The U.S. Government Shutdown

An Astrological Exploration

Nick Anthony Fiorenza

The stars would not be in the heavens
if we were meant to walk in darkness.

This is an astrological exploration of the U.S. Government Shutdown occuring on October 1, 2013.

There are a few different times used for the US Decllartion astrological charts. To the right are two of the more popular charts. The first one is the Penfield/Wolfstar US Declartion Chart. The second is the Sibly Chart. The only thing different is the orentaion of the chart (ASC-DSC & MC-IC), due to the Sibly chart being a few hours later. I show both only for astrolgers' curiosity. I will be exploring planetary aspects more so than angles, which are the same in each chart (with minor exceptions), so the diferent times are not of much concern in this specific exploration. All charts are sidereal, equal area.

US Declaration Chart: Penfield/Wolfstar Clock Tower Time

The above inner chart is the "Penfield/Wolfstar US Declartion Chart." It is based on the Clock Tower time on the US $100 Bill, slightly rectified. The outer chart shows the transits at the time of the new fiscal year (Oct 1 12:00 AM)

US Declaration Chart: Sibly Time

The inner chart is the "Sibly US Declartion Chart." It's time is 5:10 PM LMT. The outer chart shows the transits at the time of the new fiscal year (Oct 1 12:00 AM)

Trasiting Planets

The principle and obvious planets and asteroids of concern are the Moon, Mars, Juno and Pallas.

I am looking at Juno and Pallas specifically because they have to do with relationships, relationship issues and emotional maturity in relationships; and the issue here is of course between the two-sided governmnet / parties in the US (Republican-Democrat / Congress-Senate).

Transiting Juno conjoins the US Pluto-South Node (midpoint); and transiting Pallas conjoins the US North Node.

Juno and Pallas are also of principle concern because of their key placements in the US chart: the Moon-Pallas (very tight) conjunction and the Juno-Saturn conjunction.

The transiting Moon of is course also about timing and where we are in the current lunar cycle.

Mars is of concern for two main reasons. The first is that Mars and Comet ISON are in the middle of thier month long conjunction under the Head of the Lion. The second is that the Moon conjoins Mars and ISON. See The Mars-ISON Conjunction for details about it. This is an addendum to my orginal Mars-ISON article.

Trasiting Moon-Mars-ISON is square to transting Venus, which is opposed US Vesta, thus forming a T-square. It is approaching trine to transting Eris (US Chiron). It is also approaching sextile to the US Mars and sextile to the US Juno, thus being the mid-point trigger to the US Mars and US Juno trine.

Unique to the Plenfield chart is that the Moon-Mars-ISON conjunction is on the US mid-heaven (MC); Saturn on the ASC.

Longer-term Transits

There are of course longer-term transits at play. Briefly these include: Eris transiting the US Chiron; Pluto aproaching its transit to the US Eris. The Eris-Chiron transit is also intersting because the "apparent issue" underlying the US Government Shutdown is about "ObamaCare."

Saturn (which is also trine transiting Chiron, and aspecting Pallas and the Uranus-Pluto Square) is square the US Lunar Nodes; and the transiting Lunar Nodes just squared the US Lunar Nodes. Transiting Saturn also conjoins the transiting North Lunar Node durring the time surrounding the shutdown. A Saturn-Lunar Node conjunction is crutial and potent in general, especially regarding wars, as can be easily researched. Adding significance to this is the three Mercury-Saturn conjuctions occuring durring the "very significant" October-November 2013 Mercury retrograde and the Earth-Mercury synod occuring on the North Lunar Node, which feeds into fouth Uranus-Pluto Square (ocurring on November 1, 2013), and the November 3, 2013 Solar Eclipse lunar cycle in which the primary Uranus-Pluto Synodic Square occurs, creating a major turning for humanity. See Revolution & Revelation: The Uranus-Pluto Square 2012-2015. I present an in-depth exploration of the Mercury-Saturn significance in the October 5, 2013 Lunar Planner (for Lunar Planner Subscribers).

We also have the Sun moving into square with Pluto and in opposition to Uranus, creating the potent Sun-Pluto-Uranus T-Square, with Uranus and Pluto in a tight orb in the cresecendo of their fourth square.

Astrological Considerations

Pallas and Juno transiting the US Lunar Nodes

The Lunar Nodes

The Lunar Nodes can be thought of as a magnetic pointer, from the South Lunar Node to the North Lunar Node. Star alignments and aspects to the Lunar Nodes can reveal past patterns and how to evolve those patterns. The South Node stars reveals those patterns. They can feel comfy-cozy, and are easy to fall into. Staying in the patterns of the South Node yield little or no growth. The North Node stars reveal the new direction to move, the pattern breaker. They may not always be so comfortable because the old comfy patterns, well en-grained, need to be changed or expressed in a new way. However, movement in this pursuit provides the essential growth required. In essence, we must extract the growth gained from the old patterns and apply it in a new way, revealed by the North Node. Thus, the Lunar Nodes reveal our past-future growth directive.

It is important to note that this does not mean we abandon or reject the South Node energetic, but that we embrace it and express the South Node theme through the North Node theme—to express the South Node in an entirely new way. In doing so we establish a balance between the South and North Node themes. With out establishing this balance, it is common to oscillate between the South Node theme and the North Node theme.

Juno conjoins the US Pluto-South Lunar Node mid-point.

The US Pluto lies under the auspices of Altair of Aquila the Eagle, which enters the ecliptic in early sidereal Capricorn, an energetic of covert pursuits, self-focus, military strategies and bases, etc. The South Node (old patterns) conjoins the tip of Missile of Zeus, Sagitta, which lies north over early Capricorn. South are the stars of Indus. (I'm am going to forego much of my normal star material in this article to keep this of a reasonable length.) The point I would like to make here is more about relationships, the level of maturity at play (or lack there of), and the greater potential and opportunity this country has to mature.

Juno and Jupiter by Gavin Hamilton

Juno and Jupiter by Gavin Hamilton. Collection of the Earl of Leicester, Holkham Hall, Norfolk

Juno is the asteroid of covenant relationships, soul colleagues, and intimate lovers. Juno is not only of personal relations, but also those of a business nature to those of political leaders and nations of the world. In the astrological chart, Juno indicates the nature of the issues and opportunities in significant relations of all sorts. Mature Juno is diplomatic, tactful, cooperative, and mutually trusting. Mature Juno expresses with a sense of equality within self that provides the ability to draw true partners and those of equality into one’s life. There is an acceptance of another’s truth or opinion without need to challenge or debate. There is an ability to honor and support others in their own choices and decisions. Mature Juno expresses in mutual support and unconditional compassion to allow each other to grow and change through whatever issues surface.

At a personal level, Juno’s placement in the astrological chart is one of several points that determine the types of significant relations drawn into our lives and the nature of issues we may face in those relations. Juno's placement specifically reveals the nature of the compatibility we seek, that is, what is important to us regarding our partners.

(Considering the Juno-Saturn placement in the US chart, it is not suprising the predominace of a long history of clandestine relations in business and politics in the United States.)

Potential Juno issues (an immature Juno expression) can manifest as superiority / inferiority complexes, power struggles, control issues, jealousy and possessiveness, betrayal, contention and standoffs, one-up-man-ship, invalidating others, lack of self confidence, dictating behavior, and a variety of other inequality issues. More about Juno.

Pallas Athene

Pallas Athene

Pallas Athene

Mature Pallas expresses as the artful use of creative intelligence for solution beyond duality’s paradox. Mature Pallas expresses from the balance of the masculine and feminine principles, and from beyond the judgments of one side verses the other. Pallas invites the integration of our past experience in duality—from having been on both sides of the fence at one time or another—and to claim that experience as wisdom. It invites us to use that wisdom as a foundation to express nonjudgmental courageous solution beyond life’s paradoxes created by opposing forces.

Pallas is applier and defender of wisdom and truth; the expression of intellect in craft and inventiveness. Mature Pallas accepts personal responsibility for having co-created our experience; i.e. the resolution of victim consciousness. Pallas has the strategic capacity to link, unify and bring together; and has wonderful perceptual skills for planning and public relations. Pallas often has a prominent placement in the charts or artists. Pallas significantly effects emotional and physical equilibrium.

Pallas issues (an immature Pallas expression) can express as spiteful withdrawal, which ultimately can manifest as self-sabotage due to judgments about use of power or awry creative / sexual energy. It can also express as righteousness, judgment and invalidation of opposite or alternative views, lashing out with a vengeance. Pallas issues can express as an imbalance in the masculine and feminine aspects of self; sexuality issues, dyslexia and perceptual problems. Pallas governs the Liver / Spleen balance (violet / red), which is reflexed to the equilibrium and dizziness centre of the brain. More about Pallas.

From Wikipedia on the 1995 Government Shutdown

"The United States federal government shutdown of 1995 and 1996 was the result of conflicts between Democratic President Bill Clinton and the Republican Congress over funding for Medicare, education, the environment, and public health in the 1996 federal budget. The government shut down after Clinton vetoed the spending bill the Republican Party-controlled Congress sent him. The federal government of the United States put non-essential government workers on furlough and suspended non-essential services from November 14 through November 19, 1995 and from December 16, 1995 to January 6, 1996, for a total of 28 days. The major players were President Clinton and Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Newt Gingrich." Continued on Wikipedia

The November 14, 1995 Transits included: A Chiron-Pallas-Vesta conjunction in mid-sidereal Virgo square the US Jupiter and aspecting the US Lunar Nodes. Transiting Mars-Jupiter conjuncion sextile US Saturn. Transiting Mars-Jupiter was also square transiting Saturn, which was quincunx to US Saturn. Transting Lunar Nodes were aproaching conjunction to the US Juno. This also occured during the Uranus-Neptune conjunction.

About Synodic Cycles

Synodic Cycles are created when two (or more) planets align in their orbits around the Sun. The synodic cycle theme, defined by the planets involved and the star alignments at the time, will unfold until the two planets align again, marking the completion of the synodic cycle and the beginning of the next one.

There are many synodic cycles with unique astrological themes occurring simultaneously, creating a harmonic symphony of creative unfoldment in consciousness. Synodic cycles can be thought of as longer-term underlying currents, much like the backdrop chorus of a symphony, providing the underlying astrological context guiding our evolution.
