Grand Square precedes a yet more potent event as Mars makes its conjunction with Uranus and Eris in opposition to Jupiter and Haumea in late February on the next New Moon, an Annular Solar Eclipse.
In short, we can consider this configuration (the Vesta retrograde T-Square and Mercury Grand Square) as a time to get clear and refocused, and to rededicate our commitment to our paths forward. This is a prerequisite to the Mars late February Solar Eclipse trigger, which will provide catalyst to then actualize progressive radical change. Vesta will complete its retrograde after this event, in mid-March, and then make another T-Square with the Uranus-Eris-Haumea opposition in April, closing this phase of triggers occurring in this longer series of alignments with Uranus, Eris, Jupiter and Haumea, which continues through September 2017. More about this is presented in the January updates in the article "Disclosure & Discovery, New Frontiers in Consciousness 2016-2017," where I will also expound upon the details and meaning of these events over time.
A segment of the 2016-2017 Graphic Ephemeris showing Vesta's aspects, with the Mercury and Mars triggers.

A Brief Recap of the Planetary Forces Active
Eris, our warrior princess, uncovers, exposes and discloses our denials or what we are simply blind to see. She opens our eyes to a greater reality once hidden, forcing us to redefine our world view, and to embark upon new paths accordingly. Conjoining Uranus, the Great Awakener, impeller of radical and progressive change, breaks us from the conforming bounds of an antiquated past.
Vesta, another feminine force, is the asteroid of focus, dedication and commitment; of physical, emotional, and mental clarity; and of self-respect. Vesta brings a capacity to be pure within self at all levels for the expression of one’s highest potential and true Essence. Vesta is of strength, purity, and perfection—of total dedication to purpose. Vesta brings attention to that which is of true importance to us and will ignite and burn away that which is not so we can become clear. Vesta is keeper of the sacred flame within self. Vesta asks us to examine our inner values, our passion in life, to become clear on them, and to use our creativity to keep that fire alive.
Haumea, yet another feminine force, impels a rebirth in consciousness, or to take on a new form, to reinvent our selves. Although perhaps a gentler force than Eris, she nonetheless expresses from an exceptionally dynamic high-velocity state in perfect equilibrium, powerful and confident in knowing what is required to facilitate a new birth. Haumea is now ramped up in power, higher ideals, and expansive mobilization by majestic Jupiter.
For those who have the Planetary Bio-Harmonic Audio Meditations, the January 31 through February 2 is an ideal time to work with the Mercury, Uranus and Jupiter Bio-harmonic Audio Mediation. See this Month's Lunar Calendar for exact aspect times; or the "Lunar Cycle Timing Chart" found under the "Resources" menu on the Planetary Bio-Harmonics web page.
The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on February 3 (Feb 4 UT) in sidereal Aries. Conjoining stars include Menkar of Cetus, Tish of Cassiopeia, Almach of Andromeda, and Alpha Horologium.
Classically, Aries is figured as a reclining ram with its head looking back over itself, admiring his own golden fleece. The theme of Aries the Ram, whether articulated by the Royal Family or Jason and the Argonauts search for the golden fleece is about the initiatory challenges that continually create obstacles and limitations across life's path as we seek to personal attainment in life. These obstacles, often created by our righteous attitudes of arrogance, create painful and repetitive lessons in the fires of life about that very thing—pride, arrogance, and greed—lessons that ultimately produce the alchemical honing of self. The lessons of Aries awaken us from our denial and naiveté regarding how arrogance and greed create our own entrapment in the Jaws of Cetus—the jaws continually pulling us into the transmutational fires of human experience. Sidereal Aries articulates the journey through life. It is of self-initiated action, confidence in self, personal attainment, and leadership.
This few-degree area of sidereal Aries is about the story of Andromeda and the Royal Family. In brief, Queen Cassiopeia’s boastful arrogance, that her daughter, princess Andromeda, was more beautiful than the Nereids of the Sea, peeved Poseidon, who as punishment, sent Cetus the Sea Monster to ravage the shores of Ethiopia, which Queen Cassiopeia and King Cepheus ruled. Cepheus was advised that the only way to appease Poseidon was to sacrifice is daughter, the Princess Andromeda, to Cetus. In acquiescence, the King had Andromeda chained to the cliff at the sea to be devoured by Cetus. Here, at this longitude in the story, Cetus is about to devour the princess and time is ticking away.
The beautiful and nearly perfect shaped Andromeda Spiral Galaxy. This mosaic of M31 merges 330 individual images taken by the Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope aboard NASA's Swift spacecraft. It is the highest-resolution image of the galaxy ever recorded in the ultraviolet. M31 is more than 220,000 light-years across and lies 2.5 million light-years away. On a clear, dark night, the galaxy is faintly visible as a misty patch to the naked eye. The irregular shape of the image results when the more than 300 images were assembled to make the final image. Cassiopeia, crusted with frustration due to finding herself unable to have that which she knows she is entitled, in between the tormenting forces of both the manipulative gods (astronomical cycles of life) and the monstrous human world, and at loss with how to deal with either, becomes spitefully arrogant. It is Cassiopeia's spiteful arrogance that got her daughter Andromeda chained to the rocks to be devoured by Cetus to start with, as the queen was boasting that her daughter was more beautiful that the nymphs of sea. Fortunately or unfortunately as the case might be, when feeling trapped and we lash out against the world around us, the whip of arrogance (Tish, Gamma Cassiopeia) often snaps back to scar our own hand, especially when applied with vengeance. Lowering ourselves to this level or resourcefulness, using a tool found only in the dramatics of the monstrous world, will lead us only to our own demise. Here we have a statement of something we must surrender to receive that which we are due—righteous arrogance, the attitude that keeps us from our very own fulfillment.
Cetus is the fear-instilling techno-bureaucratic monster of collective human consciousness. The body of Cetus lies submerged in sidereal Pisces, but its neck and head reach up upon the shores of Aries, with its head lying in mid-sidereal Aries. The head of Cetus articulates the intelligence of Cetus and is marked by two primary stars, Kaffaljidhma, the brain of Cetus, and Menkar, the jaws of Cetus. Who is it that creates this central intelligencia? Many would like to blame the monster on every thing and every one outside of self, a victim mentality perpetuating our human condition and the entrapments we find ourselves in. However, the key phrase here is "human consciousness." This implies each of us is responsible for the collective consciousness we find ourselves in—the reality of our personal lives and that of our world we uphold by consensus.
Almach is princess Andromeda’s snagged foot about to be bitten off by conjoining Menkar, the jaws of Cetus. Classically, Almach is considered an honorable and eminent star; and Andromeda is unadulterated, innocent, naive, uncorrupted by evil, wrongdoing or malice; and holds a position of extraordinary honor and advantage. Menkar, however, expresses as an entrapping force for those who are naïve, innocent, or passive, and who are often caught in the arrogant power plays of others.

Conjoining from the south is Alpha Horologium, the pendulum clock, which embodies the characteristic of impending time and brings our awareness to the fact that there is a finite period, with time ticking away, to do more than seems humanly possible. Seemingly, a miracle is required, and often time, at the last minute, one arrives—usually provided through cooperation with another party. However, we must be willing to release the pressure we are applying in attempt to free ourselves, as it really creates the tension that keeps us entrapped. Only then can we make our passage.
Our First Quarter Moon impels action to free ourselves from any entrapping situations we may find ourselves in. Time may be of essence. However, an inner tension must be surrendered that is upheld by our attitudes or judgments. The Sun's position in Capricorn, now under the auspices of Delphinus, the Dolphin star system, impels us to take such action from a place of receptivity, attuned to a greater wisdom or greater guiding forces, rather than from adamancy.
Jupiter begins its retrograde on February 5 (Feb 6 UT), to arrive at its second direct oppositions with Eris and Uranus, occurring on Feb 22 and March 3 respectively, during which will occur Mars' conjunction with Uranus and Eris. Jupiter maintains a very tight orb in its opposition to Eris throughout this time (less than 1°), as shown in the graphic ephemeris presented above. Jupiter will also arrive to make it second exact square to Pluto on March 30. Jupiter's direct station will occur on June 9, and then head for its third and final opposition to Eris and Uranus as it conjoins Haumea with Ceres creating a T-Square in the September grand finale of Jupiter's role in the Uranus-Eris-Haumea 2-year alignment. All of this is graphically shown in the graphic ephemeris in the Uranus-Eris-Haumea article, and in the 2017 annual Graphic Ephemeris. Jupiter's retrograde station conjoins Haumea and the stars Archturus, Spica and Eta Carinae. See "Secrets of the Virgin" to learn more about these stars and the esoteric nature of this area of the heavens.
The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.
The Gibbous Moon of February 7 occurs in the Gemini Twins. Conjoining stars include Tejat and Dirah, and surrounding nebulas, which form the foot of Castor. Gamma Monoceros conjoins from the south.
Gemini is of high intensity intellectual communication, information, commerce, goods and services, and of their exchange. The Twins are of partnerships in mutual cooperation, linking and uniting efforts through their daily affairs in the world. The Twins work hand-in-hand for the betterment and evolutionary fulfillment of humankind.
The foot of Castor is composed of Tejat, Eta Gemini, IC 444—a large emission nebula, and Dirah (Tejat Posterior) Mu Gemini. Tejat, Dirah and IC 444 portend eminence and renown, and will make visible that which has been suppressed, oppressed, hidden in the closet, but destined to be seen.
"IC433 is a supernova remnant of a star that exploded about 35000 years ago. It is located approx. 5000 light years away. To the left is IC444, a large emission nebula, which also contains a small reflection nebula (the small bluish patch in the upper middle). The two bright stars are Eta (Tejat) and Mu (Dirah) of Gemini." Eta and Mu are less than 2° apart. Credit: NASA Hubble Space Telescope
Alignments with the foot of Castor mark the time to come out of hiding, to become visible and sharable. This can also impel the need to emerge from our own mental obscurations or illusions. Tejat and Dirah impel us to show up and participate, to take the steps that are required for what we truly want in our lives. Tejat can also indicate those who are physically marked in some way: including birth marks, genetic marks, or other unique features including tattoos, and especially jewels; or it may reveal marks or signs affirming it is time for demonstrable action.
As Tejat brings to the surface that which has been suppressed, we may see parts of our selves that seem rather dark and opposing to our emergence—the fears, hesitancies, and blockages within our selves that we must step through into our paths of fulfillment in the world. Tejat and Dirah invite us to be willing to walk through the shadows of self to claim our power and place in the physical world. The more we express the truth of who we are openly in the world the less forces attempting to suppress that truth have any power.
Conjoining Gamma Monoceros of the Unicorn often indicates a unique opportunity, one unexpected and magical that may be obscured or hidden, but which may appear seemingly out of nowhere, perhaps marked in a unique eye-catching or unmistakable way, an opportunity that can bring fragmented pieces into a greater unified effort provided we step forth to meet it.
Our Gibbous Moon brings emphasis to mutual cooperation for the betterment of humanity. It impels us to communicate, to connect and involve, to become shareable from a truer, more open-hearted and more self-empowered level of consciousness in our daily activity amongst humankind, amongst our peers and colleagues, in social areas, and in our domestic and international relations.
The Time of Global Change is at Hand.
What is the end of the World for some
is a New World for those who realize it is.

Moving at 51,000 mph, Comet 45P/H-M-P will be closest to Earth around 8:00 UT (1:00 AM MST / 3:00 AM EST) on Saturday morning, February 11th. Best viewing times last for about 5 days, although hampered a bit by the Moon's light. The Comet conjoins Haumea and Jupiter on February 14 (opposite Uranus-Eris).
The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.
We now enter a six-month eclipse transition. This Full Moon, occurring on February 10 (Feb 11 UT), produces a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, although viewable, it is not too spectacular visually because the Moon will dim just slightly. The Lunar Eclipse is followed by an Annular Solar Eclipse, which occurs on February 26 (our following New Moon). It is nearly a Total Eclipse, with the Moon covering 98.5% of the Sun's disk. It will be visible in the southern hemisphere. The main event for 2017, eclipse wise, comes with the August 21 Total Solar Eclipse, which crosses the continental US (shown below the lunar month synopsis on the current Lunar Planner home page).
"The entire eclipse is visible from Europe, Africa, western Asia, eastern North and South America. Observers in western North and South America miss the early stages of the eclipse while eastern Asia misses the late stages. None of the eclipse is visible from Japan, Australia or New Zealand." Fred Espenak, EclipseWise.com
Eclipses in Our Lives
Generally, eclipse lunar cycles mark a time of shifting into a new octave of experience. They offer a time to resynchronize our selves with the ever-changing cosmic currents supporting our evolutionary progression in consciousness. Eclipses tend to bring about endings and new beginnings. How dramatic these changes can be and in what areas of our lives is a function of star alignments and other aspecting planets occurring at the time of the eclipse, and where they occur in our natal (and especially a relocated) chart. They can have a far greater effect in our lives when they conjoin other natal planets and personal points by ±6°. Eclipses bring emphasis to issues related to the chart area and planets involved. Eclipse influences generally last about six months, until the next eclipse occurs. Eclipse lunar cycles are ideal times to set new six-month goals to create personal change in our lives, not necessarily on the solar or lunar eclipse, but based upon the realizations we have throughout the eclipse lunar cycle.
Solar eclipses offer opportunity to redefine concepts of self and the roles we play in the world, or how we articulate ourselves in life. They are about shifting octaves in the nature of our self-perception and self-expression, and addressing issues that keep us from doing so. They can invite a new beginning, way of life, or new way of participating in life.
Lunar eclipses tend to be more emotionally palpable in nature, how we feel about and respond to our life experience. They are about releasing the emotional bonds within ourselves that glue us to involvements that are less than we truly want or deserve. They are also about the emotional and experiential aspects of our relations with others and with the world. Lunar eclipses provide opportunity for an emotional resynchronization.
This Full Moon eclipse occurs in late sidereal Cancer. The Moon lies past the constellation of Cancer and under the auspices of the head of the Lion, which peers over the Leo cusp back into the sign of Cancer. The Moon conjoins Algenubi and Rasalas of Leo; Tania of the Great Bear; Pherkad of Ursa Minor (the Bear Cub); and the Owl Nebula in Ursa Major.
Algenubi, Eye of the Lion, brings inspiration to see beyond what we currently experience into new, remote or other realms, to break trail into new vistas of experience. Rasalas, the crown, inspires extraordinary accomplishment in this pursuit. These are stars of visionaries, explorers, pioneers, and adventurers with little interest or contentment to merely fit in with those performing on the worldly stage. These people seek to go beyond the norm in accomplishment. They are undaunted in the face of perilous explorations and are proud to demonstrate it. These are trailblazers, those willing to leave the comfort of mass-consensus, who are self-reliant to step forth into unexplored territory, the ones who seek a better way to live and are able to envision new horizons, those who seek to discover new possibilities waiting to be realized.
Tania Bor. and Tania Aus. form the hind-foot of the Great Bear. Tania imparts a strong sense of the power of conviction, a confidence that propels us beyond our current accepted stance in life, a strength to believe in a prosperous future.
Kochab (Beta) and Pherkad (Gamma) of Ursa Minor, the Little Bear, are the guardians of the pole star, Polaris (Alpha). Kochab and Pherkad inspire constancy and consistency in our actions, to be trustworthy, faithful and enduring in our pursuits, especially with consideration for the young and for future generations to come.
Our Full Moon eclipse brings our Capricorn lunar cycle to its culmination. It brings an emotional reset and release of tension. It is exceptionally progressive, imparting a sense of optimism, emotional confidence, enthusiasm and adventure for the six months ahead—in the midst of ongoing and accelerating change. It brings emphasis to break new trail, to break new ground, to leave the comfort of mass consensus, to go where we have not gone before.
The Sun and Full Moon Eclipse directly aspect the Uranus-Eris opposition to Jupiter-Haumea, by trine and sextile creating a rectangle or strength, and to Saturn, just as Saturn enters sidereal Sagittarius, still conjoining tyrannical Ixion. Saturn-Ixion, being the capstone and midpoint to the rectangle makes it a primary factor in our Full Moon eclipse geometry. A Grand Trine forms between the Moon, Uranus-Eris and Saturn-Ixion. The overall geometry creates and exceptional stable harmonious doorway. Note the aspects to Chiron—the key to unlock the door! However, do note that Saturn-Ixion (long-established tyrannical bureaucracies) is a dominating and governing factor presiding over this geometry.
Entering Sagittarius, Saturn impels us to commit to manifesting our higher ideals and a greater embracing unified awareness. (The Saturn-Ixion conjunction is another story entirely, which I will present in more detail in an upcoming article.)
Saturn had been making passage through the stars of Ophiuchus and over those of the Scorpion for the last few years. It had been in sidereal Scorpio since late 2014, a difficult energetic in some regard, one about confronting issues about the use of power as well as impelling us to own and become responsible for our own use of power—to grow, heal, transform, and mature in this way. At the same time, it brought emphasis upon the long established bureaucracies' tendency to control the use of resources and the power of others. All of this aroused deep-seated emotional issues for many people, bringing emphasis to the need to face and address those issues and our reactive tendencies driven from a primal fear of survival. Now, as Saturn makes passage through the star field of Sagittarius over the next few years, it impels us to commit to a higher calling, to manifest and concretize our higher ideals and a greater galactic or unified awareness. On the other hand, established bureaucracies may (most likely will) attempt to control the pursuit for such greater freedom. But this is like trying to control a stallion that was born to be wild. The Centaur reaches for the stars and will not be bound. This however also impels us to evolve our bureaucracies and societal structures to meet our higher ideals. Saturn makes its climatic arrival, along with Jupiter, to conjoin Pluto in late sidereal Sagittarius and under the Auspices of Aquila the Eagle in 2020. See "The 2020 Jupiter-Saturn-Pluto Synods, With Ceres, Mars and Pallas."
The Sun enters sidereal Aquarius on February 13, the day before the Disseminating Moon.
The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.
The Disseminating Moon occurs on February 14 in mid-sidereal Virgo. The Moon conjoins Vindemiatrix, Porrima and Auva of Virgo; Alchiba, Minkar and Gienah of Corvus; and Alherem on the sail of the Argo.
Vindemiatrix and Porrima mark the centre of sidereal Virgo and embody the essence of sidereal Virgo. Slightly past but between the two is Auva. This is also the exalted seat for our winged messenger Mercury, significantly adding perspective and understanding to the nature of the stars at this ecliptical longitude. Mercury is the vessel by which these stars function in their highest expression, that is, through the neurology of communication and logistics, and all that Mercury characterizes.
Porrima, just two degrees north of the ecliptic expresses through the more transcendent nature of the mind—our higher brain centers that activate a greater perceptual capacity, often associated with clairvoyance and telepathy. Porrima impels us to have foresight to see future or remote probabilities. Vindemiatrix, just north of Porrima, classically the Harvester, indicates the time is at hand, that it is in the timing. "This star is said to confer great powers of thought and an exacting, severe nature" (friend and siderealist Andrés Takra). Both stars lie over Corvus the Raven, the messenger bird.
Corvus is of high intelligence, ingenuity, imagination, insight and adaptability. The brains of Ravens are among the largest of any bird species. They are problem solvers, inventors and are highly opportunistic. Corvus is the keeper of secrets and a knowledge holder, but is also a prophetic revealer—the oracular "raven messenger bird" to those who are so attuned, and who ask and listen. Corvus implores us to pay astute attention to the signs or messages naturally expressing through the world around us moment-by-moment and to adapt accordingly. The signs found in the simplest of life experience can have meaning if we are willing to be attentive to them. In fact, we can even ask to receive guidance, or information about future or remote events, simply by briefly holding the intent to inquire and then letting it go and listen. It is the sincere projection of clear intent that vibrationally elicits a response from the world around us. Corvus is a protector as well, of both the animal and human worlds, and will forewarn of approaching danger to avert unnecessary mishaps, as well as to affirm fortuitous opportunities, meetings or events.
Alherem of Vela, the sail of the Argo, means sanctum and sacred, or "the sanctuary." Its alternate Latin name, Peregrini, means "wanderers," as in the Argonauts. Alherem is a binary star system. The main star is a yellow-white giant, with remarkable magnetic activity. A huge solar flare emerged from it in March 1998 that brightened the star by a factor of two in ultraviolet light, and lasted for an amazing two days (Jim Kaler). Alherem impels us to use our intuitive abilities to attune to the magnetic forces and currents in nature, and those set by our intent, that coalesce events in our lives.
The essence of this zodiakal area expresses through the higher mental capacities associated with the ability to for-sense future probabilities. This prophetic ability is with specific purpose, not only for communication, but action. This is much more than receiving simple impulses of premonition, but is about how our attentiveness and experience "extends" or reaches from the past, through the present, and into the future. This implies the ability to sense future events just around the corner. The purpose of such eves-dropping into the future provides advantage in how to take appropriate action in the present so that we can prepare and steer our course "to meet" future events to come that are already precipitating from the realm of probabilities, set in motion by our past actions and experience. Thus, our Disseminating Moon impels us to be particularly attentive to messages expressing from the natural world around us, and to act knowing our actions in the present are essential in the timing of events to come.
The Moon conjoins retrograde Jupiter and Haumea the day after the Disseminating Moon, on February 15, triggering the Vesta Uranus-Eris Jupiter-Haumea T-Square as Mars makes its approach to conjoin Uranus and Eris.
The exact Saturn-Ixion conjunction also occurs on February 15, presented above in the Full Moon Eclipse section.
"Gov. Doug Burgum of North Dakota signed an emergency evacuation order on Feb. 15, reaffirming a Feb. 22 deadline for protestors to leave the Oceti Sakowin camp." This occurred after "President Donald Trump also signed executive orders during his first week in office enabling resumed construction of the Dakota Access and Keystone XL pipelines."
February 22, at 2:00PM LT, is the evacuation deadline. This is the date of the Balsamic Moon conjoining Pluto square to Mars (presented below).
The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle’s last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on February 18 in early sidereal Scorpio, lying just above and before the Scorpion's head. The Moon conjoins Alpha Centauri; Epsion and Kappa Lupus; and Alpha, Gamma and Theta Chameleon. In the northern heavens are Kornephoros of Hercules and the Great Hercules Globular Cluster M13.

Our Last Quarter Moon arouses the need to consider our environmental resonance, and perhaps to make changes in it or even to move or pilgrimage to new locations that are more harmonious for our greater wellbeing or paths in life. Trusting in opportunities presenting themselves or upon deeper intuitive feelings is important.
In our stellar image, the Centaur, lying below Libra and the Scorpion, is slaying the wild beast (Thēríon, now the Latin Lupus) with conscious deliberation in preparation for a ceremony upon Ara, the sacrificial altar. This image articulates the conscious decision and demonstrable action to sacrifice lower-order bestial or hedonist self, the egoic part of self that fights to survive. The term sacrifice, as used here, means to give up a lower office for one higher, and in this case, for a higher stage of evolution. This is about slaying that which we at one time protected, egoic self, to gain a greater freedom, illumined self. This act is prerequisite to make passage through the initiations of Scorpio to the offering upon the ceremonial altar (Ara) where this transmutation occurs. For one not on a path of self-mastery, this can also express as avoidance, contortions and squirming to get out of having to surrender lower self and to address, own up, and take responsibility for our life experience.
The Centaur is the benevolent teacher of self-mastery. To live the teachings of the Centaur and to walk the path of the soul requires we take full responsibility for our incarnational experience and master the primal forces of life. This area of sidereal Scorpio, approaching the head of the Scorpion and over the foot of the Centaur, marks the first of three initiatory phases in Scorpio. It imparts the opportunity to physically and emotionally demonstrate our choice to walk the higher path of soul, that of self-mastery and self-responsibility. It impels us to embody this capacity at an experiential-cellular level such that this action becomes unquestionably natural. The transformation occurring at this initiatory phase requires action from the interest in our greater path of self mastery in the world, otherwise it makes one seem complacent or emotionally agitated if motive to change or act is from personality interest alone. Choosing to embrace this initiatory opportunity requires an emotional maturing, to embrace the emotions we experience as our own doing, rather than blaming how we feel outside of self—a prerequisite to self-mastery.
Lupus articulates our lower-order egoic-based human mold (who we pretend to be). It is this sacrificial rite of surrendering our human mold that allows a metamorphic shift to occur where personality facade melts away and soul self emerges, which in turn makes it possible for us to claim our greater self-mastery in life and our subsequent ascension / evolutionary freedom. The Centaurian training is not merely an intellectual understanding of these principles but is learned through an experiential journey moment-by-moment that leads us to true inner wisdom and knowledge on an energetic neurological level, resulting in the inner realization that makes self-mastery of the primal forces of life actualized and right action crystal clear.
Alpha Centauri is a binary star system, with two suns in close orbit. It is known as the "Alpha Centauri AB" system. Alpha Centauri is the fourth brightest star in the sky but it is the closest star to our star system. Alpha Centauri emanates the essence of the Centaur, a wise teacher and benevolent shower of the way to self-mastery in the world. It embodies the wisdom of the Centaur and impels one to demonstrably live in mastery of self.
Although not confirmed by astronomical observation, it is believed, given the similarities to our Sun and through computer modeling, that Alpha Centauri harbors terrestrial planets, orbiting around either of its suns that compose binary Alpha Centauri, or perhaps in larger orbits around the entire binary system. It is also suggested by some astronomers that Alpha Centauri is one of the best possibilities for harboring extraterrestrial life on a potential orbiting planet.
It is proposed by some people that extraterrestrials from Alpha Centauri have already visited Earth, and more so that they are currently in our solar system's vicinity, waiting for us to be ready for open communication and co-participation. These beings are believed to be highly intelligent, spiritually mature, and hold a great love for Earth and Earth's evolving race. Perhaps when we are no longer self-quarantined from such open communion due to perpetual warring amongst our selves, our rampant governmental corruption, and the suppression of extraterrestrial-related information, we will soon graduate into galactic awareness and be able to openly participate with our extraterrestrial friends. How it must sadden them to watch such pain ensue on Earth while they have to wait for humanity to open their eyes to see.
Also conjoining from the southern heavens is the Chameleon, generally a symbol of adaptability, change and new beginnings. The Chameleon articulates the ability to adjust to any situation, but not through subservience or acquiescence, but in mastery of self and with intuitive sensitivity and individuality. For the masterful soul it imparts a capacity to morph into alternative forms—literally, as in shapeshifting. For the less mature soul, this may express as a squirming avoidance to live in one's self-mastery, merely changing colors to fit in. This is a very personal and experiential area of the zodiak regarding conscious use of our primal energy for our personal transmutation into our self-mastery.
In the far northern heavens is Kornephoros, Beta Hercules, the shoulder of Hercules, who stands upside down in the heavens with his feet (heritage) in the realm of the gods and his hands (daily work) in the realm of man. Kornephoros and conjoining stars embody our Earth bound responsibility to support others through the myriad of labors encountered on the journey to claim their evolutionary freedom.

Just north of Kornephoros is The Great Hercules Globular Cluster, M13, consisting of over a million stars. This spectacular ball of fire (the most impressive cluster in the northern skies), is a very old (soul) cluster and embodies the superhuman strength of Hercules gained from the countless experiences seemingly thrown upon the God-man’s earthly path. M13 represents our soul wisdom, amalgamated from innumerable human experiences, that becomes available to draw upon as our personal power. This radiant stellar accumulation is Hercules' strength and endurance that he offers to guide and aid others in claiming their own self-mastery—their own god-hood.
In essence, the stars of this area of the zodiak provide us the opportunity to graduate into a new level of self-realization. In this process, we become aware that we create our experience and are responsible for the life scenarios in which we find ourselves. We shift from feeling helpless, even justifying why we are entrapped as if victims of life placing blame outside of self, into a greater maturity and wisdom. We learn to express mastery over the dualistic forces that were once entrapping even destructive, living from our greater soul wisdom in unity consciousness (exemplified by Ophiuchus standing over the Scorpion). Here we are impelled to become fully self-aware and self-responsible, with the ability to use and direct the creative forces of life and define our own evolutionary destiny.
Our Last Quarter Moon truly impels "inner" need to change. Planetary cycles and the transitions occurring in those cycle driving our evolutionary currents, especially those occurring over these several years, are impelling humanity to make tremendous change. Although we must change a great deal in our outer world and in the ways we live, we must also make an inner metamorphic shift into greater self-awareness and self-mastery. Change happens from the inside out. When we shift on the inner, we can then shift our externalized experience.
Mediative and whatever other disciplines one needs to remain centered and stress-free, and healthy wholesome ways of living become more important throughout the accelerating and intensifying changes, which are sure to continue over the years ahead.
The Sun conjoins the third largest Dwarf Planet, 2007 OR10 on the South Lunar Node, on Febraury 21, ~15:30 UT (8:30 AM MST). It has yet to be named, but that may happen this year. 2007 OR10 currently conjoins Sadalmelik and Ancha of Aquarius. More about 2007 OR10.
The Balsamic Moon marks the time in lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.
The Balsamic Moon occurs on February 22 conjoining Pluto in Sagittarius. It forms a T-Square with Mars and retrograde Vesta. Mars is separating in square from Pluto, impelling Plutonian action. Conjoining stars include Deneb Al Okab (Zeta and Epsilon) Aquila and the Neutron Star SS433 of Aquila; and Sheliak and the Starseed Ring Nebula M57 of Lyra.
Sheliak of Lyra brings emphasis to paths pursued in the art-sciences applied for healing and personal evolution. Next to Sheliak lies Sulaphat the tortoise shell. Multi-spectral Sheliak embodies the science of harmonics in light and sound, and Sulaphat is of resonance in geometry and form. Between the two lies the beautiful Ring Nebula of Lyra, M57, expressing resonances that transcend all humanoid races for the evolutionary fulfillment of the soul.
Deneb Al Okab (Zeta Aquila) meaning the Eagle's Tail, composed of Zeta Aquila and Epsilon Aquila, although often depicted as the wingtip of the Eagle, with Lambda marking the tail. Zeta Aquila is brighter than Epsilon and is the third brightest star in Aquila, next to Altair, Eye of the Eagle, and Tarazed, Altair's companion. Zeta Aquila, the principal star here, shines with the brightness of 39 of our suns and has an amazing rotational speed, 165 times the equatorial speed of our Sun—that is a rotational speed of about 16 hours. In character with the constellation, Zeta imparts a commanding character (in contrast to demanding), with the ability to rapidly respond to challenging situations.
Conjoining Zeta Aquila is SS433, an exotic and dynamic binary star system emitting twin-corkscrew shaped jets in wavelengths ranging from the optical to the X-ray. A companion star is feeding the collapsed neutron star's accretion disc (shown in the illustration). A neutron star is a super-dense nucleus of a collapsed star.

SS433’s primary characteristic is that it produces a dynamic and rapidly evolving expression that extends over the entire light spectrum, thus embracing all aspects of life, from the most primal to the most spiritual. It also has a consuming aspect to it, consuming life itself without hesitancy and without prejudice or discrimination.
Both the qualities of rapidly rotating Deneb Al Okab (Zeta) and SS433 are fitting with the Eagle’s totem. The Eagle, a lone bird, has the ability to rapidly remove itself to vast distances and height to gain an embracing perceptual (global) awareness, and then to steer itself with amazing speed and grace to snatch its target. Both the wing tip and tail of the Eagle articulate the need to mobilize and steer our intent to achieve our higher aspirations.
Generally a Moon Pluto conjunction is passionate, dramatic and intense, and it impels us to delve into our darker emotions without fear to claim our inner power, sort of like being on a vision quest. Here in late Sag, under the auspices of Lyra and Aquila it brings a sense of acceleration and inspires expression through the art-sciences and multi-media that serve to illumine, heal and elevate human consciousness and the human condition. It impels an acceleration to dismantle and discard that which impedes required change, both globally and personally. It also brings inspiration to become fully and harmoniously resonant to our spiritual truth, highest ideals and creative visions.
Vesta's retrograde conjoining the heads of the Gemini Twins is about getting clear and redefining our focus, dedication and commitment in the world of business and commerce, and amongst relationships or all types, from those personal to those international. The T-Square brings a focus to Mars conjoining Revati in Pisces, bringing attention to the use and expression of our creative impetus, and to money and resources, to make our dreams real. The Mars-Pluto square, however, can manifest as a forceful use of power or to impel action to dismantle.
Our Balsamic Moon coalesces into essence the experience of this lunar cycle, which becomes the seed to express anew in the following lunar cycle. It brings emphasis to an acceleration of global related issues regarding the use of power and resources in the world, and to the use of our personal creative power to lift ourselves to embrace and live our higher ideals in life. One key theme here, regarding a seed being sown to emerge on the New Moon eclipse, is that of acceleration, of changes begining to move faster than one thought possible.
Jupiter makes it second exact opposition to Eris, an hour after the Balsamic Moon, as the Moon triggers the event, making a brief but one final Grand Square in this lunar cycle.
The following New Moon occurs on February 26 amongst the stars of Aquarius, producing an Annular Eclipse. Mars makes its dynamic and potent conjunction with Uranus just hours later. More to come then.
