Decisive Action
The Resonance of Our Relationships

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

Astronomical Myth is a "picture language," imagery that articulates the qualities of cosmic intelligence expressing throughout the greater heavens and through our lives. We are not separate from the greater heavens, from the stars and planets around us, or from our beloved Earth, but are intimate parts of this dynamic, continually unfolding heavenly symphony. This entirety is our cosmic consciousness, the totality of our being. To explore the greater heavens and the heavenly cycles is to explore that which we are—our embracing consciousness and our spiritual evolution.

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

The purpose of the Lunar Planner is to learn to live in the experiential awareness of the present. Although the material below can provide philosophical context for your personal experience, the New Moon is the ideal time to experientially "tune in" to get your personalized lunar month's theme. Then, consciously participate with the changing Lunar Phase Characteristics in the unfoldment of that theme in your daily life using the Lunar Calendar and Lunar Planner Introduction (links at the bottom).

About Synodic Cycles

Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution as a collective.

Surrender & Play

The end of this phase is also the end of the entire Lunar Cycle. It leads into the next New Moon. The day before the New Moon is a time to surrender in order to allow the next Lunar Theme to sprout in its purity. Let go of all fears, worries, and self-judgment. Become empty. This is a great time to just play and have fun.

Expressing a New Theme

A new theme emerges. A new idea, a new concept sprouts forth. This is an inner message, an impulse expressing from a field of all possibilities deep within the unconscious mind. Often this process is one of discovery, slowly revealing a simple theme over a day or two, or it may be quite clear and specific, a spontaneous message, even suggesting a major life change. The New Moon is a perfect time for meditation or a quite walk—to go within self and listen. A simple word or phrase may pop into your mind during this quite time describing the new lunar theme in a way that is unique to you, or perhaps a simple feeling or knowing will come over you. The ability to listen, honor and trust the inner is all that is required at this time. The ideal time to attune to your New Moon theme is exactly as the New Moon occurs, or at sunrise after the New Moon if the New Moon occurred during the night.
First Sliver
Another time to realize the opportunity for growth this lunar cycle offers is when you can see the first sliver of the Moon at sunset in the western sky. Empty your mind while looking at the Moon and allow whatever thought or impulse to surface.

The New Moon

The Foot of Castor

The Foot of Castor
"IC433 is a supernova remnant of a star that exploded about 35000 years ago. It is located approx. 5000 light years away. To the left is IC444, a large emission nebula, which also contains a small reflection nebula (the small bluish patch in the upper middle). The two bright stars are Eta and Mu of Gemini." Eta and Mu are less than 2° apart. Image Credit: NASA Hubble Space Telescope

This June 24, 2017 New Moon lies just past the "Gate of Man" of Earth's Precessional Cross. It conjoins the stars forming the Foot of Castor of the Gemini Twins. The New Moon also conjoins Mercury (3° orb), which lies slightly north of Castor's foot. Mercury is at home in Gemini and thus is empowered and expresses clearly and confidently. Mercury's transit through Gemini heightens all Mercurial processes, such as communication and language skills. It brings clarity of mind and promotes rational thinking. It accentuates all neurological and intellectual processes.

Mercury imparts an expressive and intellectual force. It drives our need to organize, rationalize, categorize, and assemble our world into a coherent understanding. It is the significator of the intellect. Mercury governs our sequential and logistical processes, our learning and reasoning abilities, our mental focus and capacity to concentrate, our language, reading, writing, and communication skills, how we speak and articulate. Mercury's astrophysical resonance effects some motor skills associated with coordination and dexterity and governs our neurological system.

New Moon Star Chart

Mercury plays a significant role throughout the first half of this lunar cycle as it makes passage through the stars of Gemini. Mercury will also make its opposition to the Juno-Chariklo conjunction occurring in Sagittarius just after the New Moon, on June 26, and then to Pluto. Mercury and Mars conjoin on June 28, conjoining Sirius and Canopus—an event stimulating alignment. Mars also makes its opposition to the Juno-Chariklo conjunction, moments before the New Moon, and then makes its opposition to Pluto on July 2, just after the First Quarter Moon's stimulus to action. This also occurs as the Sun, Earth, Juno and Chariklo alignment occurs, a exceptionally significant pivotal point in the Juno-Chariklo synchronous retrogrades occurring throughout 2017, marking a significant turning for relationships of all types. More on this is presented below.

The Gemini Twins are marked by the two principal stars, Pollux, the immortal extraterrestrial one, and Castor the mortal terrestrial one, the extraterrestrial incarnate. These two stars, which mark the Twins' heads, lie in the last few degrees of sidereal Gemini. The Twins stand upon the galactic equator at a 60° angle to the ecliptic plane, with the "Feet of the Twins" lying in earlier Gemini, upon the "Gate of Man." Thus, Gemini is a galactic constellation and an ecliptical constellation, which inspires the expression of soul purpose through the daily activity of humankind—the theme of the Gate of Man. Sidereal Gemini is of high intensity intellectual communication, information, commerce, goods and services, and of their exchange. The Twins are of partnerships in mutual cooperation, linking and uniting efforts through their daily affairs in the world. The Twins work hand-in-hand for the betterment and evolutionary fulfillment of humankind.

Although the Twins (Castor and Pollux) are of communication and human betterment, they have in some legend been at odds with each other, a bit argumentative. Here is the Gemini trait of competitiveness, debate, arbitration, and negotiation, but ultimately leading to agreement and solution. The theme of the Twins was also expressed by Romulus and Remus, founders of Rome, the immortal and mortal sons in Greek mythology, who were, along with Hercules, amongst the crew of the Argo.

The foot of Castor is composed of Propus (Tejat Prior, Eta Gemini), Tejat Posterior (Mu Gemini), and the large emission nebula IC444 along with the supernova remnant IC433.

Tejat portends eminence and renown, and will make visible that which has been suppressed, oppressed, hidden in the closet, but destined to be seen. Tejat impels us to come out of hiding, to become visible, to stand forth in the limelight, and to become available and shareable. This can also indicate the need to emerge from our own mental obscurations, procrastinations or illusions. It impels decisive action. The foot of Castor impels demonstrable action to claim our roles in the physical world, to show up and participate, to take the immediate steps at hand in our everyday lives that are required for what we truly want in our lives. Tejat can also indicate those who are physically marked in some way, including birthmarks, genetic marks, or other unique features or adornments.

As Tejat brings to the surface that which has been suppressed, we may see parts of our selves that seem rather dark and opposing to our emergence—the fears, hesitancies, and blockages within our selves that we must step through into our optimal expressions in life. These stars invite us to be willing to walk through the shadows of self to claim our power and place in the physical world, to express the fullness of who we are openly in the world.

This lunar cycle impels us to communicate, connect and involve, to become shareable from a truer, open-hearted and more self-aware level of consciousness in our daily activity amongst humankind, especially in our personal, domestic and international relations. It impels us to take the practical steps at hand, those simple actions right in front of us that lead to our empowerment in life and our place in the world. It is a time to make decisions, to leave procrastination behind. Our Mercury New Moon at the Foot of Castor creates a fresh and exploratory energetic, one that is self-centric and sagacious in dealings with people, and is very goal oriented. Castor has a more boisterous opinionated activist nature than Pollux, and here in early sidereal Gemini, at the foot of Castor, Mercury prominently arouses this nature, riling things up in sense, but with intent to create progressive change from a righteous and moralistic perspective.

Releasing Restricting Patterns

Just prior to the first Crescent Moon, we can realize the opportunity for growth that the Lunar Cycle has to offer. What surfaces now is: How I would have done this in the past, the old or established ways, based on past experience. Here we have the opportunity to let go of any limiting or restricting thought patterns, much like sluffing off the protective sheath of a seed now beginning to sprout, as that sheath would only limit the unfoldment of the new theme and our own growth. The Crescent Moon marks the time when the theme would like to grow into a more expansive form. By consciously honoring, accepting in love, and letting go of our old concepts, we allow ourselves to move forth into the expansive growing phase of the Lunar Cycle.

Expanding upon the Theme

This is a time when the currently held vision begins to expand into a greater form. New possibilities of unfoldment would like to grow—possibilities not realized before. This 3 1/2 day Growing Phase is a time of engaging our creativity and integrating it with the original theme, identifying its unique and full potential. It is a time of allowing a realistic and achievable plan of action to evolve, a time of inspiration, and a time to have faith in our creative process.

The Crescent Moon
Expanding on the Theme

Crescent Moon

The hours before the Crescent Moon provide a time when we relinquish patterns of the past that would limit our creative ability to expand on the lunar theme now unfolding. The Crescent Moon is the time when the sprouting seedling sloughs off its protective coat of the past and emerges in a new expression. As the Crescent Moon unfolds, the growing phase of the lunar cycle begins as we start to amalgamate our personal creativite vision with the original lunar theme. The Crescent Moon brings insight to see how the New Moon theme will express and the opportunity for growth it provides.

The Crescent Moon occurs on June 27 exactly conjoining Vesta. Although in late sidereal Cancer they lie under the auspices of the Head of the Lion. Conjoining stars include Algenubi and Rasalas of Leo, and Tania of the Great Bear.

Vesta is the asteroid of focus, dedication and commitment; of physical, emotional, and mental clarity; and of self-respect. Vesta brings a capacity to be pure within self at all levels for the expression of one’s highest potential and true Essence. Vesta is of strength, purity, and perfection—of total dedication to purpose. Vesta brings attention to that which is of true importance to us and will ignite and burn away that which is not so we can become clear. Vesta is keeper of the sacred flame within self. Vesta asks us to examine our inner values, our passion in life, to become clear on them, and to use our creativity to keep that fire alive. More about Vesta.

Vesta's largest mountain in Rheasilvia Crater.

One of the largest mountains in the solar system resides in Vesta's southern hemisphere. The mountain at the center of the largest south pole crater, Rheasilvia, is close to four times larger than Earth's largest mountain, the island of Hawaii (measured from the ocean floor), two and a half times higher than Mount Everest. The crater is named after Rhea Silvia, a priestess of Vesta in Alba Longa, Italy, who was the mother of Romulus and Remus, the founders of Rome.

This area of sidereal Cancer is quite different than earlier and mid-Cancer. It is past the stars of Cancer proper. This is where we are impelled to break away from the safety and security of the family nest, and away from the belief structures and dogmas past on. Here, under dominion of the Lion's head, we are impelled to break new trail, to explore and discover.

Leo and Cancer star chart.

Algenubi, Eye of the Lion, brings inspiration to look beyond what we currently experience into new, remote or other realms, to break trail into new vistas of experience. Rasalas, the crown, inspires extraordinary accomplishment in this pursuit. These are stars of visionaries, explorers, pioneers, and adventurers with little interest or contentment to merely fit in with those performing on the worldly stage. These people seek to go beyond the norm in accomplishment. They are undaunted in the face of perilous explorations and are proud to demonstrate it. These are trailblazers, those willing to leave the comfort of mass-consensus, who are self-reliant to step forth into unexplored territory, the ones who seek a better way to live and are able to envision new horizons, those who seek to discover new possibilities waiting to be realized.

Conjoining Algenubi is one of the Brightest Quasars 3C232, lying a bit north over the Eye of the Lion. It was first discovered as a hypervelocity star, an outcast flung away while trying to approach Galactic Center, now speeding away at over 1.5 million miles per hour. Quasar 3C232 inspires vision to imagine new possibilities yet to become. It brings inspiration to leave the comforts of our existing reality behind and to leap into the void. It accelerates our enthusiasm to surge into entirely new directions beyond what is known.

Also conjoining from the north is the hind-foot of the Great Bear, composed of Tania Bor. and Tania Aus., which imparts a strong sense of the power of conviction, a confidence that propels us beyond our current accepted stance in life, a strength to believe in self and in a prosperous future.

Our Vesta-Crescent Moon inspires self-confident artistic creative self-expression, to apply our focus toward self-discovery and new experience, to venture into unexplored territory with trust. It also impels us to clarify our values and what is important to ourselves, and to emerge from any sense of scatteredness or indecision we may have.

External Stimulus

Just before first-quarter moon, we draw an external stimulus to ourselves. This is some event outside of self occurring in our lives or in the world that impels a challenge to act on the creative ideas we have been evolving. The external stimulus provides the impetus to move forth from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. This is a time when any fears or doubts hidden within may surface to be embraced. To move forward through the I can'ts and the reasons why not is to move through our own limitations into a new level of self-empowerment. Not stepping into action results in opportunity lost and no growth. Many people drop the ball at this point in the lunar cycle. Don't be one.

Initiate Action

Now is the time to drop all hesitation and take the steps to move forth on what you were inspired about. The inspiration is now gone, it is time to now participate in trust and knowing. Remember, the flower that is about to burst forth from the bud is not yet visible. Trust in the process. Demonstrate this trust in physical action and you will be supported. The creative tension brought forth by the external stimulus now shifts into opportunity and unfoldment. This is a time for practical application of your talents. This time is stressful or traumatic only if action is ignored. What you are putting together now is the groundwork for the manifestation of the theme. Simply, this phase is a time to work.

First Quarter Moon
Initiate Action

First Quarter Moon

The First Quarter Moon of each lunar cycle draws an external stimulus to initiate action as we move from the inspirational quarter of the lunar cycle into the action quarter. Our First Quarter Moon occurs on July 1 UT (June 30 MST) in mid-sidereal Virgo. The Moon conjoins Vindemiatrix and Porrima of Virgo, Diadem of Coma Berenices, Gienah of Corvus, and Alherem of Vela, Argo Navis.

First Quarter Moon Sidereal Astrology Chart

Vindemiatrix and Porrima mark the centre of sidereal Virgo and embody the essence of sidereal Virgo. Slightly past but between the two is Auva. This is also the exalted seat for our winged messenger Mercury, significantly adding perspective and understanding to the nature of the stars at this ecliptical longitude. Mercury is the vessel by which these stars function in their highest expression, that is, through the neurology of communication and logistics, and all that Mercury characterizes.

The Moon's placement at the exalted location for Mercury creates a resonance with Mercury, which just conjoined Mars in mid-Gemini on June 28. Mercury, just past Mars, and having made its opposition to Pluto, now conjoins Castor of the Twins. It will conjoin Pollux on July 2, which marks the end of sidereal Gemini, and Mercury passage through the sidereal sign of Gemini.

Porrima, just two degrees north of the ecliptic expresses through the more transcendent nature of the mind—our higher brain centers that activate a greater perceptual capacity, often associated with clairvoyance and telepathy. Porrima impels us to have foresight to see future or remote probabilities. Vindemiatrix, just north of Porrima, classically the Harvester, indicates the time is at hand, that it is in the timing. "This star is said to confer great powers of thought and an exacting, severe nature" (friend and siderealist Andrés Takra).

Coma Berenices (Berenice's hair) stands alone in this area of the heavens, slightly north of and over early sidereal Virgo. Diadem of Coma Berenices is the jeweled crown lying just north of the Virgin's head. Ornate Crowns in antiquity were designed with specific metals, jewels, and geometries to accentuate the wearer's telepathic and clairvoyant capacities, and for their communion with transcendent realms of consciousness. Diadem impels us to attune to, trust in, and to follow our spiritual / soul guidance.

Virgo and Crater star chart.

South of Vindemiatrix and Porrima is Corvus the Raven, the messenger bird. Corvus is of high intelligence, ingenuity, imagination, insight and adaptability. The brains of Ravens are among the largest of any bird species. They are problem solvers, inventors and are highly opportunistic. Corvus is the keeper of secrets and a knowledge holder, but is also a prophetic revealer—the oracular "raven messenger bird" to those who are so attuned, and who ask and listen. Corvus implores us to pay astute attention to the signs or messages naturally expressing through the world around us moment-by-moment and to adapt accordingly. The signs found in the simplest of life experience can have meaning if we are willing to be attentive to them. In fact, we can even ask to receive guidance, or information about future or remote events, simply by briefly holding the intent to inquire and then letting it go and listen. It is the sincere projection of clear intent that vibrationally elicits a response from the world around us. Corvus is a protector as well, of both the animal and human worlds, and will forewarn of approaching danger to avert unnecessary mishaps, as well as to affirm fortuitous opportunities, meetings or events.

Conjoining from the southern heavens is Alherem of Vela, the sail of the Argo. Alherem means sanctum and sacred, or the sanctuary. Its alternate Latin name, Peregrini, means wanderers, as in the Argonauts' journey in search of the golden fleece. "Alherem is a binary star system. The main star is a yellow-white giant, with remarkable magnetic activity. A huge solar flare emerged from it in March 1998 that brightened the star by a factor of two in ultraviolet light, and lasted for an amazing two days." (Jim Kaler, Professor Emeritus of Astronomy, University of Illinois). Alherem impels us to refine our intuitive abilities to attune to the subtle magnetic forces and currents in nature, those steered by our intent, that coalesce events in our lives.

Our First Quarter Moon at this zodiakal area, comprised by all of these conjoining entities, expresses through the higher mental capacities associated with the ability to for-sense future probabilities. This prophetic ability is with specific purpose, not only for communication, but action. This is much more than receiving simple impulses of premonition, and is not only associated with ill-fated events, but is about how our attentiveness and experience extends or reaches from the past, through the present, and into the future. This implies the ability to sense future events just around the corner. The purpose of such eves-dropping into the future provides advantage in how to take appropriate action in the present so that we can prepare and steer our course to meet future events to come that are already precipitating from the realm of probabilities, which were set in motion by our past actions and steered by our intent. Our First Quarter Moon's stimulus to action impels us to be especially astute to and to trust in the signs and messages expressing in the everyday affairs of our lives. This is palpable guidance, which is continually around us, moment to moment, expressing through everything, even the simple things occurring in our lives.

Chiron, in early sidereal Pisces, also begins its retrograde on the First quarter Moon.

Juno & Chariklo

Juno and Chariklo made their exact conjunction just after the Crescent Moon, the second of three conjunctions, this one occurring during their retrogrades. Now, on July 2-3, the Sun-Earth-Juno-Chariklo alignment occurs.

2017 Juno-Chariklo retrogrades in Sagittarius

Juno is the asteroid of covenants in relationships, mutual compatibility and is about the nature of the relationships we desire and draw to ourselves. Chariklo (pronounced Kha'riklo) is the largest of the Centaurs, named after the nymph Chariklo from Mount Pelion in Greece, Chiron's wife. Chariklo inspires us to create an environmental resonance, a vibrational space, that encourages the manifestation and expression of the uniqueness and full potential of those we care for. Juno and Chariklo are in the midst of their synchronous retrogrades, an exceptionally rare occurrence. Their retrogrades occur amongst the higher-ideal stars of the Zen Archer, which inspire us to seek and attain our higher aspirations, our optimal human potential and unified awareness. This entire period impels a deep introspective process to reassess and redefine our relations and how we interrelate while bringing emphasis to if and how the energetic resonances we create in our relationships truly support the manifestation of our greatest potential as individuals and that of our relationships.

The alignments occurring now mark the pivotal transition point in this process. Occurring in our Mercury-empowered Gemini lunar cycle, this pivotal transition is an ideal time to make definitive decisions regarding how we interrelate at a personal level and, more importantly, about the nature of the resonance we wish to have in our relationships, as the vibrational resonance we mold is either nourishing or it is not to our greater wellbeing, our higher ideals and our longer-term goals.

This planetary alignment marks not only the start of new Earth-Juno and Earth-Chariklo cycles, but also the start of the new Juno-Chariklo 4.7-year cycle, which continues through March 2022. (The Juno-Chariklo synod occurs on July 7, slightly after their synods with Earth.) Although Juno-Chariklo conjunctions and cycles occur every several years, this one is exceptionally unique due to the exact alignment of their retrogrades (their mutual alignment with Earth). The next time Juno and Chariklo conjoin while retrograde does not occur until 2054, and it does not occur in perfect alignment with Earth as it does now.

A more in-depth exploration of the Juno-Chariklo synthesis is presented in the article: Juno & Chariklo 2017: The Resonance of Our Relationships.

This phase brings a strong desire to connect and involve with others. The outer and opposite is alluring. It is a time of exploration and involvement with others. Flowers not only blossom to reveal their beauty, but their functional purpose is to provide the pollination required to bear fruit. This interaction brings clarity of purpose and builds into the enthusiastic energy required for fulfillment. Communication and intermixing of energies is highlighted. The purpose is to be of value to each other, stimulating creativity. Share your vision and direction, what you have been working on. The 3 1/2-day Pollinating Phase is a social time, which will culminate on the Full Moon.

The Gibbous Moon
Attraction & Involvement

Gibbous Moon

The 24-hour period just before the Gibbous Moon is a time of perseverance, of pushing through in the midst of the action quarter of the lunar cycle. The Gibbous Moon is when the pressure releases and we enter the Pollinating Phase of the lunar cycle, which begins a social and communicative time of magnetic attraction.

The Gibbous Moon of July 5 UT (July 4 MST) lies in early sidereal Scorpio, approaching the head of the Scorpion. The Moon conjoins Alpha Centauri, and several other minor stars including Zuben Hakrabi on the claw of the Scorpion, Eta Hercules, Delta Lupus, and Alpha Chameleon. Also conjoining is the Circinus Spiral Galaxy.

Early sidereal Scorpio teaches us how to graduate from the clutches of the Scorpion, that is, from falling prey as victims to the entrapping forces around us, fighting in struggle to live, and to realize that we experience a wide dynamic of forces that mold our experience; and that it is up to us to claim our mastery in the midst of these forces.

The Circini Spiral Galaxy.

The first few degrees of sidereal Scorpio, approaching the head of the Scorpion, resides in the domain the Centaur. The benevolent and wise Centaurians are teachers, leaders back to the original cardinal virtues embodied by the Southern Cross, which the Centaur stands over and protects. The benevolent Centaur teaches the right way to live to attain our self-mastery in the physical world and to subsequently claim our evolutionary freedom from entrapment in the karmic-based reincarnational process of soul growth.

The image here is of the Centaur placing Lupus the beast on the Centaur's Altar (Ara) in a transmutational ceremony. Lupus articulates our lower-order egoic-based human mold (who we pretend to be). It is this sacrificial rite of surrendering our human mold to claim our greater self-mastery in life and our subsequent ascension / evolutionary freedom.

The Centaurian training is not merely an intellectual understanding of these principles but is learned through an experiential journey moment-by-moment that leads us to true inner wisdom and knowledge on an energetic neurological level, resulting in the inner realization that makes self-mastery of the primal forces of life actualized and right action crystal clear.

Alpha Centauri is a binary star system, with two suns in close orbit. It is known as the “Alpha Centauri AB” system. Alpha Centauri is the fourth brightest star in the sky but it is the closest star to our star system. Alpha Centauri emanates the essence of the Centaur, a wise teacher and benevolent shower of the way to self-mastery in the world. It embodies the wisdom of the Centaur and impels us to demonstrably live in mastery of self.

Conjoining from the southern heavens is the Chameleon, generally a symbol of adaptability, change and new beginnings. The Chameleon articulates the ability to adjust to any situation, but not through subservience, acquiescence or avoidance, but in mastery of self and with intuitive sensitivity and individuality.

Our Gibbous Moon turns our attention toward the opportunity to graduate into a new level of self-realization. In this process, we become aware that we create our experience and are responsible for the life scenarios in which we find ourselves. We shift from feeling helpless, even justifying why we are entrapped as if victims of life placing blame outside of self, into a greater maturity and wisdom. We learn to express mastery over the dualistic forces that were once entrapping even destructive, living from our greater soul wisdom in unity consciousness (exemplified by Ophiuchus standing over the Scorpion). Our Gibbous Moon impels us to become self-aware and self-responsible, with the ability to use and direct the creative forces of life to define our own evolutionary destiny.

The Moon, Juno and Chariklo

The Moon conjoins Juno and Chariklo on July 7, just as the new Juno-Chariklo 4.7-year cycle begins (the Sun-Juno-Chariklo alignment). This is a good example of how cross-resonances occur between heliocentric and geocentric alignments. The Moon grounds this event into our palpable realm of experience.

Relax and allow this realization to occur. There is no need to force it as it surfaces on its own.

The Full Moon
Vision, Enthusiasm, & Realization of the Theme

Full Moon

The Full Moon marks the culmination point in the lunar cycle, the climax, the point of excitement and celebration. The hours leading up to the Full Moon provide a time of "vision and enthusiasm." The time just after Full Moon is a one of "realization of the lunar month's theme," a time to kick back and relax, to allow our realizations to surface in consciousness.

This Full Moon occurs on July 9 UT (July 8 MST) conjoining retrograde Pluto by 1° in sidereal Sagittarius. The exact Sun-Pluto opposition occurs 24 hours later, initiating the new annual Earth-Pluto synodic cycle. Pluto's retrograde offers a time for inner reflection upon Pluto related issues, and is a time of shifting from the previous Earth-Pluto cycle into the next. Pluto completes its retrograde on September 28, 2017.

Pluto's Makeover

Pluto's True Colors.

Pluto's True Colors - Image by NASA New Horizons Spacecraft

At one time, Pluto was thought to be the planet that ended the limits of our solar system. It was also consider the planet that marked the end of life, with astrologers associating it death and destruction, and something malefic to abhor. We now know this is not the case, both astronomically and astrologically. With the discovery of Eris and subsequently many more planets in orbits beyond Pluto, we are invited to explore and embody realms of consciousness far more transcendent to that of Pluto—while we are alive. So although Pluto was reclassified, some say demoted, to the Dwarf Planet category, in reality Pluto was elevated in stature, to be recognized not as a planet merely delineating endings and death, but as a gatekeeper and escort into deeper levels of self-empowerment. Pluto maintains its eminence associated with nuclear power, but he implores us to realize this nucleus of power is within self, rather than it being something to acquire through dominance and control over others or resources, or worse yet by judging and condemning others. Until realized, Pluto will continue to deconstruct immature and self-destructive behavioral patterns and attitudes that limit us from awakening to the power within. Pluto teaches us to look within self, rather than outside of self, to find our nuclear core of creative force. Pluto then teaches us to demonstrate the use of that force in ways that empower others and that awaken ourselves to new vistas of human potential, conscious awareness and experience waiting to be realized. More about Pluto.

Alrami and Arkab embody the foundation and essence of the Zen Archer. Arkab, on the calf muscle of leg, inspires action on our greater spiritual truth, a truth upheld and fought for by the Zen Archer. Arkab supports us to energetically take action upon the myriad of opportunities leading to the fulfillment of our souls. Alrami, the knee of the archer, indicates the spiritual transmutation made possible by such demonstrable action; the ability to fearlessly embrace transformation—to relinquish an old mold of self and allow empowered self to emerge.

Albaldah, the "bright one" on the head of the Zen Archer articulates his wisdom and light. Albaldah conjoins Alrami and Arkab, and also expresses through Nunki. Albaldah, along with all of these stars, and those of northern Lyra, impel us to bring forth a new ideal of awareness of self as a creative force in the world. Albaldah inspires us to make intentional choices from this higher realm of self that is already full and radiantly expressive to bring about change in our daily lives, rather than from a place of lack, from what we are not or do not have. Choosing action based from the fullness of higher self, soul level self, is to create that which is for our highest good and the expression of our greatest potential.

Pluto-Full Moon star chart

The stars of Lyra lie in the northern heavens north of Aquila over late sidereal Sagittarius. They contribute significantly to formulate the lofty ideals the Zen Archer pursues. Lyra is the lyre of Hermes passed on to Apollo, who is generally shown playing the lyre in classical art.

Apollo was the ideal of male beauty, bringing the beneficence of eloquence and sensibility to humankind. Apollo was knowledgeable in medicine, music, poetry, and archery, and was caregiver for the flocks and herds. Shrines to Apollo can be found on the island of Delos in the Aegean Sea's Cyclades archipelago. Apollo was also the father of Asklepios (Ophiuchus) knowledge holder of advanced healing processes and ascension directives beyond the cycle of life and death. The Sanctuary of Asklepios at Epidauros (where he was born) was the most celebrated healing center of the ancient world, sacred to the Asklepieion, the followers and students of Asklepios.

The lyre had the qualities to invoke and communicate the messages of the gods. As the harp of the angelic messengers, its tuning and voice translate divine information into vibration that supports healing and the illumination of consciousness. The stars of Lyra embody various facets of the artsciences of harmonics in light, sound, color, and geometry, particularly the wisdom of those artsciences applied for the elevation of human consciousness. They inspire multi-dimensional vision, artistic creativity and involvement with the artsciences applied through multi-media, the healing arts, and higher education.

Our Full Moon culminates and brings realization to the essence of our Gemini-Tejat lunar cycle. It also articulates the theme of the new Pluto synodic cycle. Like all slower moving planets, Pluto synods progress very slightly though the ecliptic, by about 2°, thus its synodic themes shift slightly from one to the next. This cycle is similar to the last, however, Pluto is now approaching an area of Sagittarius where the energy begins to accelerate. We will experience this more so in 2018 and in the Pluto cycles to follow. Pluto is also approaching its South Node, now just 2.5° away, which also intensifies its resonance with Earth's.

Our Pluto Full Moon emphasizes that the manifestation of a new world paradigm is not something that occurs out side of self, as if it is something we are waiting for, but is about bringing forth a new level of self awareness and realizing our inner creative power that will birth a new paradigm. Pluto relentlessly strips away behavioral patterns that keep us from living true to that which we are and have come here on Earth to be, and it impels us to intentionally act from this higher realm of self to manifest this soul-awareness in our lives and a unified consciousness in the world. Pluto's passage through this part of the heavens emphasizes the transformation of the use of power to elevate the human condition, and this brings realization to the essence of this lunar month.

Manifesting and expressing our greater potential is about taking the immediate steps at hand in our everyday lives (Tejat) to address the things we need to address, what is right in front of us, those pending little things we may procrastinate about, to become free and empowered in the present, one step at a time, one day at a time, one lunar cycle at time.

The latter part of this phase shifts rapidly. A sense of urgency is felt. It is a time to bring forth the fruits of our actions. On the day before the Disseminating Moon, it is as if there is more to do than there is time for. It is a time of much commotion with last minute details seeming to appear from nowhere. Keep cool and accelerate, making those last-minute preparations. A birthing is at hand.

This is a time for the fruits of our labors to manifest and for lessons to become tangible. Whether the fruit of this cycle is in the form of inner growth or outer manifestation, it is that which will support the true nourishment of ourselves and others. Share your fruit. This is a time to give forth that which was learned or created, and to receive the same from others. Demonstrable expression and the imparting of our gifts anchors into the structure of our consciousness the self-empowerment gained from this Lunar Cycle.

The Disseminating Moon
Manifestation & Demonstration

Disseminating Moon

The hours leading up to the Disseminating Moon generally is an accelerated and busy time of last minute preparation that leads into the birth point in the lunar cycle, the time of bearing the fruit of the cycle, of claiming its gift, of living that which we have been learning.

The Disseminating Moon occurs on July 13 UT (July 12 MST) in Aquarius, conjoining and nesting between the Dwarf Planet OR10 and the Centaur Nessus. The Moon conjoins Sadachbia of Aquarius and Deneb of northern Cygnus.

Cygnus star chart.

Lying in the northern heavens upon the galactic equator we find Cygnus the Swan, also called the Northern Galactic Cross. Deneb, tail of the swan, is the principal star of Cygnus and marks the top (head) of the cross. Deneb, a star more than a hundred times the diameter of our Sun, with a very high luminosity, governs the first of the seven heavens (evolutionary epochs) in the Earth's precessional cycle. It is the overseeing star of Aquarius. Deneb embodies our unadulterated androgynous pure soul essence before fragmentation into race, sex, or creed. Deneb inspires us to stand in the awareness of our pure soul essence, in this wholeness and to participate from the maturity of unity consciousness, unbiased and beyond the segregations and categorizations common to modern day mass-consciousness.

Aquarius, the humanitarian waterbearer, nourishes the body of humanity. Aquarius embodies a future-oriented vision for an evolved humanitarian-based society and the essence of philanthropy. Aquarius is altruistic and inspires new ideas, technologies and pursuits in the art-sciences and in social issues of the world. It is of the flow of resources within that populous that creates a wholesome human condition.

Sadachbia, Gamma Aquarius, is the lucky star of hidden things and hiding places. Sadachbia along with Seat (Pi), Eta, and the White Jewels (Zeta 1 and Zeta 2) of Aquarius form the Urn of Aquarius. Sadachbia is of serendipitous discovery, that is, being in the right place at the right time to discover, receive or bestow a physical gift of extreme value. It is a star of success in enterprises pursued. All of these stars impel an altruistic and humanitarian expression.

Also conjoining Sadachbia are Beta and Gamma of Sculptor, lying in the southern heavens. Sculptor influences the entire second half of sidereal Aquarius and early Pisces. Sculptor, referring to a sculptor's studio, articulates the environments and resources that make possible the arts and sciences, those that support humanity, as well as sculpting a beautiful and bountiful human society, both physically and spiritually. Sculpting the arts and sciences is a principal facet of the Aquarian energetic.

Our Disseminating Moon brings our attention to the needs of humanity and human society. It emphasizes altruism and humanitarian efforts to evolve the human condition spiritually and physically. It is favorable for pursuits in philosophy and the arts and sciences, those that support progressive movement, flow and change, that tend to equalize and dissolve boundaries, and that help to sculpt a beautiful and bountiful human society. It especially impels the bestowal of gifts and resources that serve the fundamental nourishment and betterment of others, and that support their pursuits to have a fuller and more meaningful life.

It may also bring emphasis to abusive behavior due to the awry us of power in society and the resultant unjust conditions many have come normalize, with impetus to take responsibility to change those conditions and more so their underlying cause.

Inner Need

This phase completes with our Inner Needs surfacing to consciousness, to become aware of what is important to self and what is not. A sense of completion comes forth with a recognition that the past scenario has served its purpose and it is time to leave what is antiquated behind. Essentially a lesser self is what we will be shedding. Acknowledging the needs we feel surfacing on the inner is essential to create the changes in our lives on the outer. This inner recognition provides the challenge to do so. There is impetus to withdraw from the activity of this entire cycle, to emerge from the stage setting that served our intended growth. Remember that others are having their inner needs as well! Demanding others change is not the solution to our well being. This is a good day for quite time. Allowing mutual space and sharing our realizations with mutual respect supports all parties.

Initiate Change

It is now time to plow under the crops so they may become the fertilizer for the next cycle. It is time to let go of any vested interest or attachment to the experience of the Lunar Cycle and to the stage props that served our growth. This is a transformational time, a time for personal change. Step forth from old facades, and free yourself from past ways of participating in life. This is a time of departure, of walking away from that which is no longer nourishing and to prepare the soil of our lives for that which is. Knowing now what our Truth is, it is time to consciously live it. Doing so provides a choice for others to also live theirs. Not making the realized changes keeps ourselves bound in a circle of old patterns of growth; changing allows us to spiral to a new octave of experience—one that will eventually sprout in the next lunar cycle to come.

Last Quarter Moon
Time for Change

Last Quarter Moon

The Last Quarter Moon creates our "inner need to initiate change" in the lunar cycle as we move into the cycle’s last and transitional quarter. Our Last Quarter Moon occurs on July 16 conjoining stationing Eris in late sidereal Pisces, which is opposite Haumea in late sidereal Virgo. Eris and Haumea are in a several year opposition, which continues well into 2018. The Sun conjoins Pollux of the Gemini Twins.

Last Quarter Moon Sidereal Astrology Chart

Last Quarter Moon - Sidereal Fagan-Bradley

Eris, discovered in 2005 in Cetus, then designated UB313 and provisionally named Xena, the warrior princess, was responsible for the formation of the new "Dwarf Planet" classification and the reclassification of Pluto and Ceres to Dwarf Planet status, the family to which Eris, Pluto, Ceres, Haumea and Makemake now belong.

Eris is a feminine warrior archetype that has no fear or hesitation to intercede and expose a greater hidden truth. Eris abhors, will provoke and will challenge the assumption of the reality of a situation when based on false pretense. Eris provokes change by upsetting the status quo, by upsetting the apple cart. Eris discloses and exposes clandestine affairs, or simply what lies hidden behind innocent but naive assumptions about reality. She opens our eyes to what is covered by lies, often revealing something deceitful, shameful, ugly, or simply what is unacceptable behavior, often driven from greed or inflated pride. Although Eris can create a disrupting commotion, upsetting our existing, limiting and antiquated structures of consciousness, she opens us to see beyond the finite bounds of our current perception, beyond the bounds we place upon ourselves by arousing and challenging our egoic defenses. In doing so, we are left to redefine and reorganize our worldview to embrace a far vaster reality—a view more fitting to our rapidly expanding awareness. The discord and disruption Eris creates often results in a positive outcome in the longer term, as such how disrupting events can catalyze significant shifts in our lives that we would not otherwise initiate on our own, or by impelling us to take new paths that we would not otherwise embark upon that lead to more appropriate outcomes. More about Eris.

Haumea expresses from an exceptionally dynamic high-velocity state in perfect equilibrium, powerful and confident in knowing what is required to facilitate a new birth. Haumea will not be dominated, subjugated or owned. She is a naturalist, of the wild, and impels the formation and evolution of new life. Haumea impels a rebirth in consciousness. At a personal level, she impels the directed application of our personal attributes and resources to recreate or reinvent ourselves, to create new forms of self expression. More about Haumea.

Eris is making passage through the belly of ole' Cetus, now just past its conjunction with Baten Kaitos. The Eris-Moon lies just before the stars forming the upright fish, which straddle the Pisces-Aries cusp. It conjoins Alkurah of northern King Cepheus (father of Princess Andromeda) and Acamar of Eridanus in the southern heavens.

Cepheus star chart.

Alkurah, Xi Cepheus (sometimes found as Al Kurhah, Alkirdah or Al Kirduh), stimulates a desire for attainment, to seek greater success or advance in position. It motivates us to attain freedom from bondage or from emotional turmoil. Alkurah can manifest as a sign of some sort or a more accomplished person that gets our attention to realize there is something greater to aspire toward.

Conjoining from the southern heavens is Acamar of Eridanus, one of many stopping points along the long and winding river of life. Acamar is like a dam in a river made of debris that impedes the river's flow. Acamar indicates that emergence from the belly of Cetus, fear-based collective consciousness, requires a breakthrough that will lead us from the foul digestive juices of Cetus and into a greater freedom of being. It can impart a sense of emotional and physical resistance, but this resistance is also that which motivates us to clear away toxic accumulations that keep us from rising to a greater freedom of being.

Our Last Quarter Moon may arouse the need to acknowledge how we may be living in ways that are not true to whom we truly are, perhaps wearing facades to hide a deeper truth. It amy impel us to look at those things within self that we cover up due to shame, guilt or self-judgement, rather than acknowledge, embrace and heal. It impels us to redefine or remold our lives, our modes of living, or our expressions in life accordingly. It impels us to aspire to become more than we have been.

The Sun moves into sidereal Cancer on July 17.

Coalescence into Essence

The latter part of this phase results in coalescing all that was experienced in the cycle into its essence, into its seed form. It is a reflective time looking back over the past, of extracting and assembling what was learned from the cycle, claiming its true wealth and wisdom. This is a great time to explore what we learned in the context of the new moon theme. It is this seed essence which is of true value to our greater growth. This seed will sprout in the next Lunar Cycle of growth and unfoldment, and morph into the next Lunar Cycle's theme.

Our focus now turns toward the future. We now turn away from looking back over the past cycle completely and begin to look ahead, preparing for and anticipating the future cycle to come, to a new step to emerge in our Lunar Path of Fulfillment. The seed is planted. It is time to let it germinate. Completing any lose ends is appropriate, or to move into a new position for the next cycle to unfold. Here we make the field of all possibilities smooth and clear, ready for the new sprouting to occur.

Balsamic Moon
Focus to the Future

Balsamic Moon

The Balsamic Moon marks the time in the lunar cycle when we coalesce the experience of the lunar cycle into its seed essence, which will then sprout through the theme of the following lunar cycle. It is when we turn our attention from this lunar cycle in anticipation of the next to come. The hours before the Balsamic Moon provide our time of coalescence while those after mark the time when we turn 180° from looking back over the past cycle and look forward toward the next cycle to come.

The Balsamic Moon occurs on July 20 UT (July 19 MST) in sidereal Taurus. Eris also begins its retrograde on the Balsamic Moon. The Moon lies several degrees past Aldebaran and conjoins Tabit and the additional stars forming the Shield of Orion. Also conjoining from the south is Epsilon of Lepus, the nose of the rabbit.

The Shield of Orion brings inspiration to establish a protective environment, especially when starting new business ventures or enterprises when they are in their formative or planning stages, yet to become self-sustaining. This also extends to physical abodes and daily sustenance, of ensuring the care for self and for others. The stars of the Shield impel endurance and victory in this pursuit.

Our Balsamic Moon coalesces into essence the experience of Gemini lunar cycle, which becomes the seed to express anew into the following lunar cycle. It brings emphasis to enterprising action that supports home and family and to material sustenance, commerce and financial matters. It may inspire new projects or enterprises with emphasis on material resources that support, protect and ensure the success of any new ventures. It impels us to be resourceful, inventive and original, to apply our imagination and creativity to produce abundance.

The following New Moon occurs on July 23 conjoining Mars in early sidereal Cancer. More to come then.
